The Other Belle

Rate this book
"I'm giving you one last chance to tell me that I own you..."

Those are thirteen words that I refuse to give to the beastly man who kidnapped me in the middle of the night and forced me on a never-ending journey through the woods.

While he's desperate to break a tragic kingdom-wide curse that's ruined him to his core, I'm determined to escape and find my way home.

I'm not the woman he wants anyway...

He wants my sister, the beautiful, book-loving girl who wants more out of life and believes a prince is all she needs to find a happily ever after.

Of course, he has no idea that she's none of those things, and as much as I want to deny the chemistry between us, I can only take so much punishment, and I may be forced to finally submit to his desires...

Until then, I'll hold off on getting closer to a man like him, a true villain, destined for Hell...

He'll never have the real me, the other Belle...

Have you ever wanted the well-known “villain” to be the hero of a story?

More specifically, Gaston from Beauty and the Beast? Let me tell you a little story…

When I was a child and I first saw Beauty and the Beast, I secretly coveted Gaston 🫣. But society and my family can be so judgmental😐… so I “pretended” to hate him…👀

But I didn’t 😈 lol. His biceps? His cockiness? THAT CLEFT IN HIS CHIN??? 🫠 those piercing blue eyes 🥵What’s not to like 👀😅. Lol 🤣🤣🤣 (I’m aware- I’m basing it all on his looks okay… don’t judge me 🫣).

In my defense… um…

I… um…

Yeah… I have nothing… 🤣🤣🤣

All I know is I freaking SQUEALED when I realized that the hero in this book was G’Aston, aka Gabriel 👀.

Belle’s been hidden away by her family. In fact, there’s no real record of her anywhere. Her father and her sister, Isabelle (Izzie), are only interested in finding a way to become rich- what better way but by marrying someone with money?

The book begins with Prince Charming trying to find the eligible maiden that fits the shoe (side note. I love how Belle thinks he’s an !d!ot for not remembering what the “love of his life” looks like but is basing it all on whoever fits the slipper he’s dragging around with him 🤣🤣🤣). Although Belle’s foot fits, she doesn’t wanna be tied down to this man, so she refuses, which is when her father locks her up and abu$es her.

Months pass and Belle needs to clean and help her sister get ready to receive people. Out of nowhere, G’Aston appears, aka Gabriel Aston 👀.

What I liked/loved: possible spoilers-
—the take on Beauty and the Beast. I mean. It’s Gaston👀

—how feisty Belle is. Just because she’s a woman doesn’t mean she needs a man to feel fulfilled 💅. The way she’s talks back to Gabriel was 🤌🏻

—the fairy tale allusions/characters. When new characters popped in, I was side-eyeing them and remembering their stories 🤣. Totally brought me back to my childhood. I also love the twists included

—the tension leading to the 🔥. There’s lots of tension 👀. From their first encounter, I was appreciative of their chemistry 😅. Even in the scene where she runs away from him, he’s so good about catching her 😉 (I’m a suckaaa for behind the ear/neck breathing/touches 🥵). Lord. I can combust on this alone🔥. This is on the slow burn ish side, but because it’s on the short side, I didn’t feel it being too slow

—the nod to the movie. One of my favorite Disney movies is Beauty and the Beast, so seeing parts of the fairytale being told/reimagined was making my inner child scream 🥹

—the usual signature banter WG includes. It’s one of the reasons I love her books

—the emotional parts. I know how this story “ends”, but I still got emotional

—the world building. Sigh. I loooved it 🥹. Even though it’s based on fairytales, I still appreciated it 🤷🏻‍♀️

What I wanted more of:
—I wanted it longer 😩. As soon as a scene finished, I was left feeling bereft, especially when it came to both Belle and Gaston 😏. My favorite WG books are on the longer side, and this one was so good! I loved it all, but I just wanted it to be like an extra 50-100 pages longer 🫣.

—I missed WG’s signature duuurty talk. Sigh. But I still enjoyed what we got

Overall, I loved it 🥰

What the author calls an inverted/twisted Beauty & The Beast retelling reads more like discombobulated fairytales with cameos from any/all our childhood faves (to me).

I very much like the idea but many incongruities and too much predictability with no finesse in the story twists prevented me to take any of it seriously—or believe in this particular tale as old as time. The villains are grotesque in their obviousness. Belle is this weird dichotomy of brave and docile (and at times really stupid).

I wanted to lose myself in this fantasy but the idea wasn't exploited to the fullest, some explanations were too evasive. I wanted to believe in Belle and Gaston romance but this felt more forced than fated to me.
It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either or memorable.

The other Belle by Whitney Garcia Williams is a fabulous and superb retelling of Beauty and the Beast!!!! It is my new favorite not only because the writing was awesome but this character of belle is nothing like I've ever read!!! This is for us girls who could give a shit less about the handsome prince and want the villain instead! Its also for the girls that are fierce and smart who sometimes run their mouths when being silent would get them farther. Its also for the ones who have the balls to say fuck you to villain and who aren't ashamed to say what they need or want. I've always loved belle because she wasn't a princess. Princesses bore the fuck out of me. Where they are beautiful and perfect' belle was smart and kind. In this retelling belle is still smart and kind but now she has a edge and I loved her inner dialogue especially when plotting her abusive fathers death! Both her father and her sister are the family from hell who basically left her behind after fucking over G’aston Gabriel Aston! From the start G'aston and Belle are like oil and water she's mouthy and not afraid of this dark and brooding bad boy and every chance she gets she tries to run. But that doesn't stop her from dreaming about or from wanting his kiss but he's obsessed with finding her sister so she can break his curse. G'aston must find Bella's sister before the next full moon before he turns into the beast again and if he has to deal with the maddening and beautiful belle and also fight his growing attraction for her and the need to take her, he will! But it isn't going to be easy with her responding to his every touch and kiss. The chemistry between these two was hot and steamy and the enemies to lovers trope awesome. G'aston has always been the villain in the original story and I never liked him but this G'aston is a smoking hot anti hero and a little bit beasty!!!😁 loved the storyline and the storytelling was fabulous and the added mentions of other fairytales woven through out this tale too cute! I can't say enough about this retelling I truly enjoyed it from start to finish. This Belle is my favorite of all I've ever read! And I've read a lot. Until Next Time Luv's 💕💋

I'm a huge fan of fairy tale remakes and this one had so many elements to it that I'm completely in love!

This is not the Belle I grew up with. This is a new improved Belle perfect in pretty much every way. She's fierce, strong and independent.

The hero was a complete turnaround from the original beauty and the beast. I love the switch and from the moment I realized who the hero was going to be, I could not wait to see how it all played out. I loved that this hero had all the characteristics this author's previous heroes have that makes me love them.

There are a lot of twists and turns in this story and I loved every moment of the guessing game. I never saw the end coming! Highly recommend this if you like retellings of your favorite fairy tale. Hope to get more and more and more of them!

Who doesn’t love a good fairy tale?!

Belle is the secondary daughter in her family. She has a sister called Izabelle, more commonly known as Izzie and they live with their father. There is no record of Belle’s birth or existence, she has been kept at home and she is treated so poorly by the people who should love her the most.

When Prince Charming comes knocking on the door with a slipper left behind at a ball the night before for all the fair maidens of the village to try on, Izzie is not the perfect fit. When Belle is spotted and asked to try it on, it fits. Alas, Belle is not interested in him whatsoever and turns down his offer of marriage, I mean who wants to marry a guy who can’t even remember what the ‘love of his life’ looks like.

Belle’s father and sister are fuming about her refusal to consider marrying the prince. She is punished for how her decision will affect them. They are both money hungry and will do anything to secure a future that financially benefits them both. After months of being locked away, Belle is finally set free and her first stop is the local bookshop - her most favourite place in the village. She enjoys getting lost in the fictional world of a great story.

If you are a fan of Beauty and the Beast you will know the next person to appear in this story - G’Aston who is known as Gabriel. He is more associated with being the villain and to be fair I didn’t like his character at first but he did redeem himself. He sets his sights on Belle and decides to use her as a pawn to get her father and sister to pay up what they owe him. He overestimates how little they care for Belle though and as they travel to the 8th Kingdom he begins to see a different side to this intriguing, beautiful girl.

This is a very different adaptation of Beauty and the Beast with a few other well known fairy tale characters sprinkled throughout the story.

This was like if someone vomited every fairytale they could think of out into a book. They said “wouldn’t it be fun if the good guys were the bad guys, and the bad guys were less bad”
Literally felt like I was being randomly pummeled by fairy references as I tried to read a weird beauty and the beast story.
Also there are lots of things that are mentioned that just don’t pay off. I guess we need them bc fairytale?…

Brak logiki, chaos w wydarzeniach i decyzjach postaci. Nic by mnie tu nie zdziwiło.
A mężczyzna?

This was fantastic, I devoured this book 🥰. So completely different to what the author has ever done before but it really worked, the story was excellent and kept me soo enthralled and before I knew it I was finished 😫. It is under 200 pages so I expected this.

I loved all the fairytales mixed together and I will say, this is extremely light on the smut compared to her other books.

DNF @ 35% - This is oddly boring. I like Whitney G, but this book is just flat and not engaging. I wish she’d go back to writing grumpy pilots and lawyers with askew moral compasses. That’s where she shines.

Boring chic lit be boring.

Oh well, this was unexpectedly a jumbled mix of retellings. You, of course, got the Beauty and the Beast, a little Red Riding Hood and the wolf vibe, the magic mirror from Snow White, oh and Rumpelstiltskin showed his face too this one time. And that's only what I picked up.

It was an okay story actually. I didn't quite bond with any characters in this one. Albeit the fascinating twist on the retelling. It all tasted kinda bland. The chemistry wasn't as palpable and it was pretty boring for me to read. Just eh.

Takhle mi zkazit Krásku a zvíře… 😣

A teď k textu?

Whitney G jako autorku mám ráda. 😍 Její loňské Rozhodně ne on bylo taky fajn (4 ⭐️). ✈️

Headlines:
Irreverant retelling
Cameos from many fairytales

The Other Belle starts with a semi-familiar stance on Beauty and the Beast but with some differences. As this story rolled out, it combined and included a number of other fairytales, brief glances of characters outside of this known world. Belle was an abused member of her family but she was also a snarky character with a valid chip on her shoulder.

Gaston was very hot and cold in his behaviour, sometimes noble and caring but often ignorant and dismissive. He and Belle were a strange but sometimes worthy pairing.

I had problems with the pacing and flow of this story. The chapters were short, which is a win, but they sometimes ended abruptly and the next chapter didn't always seem logically placed to me. That interrupted my investment in the storyline and the characters.

I believed the chemistry between Gaston and Belle but when it came to the heat, it didn't work for me sadly.

Žije so svojím otcom a sestrou, ktorí sa k nej správajú kruto a útek nachádza v kníhkupectve kde si zanecháva odkazy v knihách so záhadným a jediným priateľom. Gabriel je typický chladný morálne sivý hrdina a samozrejme hľadá lásku na prelomenie kliatby. Užila som si každý jeden okamih kedy prišiel na scénu a rastúce napätie medzi ním a Belle bolo super. Jedinou chybičkou boli na môj vkus urýchlené spicy scény, ale stále vedeli pekne okoreniť dej. Naozaj výborné a originálne prerozprávanie.

3.5 stars!!! This was a different take on the Beauty & the Beast movie w/ some twists & turns! The heroine, Belle, was a very strong woman and I loved that!! I also loved the build up to her and the Beast’s relationship! The mention of the other fairy tales throughout the story was great…had me smiling while reading! This is a quick, cute read with some sadness & humor mixed in! It will be a favorite for fans of fairy tales!

This book got my attention because of its blurb and to be completely honest, I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did.

I really enjoyed how the author used the Beauty and the Beast story and gave it a little twist.

Belle and Gabriel were really good together and their story ended up making me curious to read more.

Overall this was a good story and I can't wait to read more from this author.

„Ta druga Bella” to retelling „Pięknej i Bestii”.

Niektóre jej historie wywarły na mnie ogromne wrażenie, a inne.. no cóż.
