Troy Stark #3

Rogue Target

Rate this book
Although elite Navy SEAL Troy Stark was forced into retirement for his dubious respect for authority, his work in stopping a major terrorist threat to New York did not go unnoticed. Now part of a new, secret international organization, Troy must hunt down all threats to the U.S. and pre-empt them overseas—bending the rules if he has to.

In ROGUE TARGET (book #3), a new marvel of engineering is set to open with fanfare, heralding a new era of technology and attracting heads of state for the grand opening. But terrorists have their eyes on it, too—along with the high-value targets attending—and in this high-octane action thriller, Troy Stark may be the only person left standing between the terrorists and an event of mass destruction.

Troy Stark is back and forced to work another side gig for the government when technology is turned against us.

The train scenes were the best and most exciting parts for me. But overall, Pacing is good.

Mari, as always, adds a level of depth that Troy can't quite achieve on his own. I missed his mom and brothers in this one, though.

In the world of espionage thrillers, a new hero has emerged from the shadows: Troy Stark, the protagonist of Jack Mars' audiobook, "Rogue Target." Narrated by the talented Phillip Sacramento, this 3rd installment in the Troy Stark Thriller series is a testament to Mars' prowess in weaving a narrative that is as explosive as it is intricate.

**Narration: The Voice That Carries the Story

Phillip Sacramento's narration is nothing short of a masterpiece. With a voice that exudes confidence and a tone that carries the urgency of the plot, Sacramento brings Troy Stark to life. His ability to switch between accents and characters seamlessly is a testament to his skill and experience. The narration is not just a reading; it's a performance that enhances the tension and drama of the story.

**Plot: A High-Stakes Game

"Rogue Target" plunges listeners into a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, where the stakes are nothing less than national security. Troy Stark, an elite Navy SEAL forced into retirement, finds himself in the midst of an international conspiracy. A marvel of engineering is set to open, attracting heads of state and marking a new era of technology. However, terrorists have set their sights on this event, aiming to turn a moment of triumph into one of tragedy.

**Character Development: The Man Behind the Mission

Jack Mars excels in character development, and Troy Stark is a prime example. He's a man with a dubious respect for authority, which makes him unpredictable and fascinating. His personal and professional challenges add layers to his character, making him relatable and human. The supporting cast is equally well-crafted, with each character playing a pivotal role in the unfolding drama.

**Writing Style: Precision and Pace

Mars' writing is sharp and precise. He knows how to pace a story, keeping listeners on the edge of their seats. The action scenes are vividly described, making it easy for listeners to visualize the chaos and carnage. The quieter moments are just as compelling, offering a glimpse into the psyche of a man who operates in the shadows.

**Themes: Technology and Terrorism

At its core, "Rogue Target" is a reflection on the modern world's reliance on technology and the vulnerabilities that come with it. The novel explores the idea that technological advancements, while beneficial, can also be exploited for nefarious purposes. It's a timely reminder of the delicate balance between progress and security.

**Conclusion: A Must-Listen Audiobook

"Rogue Target" is a thrilling ride from start to finish. Jack Mars has crafted a story that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. Phillip Sacramento's narration elevates the experience, making this audiobook a must-listen for fans of the genre. As the series continues, one can only hope that Troy Stark will return to tackle more threats with the same tenacity and courage he displayed in "Rogue Target."

Rogue Target was a great read as it pulled me in with the action, suspense and the fast pace in the atmosphere in which Troy Stark operates. He is divided between two worlds-- His life in the U.S. working black ops for the NYPD and working internationally in various countries in Europe with Interpol. His family doesn't know what he actually does over there and think he is working for an overseas charity (which is his cover story working black ops for the NYPD to keep threats from overseas coming to the U.S. especially New York City).

Thus far, he has been responsible for shutting down a variety of terrorist plots. In this story, this operation is so high risk that it could easily cost his life and those he care about. As you read this story, you'll think about some action scenes from the Mission Impossible movies because that's was my thought as the author puts the reader there on scene in the midst of all of the action. This particular story centers around a hijacking of commuter trains and Stark and his team must find out who is behind the plot, where is the next target, when it will occur and how can they stop them?

What I love about this the most is that Stark has a dangerous enemy in the shadows in each of the books at the end, spying on him, waiting to strike and get revenge after Stark foiled his last terrorist attack, all while handling new threats. That the kind of suspense I like because I am often wondering when will that subplot come to a head and Stark comes face-to-face with this threat?

Overall, this was a fast read and has the right elements that lovers of crime and suspense come to expect. Each book builds upon the previous book and the character development is nicely done. This book is highly recommended.

Book 3 of the Troy Stark series. This thriller was a little different as Troy was not in the action until the end. Plenty of action, gunfire, conspiracy, and death. If you’re a James Bond fan you’ll enjoy this series. Overall, I enjoyed the read. The author is not sexiest on who he kills off. I loved the Eastern European ties and it was fun for me, who has spent time in Bulgaria, to have it appear in the novel, even briefly. Overall a strong thriller that is an action movie end-to-end.

After a short trip home to NYC, Troy Stark is back in action hunting terrorists who cyber attack trains.
Unknown to him an old foe, is pulling the strings and he needs all his power to stop an attack directed at a high speed train travelling from Hungary through the Alps to Switzerland. Action from start to finish. Waiting for the next one!

Wildly exciting.

Rogue Target is one of those books that doesn't let the reader relax for a moment. Great story telling keeps you guessing how the challenges will be met and the bad guys defeated. And you may think twice before boarding your next train....
