Author's The Postmaster of Treblinka is a novella, and as such, it is of course much shorter than my novels. That was one of the reasons I have chosen this genre as the vehicle to introduce new readers to my work. However, I hope it will also entertain existing readers and give them something new and exciting to explore and enjoy. Historical Mysteries Historical Fiction
Gabriel Farago is the USA TODAY Bestselling and Multi-Award-Winning Australian Author of the Jack Rogan Mysteries Series for the thinking reader and culturally curious.
As a lawyer with a passion for history and archaeology, Gabriel had to wait for many years before being able to pursue another passion—writing—in earnest. However, his love of books and storytelling started long before that.
Born in Budapest, Gabriel grew up in post-War Europe, and after fleeing Hungary with his parents during the Revolution in 56, he went to school in Austria before arriving in Australia as a teenager. This allowed him to become multi-lingual and feel ‘at home’ in different countries and diverse cultures. Shaped by a long legal career and experiences spanning several decades and continents, his is a mature voice that speaks in many tongues.
Gabriel holds degrees in literature and law, speaks several languages and takes research and authenticity very seriously. Inquisitive by nature, he studied Egyptology and learned to read the hieroglyphs. He travels extensively and visits all of the locations mentioned in his books.
‘I try to weave fact and fiction into a seamless storyline,’ he explains. ‘By blurring the boundaries between the two, the reader is never quite sure where one ends, and the other begins. This is of course quite deliberate as it creates the illusion of authenticity and reality in a work that is pure fiction. A successful work of fiction is a balancing act: reality must rub shoulders with imagination in a way that is both entertaining and plausible.’
Gabriel lives in the Blue Mountains in Australia just outside Sydney, surrounded by a World Heritage National Park.
If you like historical thrillers, excitement, mystery and suspense, if you enjoy exotic settings, colourful characters and fast-paced action, if you like to learn about interesting, well-researched subjects that tease your intellect and imagination, then once your step inside, Gabriel will show you his world; the world of the storyteller.
Shaped by a long legal career and experiences spanning several decades and continents, his is a mature voice that speaks in many tongues.
His first book – The Empress Holds the Key – will take you on an exciting quest for a holy relic mysteriously erased from the pages of history. You will be transported far back in time to the reign of Akhenaten, the heretic pharaoh of ancient Egypt, and King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. You will discover a dark secret guarded by the Knights Templar and feared by the Vatican, a mystery that has haunted the Catholic Church for centuries, and can challenge the very foundations of Christianity.
His second book – The Disappearance of Anna Popov – will thrill you in a different way. You will enter the dangerous world of an outlaw bikie gang. You will travel to the remote dreamtime wilderness of outback Australia where the ruler is an evil master, outcasts are heroes, and cruelty and violence are admired and rewarded. You will meet Cassandra, an enigmatic psychic. Using her occult powers to avenge an old, deep wrong, she sets the scene for an epic showdown where the stakes are high and the loser faces death and oblivion.
His third book –The Hidden Genes of Professor K – a medical thriller, was released in July 2016. Cutting-edge medical research meets the ruthless, dangerous world of pharmaceutical empire billionaires, where unbridled ambition and greed threaten to destroy the dreams of a visionary scientist with the power to change the future of medicine, and the journey of man.
A writer like Gabriel, sees the world through a different lens. Using creativity and imagination, He endeavours to weave fact and fiction into seamless stories that have only one aim: to entertain you.
Book Review - The Postmaster of Treblinka written by Gabriel Farago
May 2022 and the latest Gabriel Farago novella is released! Excellent!
…The Jack Rogan Mysteries Series has just reached another milestone with seven books and two novellas – a body of work that now encompasses more than 3500 paperback pages…
The Postmaster of Treblinka is a novella, and as such, it is of course much shorter than my novels, but without losing focus or scope.
Within the Nazi death camp Treblinka, Herzl and Ilana created a secret illegal postal service for the doomed Jewish prisoners to communicate with the outside world: They all knew they were dancing with death. If discovered, well, you can imagine …’ ‘How macabre.’ ‘Hope often is.’ ‘You’re right.’… All part of a secret, underground postal service, right under the noses of the SS. The Ballroom of Hope. Brazen? Yes. Desperate? Certainly. But surprisingly effective.’ ‘And this diary was like a dance card with death?’… Hope is priceless, and communicating with those we love, precious.’
Jack Rogan’s problem solving techniques are amazing, surprising and usually effective: Jack had spent most of the night going over his notes in an effort to make sense of the Herzl story so far. He had also prepared a timeline, which was always helpful to put people and events into proper perspective.
Jack’s awareness of the advantages of first-person history writing: …working on a biography while one is still alive makes more sense than having one created later, when one has left the world of the living. He believes that everything looks different when examined in the rear-view mirror.’
Gabriel Farago has the ability to capture the essence of a scene with brilliant clarity: As Jack entered the room, the bells of St Peter’s Basilica were ringing. It was eight am. The tall windows of the large room were open, inviting the rays of the morning sun inside, like fingers of hope reaching out to the dying patient. The pope’s bed had been turned around to face the windows so that he could see the cupola of St Peter’s.
Farago also displays scepticism in relation to illustrious people and how they hope to be remembered: it will be a fitting addition that will characterise and define his biography: honesty, courage and authenticity. Quite rare in biographies of illustrious people who only like to be remembered for the glamorous bits.’
Towards the end Gabriel writes about Yad Vashem, the world-famous Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem: Many say that the Hall of Names is the heart of this memorial because it specifically commemorates the six million murdered Jews of the Holocaust.
Having read much of Gabriel Farago’s writing, I enjoyed this one just as much. He is a deep thinker and meticulous researcher, who takes joy in creating a spider’s web of interrelated characters and events that span many lifetimes. Highly recommended!
Once again Gabriel Farago has lent his considerable talent as a consummate storyteller to the task of blending fact, fiction, and incredible imagination into a riveting and emotionally charged adventure. In this story the incorrigible rascal, Jack Rogan, follows his “breadcrumbs of destiny” on a journey taking him from the Holocaust to the Yad Vashem (World Holocaust Remembrance Center) in Jerusalem to deliver one final missive entrusted to an incredibly brave man known as the Postmaster of Treblinka. While this story may only be of novella length, rest assured that there is absolutely no shortage of compelling drama, heart-wrenching tragedy, moments of incredible tenderness nor is there any lack of breathtaking descriptions of amazing locations or mouth-watering food. If you have read any of the books in this series you will recognize these attributes as the requisite components of a Jack Rogan mystery that make all the stories so engaging and so memorable. I marvel at the author’s ability to weave such a complex tapestry of history and fiction yet present it in such a clear and comprehensible narrative for all to enjoy. This is definitely, in my opinion, another 5 star achievement that I would highly recommend.
I was provided with a copy of this book, for which I thank the author, but I am sharing my honest and unbiased review on a completely voluntary basis.
When a rabbi in Prague throws celebrated author and Australian journalist Jack Rogan a challenge, he is irresistibly drawn into a baffling mystery and begins to investigate. Together with Tristan, a remarkable young man with psychic powers, Rogan discovers hidden clues that point to a dark family secret. Can Jack solve the mystery and deliver the letter before the voices crying out of the mass graves are silenced forever, or will it be lost, depriving humanity of a warning it cannot afford to ignore? The chapters are titled by place and date and that makes it a bit easier to follow the story. I had some troubles in the beginning mainly because of the difficult words as english is not my native language. But further on the story itself grabbed me. As this is a part of the Jack Rogan serie it would have been better to read the serie first. Although throughout the book there are references to the other books it is still a bit difficult to complete the characters in your head. They remain somewhat superficial but that will mainly be because this is a series. Nevertheless The postmaster of Treblinka is a beautiful story and I am convinced that those who have read the series will appreciate the book more. I received an advance review copy for free, and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

This novella was sent to me by the author as part of his ARC team and while this could definitely be read as a stand-alone book (read without reading previous novellas) but it definitely helps (as there is a tonne of references to past adventures).
The story starts in Prague with a Rabbi and the discovery of a long-lost letter. He throws a challenge out to Jack Rogan, a celebrated author, and Australian journalist. Jack joins forces with Tristan, a remarkable young man with psychic powers. A letter that was written from the Nazi concentration camps (voices of thousands that need to be heard)
While this historical novella is a great read, I found the overuse of a certain phrase ("breadcrumbs of destiny") throughout his writings to be almost cliche and a bit of a literary crutch. I find that because of this that sometimes I found I was disengaged from the story.
That being said even with its shortcomings, I would give this story a solid four stars out of a possible five.
As with all books that I review, this is just my five cents worth .
How do I begin? This novella is part of a wonderful series. Each book is stand alone but you would be cheating yourself if you missed just one. This story moved me more than I can put into words. The story reminded me of my family tree and what they went through in the past. I do not want to give anything away about this story but it truly touched me. This author is one of my favorites. He blends fact and fiction so flawlessly. Once you start reading you cannot stop, each book is that good. This novella, like the rest of this series, are all interconnected or as the character Jack Rogan says breadcrumbs of destiny to be followed. This story was beautiful. As you read you feel like you are right there with Jack. I was able to picture everything in my minds eye and almost feel what the characters felt. This author is a master. I highly recommend this novella and every book by this author. I am part of the advance team and this is my honest opinion.
This book is a novella that blends history with a touch of romance combined with adventure and action. All the familiar characters are there, but this episode primarily features Jack and Tristan.
They are on the search for the “Postmaster of Treblinka.” While following their search, the reader is treated to an exciting and fascinating story that blends fact with fiction so seamlessly it is impossible to tell which is which.
Mr. Farago has an amazing facility to create pictures with words. His characters are so very true to life that the reader feels as though they are in the same room with them. He is surely a very great talent. Pure genius!!
I have read all of Mr. Fargo’s books and will continue to do so.
I want to thank Gabriel Farago for forwarding to me a copy of this most remarkable book for me to read, enjoy and review. The opinions expressed here are solely my own.
I'm a fan of Gabriel Farago's work, and usually his meticulous research is very impressive. But the research behind The Postmaster of Treblinka was rather disappointing. It is impossible for a forger to paint an oil painting like an old master one day, and sell it as the real thing the next morning. Oil paint dries extremely slowly, and even if the surface feels dry, the paint underneath might still be wet. The artist also needs a solvent to thin the paint, and most artists keep a couple of oil-based mediums on hand. Not only will the painting feel wet, you will be able to smell the fresh paint and solvent. Furthermore, the author refers to Gustav Klimt as “Klimpt”. Credibility is everything, it's hard to build but easy to destroy. And I’m afraid these anomalies killed the credibility of this novella for me. I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review.
This is a testament to the unchallenged quality of Gabriel Farago's writing it is not just intriguing ,exciting ,entertaining, but it is a breathtaking tale with the passion of one man's need in finding truths of the past, bringing them into the light while doing so with great reserve for all those affected by his quest and those he must draw those delicate and personal secrets from along the way to bringing to light what others wish to stay in the dark past. The hero Jack Rogan struggles not just with those demanding to stop him in his quests but his own inner self in honorable respect of those who lived through those past events and those lives that may be changed forever because of the exposure of truths delivered by him. A truly masterful creation into the past bringing to life an alternate truth. Acquire " The Postmaster of Treblinka " today for hours of intriguing entertainment. Kat
I received this book a while ago as a freebie for doing a video review for Gabriel Farago's new website
In writing this book Gabriel Farago has produced yet another good book. When I read it, I thought the timing of it was very apposite too as it felt as though I was meeting old friends again after the Covid lockdown! The interweaving of this new novella with events in the previous books worked very well and was a good reminder of books I had previously read. Without a doubt, I felt that the novella certainly can be read as a standalone story as the author intended as everything the reader needs to know is encapsulated within it. There could also be enough breadcrumbs in it for a new reader to be intrigued enough to read the other books to which it refers. If the reader does follow these breadcrumbs I am fairly sure that they will not be disappointed in what they read as a result.
For those of you who haven’t yet read any of “The Jack Rogan Mysteries Series” by Gabriel Farago, you are in for great Adventures when you do!
The Postmaster of Treblinka is a different kind of novella. Typically, a novella is a quick and easy stand alone read, and this novella is exactly that, but more in the sense of it being a continuation of the author’s The Forgotten Painting (a fabulous book).
This multi-lingual author is a brilliant researcher, and his passion for history, culture and geographies is displayed on every page of every book in this series. His melding of facts with his wonderful imagination make for non-stop page turning … such Masterful Storytelling!
Read “The Postmaster of Treblinka” and you just might find a favorite new character!
I don’t know how this author weaves such an amazing story. The breadcrumbs of destiny links random people together. I love history! That makes this book extra special! Who knew a young girl who’s father gives away the baby would some how become the mother of a Pope and the other child would be the one to tell the world what really happened in the concentration camps! This book had so many interconnected parts that all came together to make any amazing story. I absolutely loved this book and this author. When i think it can’t get any better it does. I have zero negative comments about this book or author. All of his books r masterpieces! 75 yrs after a letter is written it finally arrives exactly where it’s suppose to! Amazing!
A great historical novella. Mr. Farago’s books always take me a longer time to read than other authors but that is because I need to digest and understand the historical implications and the way the characters react to the circumstances. It all adds to the enjoyment for me as I read. The novellas are also a great connection to others in the Jack Rogan series, filling in extra details and expanding on storylines. I am always amazed at the amount of research, time and effort that Mr. Farago puts into his writing. The inspiration for each of his books is not always from a pleasant event in history but the story woven around it makes it into a fascinating mystery.
I received an ARC from this extraordinary author and this is my honest review. Long may he continue to write.
This novella brings many different and tantalizing exposes pieces together. Our story begins in Prague with a Rabi and a long-lost letter. He throws a challenge out to Jack Rogan a celebrated author and Australian journalist. Jack joins forces with Tristan, a remarkable young man with psychic powers. A letter that was written from the Nazi concentration camps. A letter that needs to be told, but will Jack and Tristan be able to deliver this letter to the powers that be - so that the hidden austerities be told? While this is a short novella, I found myself totally captured by the writing of the author. I received this novel from BookFunnel. This is my true and honest review,
In The Postmaster of Treblinka, Gabriel Farago has produced a rare gem in the Jack Rogan series. Harkening back to David Herzl in The Forgotten Painting, this novella completes the story of the Postmaster of Treblinka. Also appearing are other much-beloved characters in Venice and Rome as the story moves from the Grand Canal to the very heart of the Vatican. In true Farago style, threads from all the series books are woven together as the story effortlessly moves through time and place as Jack solves yet another mystery. I highly recommend this book, either as a standalone or part of this wonderful and impressive series.
The great thing about Gabriel Farago's novellas is he packs so much into a relatively short book. Which is great, because once you start reading The Postmaster of Treblinka, you won't want to put it down. As with all Farago's books, there are several interwoven storylines that span countries and many decades. Our favourite characters are at the core of the story, and some familiar ones also reappear. A heartbreaking story of love, loss and secrets, and the long-lost letter that reveals the horrors of the Treblinka death camp.
The Postmaster Of Treblina, written by one of my favorite authors, Gabriel Farago, is a novella that tells a great story and mentions some of his other books and characters. A rabbi in Prague tells Jack Rogan a story that starts him and Tristan on another adventure. It takes them to Treblinka, a Nazi prison camp and around Europe. Their adventures finally take them to the Vatican and ... well I can't tell you any more. Why spoil the book for you? Once you start this book you will want to read the author's other book. They are very interesting along with being very factual.
Gabriel Farago’s latest installment in the Jack Rogan series is another definite homerun! As with his previous books this one is impeccably researched. A wonderfully crafted story with well developed and compelling characters, it has twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat right to the last page. It was so captivating and exciting that I simply couldn't put it down!
Thank you to the author who provided me with a copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The writing is always superb and the story was sad but beautiful. Telling the story of the horrible accounts of the Jews during WWII was sad but yet a truth that should be told and you do it so well and you keep my mind sharp when you refer to characters and events from your other books. You also keep me sharp since I investigate your facts. Thank you for sharing your God given gift.
Shorter than my usual reads, but much interesting detail and several fascinating storylines are woven into this brief novella. If you follow the Jack Rogan series, you must read this latest addition. And if you have not yet read the Rogan novels, I suggest you begin with The Forgotten Painting and read all of them, in order! Gabriel Farago is a talented storyteller; wish I could visit all the exotic locations he describes in his books. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Gabriel Farago has an unparalleled talent. His thrillers link history, heart, science and unforgettable characters. If you are unfamiliar with his work this latest novella is a great place to start. You will get a true taste of his style with in a story that will warm your heart as it breaks and stay with you forever.
If you're already a fan of the series, this novella won't disappoint. If this is your first encounter with Mr Farago's books, it will encourage you to find the sources of all the "breadcrumbs" that have lead the characters to this point in the story. Beautifully narrated, once more Mr. Farago weaves fact and fiction to create a page turner.
Jack Rogan gets pulled into the most interesting of mysteries. He brings along his friend and sometimes side kick Tristan they will follow the breadcrumbs of history to solve the mystery. Nazi Germany is the starting point but this story will take you all over and even back to Rome and the pope. These books bring history to life in the most enjoyable way.
Oh wow! Superb writing! Excellent! Brilliant clarity of a horrific Nazi prison camp, Treblinka. One reverting, emotional, heart wrenching tale. Masterful! Engaging! A gripping page turner, with unforgettable, compelling characters! A truly sad story that has you hooked from the beginning! Wow! Read!
This book is very moving and is an excellent sequel to the rest of Jack Roan Mysteries. I throughly enough Jack, Tristin and the other characters the author has brought to life with his stories, Jack tells it all! I am so glad I found Gabriel Farago books, thy arewonderful
This was an interesting & gripping story of how one man, with the help of many others, gave hope to the prisoners at the Triblinka concentration camp. The lengths to which strangers helped get letters delivered to the victims' families was as heartwarming as it was difficult to believe Nazis could be so evil.
We can see how Jack, following his breadcrumbs, is going to find answers to story, which started in 1923 and part of it take place during WWII in Treblinka. Story is very captivating and it was hard for me to take a break during reading it, to go to sleap.
An excellent historical mystery with a well written storyline and outstanding realistic characters. This page-turning novella contains very believable history and science in solving this mystery. Highly recommended novella by an outstanding author.
Great story that is so realistic it is hard to believe that it is a work of fiction. Gabriel Farago weaves a story that has the ability to hold the reader's attention whether they are a long time reader of his works or a newcomer.
I have only read The Postman of Treblinka novella. I am now hooked! I just got #1-7 and can't wait to get started. This book held my interest from the beginning and I read it straight through.
