Holding You

Rate this book
I thought I could control myself. I thought I could have a quick taste.
I was dead wrong.

One slow dance and a kiss in my empty restaurant was all it took for me to fall for the babysitter.

When Eliza Hemming lost her nursing job after saving my daughter’s life, my protective streak took over and I offered her a job.

Now she has me wanting things I can’t have.

She’s everything I’m not—young, impulsive, and fun. My control unravels with every bite of her lip, lingering touch, and forbidden kiss.

Being a single dad and running a business in small-town Havenport is complicated on a good day. I’m just a grumpy forty-one-year-old trying to keep all the balls in the air.

Can I juggle everything or will something drop? And if it’s my heart, will I survive the fall?

Author’s Note: Holding You is a full-length, standalone, grumpy-sunshine romance featuring a reformed bad boy hero, a plucky heroine, a spicy age gap, and a guaranteed happily ever after. May contain adult language, graphic sexy times, long walks on the beach, motorcycle rides, sarcastic children, and lots of discussions of food. If this is your first visit to Havenport, welcome and get ready to swoon.

"I know I'm a fixer-upper. I know that I am not even close to good enough for you. But you are my Princess Anna."
Do you believe in psychics? Do you believe in soulmates, or that there's someone out there for you? What if a psychic told you there is, and that you're bound to be together, and he even lives in the same town you do? Wouldn't that knock your socks off?
And how about if it all turned out to be true, even if it seems far-fetched or kind of impossible?

I've read quite a few books by Daphne Elliot, and this has been my favorite one so far. This was a 4.5 star read for me.

"His scowl was infamous, his bad mood perpetual."
Matteo is the grumpy, single dad. He is juggling taking care of his kid, Valentina, who is adorable and so freaking smart, and handling his restaurant. On top of that, his ex is giving him a hard time, and Val has some health issues. So, as you can imagine, he's in over his head most of the time. And even with lots of help from friends and family, he's alone, but because he has so much on his plate, maybe he's just not expecting his love life to pick up again. He's resigned himself to what he has.

"Her laugh made me happy, and her smile made me feel less alone in the world. And when she touched me, it ignited a fire in my veins."
Eliza is a ray of sunshine. She's a nurse, and she takes her job seriously. She's caring, considerate, and wants to be there for the people she loves. She's also a freaking badass when it comes to standing up for her patients, even in front of her superiors. She has ADHD, and she's handling it the best way she can. However, she's resigned to not finding real love in her life either. She's very much mistaken.

"He grinned. Full-on grinned and I almost drooled. He had dimples. Motherfucking dimples."
When Valentina has to go to the hospital due to an asthma attack, Matteo and Eliza meet. They know each other since they live in the same small town of Havenport, but when she stands up for his kid he sees her in a different light.
She's suspended from her job, and he hires her as Val's babysitter. Suddenly, sparks are flying everywhere between them, and one very sexy slow dance opens the way to so much more.

"It had been so long since anyone had looked at me with naked lust in their eyes."
There's so much chemistry between them. I know this is supposed to be an age-gap romance, he’s 41 and she’s 29, but I honestly couldn't care less because they're absolutely perfect together. It's not only the physical side (which was hot) but the way they fit, even if they're both stubborn and can't see what they have. Yeah, they’re keeping it casual... as if that would ever be enough for these two!

Bonus points for Valentina, who was absolutely amazing, Eliza's friends (I need a group of friends like that in my life!) and Gio, Matteo's brother. I can't wait to see his story next!

"I know I'm not perfect, but I'd like to be perfect for you someday."
These two people are very much imperfect, like we all are, but they’re better when they’re together. They think they’re undeserving, and that they’ll never find someone who accepts them as they are, because they can’t see... it’s already happened. All they need is to hold on to what's there, and not let go.

Holding You is book 2 of the Rossi Family series by Daphne Elliot. It’s a standalone contemporary romance. Dual POV with a happy ending.

Tropes:
➵ single father
➵ age gap
➵ small town
➵ opposites attract / grumpy-sunshine
➵ neuro diverse heroine

Single father and restaurant owner Matteo Rossi doesn’t have a minute to spare. He’s not looking for love, a relationship or even a hook up. Until his eight-year-old daughter’s asthma lands them in the ER and is defended and cared for by the beautiful Eliza Hemming, he can’t help but fall a little bit in love with her then and there.

When she’s put on leave from the hospital, Matteo asks her to help babysit the precocious Valentina. What Matteo doesn’t know is that Eliza harbors a secret crush on the handsome chef.

After one slow dance leads to more, the two give in to their attraction starting a secret affair. Can Matteo get past his hang ups in order to get them a real shot?

I enjoyed this story very much. It was fun, sexy and sweet. Eliza is an incredible heroine. She’s caring, fun and knows how to live life. She’s also smart, determined and easy to like. But I mostly liked how Daphne handles her ADHD with care.

Matteo had all the characteristics of a wonderful hero. He’s a dedicated father, hard worker, and a wonderful brother. But he was a bit too hot and cold with Eliza and making unilateral decisions about their relationship.

They had no problems when it came to intimacy, though. They fogged up my glasses and burned up my eReader.

I also loved how his family, her friends and the entire town rallied around them.

Oh my cheesy goodness! I LOVED this! It was cheesy and predictable, but so wholesome, adorable and charming!

This is the story of Matteo and Eliza. Matteo is a hot, ex-badass, 41 year old single dad, who is struggling with balancing everything in his life: his business, his personal life and raising his daughter on his own. When his daughter has an asthma attack and has to be rushed to the ER, he meets nurse Eliza and feels an instant attraction to her. The feeling is mutual and Eliza can’t stop thinking about him. Life throws Matteo and Eliza together and obvi they end up living HEA together. The ending was just beyond adorable!

Aside from Eliza and Matteo, I adored all of the other characters. The book takes place in a small town and there are a lot of charming small-town shenanigans.

I read this as a stand alone and I didn’t feel like I missed anything by not reading the first book in the series. Although it was so charming that I will for sure read the rest of the books!

I have zero patience for grown man acting like a teenager. Matteo is 40 years old, acting like 18 and dating a woman in her late twenties but treating her like she’s nineteen. I. Don’t. Have. Time. For. This.

Also, this book is a cheap copy of Irresistible from Melanie Harlow. It’s the exact same plot, single parent who falls for a younger woman and spent the entire time saying he can’t have a relationship because of his obligations but doesn’t want to give up fucking her.

Well Daphne Elliot has definitely done it again, she has created an amazing grumpy man that is definitely hiding one hot alpha male 🥵🥵🥵. Matteo is a single dad of probably the most adorable little girl, who is a complete force to be reckoned with. I seriously love that girl.

Then you get the amazing woman that is Eliza. I love her and all of the woman in her friend group. Eliza is a strong woman who stands for what she believes in & by doing so, sends her on a great journey with Matteo.

These two have such explosive chemistry & I loved every minute of their book!

I really enjoyed this book. Ok, so I am not a huge fan of "silver fox" older men romances but after reading this book, I may have to start reading more of these types of books. A man who is a great father, can cook, and looks hot shirtless....yes, please! Although, Matteo's daughter, Val may beg to differ at times about her father; in fact, Val called Matteo "stinky face" at one point. I love kids in stories. You never know what is going to come out of their mouths.

Instantly, I connected with Eliza. She is very kind-hearted and a joy to get to know. Together, she and Matteo were heating up the pages of this book. The first time that they got intimate was hot but every time after that was even hotter. If grumpy, single father translates to sexy, older man than I am all in!

Oh my gosh this was such a great story. Age Gap/ grumpy/Sunshine Small town romance. Eliza and Matteo make the best couple. Single Dad who will do anything for his kid. That kid is a crack up she totally is a kid that you want to have around! I absolutely loved the Lifeguard Hut scene! I can't wait to ready more about the Rossi Family. This is my first Daphne Elliot read and will not be my last. He style of writing got my attention and hooked me from the beginning of the story and had to find out more. Great story and look forward to reading more form Daphne!!

I already loved the Rossi family before I read this book but Matteo and Eliza's story just makes me wish I was a part of it. I was absorbed in this story and the chemistry and banter between Matteo and Eliza. It was all SPOT-ON!
There was a time near the end when I got a little upset with Matteo but I knew Daphne would make me love him again, and she did.
Such a fun and fast-paced read that I found myself completely immersed in. But then again, I've come to expect that from Daphne Elliot and she did not disappoint once again.

Matteo is hot. Eliza is instantly likeable. The kid is cute without being unbelievably so. Must be a Daphne Elliot novel :D

I really like that Matteo screwed up, AND took accountability for it, AND took responsibility for learning better and doing better, AND made up for it in a big way :D

An easy five stars to award - escapist yet thoughtful.

Holding You was nothing I expected, and I loved it! This story was full of surprises, unexpected, sensual, tender, funny moments and others very, very frustrating, but I think it was all worth it because in the end Matteo, Eliza & Valentina find the family and love they deserve, and the best plus of this book was that I got to know much more about Gio & Gina and read a little about what their stories could be!!

Eliza is an absolute queen, her character was definitely my favorite and I LOVED the growth she had throughout the book! She's a nurse who is not afraid to confront her superiors for defending her patients, she is a strong, brave, understanding and very affectionate woman, one of the things I liked most about her was that, although Matteo makes mistakes and hurts her several times, she always tries to make him see what a good father he is to Valentina, plus I really liked the way [ author:Daphne Elliot|21191191] approached the subject of her ADHD and how this served to bond her and Val even more, but the best thing about this character was her attitude and reactions to Matteo's behavior towards the end of the book, without a doubt we need more protagonists like her in our lives.

On the other hand, for most of the book I had a love-hate relationship with Matteo: physically he's EVERYTHING I like in a man, and although I'm not the biggest fan of age-gap I think things between him and Eliza work very well!, he's a loving father who does everything to keep his little Valentina happy and safe, he's a responsible man who works hard to keep on its feet his business and that he has no life beyond his responsibilities, something that broke my heart a lot, because Matteo also spends a large part of the book believing that he isn't enough to make Eliza happy, to keep Val safe and to take care of everything else, BUT those insecurities lead him to make a lot of mistakes and bad decisions that end up hurting Eliza in the process, and I was really scared of how Daphne would handle this whole situation, luckily she did it in the best way, and for me, the only possible way, something that I think is not very common for us to read in characters like Matteo and that we also need to see a lot more. PLEASE!

And even in spite of the details that I didn't like in Matteo's character, I loved the way in which it was given his relationship with Eliza. These two begin to get to know each other much better when Eliza begins to be the nanny of Valentina, Matteo's little daughter, and from their first meeting I can see the chemistry they have and the beautiful bond between Val & Eliza, plus the little girl is incredibly sweet, cute, funny and tries to play cupid to her dad more than once. Matteo & Eliza have a slightly more complicated relationship than they should due to Matteo's fears, insecurities and pressure, something that, as I said, made me very frustrated, but also makes me see how complex the life of the hero of this story is and how Eliza came into his life to give him the turn he needed in more than one sense, in addition to the fact that all this helps her to discover her value, and what he wants from her professional and romantic future, that's why I think you have to give this book a chance, even if you think that the love relationship is not going the right way, the ending is the best and you have to reading it.

🩺Eliza: 5/5
🩺Matteo: 3.5 / 5 - Because he made me suffer a lot, but the ending for his character couldn't have been better or more perfect.

🩺Trama: 5/5
🩺Historia de amor: 4/5

Daphne Elliot has cooked up an electric romance between Eliza and Matteo, their chemistry captured with a sizzle and a pop in this delicious blend of ink on a page!

Grumpy x sunshine meets passion and devotion in this hot new romance that balances sexy and sweet so beautifully. Fun, bold, and confident, Eliza was an immediate joy to read, but what I admired most was her no-nonsense attitude and the way she advocated for what was right even when it meant challenging others. She was a character one backed, her courage and fire in every situation revered.

Matteo’s struggles were equally well portrayed, his devotion to his restaurant and his daughter, Valentina, a demanding balancing act. He has little time for himself, let alone another. And yet, he can’t help falling for the lively babysitter! The chemistry between these two was so well written, and I loved the strong family ties that Elliot worked in alongside this, the support of the Rossi clan enveloping Matteo as he continued to fight for Eliza and Val. And what a queen Val was!! I adored her, and she is easily one of my favourite children characters, and all of her frozen references (and a certain inspired performance) were appreciated 😍

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and the different layers Elliot has worked with, and the Rossi family is one I’d love to follow. I can’t wait to see what Gio’s story will bring to the table next!

If you’re a fan of age-gaps, the single parent trope, and a little forbidden tossed through your romance, then do yourself a favour and order yourself a serving of this tasty treat. You’re sure to be satisfied by this perfectly imperfect love affair with its hearty foundation.

I received an advanced copy from the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

I seriously can't get enough of this world Daphne has created. I absolutely adore it and each and every one of these loveable and relatable characters.
And...
The Rossi Family are no exception. They are large, overbearing, hilarious, real, and so heartwarmingly supportive.
In 'Holding You' we get Matteo and Eliza's and I could not have loved these two for each other any more.
Sexy Single Dad Matteo damn him and his doubt and grumpiness put my emotions through the wringer.
He had me swooning hard, wanting to hug him, give him a friendly (cough cough) love tap across the face, and be the little spoon his big spoon. Pretty much all at the same time.. hehe.
And....
Matteo's daughter Valentina, god I adored her. She's like a mini Nora, sweet and soooo sassy. She's is going to be a force when she gets older.
When Eliza enters their world! I instantly loved her. She is quirky, strong, fun, sweet and her take no BS attitude heck yes!
Her sweet bond with Valentina was heartwarming, but her connection and chemistry with Matteo is pure perfection and let's just say a little H-O-T.
Matteo is a control freak that continues to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders.
Will he finally learn to ask for help so he can have it all? Or will he push Eliza away and lose her forever?
Wowsers these two took me on a journey...
It was the perfect blend of all the good stuff... humour, steam, angst, swoony moments, amazing friendships, wonderful families, and steam did I say steam? Oh yes I did!!!

This was another wonderful read from Daphne Elliot and after the sneak peek I can't wait for the next book in the Rossi Family Series.

A small town, age gap romance that will have you turning from page to page so quickly. This was such a great book and the steaminess and chemistry of the characters could be felt through the screen.

Matteo Rossi. Single dad, chef, hot as hell. This man. The way he is with his daughter, Valentina, for one is so adorable. He’s so loving but so protective of her. When he sets his eyes on Eliza, it’s a journey of ups and downs for him.

Eliza. Strong, quirky and an amazing nurse who isn’t afraid to fight for her patients. When she gets suspended, Matteo offers her a job of taking care of his daughter, Valentina. As you can imagine, sparks, fireworks, everything flies between them.

There was a lot of back and forth from Matteo which at times had me a bit annoyed despite understanding where he was coming from. Matteo struggled a bit on communication which ended up hurting Eliza a couple of times.

By the end of it, after countless lectures from friends and family, Matteo finally realizes the value Eliza has in his and his daughters lives.

A very cute, steamy read. I think the single dad trope is becoming a quick favorite of mine for sure.

Let me just say I absolutely loved the female ADHD representation in this book. I love being able to relate to a character I'm reading.

Other than that I do have to say tiktok tricked me. I got this book on KU because of videos saying there was lots of smut, and dirty talk. I'll be honest and say I'm a sucker for some age gap smut. And this didn't really deliver the way I was expecting it to based off those reviews on tiktok. In my opinion I'd give this 🌶.5/5. Which is fine it was still a great book and not the authors fault that other people overhyped up the smut.

The book was really cute and I loved the characters. The only thing I could have done without was the way he won her back. I cringed so hard.

Overall, cute book, and a good read. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was so cute!
Although the star of this book was definitely Val, our hero's daughter. She was funny and witty and sweet and amazing!
Our mcs were sweet together and had great chemistry Although I wasn't fond of the back and forth with their relationship that last part with the groveling won me over.
My favorite part of the books was the family aspects tho. It was great to see supportive family but also family that calls you out even when you're wrong. It was fantastic.
Overall a fantastic addition to the series.

Thank you to the author for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I dnf'd this one.
Hold on.
As someone with adhd, this was incredibly well researched (or the author also has adhd) in the minute day to day small things.
But... between the obvious adhd lovebombing stage AND the 'on the downlow because of a kid' partner, I couldn't get past page 149. I have no idea how the story ended but I could not deal with that trope.

The writing was okay, it was a cute read for as long as I lasted but the dialog was a lot more cheesy and generic than the previous books I've read from this author. Not my favorite from the authors works.

This book was so lame. Matteo was such a problematic MMC. I have literally no empathy for him. yes his daughter is a little sickly, yes he’s a business owner and a single dad.. but there is no excuse for the way he treated Eliza. She should’ve run in the other direction when he wanted to keep her a secret.

I usually can find at least one redeeming quality in MMCs but idk if i can for this one.

Holding You: The Rossi Family (Book 2): by Daphne Elliot

Attention! Attention! NOBODY writes hot, sexy, tattooed grumpy hotness like Daphne Elliott does. Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce you to Matteo Rossi! Who according to Eliza Hemming is AKA, “Grumpy Man Bear.” Lol Once again, I’m feeling the need to move to Havenport!

Meet Matteo Rossi. A single dad who is trying to hold down the fort at home and work, while carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders to ensure he’s the “perfect” dad to his amazing daughter Valentina.

Eliza is funny, smart, caring and impulsive. Fighter of the underdog and protector of her patients. She was a nurse until she lost her job after saving Matteo’s daughter Valentina’s life. With a grateful heart Matteo, offers her a job caring for Valentina. (Can we see where this is going?! ❤️❤️🔥🔥)

Speaking of Valentina, she is the “mini-me” of her aunt Nora! Watch out world, “two Nora’s” … holy heaven! I don’t think Havenport can handle these two forces of nature! Daphne Elliott always finds a way of making children characters funny, smart and interesting. Making them an important part of the story. Valentina is exactly that. I have to say Valentina is one of my favourite characters. I would love to see Daphne write a book about an older Valentina. Now that would be a great story indeed. (Hint, Hint Daphne)

The chemistry between Eliza and Matteo is off the charts. Even though Eliza is dealing with ADHD herself, she is willing to jump in and see where a relationship with Matteo goes. Matteo wants to as well. However, because of the age difference, being a control freak and trying to be the best dad ever, he holds back and plays it safe. Until, “the dance” 😉and “the light house” 🔥 well, a man can only has so much self control!

One thing I love about Daphne Elliott’s books is she ALWAYS knows how to write incredible supporting characters. In The Rossi Family Series, she once again brings together a strong and supportive group of women. Gina, Juniper, Meadow and Eliza make up the new “Coven.” Let me tell you, their conversations and banter are so damn funny! But, what’s even better is how they are always there to support one another.

I’m not normally a fan of age-gap stories. Yet, I couldn’t help but love the story between Eliza and Matteo. The ups and downs, the holy crap momments and of course the hot steamy scenes kept me wanting more. Another great read by Daphne Elliott!

*** I received an advance copy of this book. I am leaving an honest review.

Title: Holding You (Rossi Family Book 2)
Author: Daphne Elliot
Hero/Heroine: Matteo & Eliza
Trope: Age Gap/Single Dad/Grumpy X Sunshine

TW/CW: Mention of chronic illness, mention of alcoholism

THE GOOD 😀

You know when you think an author can’t get any better, and then they keep releasing books that you devour in less than a day? This, folks, is what Daphne Elliot insists on doing with each release, and then I end up pissed at myself for reading her books so quickly. It’s like a vicious cycle.
Matteo, single dad and known control freak, has every part of his life mapped out. He doesn’t have time for anything other than his adorable daughter Valentina and his restaurant. So when he runs into Eliza during one of the most frightening times in his life, he’s immediately intrigued. Confident, smart and with a sunshine personality, she’s his exact opposite.
Let me just say it now; Matteo and Eliza were two of my favourite characters I’ve read. So completely different but they complimented each other in the best way. Eliza brought out a lighter side of Matteo, whilst Matteo, in a way, made Eliza realise what she deserved from a partner. There were points where I wanted to do some sort of Krav Maga move on Matteo’s junk for being an utter dumbass, however Eliza, fierce and fabulous, didn’t stand for any of his crap, and I adored this about her. As well as the central relationship between Matteo and Eliza, I loved how the Rossi clan swooped in to help, even though Matteo stubbornly wouldn’t ever ask for it. Also, Eliza’s friends were incredible; supportive and able to bring Eliza out of a funk when needed, these ladies were a pillar of strength for our heroine.
Team all of the above with a sassy eight year old who knew her own mind and wasn’t afraid to speak it, Holding You was an absolute joy from beginning to end. I’m sad. Someone send provisions… or a hot Italian man to make me all the pasta (I’m looking at you Matteo you lump of grumpy gorgeousness).

THE BAD ☹️

Not. A. Single. Thing.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.

Some of my favorite romance tropes are Single parent and age gap. This book has both of those and let me tell you it did not disappoint!

Eliza is such a strong character. She is fun, outgoing and extremely strong willed. She is outspoken and will always stand up for what she believes it right even against the ER doctor at the hospital where she works as a nurse.

Mateo is a single dad to the adorable Valentina who will absolutely steal your heart! He owns a restaurant and between that and raising his daughter he does not allow himself time for any type of relationship. Valentina has Asthma and ends up in the ER one night with Eliza as her nurse. Mateo’s daughter is almost given a medication that she is allergic to and Eliza goes up against the Doctor to stop it. When Mateo finds out later that she was placed on unpaid leave due to saving his daughter he offers her a job to help with Valentina while their regular sitter is off for the summer.

Mateo and Eliza have an instant connection but there are a lot of hurdles that keep them a relationship. Mateo is stubborn and so afraid of failing his daughter that he keeps himself back. He is also dealing with the fear of his Ex wanting to come back into Valentina’s life. Eliza struggles with ADHD and has to do things to help her navigate her daily life with it as an adult. She is embarrassed about how Mateo will view her because of it but it ends up being a way to connect to Valentina when she is feeling down about her struggles with Asthma. It was such a tender moment. The relationship between Valentina and Eliza is so sweet and I love that even Valentina could read the unspoken feelings her dad had for Eliza.

The chemistry between Mateo and Eliza is Amazing and I will always think of this book when I see a lifeguard tower. When you read the book you will know what I mean 🔥🔥🔥

I loved this book and cannot wait for the next one in the series. Thank you Daphne Elliot for the ARC of this book.

description

This isn't my first Daphne Elliot rodeo, but I have to say I was expecting a little bit more. I like a good grump, specially if he's a single father. And I also love age gap in the books I read. However, the execution, compared to the other books by the same author, felt off.

Matteo is a 40yo man that raises his child, Valentina, by himself. He's very responsible and carries the world on his shoulders because he's too proud to ask for help. Eliza is a nurse who hates the hospital she works in because of a doctor who clearly doesn't care about his patients. After defending the interests of Valentina when she ended up in the ER, Eliza needs help to find another job while she's on unpaid leave. Matteo, extremely grateful for Eliza's dedication, hires her as a nanny for his daughter.

The chemistry around them is scorching hot, however the bad boy Matteo sometimes acted like a teenager. The way he mistreated Eliza by simply ignoring her because he didn't want to deal with his own feeling bothered me too much throughout the book, specially because he did it more than once. Most of the times, I felt like Eliza would be better off without him, and that's not what I want to feel when I'm reading romance.

Other than that, Valentina is adorable. Eliza rocks! She didn't accept the little Matteo was offering and made him raise the bar. I just love a badass FMC. Also, It was amazing to see Nora and Luke once more. They know how to put Matteo on his place and Matteo's twin brother, Gio, was the highlight of the story for me. Can't wait to read about him in the next book.

Holding You is the second book in the Rossi Family and part of the colorful Havenport series. The story begins with a father taking his daughter to the emergency room after an episode of asthma. After the girl is examined by an egocentric doctor, he prescribes the wrong medicine. The nurse confronts him and loses her job. The father, feeling guilty about what happened, hires the nurse to babysit his daughter until she finds a new job. It is then that the fun begins.

Matteo is a handsome 41-year-old, hardworking, single dad. He is trying to juggle his life as a parent and care for his daughter's sickness, dealing with his ex, and managing his restaurant. He has a protective personality, and he always does everything himself, never asking for help when he needs it, turning him not into a grumpy man, but whiny most of the time. There’s no room for love in his life, at least he thinks so until he falls head over heels for 29-year-old Eliza, who is working as his daughter’s babysitter. She is a skilled nurse, gorgeous and impulsive, full of life and charm.

Their relationship is full of difficulties and trials, mostly because of Matteo's life issues and more than busy days, which takes its toll on Eliza, who tries hard to deal with her ADHD. Their love affair is spicy and full of dirty talk, granting the reader with a lot of steamy and swooning moments.

Matteo’s daughter, Valentina, is an intense and sassy little girl who steals the scene sometimes, turning the story sweet. I can’t forget to mention the second characters. They are interesting and bright, bringing so much life to the small town of Havenport. I had a nice time reading the book, and if you like small town romance, this book is for you!

💥ARC Review💥

*small town romance ✅
*age gap ✅
*grumpy hot alpha male/ strong- sunshine female lead  ✅

This book takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. There's frustration, laughs, the lighthearted moments, the spicy and everything in between. I was a little weary at the very beginning when we start off with the psychic but I pushed through my initial reaction and even the frustrations I found with Matteo. He's def a stubborn "grumpy man-bear". But this a book I would recommend giving a chance.

You've got Matteo. I mean he's grumpy that's clear as day but that along with the fact that this man is a single "perfect" dad, he cooks, cleans, handles his business and is all around the total package (even when he doesn't think so!) makes him even hotter! 🔥 although this man brings you on a rollercoaster ride.

Then you've got Eliza. A heart of gold. Not afraid to stand of for what she believes. So strong. So compassionate and understanding. I mean this woman literally looses her job as a nurse when she goes up against the doctor who prescribes Matteo's daughter the wrong medicine.

You have these two imperfect characters that have their own personal struggles, but together their chemistry is 🔥. It's not an easy ride to get them to their happily ever after,  but I loved their growth as individuals and together. The bond between Eliza and Matteo's daughter Valentina is so freaking heart warming! And Valentina is just the sweetest little girl!

I give this book a solid 4½! I really enjoyed it! It is def worth a read!

3 stars. Better than the last book but that also isn’t saying much.

Things I Liked:
-single dad trope
-age gap romance (I shockingly liked it in this book when it is usually a huge no go for me in books)
-Eliza standing up for her patients even though she knew she would be getting in trouble (her dedication to her job)
-that Eliza found a new job with Maggie and didn’t go back to her toxic workplace
-the bond between Eliza and Val

Things I Didn’t Like:
-Val being written as older than her actual age (what kind of 7/8 year old is that responsible and insightful? They are usually off in their own world)
-the entire Mandy storyline. It had potential to make things interesting but nothing ever came from it and the author only really told us about it instead of showing us
-how the Rossi’s are a family of 6 children yet we only see 3 of them, know of the other one, while the last two are mysteries
-Matteo’s whole “I can’t give her what she wants, she deserves better” while not trying to give her anything better (he insisted on hiding their relationship)

Things I Would’ve Liked To See:
-an epilogue further into the future (a proposal, a wedding, or another baby)
-more of Matteo bonding with Gio and Nora (Nora especially)
-seeing more of Matteo’s work/career instead of only hearing about it (again, I’ve noticed this without likes to tell us what happened instead of actually writing it)
-seeing/learning about Eliza’s parents
-information on Eliza and Matteo’s pasts (past relationships, traumas, childhood, etc.)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Can I just move to Havenport and be a part of the Rossi family? Just asking …

This book was so much fun to read.

Matteo is such a grumpy guy, but that’s part of his charm I guess. He is a hot, sexy but also a caring man. His daughter is his life and world.

Because his daughter - Valentina - has asthma, his focus is always on her. He forgets how to live his life as he thinks he doesn’t have time for love and relationship.

Until he meets Eliza.
She is a 29 years old nurse who struggles with ADHD. So she understands how Val feels sometimes. Their relationship is just beautiful. She helps Val to see that nothing is wrong with her, and having something what others might not have just makes her more special.
You will definitely fall in love with the little girl. She is an 8-year old with a grownup’s mouth 😄 She is a Rossi, after all.

One dance changes everything between Eliza and Matteo.
Their relationship quickly turns into a sexual one, and not to mention, a secret affair. She is okay with it first, until she realises she deserves more.
During at argument, he treats her pretty badly, but he does everything to make it right, and get Eliza back.

Will he be able to do that? Will he see that he deserves love and that he can live a balanced life with help from his family?

Make sure you get the bonus epilogue too if you want to swoon more 🥰

Thank you for another great book Daphne❣️
I can’t wait to read Gio and Sam’s story.

4 - 4.25 Stars!

Having read Resisting You i couldn't wait for more! From the moment this second book was announced i started looking forward to it right away! I picked it up as soon as i could and got right back into The Rossi Family world! I so enjoyed this story!

Eliza and Matteo's journey pulled me in from the get go! When Eliza stands up for Matteo's daughter at the ER, she's put on leave. Matteo decides to hire her as his daughter's babysitter. As the attraction grows between Eliza and Matteo, i couldn't wait to see how everything would go for them.

I was so glad that i got to jump into both of their minds and dig deeper. These two characters were very relatable. I admired Eliza's determination. The love Matteo had for his daughter, Valentina got me right in the heart! I loved that i went through many emotions throughout reading with both Matteo and Eliza! These two had such good chemistry!

I really enjoyed the grumpy/sunshine and age gap aspects of this story! It was so awesome being back in this world again!

With Holding You, Ms.Elliot has created a great read with feels! I can't wait for more from her! Definitely check The Rossi Family books out!

Matteo Rossi is a 40 something single dad and restaurant owner who doesn’t have time for himself. Eliza is an ER nurse in her late twenties tired of casual and trying to find her place in the world. Matteo’s daughter, Valentina, is a bright and smart 8yo that suffers asma and after a bad episode Matteo takes her to the ER and there they meet Eliza. There’s attraction and eventually they figure out their connection goes beyond the lust, there’s only one issue Matteo is scared to make time for himself to enjoy life… and Eliza is a super strong heroine who won’t take sloppy seconds. YAS Queen!
I’ll be honest, I loved this book! I kept messaging Daphne telling her how much I was laughing, how accurate she described New England in the last tail of winter… it goes on forever 😅 and I know I truly loved this book because the characters made me feel what they were feeling at the moment. I was so upset at how Matteo behaved, Eliza compromised many things to be with him, yet he kept backpedaling and misleading her. Until enough was enough and it took some major groveling on his part to get to their HEA. These two are perfect together, the spice was so spicy! Loved, loved, loved it!

This small town age gap romance was dripping with anguish, crackling with electricity, and bubbling with hope.

4.5/5 Stars.

Eliza’s no-nonsense attitude and willingness to stand up for what’s right, even when it costs her, are admirable qualities that really made me root for her. The way she waltzes around in chaotic outfits and calls out her boss (and also sometimes Matteo) are hilarious and real. I loved her.

Matteo’s need to keep things under control and inability to do so are just perfect parent life representation, I think. And Valentina definitely gives the man a run for his money. I think she was my favourite character in the whole book. I’m 100% behind whatever Val says and when you get to the end, you will know why.

While there were some times I felt like the conflict was self-inflicted a little too much, I really enjoyed this book overall. I would definitely recommend you pick this one up if you like age gap, single dad / babysitter, or grumpy sunshine romances. Or if you want to watch Val steal the show from everyone. Either way, go read this book! You won’t regret it.

I received an advance copy of this title and am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
