Dark Beast

Rate this book
I walked the land for ages, fighting monsters, collecting coin, and keeping humanity safe even when they turned their backs on me long ago. An innocent human girl, especially one on the run, should have been of no interest to me.

Beasts like me weren’t meant to find love.

When I found her fighting for her life, I took matters into my own hands. I made a vow to protect her, and I mean to keep it, even if that means stripping her bare, marking her bottom with my belt, and forcing one heart-stopping climax from her beautiful body after the next as many times as necessary to convince her that she’s mine.

I can protect her from the world, but no one is going to protect her from a monster like me.

Publisher's Note: Dark Beast includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

So I thought parts of this story were great. The theme was very much The Witcher. I have read some of those books, played a few of the games and have seen the TV series. This is The Witcher with a different name for Geralt. The ideas are similar and that is ultimately what kind of turned me off I guess. That and the amount of spanking. I'm all for a good spanking BUT, I felt like it was overdone in this book. I know that it says in at the beginning before you ever read it that the spanking is there but I thought that meant like once or twice... not four or five times. I felt like the way it was written, I was confused if she was enjoying it or if it was hurting her and was borderline rape-y. I'm really glad that we get dual POV or else I probably WOULD have thought it was rape. Ainsel does love her and it's just the way he finds pleasure. I'm happy we get confirmation on that. Let's just say that I am glad that she heals fast because it sounds like she is in pain all the time.

I think the story itself (not talking about the sex scenes) was actually written well. I think there could have been more story/explanation and less spanking/sex. I feel like the reader would be able to connect more if the story was at the forefront and not the sex.

I would I recommend everyone read this book? No. Would I recommend this book if you wanted to read spank porn? Yes. Is it a bad book? No. Was it my thing? No. Could it be your thing? Yes.

So it's like the witcher but smut/erotica. That's the best way to describe this book. We never knew who the two conpanions were who died on the first act, I thought they would be more important.

Dark Fae versus a witch. Let the sparks begin. There’s so much about this story that I loved. Ansiel and Layna were magnetic together. I really liked their chemistry AND the fighting. The story itself was intriguing and the way they worked together. Obviously, it wouldn’t be a Sara Fields story if everything was hunky dorey, and I loved those times most of all.

Beast, monster, witch…the accusations from humans fly, but you’ll quickly come to realize that Ansiel and Layna aren’t the monsters, even though they’re treated as such. Hmmm…bit of a modern discussion ala paranormal romance. Did I mention the chemistry? THOSE were hot. So. Very. Hot.

Okay read I guess lots of sword play and action. The h is very skilled and can hold her own. The H likes to spank his woman a lot. I mean they can’t even have any kind of sex unless he spanks her and I mean not a little tap and not just on her backside. It got to be cringe worthy at times. I know this how this author writes so I wasn’t surprised, but it got to be way over the top. The h loved it so whom am I to judge. Keeps you reading due to the action and plot.

Hmmm it was good, but felt a bit repetitive to me. I loved the setting and the feel of the book, but I started skimming some of the spankings (because how many do we need?) and the fight scenes. I would have also liked a bit of a more elaborate scene with ‘the mating’. It was sort of just a declaration ‘you are now my mate’. So even though I enjoyed the book and read it in one day, it could have been even better. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Witch of the Red Sun is a myth.

Or is it?

Many believed it to be true. That is the reason Layna along with her two protectors never remained in one spot for long. But travel can be fraught with danger. A need for supplies forced Layna, Hendrik and Zoltar to venture into town. It is now Layna knows her time has come. She will never be free. She will always be fighting for her very life due to the circumstances of her birth. Meanwhile, The Dark Fae, Ansiel, has been tasked to locate the witch. This he does, just in the nick of time for Hendrik and Zoltar are killed and Ansiel skillfully whisks Layna out the back promising to protect her.

She doesn’t believe him.

Layna has been on the run for so long that she trusts no one. Yet, Ansiel will make her trust him by taking a firm hand to her bottom until she believes his word. While Hidgar is the main worry, monsters are being drawn to Layna. Ansiel has no idea why this is happening. It is known monsters are drawn by magic. While he is magical, monsters ignore him. Layna is human. Yet the strange occurrences continue. They must find out why. And soon.

Staying one step ahead of the monsters and Hidgar is the key. Finding the answers will be a bonus. Join Layna and Ansiel as they learn to trust another on the quest to survive both kin and monsters alike. Do be aware of the erotic scenes that is definitely not reading material for everyone. With explicit sex along with spanking, Ansiel must reprimand his mate on multiple occasions until Layna understands she is no longer alone.

Sara Fields has created a fantasy world combining magical beings mixed in with the human race. It’s a dark place few will wander and come out unscathed. And perfect for an endless night as the fantasy unfolds directly before your eyes.

I received this book as an advance review copy free from Booksprout. I have read and reviewed this book voluntarily.

What a cracker of a story by Ms. Fields. It's action-packed with a healthy
dose of magic. Toss in the many spankings and sex scenes, and your
left with the complete package to ignite your senses. I did feel that
Ansiel's punishments were harsh at times. What a unique pair. They
fitted together like pieces of a puzzle. Two outcasts made for each
other. I loved the baptism of fire when Layna finally had her revenge.

Imagine being haunted and hunted all your life because of when you
were born. This was Layna’s reality, and when her two trusted guards
were killed, she was left with no protection, and her fight for survival
was much harder. You had to admire her spirit as she never give up.
Layna found it difficult to trust Ansiel, but he proved his worth one
spanking at a time. Ansiel was a Dark Fae who co-existed with humans.
He was always in control until he recognised that Layna was his mate.
From that moment, his goal was to protect her, but she gave him a
run for his money.

There is no way that you would get bored reading this book. I loved
the fight scenes and was so glad there was a HEA. This was a book
that you could let your imagination run loose and just enjoy.

Dark Fae and His Warrior

Forever maked for the timing of her birth Layna has been in hiding all her life, branded a witch of the sun fire for no reason, she has been surviving by moving around in the forests until she loses her protecter and friends in a brawl only to have fate step in bringing Anseil to become her protecto
Anseil had already turned down a contract to kill Layna but when he met her his fierce protectiveness takes over and Layna isn’t one to submit and obey, so there is plenty of punishment involved..
I really enjoyed this dark mystical adventure and treacherous times of fae, witches and monsters added with a touch of hot spanking steaminess making this is a definite spicy read that I’ve come to know from Ms Fields…

I have read Sara Fields' books before, and I must say I was intrigued with the Fae Shifter part in the title, so I dove in without reading the blurb, I like Layna's character, the storyline however felt like it could've been more, it dragged on parts and went to fast in others, the world-building was good, but it felt short from what it could've been. Ansiel is a hot alpha, if you like fated mates, and dark fantasy romance, give it a go.

It took me personally a little bit longer to get into this book but once I started to like it I couldn’t set it down. Both characters com from a hard past the girl character is very strong will and independent it feels like she was born. Nobody really liked her just so say her has a witch so she is use to fighting and everything else on her own. The fae live off getting dangerous killing other monsters jobs. So what happens when fate brings these two hard head characters together will they be able to change and help each other for the better? Find out in this great quick crime with funny parts too books!.

It almost felt like two different stories

It wasn't, but first there was the story of Layna trying to escape an evil lord who believes she's a witch and needs to die for nothing more than refusing him as a teen. Ansiel the monster killer is asked to take her out, but when he realizes she's human, he refuses. And the rest is history... I do like that even though he's upset, he does let Layna solve her own problems, and protects her then punishes her later.

The second "story" is more erotica/BDSM. You're warned in the write up, so I'm not upset by it. It just felt to me like they did everything backwards. The harsher stuff came first, and the "lighter" stuff came later.

Running towards her fate

This book is a deliciously hot read that is full of action, danger, and an alpha male who won’t allow anything to happen to his one once he finds her. The author started the book right away with the action and heat that I crave. The characters were well written and fully developed. I could practically hear them speak in my mind. I enjoyed each moment of the journey as they made their way to the HEA. This is one of those authors where I purchase her books and leave them in my To Be Read folder until I’m in the mood for a hot and spicy read. She never disappoints and I can’t wait to read her next book.

A deliciously dark Fae shifter romance read.

A deliciously dark Fae shifter romance read. Layna has always had to be strong especially since being on the run. When the road ends with losing her two companions, she didn’t expect Ansiel. They meet during a heartbreaking time for her, but she cannot deny their steamy chemistry. I love Ansiel’s protectiveness and alpha attitude torward Layna, it made for some hot loving. Danger, excitement and a whole lot of heat level made for an enjoyable romance story.

Ansiel, a Dark Fae, is sent to kill Layna. Layna has been fighting all of her life until she meets Ansiel and he is determined to protect her because she is his fated mate. This is a dark, twisted, action packed, paranormal romance with spankings, punishments, rough sex, and fated mates. Dark Beast is an entertaining read with intriguing characters and a great ending. The story line was good however I felt it needed more world building and a little more character evolution. The book has the potential to be a very good book.

It’s a dark romance but I felt there was too much time spent on spanking… drawn out for the sake of adding to the word count.

Wow..

I always enjoy reading any new books by Sara Fields. This one was no different. A feisty strong heroine and the large alpha who demands her all. The story was unique and I loved it. A must read.

A good read

I didn't understand why Ansiel was so drawn to Layna. Many things weren't really explained well, I thought. The enemy was really out to get her, because ... She turned him down when she was 15?

I never know what I'm going to get when I open a book by Ms. Fields but I always know I won't be disappointed. Her stories are all very different but her characters are always strong, engaging, and easy to connect with. Her plots are always full of surprises and twists and turns, and the danger level is always high. She blends fantasy and steam together in a way that keeps you captivated from the beginning of the book to the end, and I'm always left breathless when I reach the last page. Layna and Ansiel's story was all that and more. I highly recommend it!

It’s ok.
Quite heavy on the spanking/punishment to the point I skipped over here and there.
Also a lot reminds you of The Witcher.

Talk about your shifters, beasts and faes what more could you ask for and in true Sara Fields way Layna is unique in her own way born during a very rare eclipse that had a red ring around the black sun since this is such a rare event she is wanted or haunted by the witch of the red sun because they think she is something else but that didn’t start them from haunting for her blood since she came from a witch, monster, daughter of the devil and killing her family thus ensuring her capture or so the witch thought. Layna has been fighting to survive with her two protectors off the beaten path only going around others when they really need supplies. Ansiel sexy as all get out Dark Fae one of the few that are left at one point they were fierce warriors, protecting the world from the monsters that truly scare but once humans saw they became the haunted forced to hide just to survive but living with humans fearing them, treating them with disgust, being called monsters and fighting to survive they work by contract only moving from place to place so when hired through a contract thinking he is to protect a monster only to discover it is a young women they call witch of the red sun but he knows it is myth and she is just a human who needs his protection so turning down all other contracts of course upsetting a few so on his way notice a fight between one women and two men the same women whom he is supposed to be protecting. There adventure is just beginning but getting her to trust him after fighting so long, losing everyone she loves so trusting isn’t something that comes easy for her. But after learning he only wants to ensure she lives the life she deserves but fear of everyone they meet along the way is making it hard to trust but will she trust him enough to stand with him or run, will she give him reason to spank her (I am sure she will 😊, will she get to live the life she wants of peace, will they make through what’s headed their way, and will these two who badly need a HEA get one considering they have been running, will they get a chance to live?.
