The Horror Club A Trip to The Video Store. A brand-new novel from award-winning writer and director Jeremy Campbell.
“1994, Freddy was pronounced dead, and Jason was sent to hell. But a couple of friends are planning a resurrection.”
Wes is a thirteen-year-old misfit who loves all things horror and has big dreams of someday becoming a makeup effect’s artist and movie director. His friend and mentor, a former 80’s television horror vixen, Cassondra Dagger, believes in Wes and supports him at every turn. Cassondra is a true rocker that keeps the 80s and horror alive at her independent owned video store, Titan Videos. But it’s a new decade, the 80s are fading away fast, and the 90s are in full swing. No one is watching horror movies anymore. Cassondra is finally faced with the fact that if things don’t improve quickly, she will have to shut down her beloved video store for good. Not willing to accept the news, Wes puts a plan into action to save Titan Videos and his mentor from becoming relics of a bygone era. Armed with his makeup effects skills and backed by his ban of outcast companions, Wes sets out to prove that horror still rules, even in 1994.
Cute, but in desperate need of an editor. The amount of typos, grammatical errors, and formatting issues made this book borderline unreadable. I pushed through because I wanted to see how it ended. The story is very light-hearted and straightforward, without any major twists and turns. I could feel the author's love for this era and the industry, and I wish that an editor or proofreader had been involved because this story really did have potential.
I loved the nostalgia this book brought me. It brought out memories I had once forgotten, memories of a local video store my mom would take me in the late 90’s - early 2000’s. From start to finish I was reminded of the feelings I once had as a kid enjoying his summer break. The book flowed very well and the story telling was fun and easy to follow. All in all, this book was incredibly fun to read and reminded me of good times and childhood memories that had been sitting in the back of my mind for many years.
