QOAD: Have you read any books by Swami Mukundananda yet ?
The Power of thoughts as the title hints is the book that is based on one's thoughts. A blend of spirituality and science along with philosophy, it speaks about everything related to mind and the concept of thinking. Te book begins with the chapter The Creation of Thoughts which differentiates the brain and mind. The author further goes on to explain how creative thinking can elevate one's present for a better tomorrow.
The meditation techniques that Swamiji has proposed is very helpful which should be adopted and practiced by everyone. I personally found it relaxing. The 3 step system of Dilution, Substitution and Sublimation is interesting. Various quotes and verses from religious texts along with their meanings are discussed.
Though the language is simple I suggest one to read it slowly. The depth at which the book has been written has a deep impact on the readers.Overall an impactful read that Enlightens and Empowers one to lead a positive life.
As usual a supreme nector of thought provoking book directing on how to manage thoughts. My favorite chapter was on Sakshi Bhav and was personally struggling with how to manage and got answers in this book.
Meditation techniques provided in second half are simply divine and has to be practiced for life time.
This book has to be read and contemplated number of times to truly understand the meaning behind the explanation.p
A must read for those who practice and have faith I in spirituality.
“Closed in a room, my imagination becomes the universe, and the rest of the world is missing out”.
The aspect of perspective remains to be the most vital part of our existence as it steers the course of our lives. In addition to it, the thought process of an individual catalyzes the same, however as it is well known that our mind is either our greatest friend or our sworn enemy and this implies suffering induced by thinking and this is what the book broadly speaks of. The 280 pages long the book at hand has been divided into 14 chapters and each of them has been further divided into certain sub-sections with the ultimate objective of substantiating what is poignant. The first chapter of the book has been titled “Let us think about thoughts” and it begins by stating the ever-present mysteries of the world we live in as much is obscured by unseen energies and vibrations which surround us and further its interplay with thought aspects has been shown in the form of a story and gravity of the same is shown via its effect on one’s surroundings and environment as well and when the author makes the reader aware of the fact that he who conquers his mind, conquers the world, the tone of the book is fairly well set for the readers. Further, the second chapter of the book is titled “watch your thoughts” which shows how important it is to have control over our thoughts and how difficult it is as we do not have any vested control over them. As the chapters go further, each of them tends to act as an extension of the previous chapter which keeps the reader aware of the underlying paradigm of the book and adds to the attention span of the readers as well.
The writing style of the book has been kept simple and very easy to comprehend. Additionally, the book is easily reflective of the inclusive aspect of it and can be easily termed as contemporaneous as well. On the whole, the stated aspects of the book make it a must-read for anyone willing to gain some control over one’s thoughts as it would entail conquering the world.
A good friend of mine, an Indian man, loaned me this book. Although I have traveled the world, I rarely read anything by non-Western authors, and I almost never read self-help books. In general, I am an optimist, and I’m usually not one to think negatively, but I can be impatient with those close to me and sometimes disrespectful. So, for me, Chapter 2 “Watch your Thoughts,” was insightful, and got me thinking. It’s easy to let our minds run on autopilot so that we respond to people in habitual ways. But, “We are not obliged to accept the emotions that our mind presents to us. No matter what the external circumstances, we have the freedom to choose our response.” Force oneself to think positive thoughts when angry, for example. I haven’t tried this approach to managing my emotions, but I intend to. I am a disciplined person usually able to do the activities I decide to do, but I had never viewed discipline as an enabler of freedom until I read Chapter 4 on disciplining your thoughts. Author Mukundananda has done more than study religious Asian literature. He has also read the latest neuroscience, and he references articles liberally with footnotes at the bottom of many pages. The discussion on addiction is especially good. I also like his Indian perspective, highlighted by many stories. I especially enjoyed his description of how pet monkeys are captured, using a bottle filled with leaves and peanuts. The second half of the book was less useful, maybe because I am an engineer and already know how to think, and I’m a secular Jew not particularly interested in divine thinking.

✅Where do we begin this process of change❓
✅What resources do we require for transforming ourselves❓
✅Where can we find them❓
✅And how much will those life and assets cost us❓
If you can relate with any question mentioned above. Then this is the right choice for you. It's a very soulful read so take your time when you read it 🌼
In this book, simplicity stands out. Flowery language and serious thoughts could look like merit to some, but simplicity rules the roost perennially. My Bhagavad Gita teacher often says, 'If you can't explain it simply enough, you have not understood it well enough.' 'The Power of Thoughts' simplifies our 'thinking about thoughts' step by step, bit by bit, one morsel at a time.
We all know stories have no expiry date. They amuse. They help stay a concept in your head. You become a character in them. Sometimes you smile with them and know where exactly a shoe bites a few other times. Stories in the book drive the point home - straight and clear.
This is a book about thoughts. Thousands of them crisscross our heads all the time. A handful of them are positive and a bagful negative. What are negative thoughts, if not ghosts, inside us and what are our actions shooting out of them, if not the apparitions outside us? Fear and anxiety are the first cousins of negative thoughts. So how to keep these guys away? Read the chapter 'The Problem of Negative Thoughts'. Here's a quote, 'They (negative thoughts) occur while perceiving a thing as being other than what it really is.'
To manage my outside self, I need to work on my inner self is my takeaway from the book.

'The Power of thoughts' by Swami Mukundananda is a self help book written by spiritual leader himself who is known worldwide as a teacher of spirituality, yoga and meditation. The flow of the book is well paced which keeps the readers hooked till the end.
Overall, a helpful guide.
Rating - 5/5
I recommend this book to all if you want to control your life by controlling your mind.
If we focus on transforming our thoughts instead, incredible results will accrue from a fraction of the efforts. Since all aspects of our life are so strongly linked to our thoughts, we have much to gain by deepening our understanding of them.
Thoughts! We all find ourselves caught in this and struggle to handle these at some point of time.
Thoughts become our actions, our actions create our destiny. This is so true whenever we think about this.
𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔 has been written around this dilemma of our lives. The book explains the concept of thoughts, how negative thoughts generates and how we can remove those. Also, much more!
This is my first book from the author and I was glued with the wisdom this book offers. The incidents used as an example after every theory is something which made it more relatable. The excerpts (Sholka) used from the Gita is really commendable along with the meaning.
Loved the language and how every line of the elucidates the concept the book through out is equally captivating.
When I had started reading this book, I could not stop myself to complete this book, since it has such amazing offerings which everyone struggles in their lives.
A complete five star read and must read and recommended. I would recommend this book to everyone to read this.
Since every aspect of our life experiences is so strongly linked to the quality of our thoughts, it becomes necessary to comprehend them in greater depth.
The book is divided into two parts. In the first half, Swami Ji has dealt with thoughts that harm us and techniques for eradicating or sublimating them. In the second half, he has explained strategies to unleash our thinking to live life to the fullest.
He says that the thoughts are produced by our mind, not us. The mind and brain are separate. The book also includes several detailed meditation techniques.
The book is essentially quite informative and insightful. Even though it's easy to read, it's packed with so much information that I had to take it slow and I'll definitely re-read it so it's not going anywhere from my table anytime soon.
If not evident from the cover or the author's name (I do not think that's possible though), the book connects self-help genre with spirituality. So the book isn't for everyone but I'm sure everyone will learn a thing or two about themselves through this book.
Another masterpiece by Swami ji. In very simple words he describes the science and philosophy of thought creation in our minds and illustrates how we can monitor our thoughts to distance ourselves from negative ones and harness the positive/ constructive ones to purify our mind. The book incremental leads to ways on how spiritual practice can purify the mind to lead us to develop divine thoughts that give us true happiness instead material thoughts that give us ephemeral joy. This book serves a guide manual for self introspection of our thoughts and also provides us a general idea of how human mind can be flawed in thinking being material realm.
One of the best books I've read on spirituality so far. Reading this book consciously is itself equivalent to doing meditation for the length of this book. Just by reading this book and even before practicing any of the methods mentioned in the book, I already feel blissful by the way how this book has addressed most of my questions with utter simplicity and had my head feel lighter. I now have clearer directions to move on a guided path to attain what truly matters. Profound regards for Swami Ji 🙏🙏
The Power of Thoughts is very powerful book written by Swami Mukudanada, a Vedic scholar, spiritual leader, and bestselling author. In this book, Swami teaches us the true importance that thoughts have, specific techniques you can use to maximize your thoughts, and ways to use the thinking procecss to live a more fufilling life. This book is very well written, and serves as an effective guide on mind management. One thing I really liked about this book is that it perfectly blends modern science, religous/spiritual thinking, and plenty of concrete examples. I was very happy to read this book and will continue to go back to it in the future.
I liked this. It was a light read and there were definitely some things about our thinking patterns that I learnt about while reading this - I did feel some bits and bops here and there were a little too religious for me to connect with. But I recognise that this is very much in alignment with what swamiji teaches so it wasn’t anything that unexpected as I flipped the pages. 7/10 bookmarked some lines of wisdom that I’ll probably like to revisit as the years pass
Extremely for Anyone Interested in Improving Their life
