When a young woman is found brutally murdered in her home, Savannah Homicide Detective Mitch Cannon and his team have no clues or witnesses. Days later, the owners of a pawnshop are killed too. The method of execution is the same, yet the victims themselves couldn’t be more different.
The killer ups the ante and murders three more people in record time, but the killing method has changed. Now the homicide department wonders if they’re dealing with one murderer or two.
But when they finally track down the killer and storm his motel room, they find something none of them expected. There's someone even more brutal and dangerous than the murderer himself, and it’s clear that soon he’ll be knocking on Mitch Cannon's door.

C.M. Sutter was born in San Jose, California and split time between the sunny California coast and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a senior in high school, she chose Wisconsin as her permanent address. After many years in the Badger State, she decided on a warmer year-round climate to call home and moved south. Years of progression took her from working in large companies, to twelve years as a massage therapist, and finally, owning a corporation. She has been self-employed for over twenty years. Ms. Sutter has been writing and self-publishing since 2014 with eleven titles published in a different genre. Because of her deep interest in crime and thriller novels, she took up writing in the police procedural/crime thriller genre in 2016.
GR currently lists only 2 books in the Mitch Cannon series but there are actually 5. This is #4. Spoilers ahead.
Actually spoilers don't matter too much in the CM Sutter books I've read because you can also see the action from the criminal's POV, which I don't like, since not doing that makes the plot/story more suspenseful.
So Mitch Cannon is a detective in Savannah's homicide department. Various unconnected people are killed various ways and Cannon and his partner Rue are tasked to find him. Since we see the killer's POV, we already know who he is. But as you read on, it's not all that it seems.
I like this series because the writing is easy to read and follow. Sometimes too easy. I find the writing and the thinking sometimes too simplistic. Sometimes so simplistic it doesn't make sense but because I like the series, I go along with it.
Many times, there is also unnecessary dialog and actions that could be eliminated altogether. Like Mitch and Rue getting a coffee and the author will write the whole thing out, including them thanking each other. The characters are also a bit flat and cliched. All these are examples of what I call Sunday afternoon authors, authors who write on their days off and this isn't their main job. Most of the time I don't like these books but the Sutter's writing is so easy to read that I follow along without any effort, as in following in inertia.
I've actually come to like Mitch Cannon and Sutter's effort to make him more 3D. Normally, I don't have a lot of patience with sideplots as they take away from the main story but Cannon's family life with his sisters, nieces and mom is so wholesome that I willingly follow along, together with their wholesome home cooked meals of spaghetti with meatballs, meatloaf or grilled salmon.
OK, on to the next book. I also look forward to reading Sutter's other series to see what her other heroes are like.
Beg For Your Life is the fourth thrilling story written by C. M. Sutton in her Mitch Cannon Savannah Heat Thriller series. This story has many of the fantastic characters as in the previous books along with a couple of new sinister ones. Detective Cannon and his partner Rue Devon are back on the trail of a serial killer. Nothing within these cases adds up and none of the victims are associated to each other. No clues as to what is happening but there is something they are all missing or should I say someone. This mystery is full of suspense and the drama builds within each chapter. With Cannon's life at steak things start falling into place and the outcome is shocking. This is another fantastic story from this author and I look forward to the next story in the series.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful mystery that I can highly recommend to others.
This had the potential to be a great book, unfortunately the author didn't do a very good job writing it. I've always been a C.M Sutter fan, especially her earlier work. However, her writing style has taken a wrong turn somewhere along the way. Hopefully she will find her way back!
When a woman is massacred in her home, Savannah PD Detective Mitch Cannon tries to piece together the crime. As more bodies turn up, it's evident a serial killer is on the loose. Then, a strange man shows up at Mitch's house. Can he find the killer in time? Or is Mitch and his family in imminent danger?
CM Sutter is one terrific author. I just loved this book all of her series are worth ten stars this one definitely should be ten stars I highly recommend this book to everyone Dorothy Schaefer
Every C.M. Sutter book I’ve read (and I believe I’ve read almost all of them!) have been awesome! Every single one has grabbed me from the first page and I can’t stop reading until the end! I love this author! Keep writing, C.M. And I’ll keep buying and reading!
I only gave this book a rating of 4 because I felt it contained too much time to endless, time-consuming police procedures. However, it's a very good mystery with a completely surprising ending and worth the read!
