The Titans #1

Gods of City Glory

Rate this book
“I live with three sex gods, Happy, Bashful, and Grumpy. If I’m not careful, I’ll develop feelings for them, and I need to remain platonic if I want to stay living here.”

Ava Baros has recently graduated from art school in Europe. She returns to New York to pursue her dream job as a fashion designer but has a short time frame to find work and a place to live; otherwise, her father will summon her back to Greece.

She lands a job that she’s partially happy with but finding a place to live in Manhattan is brutal.

As a last resort, she answers an ad for a flatmate but remains skeptical about sharing with three guys. Despite her dubious presumptions, she is surprised to see the room is in a luxury apartment shared with three men who are dangerously sexy, handsome, and powerful.

There is constant amorous and personality antagonism between the four roommates. Ava is fighting temptation and knows getting romantically involved with these men may cause multiple dilemmas with serious complications.

Funny, Steamy, Hot. It’s a story with a feel-good factor about a girl, three guys, a butterfly tattoo, and a Manhattan apartment.

About The Titans Series:
The Titan Series is a group of reverse harem contemporary romance novels. Each book in the series introduces a different story about Ava’s adventures and life journey with her three male roommates. The books are written to be read as a standalone with a HEA chapter ending. However, the epilogues of each book in the series act as the introduction to the next book and will end on a cliffhanger.

GODS of City Glory is a full-length reverse-harem contemporary romance novel, the first in The Titans Series.

Trigger Alert: This is a hot & steamy contemporary romantic comedy that follows the life of four people as they meet, fall in love, overcome obstacles that keep them apart, defy the odds, and live happily ever after. There is no central armageddon plot, world-building theme, or superheroes, but if that's what you're after, this book is not for you.

New Yorker, globetrotter, author, designer — and unapologetic storyteller of steamy emotional journeys.

Marian Andrew was raised in the city that never sleeps, polished by a British education, and now lives her European dream in Germany alongside her incredibly supportive husband, amazing son, and two mischievous feline sidekicks.

After two decades in the fashion world — jet-setting between New York, London, and the Far East, chasing inspiration across the globe — Marian traded couture for characters. Today, she channels her creative fire into writing stories that swerve between dirty and devastating, filthy and heartfelt. She also designs all her own book covers, because frankly, no one else can get the vibe just right.

A specialist in digital design and fluent in three languages, Marian grew up with a multicultural heartbeat that fuels her obsession with messy, beautiful human emotions, sharp banter, dangerous chemistry, and the kind of happily-ever-afters you have to fight for.

When she’s not setting her keyboard on fire, she’s ballroom dancing, binge-reading romance novels, or testing celebrity chef recipes (and occasionally setting off the smoke alarm).

I'm sorry, but this book just got worse and worse as I kept reading. I eventually DNF at 80%.
This book has 0 plot. Which I hardly ever say about a book, because I'm very good at finding a plot when others say there isn't one. But not here. This book is working towards nothing. It's just a woman fantasizing about her roommates and eventually boning them. That's literally all there is to the story.
Now if it had been well written with awesome spicy scenes, I would've probably still enjoyed it. That wasn't the case here though. I don't think this book had a lot of editing done. The writing style is very bad. It's more like fanfiction instead of an actual professional book. The sexy scenes also weren't that great, and did nothing for me.

So about the characters. The woman is described as very curvy, which made me really excited for the book, because I love it when FMC's aren't all tiny waists and 0% bodyfat. However, eventually she mentiones she's a size 6.. So still very skinny. That was a disappointment. How about we double the size when repeatedly calling your FMC curvy.
She's also a gigantic hypocrite. Getting angry at one of the guys for moving on to another woman, after our fmc rejects him, even though she freaking slept with someone else first. Smh.

Also, the characters put no effort in getting to know each other, where they came from, how their family is, stuff like that. However, they do manage to say I love you, within weeks of knowing each other.

One thing that annoyed the hell out of me as well is that one of the guys, only gets a couple of pov chapters in the book. But when he gets them, the writer then recaps everything that has happened since his last chapter, from his pov. It's super repetitive and a waste of pages.

As you can see, this book frustrated the hell out of me. I don't often write reviews this long, but I just want others to have all the info before they decide to read this book. It's a waste of time imo.

Contemporary roommates RH, fast burn with group scenes, multi POV. I like the roommates dynamic and also the fact each guy has their own backstory which well no doubt see back in next books. Large portion of the book is dedicated to describing how each is lusting and later loving after the FMC and vice versa. The FMC's ex and work life could have taken a larger chunk of the story. Hopefully, next books there will be a little more plot.

2.5 stars... Ok, but desperately needs a thorough editor

Good palette cleanser read, but lacking in any actual plot.

The first part of this book lead me to believe that the FMC's career or her ex would be more of a plot point in this story aside from her relationship with her 3 male roommates. We had some interesting points going with bitchy co-workers and the FMC expressing her design opinions to the big boss and him asking her to essentially take over a major project... but then that part just kind of gets forgotten and we don't learn anything else about her job for the rest of this book. Maybe that part picks up in book 2? I'm not sure.

Not that anyone asked me, but I do have (what I think) is some constructive criticism for the author

🔹 This book really needs a good editor. While it is mostly written in 1st person, past tense, there are a LOT of instances of present tense being used and mixed in leaving the story to feel a little clunky and awkward to the reader. There were also a couple times where names were misused (the FMC is with Carter but in her head she says Oscar) or misspelled. Nothing another go-around with the editor wouldn't catch, but the past-tense vs present-tense thing needs a fine-toothed comb for SURE.

🔹 At times this book contained linked footnotes. This was helpful when one of the MMCs was speaking in Portuguese to the FMC. But towards the beginning there was a call out for the use of the word "check" and the footnote explains that this is how Americans spell it vs the British spelling of "cheque". Now - to me - this establishes that the writer wants this book to read as American (especially considering it is located in NYC)... however she continues to use many British/European terms (including later on the word "cheque" spelled the British way on pg 116) such as "snogging", "sleeveless vest", "motorbike" (IMO anyone who owns a Harley in the US would likely gag at calling it a "motorbike" instead of simply "bike" or "motorcycle"). I honestly think with the FMC's background of traveling Europe for 4 years and attending college in London, I wouldn't have been surprised at her picking up some European slang or words, but to establish at the beginning that this is the way the Americans spell it made it stand out more later in the book that these are not American words or phrasing.

🔹 I'd honestly suggest having a man read the male POV chapters and adjusting some of the wording. It felt very much like a woman writing a man, if that makes sense. Do men really refer to their friends in their heads as "my bros"? Maybe they do. I'm not a man. But it seemed weird to me.

🔹 Do people honestly call each other MOFO still? I know my friends and I use it now and then in a sarcastic or ironic way, but these characters use it quite a lot. Also weird.

I will be reading book 2, but honestly, without that epilogue, I would have been happy to be done with this story. Book 2 is more out of slight curiosity rather than any kind of burning need to see what happens next.

Closing note: I can appreciate that it is not easy for authors to write entire books and put themselves out there by publishing their work and opening themselves up for criticism. I hope that my comments are taken as they were intended: to be helpful and not hurtful to the author.

My new favourite trope may just be roommates to lovers after this book!

Marian writes an amazing rh novel! I know that but I was beyond amazed with this book, previously I have only read her dark romance rh and was curious as to how this book/series would compare but omg she kills any kind of romance novel hands down!

I love how low angst and fun this read was, we get to meet the fmc and the guys right off the bat, each guy in the rh was complex and we get to see their personalities through out this read, the fmc is a strong character and she knows what she wants which is something I enjoy in my MCs. Lots of chemistry, tension and pinning between all these characters that will literally give you a toothache it’s so sweet!

The plot is what really kept me reading, I like how the mc is struggling to find a house only to stumble upon these three men she doesn’t really want to live with at first, we also get to see her career start taking off and her fighting to stay in NY even though her family wants her back home, we see one of the men not fully on board with her moving in until he of course changes his mind.

Lots of chemistry and steamy scenes which get better and better the more you read, I’m really excited that this a series and I get to see more of these characters however we got a hfn ending at the end of this book which i really enjoyed. I will definitely now be picking up book two and making my ways through this series.

I have mixed feelings about this series so far.

First concern: author immediately fetishizes male on male action. Yes, most of us are fans of mm content, but the author goes on to describe it as a kink for the FMC.

Second concern: I’m not sure the author actually knows what a person of color is. There’s a particular scene where the FMC’s work colleague is being inherently racist, and asks the FMC if one of the men is “at least” a POC. The FMC doesn’t answer, but also doesn’t insinuate in the narration that he is. (Spoiler alert: he is)

Overall, I found Ava a bit difficult as a person. There are a couple of scenes where she legitimately acts like an entitled brat.

Additionally, the writing style is a bit weird with how it flows. It’s pretty poor in nature, and feels like something I would read on Wattpad.

There’s a lot of internal monologue and the first 10% of the book is basically the author telling us Ava’s background rather than having it leak throughout the book. 🙃

I didn’t care for Ben and felt like he was an entitled douche with how he thought of Ava, but I did like Oscar and Carter. Carter was probably my favorite.

Anywho, I give it a 🌶️🌶️🌶️/5 for spice since spice is almost immediate.

I’ll continue the series because I’m invested, but I do hope the author’s writing improves as we go.

If you’re in need of a palette cleanser, put this one on the list. This was a new author for me, but i saw the description of it and put it on my watch list for when it came out. I snapped it up and fit it in between some ARC reads. And let me tell you- it was worth it and fit the bill. We get a strong H, fresh out of fashion school trying to make her way back in her home town. She has a group of best girl friends, but is desperate need of a place to live. With slim pickings, she applies to an apartment share with 3 guys. There’s immediate attraction, but try to keep each other at arms length due to awkward roommate stuff. An EX boyfriend comes into play, but in the end (of this book 1 at least) there’s a happily ever after for now. The men are all a bit different, come from different backgrounds- there is still things to uncover about them. They are as delicious as you would want to read! Unfortunately, I’ve been reading a few books with some awkward dialogue- and this one flowed so much nicer- it was what I needed!! I give the book a solid 4.5 stars and will look forward to the next.

Some previously written reviews of this book mention there is no real plot involved in the storyline, but in my opinion the plot is just “life”. Everyday life, the way we all live it, and the people we meet, the things we do, the love we find (and lose), … It doesn’t create the most gripping storyline, but it does create a more realistic why choose storyline with three best friends who meet the one for them.

There is a bit of MM involved in this why choose storyline, but in this first book it’s mostly focussed on what Ava likes and how they can “entertain” her. I’m not sure it will stay that way, but it’s nice to see all relationships develop slowly (or slow-ish, since the burn level is more medium burn).

You can choose whether you want to read this book as a standalone with a HFN, or a part of a series with a cliffhanger, which I thought was quite fun. I’m at least curious to find out what will happen next for these people.

Fantastic Book!!!! 10/10

It’s a lighthearted story about four roommates in their mid-20s living in Manhattan. They all struggle to keep things platonic between them because all three guys like the one girl. One of the guys struggles with getting on board and doesn’t want her living there. Lots of antagonism going on between them, but the angst is pretty lightweight.

I teach creative writing, and this is a well-written, easy-to-read book. Lots of POV going on, and everyone gets their own say on the issues going on between them. Unlike some reviewers posted, I didn’t find any significant editing issues worth mentioning. The read is straightforward.

This book covers all five elements of a successful plot:

1. Introduction. - We meet the main female character, Ava is looking for a job and struggles to find a place to live.
2. Rising action. – Ava meets the three guys and rooms with them. The attraction is there, but they fight their urges. This causes tension and conflicts between them. An ex-boyfriend enters the picture initially, and Ava starts dating him to deter her growing attraction to her roommates. This unknown new guy also causes a major hindrance for the male roommates, so they back off from her….somewhat.
3. Climax/turning point. - tension is pretty high between Carter’s and Ava’s arguments.
4. Falling action. - We start to see the results of the main characters’ actions and get a sense of what this means for them and their relationship. We see how Ben and Oscar’s relationship with Ava affects Carter and the new group dynamics.
5. Resolution/denouement. - This final plot point is when everything has been wrapped up, the relationship is determined—and a new sense of normalcy for the characters—has been established. The conflict from the climax has been resolved, and all loose ends have been neatly tied up.

It’s a HEA story, but as described in the blurb, the epilogue ends with a cliffhanger. So if you just want a standalone story, don’t read the epilogue because you’ll get sucked in. I downloaded book 2 and read it over a weekend. Review coming soon!

I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was well written and there were only a few spelling mistakes.

I do want to note though that that although the author claims that each book in the series is a standalone that is definitely NOT the case. While the epilogue is what gives you the cliffy, the main event that is worked out in the next book, each book itself leaves MANY loose ends and unanswered questions which you have to keep reading in the series to find the answer. That alone makes this NOT A STANDALONE! Not to mention if you would start on any other book in the series besides book 1 many things wouldn't make sense since everything builds in the series. I guess it would maybe be possible if after you read book 1 and have the base to maybe jump to another layer book but you would still be lost when past events from other books are mentioned.

I've seen this author attack other people on FB pages making similar statements. She seriously believes that since there isn't a cliffy in the actual book that each is a standalone.

I fell for this comment from her.

If you like me only read completed series I would wait a good long while to start this series. Book 4 was just complete in May of 2023 and book 5 isn't expected until sometime in 2024.

I recommend.
A fun take on rh contemporary romance. I really loved this. The multiple POV was an essential and incredible choice for this story to be told in and it was done so well. Each character is different and interesting enough and I expect the author will expand on their stories within the series. The chemistry between the main characters is hot. I loved the gentle progress from friends to lovers but also enjoyed watching them struggle with the obvious attraction they have for each other. The FC has two female best friends that are funny and relatable which is quite rare in the rh romances I’ve read in the past.. There were some really funny moments in this story and also some emotional scenes. Full thumbs up for this book!!

I liked this. Ava our FL is looking for somewhere to live. She sees an ad for a room but its with three guys. She initially rejects it due to thinking they will be slobs but after her last viewing being terrible she rethinks her rejection and goes for a viewing. Them we meet the roommates. Carter, Ben and Oscar. Handsome(of course) built and not slobs, Ava finds herself moving in.

Ava is dramatic and its almost to much. I enjoyed her fight scene with the X but i think more damage should have been done. She fell down steps and took on a man. I was looking for more mean girls but they arent really a thing in this book. Ben is my least favorite bf, but he seems to have a personality shift after getting into a relationship with Ava.

This popped up in one of the groups I'm in, I was looking for something lighter. This author delivered. The story is much lighter than the dark romances I normally read. I was hooked all weekend reading this book. I loved all four main characters, and also the FMC's two BFFs. There's no mistaking the guys are hot, sexy, and gorgeous and I have a feeling the author will slowly dive into more detail about them throughout the series. The men are all different from each other and have interesting backstories. The book does have a 'happily ever after' if you read it as the author advises. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

I loved this and I want all my reverse harems to be romcom's. This book was fantastic. Easy to read, and the dialogue was witty and made me laugh. I think I may have found a new author to continually check up on. I loved all the characters, but I think Oscar is my favorite. I already ordered book 2. can‘t wait to read it!!!

It's charming and heartwarming.

I enjoyed reading this book. It's a fun palate cleanser from all the heavy dark romance that one gets when reading RH. The story is light and relatable. It's exactly the right formula for a romantic comedy with the added value that the main female character does not have to choose in the end.

I look forward to the second book in this series.

Great Read

This is my first bok from this author and I highly enjoyed it. I'm not big on reading MM scenes when I read RH books but Marian Andrew did it wonderfully. If you are a fan of MM with you MFM it may be a little vanilla for you.
However, the hot scenes she writes are super hot. On to the next one.

Good story line, poorly written

I was very excited about the story line 'of girl moves in with three guys' but it is hard to get past some of the poorly written scenes, grammar mistakes, and spelling errors. It had the potential to be a great story with better editing. Without spoilers, the ending seemed like a forced cliff hanger without any buildup.

enjoyable story

This was an easy fun read. Low angst. Although the main female character is in the fashion industry, very little of this is in the story. The book could use an editor as some phrases were wrong, but not bad enough to be completely misunderstood.

I'm beginning to like all these sweet romances cropping up in reverse harem stories.

Love the fact that the MCs all focus on developing a friendship first even though the attraction existed from the get-go. The fact that there's an ex who the guys hate on was amusing.

The 1st book I read by Marian Andrew was dark, but this one is a lot lighter. This was a cute, sweet, fun read! I really enjoyed it. In simple terms, this is a reverse harem romcom. This was one of the few reverse harems I've read that had the perfect mix of likable characters, fun plot, and amazing spice. I love the story, the writing flowed pretty well making it easy to read. By the end of the first page, I knew I was going to love this book. I'll definitely be reading more from this author and look forward to another story in this series.

I absolutely love anything written by Marian. She is the queen of RH. Her books are smutty, but they also have characters with depth and there is always a mystery to solve. My advice...read anything written by Marian you can get your hands on. You won't be disappointed.

I wanted to read book 2 before I wrote a review. I enjoyed both but I think the author has a lot more planned for these characters as their stories continue. I'm glad there are authors like Marian Andrew, Lily Gold, and Stephanie Brother who have decided to break out of the usual dark RH plots and write romcoms, that are light and pleasing reads. This is the first book from a series, it's about how they all meet, and their struggles of being attracted to one girl or one girl to three guys. If this were real life, I can imagine how strange such a situation would be and it's great how it's written this way. So this is what the plot is about: relationship development and the struggle of trying to understand something all four have never tried before or in Carter's case unwilling to try because of his fears and reservations.

With regards to comments about editing issues. I'm not an author, nor an editor. Just someone who likes to read, so if there were, they weren't big enough for me to spot them, or care.
