Iniko dreams of a day he and his baby sister won’t have to eat scraps to survive. One day, his friend comes up with a plan for the three of them to steal a giant’s necklace—an artifact worth enough to lift them out of poverty.
Not wanting to risk his life, or integrity, Iniko refuses. But when his friend kidnaps his baby sister to execute the plan anyway, Iniko is left with no choice.
Events unravel, and now he must navigate the underground world of thievery, tread perilous lands filled with armies of man-eating, magic-wielding giants, and leave behind what innocence he had left, to save her.
From street dweller to infamous thief, Iniko believes there’s no hope after what he’s become. But if he can rescue his baby sister, will he find redemption? Join Iniko in an adventure-quest of magic and sorrow, a tale of survival in dangerous lands, and how one boy's grapple with virtue will take him to places no thief has ever gone before.
Daniel Paul Rowell has always been a storyteller at heart, having spent his younger years either lost in the pages of a good book or reenacting entire movie scenes after a single watch—much to the amusement (and occasional concern) of his family.
Nowadays, he’s taken to his trusty keyboard to craft the epic tales he imagined all along; where the impossible becomes the everyday, and every adventure starts with a leap of faith. When he’s not dreaming up new worlds or nudging his characters toward greatness, you might catch him strumming his guitar or losing at chess. Because, as the great Durwood Fincher (AKA Mr. Doubletalk) once said, “Mistakes are just stepping stones . . . to failure.”
But beneath all the fantasy and fun, D.P. Rowell writes with a purpose: to inspire readers to find their own courage, trust in a greater plan, and embrace the adventure of life—no matter where they start. So, if you’re up for a journey filled with wonder, mystery, and maybe a few laughs along the way, you’ve come to the right place. Daniel is here to guide you through the story, one gripping chapter at a time.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
After reading The King, The Thief, and the Dragon, and loving it I wanted to read more about the Vranon Lore the D.P. Rowell has created. It did not disappoint. While it is a stand alone Vranon Lore book it gives you insight into how the Scaeth came about! Soo tricky and twisted I definitely wished bad things upon Sidero. I’m looking forward to reading more Vranon Lore! I recommend to fantasy lovers.
A novella with 1260 pp.? In fact that should read location. Iniko is a street urchin whose best friend has fallen prey to giants. Iniko sets out on a journey to find him. Why a colony of giants would need a walled town is a mystery but Iniko sets it on fire. What he learns is a story of deception and betrayal.
A nice quick read. I felt for Iniko, but I was glad that he finally saw the truth about his friend. And I was happy that Bella was living in a safe loving home at the end of the story. It's a good introduction to the world this series takes place in.
