OH….MY……GOSH. I was so captivated by this story from the beginning! I love how you dive into the lives of these characters. It felt like I was watching an episode of the tv show YOU. The writing was amazing, and you really see how everything unfolds and I will always appreciate authors that put an Epilogue at the end of their books(she has one) 😂 This is definitely for the dark romance lovers out there.

18+ TW include - Mention of SA ; blood play ; knife play ; kidnapping ; murder(obviously 😂)

Cups of Sugar was a fantastic book to read from beginning to end. Opening with interesting characters and a refreshing twist on the “mysterious neighbor”theme, the author establishes a dark and tempting atmosphere that keeps the reader hanging on every word.
Wonderful characterization and some clever scene setting blend very well with Peterson’s unique take on perspective, which helps the book stand out amongst other books with a similar narrative. Each chapter gives more insight and depth to its respective lead character, and keeps the reader engaged as they begin to come closer and closer together, pulling them into a dangerous double-life. Steamy scenes scattered throughout the book provide the perfect balance of plot elements and excitement, making it easy to keep turning the pages.
Stalking, deception, and murder culminate in a passionate and forbidden love, leaving both parties incredibly vulnerable to each other and unsure if they can trust their partner to keep their promises. Intense and believable moments draw the reader in further, allowing them know the characters and their emotions more clearly, something that can be seen as rare in the realm of dark romance novels.
Captivating storytelling and beautiful depictions of locations set a brisk pace. Introducing chapters and new places never feels stale or slows the book down, leading up to a shocking ending that will have readers asking for more

My god.

What a book. The ending shocked me, the storyline was amazing and the plot incredible.

Issac/ Dany was an extremely complexe and interesting character. I wish we knew more about him.

Evelyn was very unique and reading her thoughts about the situation was interesting.

Their romance is something that’s for sure. But I loved it. I am ashamed that I did.

Left unsatisfied

Evelyn has always wanted to own her own her own coffee/bake shop. After all, she loves to bake. When she moves to the small, quiet town of Violet Springs, she opens her shop called The Honey Pot and things are going good. She even meets her new hot neighbor, Isaac Summers and he seems into her just as much as she’s into him. But not everything is good in this town. There just so happens to be a violent serial killer on the lose called The Visitor who likes to stab people and then take their picture and now The Visitor has taken an interest in Evelyn.

Isaac is not your average “cute guy”. He’s quiet, shy, and somewhat reserved when it comes to the bedroom. And when Evelyn meets The Visitor and finds interest in his … tastes.. she’s torn between nice guy Isaac, and finding out if she can really have something with.. Danny.

But you see.. not everything is what it seems in Violet Springs. Isaac is not the nice guy everyone thinks he is, and Evelyn may be a lot more familiar with The Visitor than she’d like to be.

Okay.. now for my review. I will start off with saying I’ve had this book on my wishlist FOREVER. Probably since I started my booktok journey over 2 years ago. I finally was able to get it on Pango for a really good deal and I couldn’t pass it up. Now with that said.. the start of this book was really slow and quite boring. It wasn’t until I was about 100 pages in that things started to pick up. I liked the whole premise of the book. Serial killers are my vibe. But I think it was executed in a way that tried to be more on the lighter side of it and with a humorous twist and I think it didn’t quite hit the mark in that aspect. I also did not particularly care for the way the story was told. The constant character switching within the same paragraph had me confused at times. Now for Evelyn.. her drinking problem pissed me off cuz it literally came out of nowhere. And she was too much of a pushover when it came to Isaac. If she wanted him to do certain things, she should have voiced what she wanted. But other than that, I liked the idea of the story, I liked the overall outcome, and there were some really intriguing parts. It was a fun read overall. 3 stars.

Really didn’t care for the 3rd person writing style. It also felt like dual POV but not. There was no distinguishing between if it was Evelyn or Isaac/Danny thinking, it was just POOF changed. Ultimately, I struggled really hard to finish this and not DNF it.

The MMC had multiple alias and sometimes they were used in a single paragraph. For example:

“Just a coffee, extra sugar please,” said Isaac. He handed over the money and took a seat at one of the tables against the wall. While Tyrell went to work, Danny looked toward the back door, wondering if Evelyn was going to come out on her own.

Issac & Danny are the same person so I get what the author was going for but the actual execution failed in my opinion.

And lastly, Evelyn was a horrible and unlikeable FMC. She whines, and has a “poor me” mentality and yet she brings it on herself. Don’t get me started on her drinking problem. That is a whole other issue for me.
Her and Isaac/Danny were not a good pairing. There was nothing this in book that made me think “oh, there is it. I get why now”…. Cuz the chemistry is just not there.

Possible spoilers…..

I have a love/hate for Danny. He is not my favorite serial killer / morally gray man. I feel Danny is more of a realistic version if someone in the real world actually dated a serial killer because the disconnect between him and Evelyn sometimes & how he treated her & was back & fourth about killing her the whole book, & then what happened at the end of the book. Danny impulse control to him needing to kill, where as other books the stalker or killer are more organized & well thought out, & the way her picked his kills, this had more of a true serial killer effect. I kinda enjoyed it, but it was very slow read for me. I kinda got bored most of the time I was reading. This book had good parts & bad parts. I felt like some things were just drawn out. The book could’ve been shorter.

I’m torn between a 3 and a 4! Tiktok made me read it again 😂😂 It made me want to know what was going to happen for sure. Some things felt unfinished. I would have liked the coworkers reaction. Then all of a sudden in the last quarter of the book they both smoke cigarettes?

This book was so unhinged, I give it 4.5 stars. The MMC is so crazy, I loved him LOL. The FMC starts dating her neighbor who happens to be the town serial unaliver. I was literally on the edge of my seat reading this. It has stalking, knife play, and amazing spice!

3.75/5★

rounded it to four for the nostalgia factor. can't believe my favourite fanfiction from 4 years ago actually turned into a book. i miss all the little details and things that were cut off from the original, they framed the story so much better, so that brings the rating down quite a lot.

Cups of sugar kept my eyes glued to the pages the entire time I was reading. When I wasn't reading it I had a feeling of wanting to read more. I highly recommend give this a read.

Tossing up between a 3 & 4 star rating - was absolutely hooked from the beginning but would of liked to see co-workers reactions or really a proper ending, he just comes back?

I had a bit of trouble getting through this book. I enjoyed it but also felt as though it was a bit disjointed.
There was real passion and fear, but it also left me feeling hollow.

This started of great, a little slow, but great. The ending seemed rushed to me if anything. I don't know if I got sucked into the morbid serial killer side but I wanted it to end with the boyfriend tied to a chair in the bedroom... was disappointed with the ending.
