The Sinclair Jewels #3

The Sutherland Devil

Rate this book
Everyone in the Highlands knows three things about the Sutherland laird:
1) He’s got more bastards than he can count.
2) He’s already buried three wives.
3) He’s the very Devil himself.

Which is why, when Saffy—one of the Sinclair Jewels—finds evidence that her family’s missing brooch is in the Sutherland Devil’s possession, she’s certain she’s taking her life into her own hands to reclaim it. She’s the scholar in the family, not the warrior…but how hard could it be to don a pair of braies, lop off her hair, and approach the Sutherlands as a lad?

She hadn’t planned on being accused of spying and thrown into the dungeons to starve!

Merrick Sutherland is harried from all sides: his alliances are falling apart, his children are adorable monsters, and his illegitimate brother has declared war in an attempt to claim his title. The last thing he needs is a distraction in the form of a lippy little cross-dresser, but that’s what he gets when he drags his new prisoner up from the dungeons. Is she a spy? The best way to learn her secrets is to keep her close, so Merrick makes “Saf” his squire, without revealing what he’s already learned.

Thrust into a sensual game of wits with her new master, Saffy is surprised to learn that what everyone knows about him isn’t quite true. As his squire, she’s in a prime position to search for the missing Sinclair jewels, and she’s willing to go through the very Devil himself to find them.

But will she lose her heart in the process?

The search for the missing Sinclair jewels continue & Sapphire travels to the Sutherlands. She’s the scholar in the family, not the warrior…but how hard could it be to don a pair of braies, lop off her hair, and approach the Sutherlands as a lad? But she's caught, accused of spying for John Lindsay and thrown into the dungeons to starve! The best way to learn her secrets is to keep her close, so Merrick makes “Saf” his squire, without revealing what he’s already learned.
Saffy is the third of the four Sinclair Jewels to find love & this has to be my favourite of the series so far. Pearl had refused to marry Merrick as he’s old, has loads of illegitimate children & he’s known as Devil but Saffy who is a few years older than her younger sister Pearl is fascinated by Merrick. Whilst I loved the bookworm, scholarly Saffy who was feisty & adorable, I adored Merrick, the teasing of Saf, his love for his children & the real man behind the façade. The chemistry between the pair was combustible & I was engrossed & enthralled in their journey to a HEA which often had me on the edge of my seat.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Merrick Sutherland, known as the Sutherland Devil and Sapphire Sinclair, one of the "Jewels" of the Sinclair Laird are an unlikely pair, and yet perfect together and what each of them needs. Saffy has come to the Sutherland keep to look for her missing jewel. Not trusting the newcomer, Merrick takes in Saf as his squire, to keep an eye on her. Loved how smart and strong Saffy is and Merrick surprises you with his depth and compassion. Part of a series, but can be read as a standalone, as all is well explained.Highly recommend.

Book three is Saffy's story and what a hoot! Saffy is trying to sneak onto Sutherland land as a boy but is caught and imprisoned. Merrick has how many children? and is surprised to find a cross dressing girl in his castle. Finding the jewel was Saffy's goals. Falling in love was not in the plans. Looking forward to the final book.

Saffy is one of the Sinclair "Jewels." She and her sisters have found one of the missing Sinclair jewels. The next clue leads them to the Sutherlands. Merrick, the Sutherland laird, has quite the reputation. He's known for cruelty and multiple children. Saffy goes to the Sutherland lands in disguise and is capture. Although she is dressed as a boy, she catches the attention of Merrick.

Saffy is a strong woman who is protective of those she loves. I'm enjoying this series and can't wait to find out how it ends. Antony Ferguson does a great job narrating this series.

"The Sutherland Devil" is book three in "The Sinclair Jewels" series by Caroline Lee. Saffy wants to try and find another one of their family Jewels and finds out that there might be one at the Sutherlands place. So she goes "undercover" as Seth and gets caught. Merrick is known as the Devil by most and is trying not to show his vulnerable side. He was once promised to a Sinclair sister, but she ended up marrying someone else. Merrick wants to continue his family name, but a lot of people don't know the true story behind him, and he does not let his walls down for just anyone. I enjoyed the action in this story and the love that was there in the families. My favorite part is the relationship that Saffy forms with Merrick and how she was trying to fool everyone by acting like a guy.

4 stars Caroline Lee

Stars 4 (Margaret Mallory, Julie Johnstone, Monica McCarty, Lynsay Sands, Donna Fletcher)

I love series around family members or a group of friends. I love the series even more when the author intertwines those characters throughout the book series (it’s a pet peeve when authors don’t do that because what’s the point of the series and introducing the characters if they are not going to interact throughout the series). You get past book characters (sisters) in this story, usually in the beginning and the end.

I loved the writing around the women empowerment (it wasn’t over the top for me). Badass women rock.

Movement of the book flowed for the most part. Book writing/conversation engaging. The Scottish dialogue wasn’t difficult to follow.

Laugh out loud humorous moments.

Romantic /sexual content (kissing, oral and love making scenes) was throughout the book. Nothing over the top, some ‘dirty’ words intertwined rightly in the story telling. Short story 2.5/5 hotness and steam.

Totally recommend author.

Will read the next book by the author.

You don’t have to read the book in order however I think you miss the true story of it’s not read in its order.

Loving this series!

This is the third installment of The Sinclair Jewels series and tells the story of Sapphire aka Saffy Sinclaire. Saddy and her twin Citrine decide that Saffy should disguise herself as a guy and infiltrate The Sutherland Devil's lair to find one of the missing jewels. Saffy almost loses her life on this quest on more than one occaision. But, when she loses her heart to the Sutherland devil, now that it is dangerous on another level.

This is just a great story, it's fullof wit, humor, danger, sexual tension and lots of heart. I love the characters, even the supporting cast is great. I can't wait for Citrine's story!

Searching for the Sinclair Jewel

Daffy Sinclair became a squire for the Devil himself. Merrick Southerland knew she was a Lass the minute he carried her from the dungeon. He thought she was a spy for his bastard brother and was determined to make her talk. Saffron and Merrick fell in love and his half brother was destroying his estate. With all their secrets could they find happiness and recover the Sinclair Jewel. You will need to read and determine if Sinclair was the monster devil with 9 illegitimate children or a good man misunderstood.

At first I was excited about the jewels and guiding along with Sappy, dressed as a lad.
Once she's there in Sutherland's keep and I have learned Merrick has many children! (Gasp) I felt gross and didn't like him except that he's good man for taking in his children. When I found out that most of them weren't his that he had claimed them as his own. I have changed my opinion of him I like him!

Merrick ♥️ Sappy

Exciting adventure

Loved this story! The third in the Sinclair Jewels series, it doesn't disappoint! Dressed as a lad, even cutting her hair, Sapphire becomes Saf and tries to fool the "Devil" of the Sutherlands! This begins an adventure to find the list Sinclair jewels that she and her sisters are named for. A quick read, I couldn't put it down! Great read!

Dijuluki The Sutherland Devil tapi gak devil-devil amat. Malah orgnya flirty, wise & family man (punya anak banyak).

Great book! This is book 3 of The Sinclair Jewels but you can read it as a standalone. You don't need to read the first 2 but you should. They are great too and gives you a little more of a backstory of the Sinclair sisters. I gotta say, I read the first two books so I wanted to continue with the series, but wasn't sure I'd like this book based on the blurb about it. Not that I wouldn't like the writing (because everything Caroline Lee writes is great), I just didn't think I'd like the H...too many things going against him...BUT I WAS WRONG! I love the Devil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Such a great book, so many mysteries being solved within the book, so many secrets revealed. This book is about Laird Merrick Sutherland, the Devil and Sapphire Sinclair, Saffy. It was amazing! Merrick is a big teddybear! Saffy is way stronger than the scholarly sister everyone thinks she is. I devoured the book. Best book of the 3 so far.

I received a free copy of the book for my honest review

Can love change a man? Well, maybe not, but the right woman can definitely help him become a better man. And that’s what happens in this book. Merrick, the so-called Sutherland Devil, has always been a good man, but he needed someone to guide his temper and steady him. And he found that someone in Saffy! I simply ADORED this book!
Loved the emotional writing, loved the steam, loved the full-rounded characters and their struggle. Loved the humor and the suspense. This entire series is wonderful, a real treat, and I find myself more and more engrossed in the reading and captivated by the world that comes to life on the pages written by this astounding author! A veritable “jewel” of a book, much as the Sinclair Jewels of the series title!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I think this book would be a better reread than initial read. There's a few things that the reader assumes which are bad, and it turns out to be incorrect. It's not like they were big reveals to begin with, it just made the characters seem worse. On a reread those little things are "spoiled" so maybe it'll be a more pleasant read.

The age gap is a bit awkward, made more so by the fact that the book keeps mentioning how close Saph is in age to his eldest. But I'm glad she's old enough to know what she wants ..even if it doesn't fully make sense in the societal context. He's kind of a hypocrite for not wanting his daughter to sleep with her boyfriend, when he is sleeping with a woman.

But it was still an interesting book, more plot than the others, and more characters with actual personalities.

Good old fashioned adventure story with some romance and sex thrown into the mix. The only real problem I had with this book is that Saffy starts off as the mild mannered scholarly sister and then becomes strong willed and adventurous almost overnight. Her calm acceptance of being in a violent skirmish and killing a man is very strange reaction from any young lady let alone Saffy as she starts out.

However, this is an entertaining book and an enjoyable read.

Chaos

Loved the chaotic mess in this story, with the children especially. Only Sapphire could organize this mess for sure. Loved the banter between these two!

Too funny

A young woman who pretends to be a boy in order to hunt down missing jewels. This story has a great treasure hunt, mistaken identity, treachery, and HEA.

This one shows never to judge someone based on rumors because you may find out that person isn't as cold hearted as you may have heard. They may have a heart of gold. As with the case of Sutherland he is no devil.. He takes in children who aren't his but are actually his brothers' illegitimate children and claims them as his own so they have his protection and they can be fed and well loved and taken care.. A devil with a heart of gold ❤
