The special exam on an uninhabited island has begun! For two weeks, students will do their best to visit checkpoints and complete challenges to gain points with their groups. Well, except for Ayanokouji, who has opted to tackle this exam on his own... or has he? Nanase, a first-year student from Class D, breaks off from her own group and asks to tag along with him, but there doesn't seem to be anything in it for her. Just what is this under-classman's goal?

Before I even start my review I want to praise how the reader was provided a map of the unhabitant island for the special exam and also an exam overview. That's really helpful and makes it easier for me to have a mental image of things too while I read. It also is neatly arranged from first of the map, than the exam overview and lastly the basic and special cards functions. I think it was properly done as all the information for the exam was given in the previous volume, which could be forgotten by some readers who didn't read the next volume shortly afterwards. Nevertheless, I still appreciate it and I'm happy that all the info is secured on some nice looking images which I can always come back to when I forgot something.

This volume was astonishing. I was right with what I wrote in my last review: This was all building up on this exciting volume and it was all worth it! I really enjoyed it, the exam was more complex than last time and it had so much drama. I love drama to be honest and so I really couldn't but seek more of it. Tsukishiro is such a cold-hearted man, I was really concerned near the end about a certain character 'cause of him. I felt a bit dissatisfaction by many great characters like Horikita and Sakayanagi not being mentioned in this volume, especially as Sakayanagi doesn't seem to be that much in the spotlight anymore since the beginning of year two. Though, I am glad that the newly introduced characters for the second year get their chance to shine. The pacing could be interpreted as being a bit off, but I honestly think it needed that slow start to make the ending satisfying. (+ there was something exciting happening around the middle of the book, so it's not like the only things that weren't boring were at the end or something. I myself never saw myself bored by this volume as I knew that it tried to built suspense and action before throwing it at the reader from the very start).

The last 30-25% were really a rollercoaster I was so hyped up and then I felt disappointed about a certain character, then I was happy again as a certain character I didn't like got put in her place by a new character I like even more now 'cause of this and then in the end I was like ‘Oh what’ and when I realised that this was the last thing for this volume I was like ‘Come on, not a cliffhanger please’ and now I feel empty inside for not knowing what will happen next.

(It's somehow became a meme that Ayanokouji and Ibuki sit next to eachother to Ibuki's own dismay, right?)

Not the strongest volume, I think that may have to do with the story on the island being split over two parts, but was kind of disappointed not to get Kiyo’s major plan at the end. Though the reveal about Nanase was hinted at, thought it was a good resolution to her arc. I just felt there was something lacking compared to some of the other volumes in the series though. A great read still, but I think there were just some boring parts to some of the exam stuff. Very in your face information, that so far, has gone nowhere.

When I started reading the book, I had a doubt whether one book could finish all the events that will take place in two weeks. I was skeptical. But then I got so into the story, I forgot about my initial doubts and when the book ended, I was met with a harsh reality. Now, the only thing I can do is to wait patiently for the author to finish writing the Vol. 4 and publish it.
I honestly love how amazing this series is so far!

this is much more aligned to what the series has been about. intriguing and suspenseful.
however, the challenge itself is a bit whack. It's more or less just running from one part of the island to the other.
I also found the interaction between MC and nanase interesting, they were mostly well written. the finale was a bit ridiculous though, needless fight.

Thank you again Syougo Kinugasa and Tomoseshunsaku for another great novel! I had some very high hopes for this novel, and I especially enjoyed it! Already despite seeing Riku and Tsubaki on the cover, (I think they're both very pretty), I knew I wasn't going to be disappointed.

I liked seeing Nanase and Ayanokoji work together, but I also found it odd that Ayanokoji agreed, after Housen, Ichika, and Nanase had this big plan on trying to expel him. Even Sudou and Ike were suspcious of her, but everyone was quite blinded because of her pretty and kind ways of speaking and mannerisms. Deception is her thing, you could say. She reminds me of Kushida, but Kushida is probably worse.

The fact that Nanase thinks she can easy side-step and deceive Ayanokoji is quite amusing to me. I read the whole book, and when they fought each other, I found it extremely interesting and it wasn't that slow-burned. I liked how Ayanokoji won with dominance over Nanase, but still showed respect after all of it. I understand how she feels; she says that she would have no hesitation saying that Ayanokoji was a wicked and filthy person in the White Room.

Basically, my main point here is that the book was very alluring, and it brought me contentment reading this. After reading 2, I finally understood everything (I honestly don't remember anything from Year 1), so it sorta makes sense to me.

This book was amazing! I can't wait to read Vol. 5! I'm looking forward to it!

"Offering his hand to a fool was something that man would never, ever do. That was the definitive difference between us."

Classroom of the Elite: Year 2 Vol. 3
By Syougo Kinugasa.

Okay, at first, I was quite sceptical about how the exam may go. It was probably the first time when an exam span over two. I didn't think it would be much entertaining, but I was wrong. I actually enjoyed this volume. It was thrilling.

The starting was rather slow. It was what made me think I won't like the volume much, but I'm so glad I was wrong. After the beginning, things get much more interesting. The Uninhabited Island test is much tougher than the previous one. This one has plenty of interesting tasks. Would have loved to see Ayanokoji going full head-on, but oh well, that's not happening. Kouenji is racking up points quite easily, though.

Nanase's journey throughout the whole book was thoughtful. I always thought she would jump at Ayanokoji at any moment. But her story was compelling. I do think she can be a great addition to the cast of characters going ahead. Her back story was great. The interaction with Ike was quite heartfelt, i guess. Also, the shinohara incident was unexpected, too.

“If you can’t see the person you care about again, you’ll never be able to tell them how you feel about them,”

The ending, though. Man Kinugasa really dropped a bomb like that and ended the volume. Luckily, I can start the next volume right up. Gotta find out who the person in the illustration really is. Also, I need to learn what's the plan of Ayanokoji.

The 3rd volume of Classroom of the Elite Second Year is an interesting one. The deserted island survival challenge starts and Ayanokouji has to be careful of his movements because he still hasn't found out the student from the white room and he is worried about Tsukishiro's movements. He decides to journey around with Nanase and together they complete challenges as part of the Deserted island survival challenge. However, at the end of the novel, Nanase attacks Ayanokouji and we find that she holds a grudge against him. Overall, the novel has many exciting parts and definitely a great addition to the Classroom of the Elite series.

Maybe it is unfair of me to take a star off for splitting the story into two volumes, but that's how I feel. Perhaps I am just looking for an excuse because it wasn't as strong as many other volumes. For me the resolution to Nanase's story took far too long, which certainly added to the page count. And while it is more realistic that Ayanokouji isn't going to be able to enter every task he tries for (with Nanase tagging along) it just felt so contrived that he missed the ones he did.

I hope it does manage to get wrapped up in the next volume which in-print is just over a month away.... so begins "the wait".

A good pace, it feels like the MC has had some development and the story got a lot of development what was very welcome (as I felt the last two books where a bit stagnant as they where mostly setting up for this book and all the new characters).
There's a lot of new characters, too many for me to keep on top of unfortunately so I need to google names now and then.

All in all though this has been the best book of this, in book, school year so far. Again, right after finishing the book, I'm ready and motivated for the next one.

seriously one of the most if not the most enjoyable, compeling and engaging volumes. Right from the start to the end. I am not sure why but I enjoyed it immensely and got lost in it quite easily. The way nanase was a mystery to the end and how many people are wanting to get him expelled. basically leaders of first years + tsukishiros pawns and more. How ayanokoji had to reveal his abilities. And when i thought it couldnt get better the ending was super interesting! I loved it, I think volume 4 should be even more interesting or.. at least i hope so

Read this one right after the previous one, where they basically hyped up this special exam for the whole volume. I think it was worth the hype. It's probably my favorite special exam thusfar. I flew through this one very quickly.
On the one hand I'm sad about the cliffhanger, but on the other hand, I'm happy that we get more of this exam.
I like that we get more and more about the White Room & Ayanokoji's abilites, that's probably the most interesting plot point for me.

Wow… they really end it like that.

This is getting even more complicated, it stressed me out. There’s a lot happening yet also felt like nothing has happened.

Maybe because I kinda just wanted to know the result of the special exam? It still stressed me out, tho.

I really like this book (especially compared to the last where the author somewhat ran out of pages and didn't really include a Special Exam) it started basically the second version of the island exam but didn't finish it (I expect the exam to probably end after 4.5 or 5).

A great volume overall with some interesting developments. But splitting the arc into two parts always makes the first volume a bit of a victim, as we know the next volume will have all the cool conclusions and answers.

Poor Ichinose. Koenji truly is incredible. I had a feeling she wasn't from there because she simply didn't keep up. There's so many people working to get Ayanokoji expelled now. I wonder what placement he'll end up in with everything happening?
