This book was a great way of showing Marcy's entries, and it made me connect to her as a character compared to the show. I feel so glad that I read this book. Not only as a fan of Amphibia but also how much I really connected to Marcy as a character. It feels so satisfying and heartwarming to get insight into this character and a bit more lore on Amphibia, too. If you like or love the show, then I highly recommend reading this book when you can!
I’m really glad that The Core did not write anything, but even without that I definitely cried. I love this show so much and I’m glad the journal was able to go into further depth of some character-emotional elements, and the new adventures were amazing. Mostly glad it gave me a way to finally know which one is Ally and which is Jess lol
Sweet and fun accompaniment to the story of Amphibia-- definitely best read after completing the entire show. My standard for fake journals has been set high by Dragonology and the Spiderwick Field-guide, so in that respect I felt this could have been leagues better. I got bored of overused textual motifs (like circling, underlining, and doodles) and found myself longing for more variety. Some highlights though were the flip book and the rune translation puzzles! The final sections could have added more meat to the show's rushed ending but didn't deliver. But I will always love Marcy so I can't go lower than three.
I find it difficult to give this book anything less than 5 stars. As someone who enjoys media, but also tends to notice certain levels of plot hole and lack of particular threads of development, this book caught me by surprise in the way that it gave me everything that I was looking for.
Throughout the series, we got Anne’s point of view, naturally, so we knew what was happening with her; and on the flipside we found out a lot about what was happening with Sasha – being that she was in toad jail for a huge chunk of her early time in Amphibia – but there was a noticeable gap in what was going on in Marcy’s life at the same time.
Going back to not only detail Marcy’s thoughts and feelings during the early days of her presence in Amphibia, but also showing her growth in Newtopia, and her kindling friendship with King Andrias, and also showcasing how she integrated herself into the Amphibian way of life was so refreshing, and really gave us a greater snapshot of who Marcy was as a person. I also thoroughly enjoyed that the journal focused on the place (Amphibia) and not solely on Marcy’s feelings and thoughts in a more general sense. And even included a cipher to decode several Newtopian rune pages!
It was equally as heart wrenching when the cadence and writing style changed once the journal came under Anne’s possession after the events of the show. I also liked that a point was made to give us a greater understanding of where Anne’s head was at, too, and gave us a greater snapshot of her thoughts and feelings as the plotlines developed once the secrets of the music box were revealed.
All in all, I would highly recommend this as a read for anyone that enjoys/enjoyed Amphibia. A word of caution, however, as the book does cover the entire series from beginning to end, so if you would rather avoid being spoiled, I’d recommend finishing that first and then looping around and picking this up.
Going to drift off and talk about a slightly different thing for a moment to explain why I Enjoyed this work so much.
There is a difference between seeing a story as the actors(characters) and the universe as a Place. Star Trek Picard is viewing Star Trek as actors, so they matter most and finding X character or Y actor is more important than having a solid in-universe reason for them to be there. Star Trek Lower Decks treats Star Trek as a place and we just see what it would be like to exist in a universe where once every week something bizarre just happens, what happened the following month after B story and so on.
I prefer the place approach, especially on additional material. This book takes us through some of the places that Marcy saw before linking back up with Anne, letting us see a slightly larger Amphibia, touching on the emotions behind the actions.
The only flag is that this book covers the whole series, so watch that first before reading this. The Journal 3 from gravity falls that inspired this book is one my son has enjoyed, but I think he is a little beyond this one. But I have a daughter who was reading this with much enjoyment.
When I finished watching Amphibia last spring, I cried so much about Anne, Sasha, and Marcy's seperation, as well as a thousand other things related to the show. But this book really helped bring closure about that, along with so much joy and emotions. It's was so cool to read about the behind-the-scenes adventures that Marcy and Anne had. I look forward to finding out what Terri was calling about! Oh and one more thing- while watching the show, I honestly never truly shipped Sashannarcy. The fanarts, fanfics, and the ship in theory were great, but it just didn't seem like there was enough evidence in the show to prove romantic feelings. But after reading Marcy's Journal, aka the Gayest Book Ever, I'm proud to call myself a Sashannarcy shipper.

I read it all in one go, it's not a long read, but longer than I thought.
Marcy's journal throughout the series, we see everything she's been through. We see snippets of past entries, and a code to translate more things about the box.
We see King Andrias manipulate her in real time throughout her journal, her inability to notice other's feelings or downright ignoring when things get stressy because she realizes something is wrong but wants to live this fantasy.
We see her grow over the course of the journal, even when some of it happens outside of the journal.
The bit where Anne took over the journal, and was journaling her time on earth, got to me. How they all struggled with their friendships and perceptions of each other.
The bit at the end, that hints they might not be as seperated for good from Amphibia as they thought.
I'm in tears as I write this.

If you love amphibia then you'll love this book. Reading this made me remember how much I loved the show. It's just a silly little cartoon about 3 girls stuck in an Amphibian world tapi it's so funny and good (found family juga! my fav trope). The ending of the book also made me realize how much my life has changed ever since the show finished 3 years ago, time flies... Which is a big theme of both the show and book actually. How change can be a good thing and being apart from your loved ones doesn't make you love them any less since you all will come back stronger than ever (ini relatable bgt sih since I'm an adult now).
Also my 2 copies of this book are signed by the creator hihi.
I loved reading its book 1 because of the lore and 2 because I watched the show and I wanted more. Marcy was my favorite character and in my opinion didn't get enough screen time, (Darcy doesn't count in my opinion that's more of the Cores screen time than Marcy's) so this kind of filled that void now I want this to be fully animated, but eh what can ya do.
Woke up to amphibia, where I fell down a bunch of stairs. Broke my leg but luckily I was treated with full care, and I became a loyal ranger! Fought an evil cult!
I initially liked this a lot-still loving Amphibia and seeing how The Owl House took heavy influence from it. This...isn't quite that ultimate lore guide that should happen. Too much recycled materiel from the show's episodes themselves, not enough about Newtopia(and Marcy would be fixated on the city since she loves it), and some unfortunate implications like Anne victim blaming herself for Sasha's evil actions, Sasha's evil blamed on divorce anxiety, and no indication Anne was mourning Marcy when she likely would have.
Much like Gravity Falls Journal #3, provides a deep dive into the lore of the series answering burning questions, concepts, and characters that the show didn't have room to explore.
