An Empire risen from blood and ash. Murder. Betrayal. Undisputable power. A sacrifice to be given. An innocent life to be lost. He made the solemn vow. The flesh of my flesh will perish in flames, but the blood will forever reign.
-------
All I wanted was a new life, a fresh start in Faders Bay. But fate hadn’t written my name in the stars, it was written in cold, murderous blood.
Zade. Sawyer. Dalton. Cross.
They wanted something from me—they wanted my heart. Literally carved right out of my chest.
They vowed to protect me, vowed to keep me safe from the very monsters they claimed to be. But Zade was the devil, a knight in shining murder, while the others sat back to watch the show, wicked grins stretched across their traitorous faces. I never should have trusted them.
I had two choices. Willingly hand myself to Zade and become collateral to his war, or … rise like a queen and burn these mothers to the ground.
Empire is a Reverse Harem, Enemies to Lovers, Dark Secret Society, Gothic Contemporary Romance series. It contains explicit sexual content, extreme graphic violence, cult-like material, and coarse language. This series is not suitable for young readers.
This book is like Boys of Winter by the same author. But much much shittier.
The FMC, Oakley, is honestly laughable. She’s so unbelievably dumb it’s painful. She gets dickmatized at every turn, and the second that happens, all her brain cells vanish. She keeps getting played, but just keeps crawling back for more. Her entire personality is letting the guys sleep with her - she’s basically a doormat with zero dignity.
I kept waiting for a plot twist where she turns out to be some undercover badass - like she came back to Faders Bay to avenge her dad and was just pretending to be helpless to fool the guys. But nope. She really is that dumb.
Out of Winter (Boys of Winter) and Shayne (Depraved Sinners), Oakley is hands down the worst FMC. She has no sense of self-preservation or self-respect.
She, herself, even says:
"Shit. What the hell is wrong with me? I swear, I’m really a smart girl. I make good choices, get good grades, and I don’t sleep around. But since showing up here in Faders Bay, I’ve become a stranger to myself."
"Goddamn, I’m such a fucking idiot."
Yeah, girl… we noticed.
I won’t be continuing the series. I can’t stand the FMC enough to stick around.
Wowzers! Y’all are in for one hell of a ride with this new series. Written by the fabulous Sheridan Anne it gives us everything we’ve come to expect and just that wee squeeze more. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 somebody send in the firefighters, cause this gals on fire!!!!
Oakley is the stunningly beautiful, yet down to earth girl that hasn’t had an easy life. She’s trying to get her college degree and working in a local bar to pay her rent. Before she knows what’s hit her, she’s knee deep in a secret society that need to use her for their gain. Oh and this secret society….. the hottest, sexiest bad boys you could imagine.
Stick me in the middle of this bad boy sandwich!
Another 5* read from the queen of dark/adult romance! Sheridan Anne…. My lady parts salute you!
One word ! OBSESSED!!! I am obsessed with this new series by Sheridan Anne she has done it again and created a world full of characters that I am absolutely OBSESSED with I loved everything about this series the banter the steam the suspense it’s also no surprise that I absolutely love the heroine because let’s face it this author is known for her strong bad ass female characters they take no shit and give as good as they get and Oakley just might be my favorite yet and that ending sweet baby Jesus I need the next book ASAP!!!
Empire is Sheridan Anne’s newest series and she did not disappoint. I loved everything about this book. It checked everyone of my boxes. Oakley returns to her hometown to start college and she meets 4 hot men. Zade, Dalton, Sawyer, and Cross. My favorites so far are Zade, Dalton, and Sawyer but that could change after the next book. Sheridan Anne is a 1 click author for me and she has never let me down. I can’t wait to read the next book!!
Like always, Sheridan starts this new series with a bang- diving into a whole new dark, gritty, and super spicy reverse harem story in the first book in the series, Empire. Sheridan dives straight into some really complicated and steamy dynamics between Oakley and our guys- and there is no shortage of sexual chemistry between them. There’s some great emotional tension and all sorts of fun bantering jibes between these characters. We’re still getting to know these crazy guys, but they are certainly anti-heroes in every way. Delicious but depared, all circling around our heroine who just can’t seem to resist their antics.
At times, I was frustrated with Oakley- girlfriend, what are you doing?! She’s clearly easily influenced by these devious men, and while they certainly are mesmerizing, I hope she can start to make choices that aren’t so quite contrary to the girl she is outside of them. She herself acknowledges the peculiarity of how easily she falls into their web, but I’m excited to see how she can find more ground and get more control as this story progresses. But so far, it is hella entertaining and oozing with that Sheridan edgy spice. AND, the plot twists as always are chefs kiss- with a jaw dropping cliffhanger finale that will have us all clamoring for answers as Sheridan has flipped this whole thing on its head.
Sheridan Anne has this way of making you dive into a book, even not knowing anything about it, and not thinking twice before you realize your hours in and no clue where time went. all you know is you were sucked into the story and loving every second of it.
Empire is book one of the Empire series. It follows Oakley as she returns to her childhood town of Faders Bay to continue her college education. what she doesn’t know is she’s been targeted by the Empire as a sacrifice for the next ruler.
this book, i don’t even know what to say besides i loved every second of it. i was honestly at the edge of my seat the whole time because you get the guys perspective of their diabolical plan, but also Oakleys perspective and damn do i love her. knowing the guys plan, i want them to fall on their asses and fail. (but let me be the first to say now that by book 3, perhaps, i’m going to love all the guys and fight for which one is mine if it’s not all of them).
definitely read this series! empire is book one and there is expected to be four or five books in the series. book two is set to release in February 2023. first person with multiple POV.
I cannot get enough of Sheridan's work. Her stories always suck me in and sling me off a cliff in the end.
Oakley gives zeros f's. She just wants to go to school, pay her rent, and maybe have a bit of horizontal, or vertical fun on the side. She's got a smart mouth and matches all the guys each step of the way.
The guys are mysterious, kinda like Empire. We get to see a bit inside their heads and inside their organization. Zade, Cross, Sawyer and Dalton better watch their step because Oakley is here to throw a wrench in all their plans.
I freaking LOVE secret society books. The creepier, the better, and Empire is definitely up there. I was left saying wtf, but I am so freaking excited for Legacy. I need to know what our girl is going to do!
I never have to question if I’m going to read a new book by Sheridan Anne. She never disappoints.
If you’ve read her previous series “Boys of Winter” or “Depraved Sinners” and you loved them, then this needs to be your next read!
The group of boys remind me more of the guys from “Boys of Winter”. They were all likeable from the get go, despite their agenda with our FMC. They weren’t so openly cruel and cold as the guys from “Depraved Sinners”.
There was plenty of heat and sexy times for all the smut lovers and a ton of mystery, suspense and angst. I foresee a lot of heartbreak, deception, and secrets to come in this series. But I also can see some epic moments.
I’m excited to see the veil torn back from our FMC unknown background that she’s unaware of. This is a dark romance but so far I put its darkness on par with the Boys of Winter but I can see it getting bloodier and darker as the books go on.
The cliff hanger left me needing answers right now. But it seems I’ll be waiting and I don’t mind at all!
Well Sheridan certainly knows how to kick off a series with a bang!! Empire is book one in her new dark reverse harem series that focuses around one secret society and the many secrets they hold.
Oakley is our leading lady and she’s allllll kinds of sass. Girl is who she is, no Fs to give about what anyone thinks. Only problem is, she has no idea what she’s really walked into. All she knows is the guys who live on her floor aren’t to be messed with.
Zade, Cross, Sawyer, and Dalton … bad boys for life! 😆 No but seriously, these four are on a mission and nothing will stand in their way, that’s not how they were raised and not how they’re going to survive.
This was dark and steamy and suspenseful… I honestly had a hard time putting it down! And while the cliffy was rough, Sheridan has doled out worse that’s for sure. Can’t wait to see what she has in store with book two! (4.5⭐️)
HOLYFRIGGINAMAZEBALLS. I've only juet dived in and howling with laughter. Both Oakley and Cara are hilarious and friendship bloody goals.
Oakley is bold, sassy, fierce, hilarious and full of badassary. She is unlike ANY female lead I've read. My favourite lead!
There are some serious plot twists and jawdropping moments but pick that jaw up and continue the ride! I have honestly been left speechless utter speechless. I am a sucker for a secret society and i can feel this series is going to SLAY.
4 broody alpha men, dark, sly, hot AF and devious. Zade, Dalton, Cross & Sawyer will leave you swooning, drooling, dickmatized and hurt. But hold on to your knickers there is sone serious steam and you'll need a shower!
That motherfrigginending... is jawdropping! A tamer ending but a mic drop moment. My lips are sealed but roll on book 2!
There's a reason why sheridan Anne is the Queen of Cliffhangers, but I will admit this wasn't as bad as some of her other, but it still left me with my mouth gaping open. This dark RH is addictive sexy dark and captivating. Can't wait for book 2
just.. awlful..dnf. the main characters obsession with these manwhores was ridiculous. The main character would stand up to them but have no followup or plan .. she was constantly getting in predicaments. idk just not good
Empire by Sheridan Anne is the first book in the Empire Series. This book is a secret society, dark paranormal, RH romance. This audiobook is a dual narration, performed by two of the best voices of the industry Andy Eloise and James Cassidy. The writing is fluid and the story hooks you from the beginning, with a brutal cliffhanger. The chemistry and the spice are palpable and absolutely beautifully weaved into the story and plot. James Cassidy is one of my favourite voices, he is absolutely amazing, bring out all the voices, the gives us such an amazing effortless performance, dripping in originality and sensuality. Andi Eloise, this Goddess, has brought all the characters in such a beautiful way but for Oakley she put her snarky pants on delivering us the note only her vulnerability but as well her overconfidence, and all her emotions.
Where can I even start. This book was a fast pace dream. The cliffy gutted me literally. But I was so pleasantly surprised I will check out Sheridan's back catalogue.
I can't wait for book two. I am just like a fish flapping with no water. WTF happened in the end???
Once again, Sheridan Anne has me in a chokehold. I love all of her books, but her why choose catalogue definitely holds a special place in my heart. I was so glad to jump back into her writing and devour every page. As per usual, I was hooked from page one. The men are so perfectly effed up and I can't wait to see the havoc they will bring to this series. While I found Oakley to be a bit annoying at certain points in the book, I have no doubts that Sheridan will have me obsessed with her in no time. Secret society is one of my favorite tropes, so I was sold from the moment Sheridan announced this series and I was not disappointed.
If you enjoyed The Boys of Winter series, this book is definitely for you. There are similar vibes at play, so definitely give it a read.
Holy crap! What a good book! Ooff 5 stars easy! I'm obsessed! Oakley Zane Cross Sawyer and Dalton are ugh.. just the best! Wow I'm speechless ! That ending had me in the edge of my seat! So many twists and turns couldn't see coming!! I can not wait to see what Sheridan has instore next!!
Hooooolllly sh!t. What a wild ride that was!!! Think Boys of Winter with Depraved Sinner vibes...this was so good that I devoured this in a day. An absolutely stunning work of art from Sheridan!
Sheridan Anne has done it again! Every time I think I’ve read the best book by her she goes and writes and even better one! I think Cross might be my favorite right now but there’s something about Zade that’s calling to me. Oakley is in for the fight of her life literally and I can’t wait for book 2 to share more of this story!
I feel conflicted about this one. From the very start, I couldn't make sense of any of Oakley's decision making. Granted, I understand this is fiction, but I read a lot of this particular mafia-boys-club-reverse-harem genre and chapter after chapter, I could not wrap my head around why this FMC was reacting and behaving in such odd ways. So chapter after chapter, I was expecting a big reveal -- a big reveal that in fact Oakley has known what's happening the whole time and she's going to turn it around on the boys, showing that she's been playing them the whole time and thereby making her decisions make sense... but that is not how this story ended. As of the end of this book, it seems Oakley is just not a very bright character. Here's hoping that the big reveal happens in book 2 and Oakley has been the mastermind of her Empire coup after all.
Three stars for me because the story was enjoyable enough that I would consider picking up book 2, but I'm not sure I can shake the bizarre FMC decision making skills.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
In true Sheridan fashion I couldn’t put this down if I tried! She sucks you in from the first page and does not let go until you beg for more.
If you’ve read BoW or Depraved Sinners you’re in for a treat. It honestly feels like the best of both worlds. Secret Society, betrayal, murder, psycho sexy man candy that’s like Burger King you can have it your way, oh and you’re destined to rule or die.
1. I love our MC Oakley ( LOVE THIS NAME BTW!). She’s fierce and doesn’t take any crap from literal murders. 2. The guys are all dark, murdery little asshole you want to tie you to a basketball goal…iykyk. 3. The worlds intertwine! You’ll see! 4. The smut is a hot 3/5🔥 I know by the end of the series I’ll get a good 5/5🔥. This is just the warm up. 5. We have a cliffy, but Sheridan takes it easy on this one lol I’d rate it a 2/5….she’s been more demented to her readers in the past.
RH/multi POV/dark/enemies to lovers/fast burn/cults/secret society/violence/murder/human sacrifice/branding/knife play
Empire is the first book in Sheridan's new series and it does end on a cliffhanger.
Zade is finally in a position to take over Empire, and nothing will stop him, but he must complete the exchange of power ritual first. He needs Oakley's heart.. literally. Oakley is back in Faders Bay for college just trying to life her life and get her degree. As Zade, Cross, Sawyer and Dalton infiltrate her life, they say they are trying to protect her.. but why does that seem like only half of the truth? Oakley has to decide what to believe and who she can trust.. which pretty much seems like no-one. What is 'Empire'.. or who? And what do they want with her?
GAHHH this was such an amazing start to this series. Sheridan always keeps me on my toes with her twist and turns. I always fly through her books and this was no exception. While Oakley may be completely clueless in regards to Empire...she's not a push over and I can't wait to watch her own this shit! I loved the guys but I would be lying if I didn't want to junk punch them a few times right there along side Oakley. This book was not super frequent on the smexy times, but we’re building relationships here and I'm not concerned. I know Sheri can bring it and she's just biding her time. 😈 Now the few spicy scenes we did have were top notch... roof top, check... in the elevator, check... threesome in a storage closet at a fancy gala while one watches, sign me the fuck up! 🥵
I know this story and these characters are all going to be a complex and I can't wait to watch this story continue to build. I laughed my ass off, my jaw hit the floor a several times and I almost died when we got a little snip of our favorite DeAngelis brothers!!! 🖤 This cliffhanger though.. ma'am I'm going to need book two like right now! (however on a Sheri cliffhanger scale.. I would rate this around a 2.5 on the cliffy scale. I know she's just warming us up... yeah, you know its true.. I see you Sheri. 👀)
Well didn’t think it was possible but looks like I have a new favorite character from Sheridan. Didn’t think Tanner would be knocked off his pedestal but I can say he is hanging on by a nail.
Going into this I’m not gonna lie, I was getting Boys of Winter vibes and I had a feeling it may be similar, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it wasn’t like that at all. I absolutely love Cross. He’s mine I licked him first. Truth be told, I found it hard having a favorite at first but something about Cross stuck out for me but watch this space I know that list will grow as the series goes.
This was a great start to the series, and I love the Mystery, suspense and anticipation, it has me at the edge of my seat and I’m looking forward to how it all unfolds. I love the balance of humor and Witt from the characters also. It really livens up the story and makes the world feel more authentic and real. Some great world building and amazing character introductions so far. I can’t wait to see where book 2 goes and I can’t wait to get more twists and turns throughout because we all know Sheridan isn’t going to give us a flurry book, no, she’s going to do her darndest to destroy us by the end and I’m here for it.
The plot so far is great, and I’m intrigued with somethings that have popped up so far. I also already have some hunches going based on what we have so far. I’m also hoping the tension grows more to the point where it just explodes. Amazing chemistry between the characters and I can’t wait to see more of the world develop and get the full experience once we are finished and I can tell its going to be a world I will want to explore multiple times. Amazing job Sheridan you have my interest piqued, where will you take us now and how many times are you going to have us go over the cliff so to speak?
Once again, Sheridan Anne has written a story that just sucks you in from the beginning. She is an amazing writer, and I love all of her books, but she has an extraordinary talent for writing stories about secret societies. If I didn't know better, I'd say she's the leader of one of these societies, and she just writes everything she experiences while running it. Empire is the perfect mix of dark, mysterious, sexy, humorous, and totally captivating.
The FMC, Oakley (I FREAKING LOVE HER NAME), is sassy, sexy, intelligent, and strong. She's confident enough to know what she wants, and she takes it. She knows the guys are using her (though she doesn't know exactly what for just yet) and she uses them right back. It's epic and hot AF. The guys, Zade, Sawyer, Cross, and Dalton (MINE!), are absolute perfection! They're sexy, ruthless alphaholes who do whatever they want, knowing they are powerful enough to get away with it. Did I mention how sexy they are?? I mean, all 4 are smokin', but Dalton is on another level.
There's plenty more that I could say about the brilliant beginning to this series, but I don't want to give anything away, as you all deserve to experience it in all its beauty! It shouldn't come as a shock that it ends on a jaw-dropping cliffhanger. I can't wait to see what else is in store for Oakley and the guys!!
I’m one book into this series and I’m in love with it already…but I really need book 2 😂! Sheridan Anne is one of my favorite twists & cliffie queens, and Empire does not disappoint. These characters are fantastic! The friendship banter between Oakley (FMC) and her new college roommate Cara is great! Oakley is my favorite kind of FMC…independent, has a backbone, sassy with just the right amount of snark. She is also confident enough with her sexuality to seek what she wants (👏👏)! The guys…where do I start? Dalton Eros: hot, cocky, & and the ability to follow it up. Easton Cross: if you want to give it a go make sure you like snakes 🐍 and shaky legs! Sawyer Thorne: make sure the smirk and dominating tone doesn’t pull you under. Last but certainly not least the ring leaderZade DeVil: set to take over a Secret Society, wears his B.D.E. like armor, & his attitude is like a weapon. These guys are my kind of 🥵 psychos and I love it! However, what they have planned for Oakley is not something she can come back from…or is it?!? I can not wait for book 2!
Even though this book is darker, the humor that is woven in is great! WhyChoose / College Age Secret Society Dark Romance TW/18+
If you are looking for a good secret society darkish vibe, look no further. Empire, what an accurate name for this book.
How interesting that Sheridan has made this story, so vivid with the imagery of murder, mystery, power and rituals. All of the good combinations for a good secret society read.
Also what makes this a book I could not put down was Oakley, I mean come on you have to root for her. I felt for her and some of the stuff she has to go through was messed up. I kept saying to myself, you go girl.
If you are looking for some hard, brutal characters for the guys, Zade, Cross, Sayer and Dalton fit perfectly.. You are going to love to hate these guys. But I know I am a sucker for these characters that are brutal and dark.
Their chemistry was hot, and I so enjoyed how she gave them a run for their money several times, and used them for herself other times. Lucky Girl.
So yes, defiantly give this darker read a try, I promise you will enjoy it. And what an ending as well, really needing book two now!!
Sheridan Anne never disappoints! This book had its hooks in me from the very start. I loved every bit of it from the plot to the spice. 🌶🌶🌶🌶/5 Oakley is a strong FMC who can definitely hold her own and doesn’t back down. She moves back to the town she grew up in to attend college only to be met by 4 guys who are part of a secret society that plans to use her as a sacrifice. Zade sawyer cross and dalton tell her they are trying to protect her from someone who has a hit put out in her. It’s their excuse to keep her close. What they don’t intend on happening is all 4 of them developing feelings for her in one way or another. Zade told them to keep their distance from her because he has to offer her heart to Empire before the 60th moon so that he can take over as the leader of the society. Slowly but surely the reality of that happening starts to get fuzzy. The cliffhanger ummm didn’t see that coming at all!
Also, EASTON CROSS. Don’t even get me started on that man and the TATTOO!! 🫠🥵 out of the 4 of them he has my heart that’s for damn sure!!
I’m so in love with Oakley. She’s an accidental bad-ss, a product of her situation. She’s definitely running from a problematic past and hoping for a fresh start. Little does she know, her past has a few surprises for her.
These guys… I’m in love with them all. Cross is my favorite, I’m a sucker for the broody type, and Zade isn’t far behind. I need to learn more about Sawyer, and Dalton… I have mixed feelings about him.
All of these characters are so beautifully developed, and the story wraps them up with a gorgeous cover!
I did have one issue with the book, but I think that was me and my brain- I felt the secrets that had to come out were teased too blatantly? I don’t know if that’s the right way to say it, but sometimes I feel when there was issues for the FMC, it was obvious that there was secrets, and I felt there were sections involving the secrets that were a little tough to read. Things were said to be obvious, and no discussion happened. That might have been the author’s point, but it pulled me out of the story because it was hard to understand why things were said when they were. Like I said, likely just me, but that was my experience.
This is the first book in this new series Empire #1 and I absolutely love this authors writing style. This book is a dark reverse harem romance with alot of spice and suspense.
Oakley has just moved back to town after being away and what she never expected was the guys, Zade, Dalton, Sawyer and Cross. These guys have pulled Oakley into their world and I don't think they are expecting the twists she brings herself, shes about to beat them at their own game.
I loved reading about these guys and if you love this authors other series ( Boys of Winter) then you will absolutely love the way that this story plays out. I love secret society books and I love the way that this author creates the worlds full of twists and turns and total shocks the reader will not see coming. This is a great start to a new series and ends on a cliffhanger.
This book yo, will have you all kinds of hyped up. I fell in love with Oakley from the get-go, that girl was a hoot. She had sass, she had style, she had pizzazz. I loved her wittiness, and that girl can hold her own down. She might be a little afraid sometimes but she wouldn't back down. She didn't care if she would go down but she would die trying.
All Oakley cared about was minding her business, working and focusing on school -- that's it, but when four gorgeous guys come barreling in her life demanding that they need to protect her for some odd reason, she isn't buying it and she finds them suspicious. She has her little fun with three out of the four and she feels like she can only trust one out of all of them, but at the same time she has herself that she needs to worry about. When she comes to find out why the guys are really protecting her, she needs to take control of what's rightfully hers, but I'm sure it's going to cost her to get to where she should.
This book, boy -- I was all kinds of anxious, hyper, discombobulated! I loved every second of every minute of this story and can't wait to continue reading Oakley's journey along with the boys to see how it will unfold.
