Now savage and brutal orcs rule our scorched world. All us humans can do is serve our green-skinned masters with our hands and with our bodies.
I'm one of the 'lucky' ones for I get to work in the fields, breaking my back to feed the ravenous orc hordes while my people go hungry. No orc has claimed me. Yet.
Until I try to steal some grain to feed my sick grandma and I'm caught red-handed by my worst nightmare.
Chieftain Grimdar of Arogh-Bul.
Better known as Grimdar the Savage.
His name is known throughout all of Attis. Everyone fears him. I think I'm dead meat, but no. The hideous imposing tower of green muscle and deep scars isn't going to kill me for my crimes. It's much worse.
At first I thought this was just gonna be a smutty read about an orc kidnapping an innocent human girl to breed her—and it was totally that, but there was also some plot buried in the smut and even some action.
Safe. Hero’s past is mentioned once but it isn’t repeated. Heroine is a virgin and belongs only to the hero, giving him the gift of all her firsts. No others, no sharing, no cheating or abuse of any kind. HEA with epilogue
Working as a slave is all that’s left for humans on the planet. Years ago monsters from other worlds turned up and changed everything including the hierarchy. Heroine Quins has heard all about the horrible beasts roaming the planet and coming face to face with such a monster is not something she’s planning to do. Then again a rash decision leads her to saving the life of a fellow villager and becoming a breeder for the Orc clan leader. At first Grimdar really is the Savage he’s known for but slowly the big oaf shows his softer side. The connection between the two flares bright at first contact but their love does take some time. Grimdar was a real teddy bear and I enjoyed his character. He was gruff and demanding but always had her best interests in mind. Quins was often an annoyingly stupid heroine and made the worst decisions causing more danger and drama than was necessary. The story is fairly short but it still builds a vivid world and sets the strange for a series I’m looking forward to reading about. Orcs are not the only ‘monsters’ out there and I’m curious if each book will be simply Orc romances or will branch out….
I always get so excited whenever I come across a fantasy romance novella because I'm obsessed with anything fantasy related, but sometimes don't want the commitment of starting something that requires energy to read 😭.
So this was such a fun book to find. I was actually really pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the setting/ plot side of the story; it was actually really interesting. Eventhough it was simple, I really liked how it was described.
The only thing that didn't work for me in this was the smut, and mainly the 'dirty talk' 😭 I just couldn't get behind it lmao.
That aside, I really enjoyed this book, and definitely want to check out more by this author!
The storyline was interesting enough to have me read this book in one sitting, and the characters were entertaining, but the authors descriptive sex scenes were too cringe worthy for my liking, and that is what turned me off this story
But there are gaps in the story which really need expanding. I even reread the first few chapters thinking it has somehow skipped ahead and I’d missed a chapter or two. - He takes her from her village and all humans know of Orcs is they use humans for breeders or slaves, humans aren’t treated well. she should be completely terrified by him, but the chapter after him taking her she is bent over accepting a spanking and loving it. - It also says she was thin and bony (especially since food was rationed for humans and she was giving it away to her grandmother) and the next minute he’s admiring her rounded back side 🤷🏼♀️ - He also hints at her being his bride not just a breeder but never explained it to her or that fact that humans aren’t treated as bad as the rumours state. She just gets straight to it and is completely ok with him.
Just little things like this bug you are you read it. I am all for a fast pace but there are too many gaps to fully enjoy it as you focus on what’s missing and what doesn’t make sense.
Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2022 I loved this book and all the characters involved and how one human female and one savage Orc can bring everyone together and stop war between them all. Grimdar the savage orc is the chieftain of Arogh-Bul and is fair and just leader but to the humans he is cruel and takes all the crops with very little left to feed them all. It’s time for the Orc’s to collect the grain they produce and usually us females stay inside so they don’t take us like all cruel orc’s do. But with the death of her parents by Trolls is how Quinn came to be and was saved as a baby by Lenie (who she calls her grand mother) who has raised her as her own and with her grandmother being sick and starving as well as everyone else so she steals some and now she cannot hold back any longer and goes to confront the Orc who is now here to take there grain and is not happy about how much there is and is yelling at Elder Canus who runs the village and now Grimdar is shocked by the sexy human female who is accusing him of starving her people and decides to let them keep the grain if she agrees to go with him and she agrees to help her people as long as Nora looks after her grandmother and then they leave and are heading to the city of Zorn for a meeting with all the other Orc’s and the Regent of Zorn Mephisto who is the devil and treats his people like slaves while he lives like a king in his palace. Now the devil wants her and will do everything he can to take her from Grimdar. There is a lot more to this book that keeps you on your toes the whole way through and right up till the very end. I recommend this book as a must read.
The characters, overall plot and dialogue are all done well. The tone could have used some work and in general it seemed a bit underdeveloped. There were some spots where the plot seemed immature, underdeveloped, and unrealistic. If these are descendants of modern humans then how is she going two weeks without food but making several hours of sex after almost being r*ped her first priority when being rescued? She wants to save her starving grandmother figure who when she last saw her, she couldn’t lift her own head from weakness due to the starvation but he forbids her to go and distracts her from the argument about her dying grandmother successfully with sex? There are also some cringing word choices and poor turns of phrases. I think some workshopping with a beta reader or sending this through an editor would have elevated it. It has all the elements to be a great book, its just missing the mark.
Overall, I liked the book. But the hero was not a "savage orc". She volunteers to be his "breeder" after she steals some grain from the orc's shipment and they are about to kill the leader of her village.
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
So he threatens to spank her a lot. And touches her sometimes. But he never had intercourse with her. He keeps telling her he has to prepare her for his genitals.
She tries to escape and ends up kidnapped by invading orcs who take her to the wizard of another city. Hero rescues her. They have sex (finally, almost at the end of the book) and he marries her. The end.
So for this book it started out strong and then about halfway it felt rushed. It was like a high schooler wrote the second half. The heroine didnt put up any fight with the hero. Also for a virgin she most definitely didnt sound or act as one. The hero was strong but then it was like he was submissive. The love scenes were all rushed but idk it just didnt hit like i thought it would.
Wow! So much 🥵 heat. But not just that, a great heroine with a little attitude. The hero of course is beyond words. I really love this book. I like me books really 😈. This book has naughty, spunky, sassy characters. It kept me interested really well. Very enjoyable can’t wait to read the next. Thanks Luna
Quins is quite a woman. She takes care of her elderly grandmother and gets caught stealing as they have very little to eat. She is taken by Grim far to pay for her mishap. He falls for her and decides to take her to be his bride. More has to happen before that takes place. Great read and ending.
DNF @ 25%. The heroine is captured by these Orcs who - she believes - are mass-murdering, enslaving, disgusting monsters. But literally a chapter later, she's happily accepting a make-out-and-spanking session by the leader? Oh, wait, he can't be a monster! He's hot! Silly me.
This book was pretty straightforward and easy to read. I like that the Orcs were nice but I felt a little excitement was missing. All in all it was decent, so I'll recommend.
There wasn’t anything overly orcish about them except that they are green. I didn’t feel any true orc culture coming through the pages. Honestly, it could have been any species so the story was cookie cutter in that regard.
Unfortunately this read as predictable, rushed and it's in need of editing. Incorrect words used throughout. It was irritating, I could probably have overlooked it....maybe....if there were a more decent plot/story. I won't be reading the next book.
Grimdar was made to lead and be a great partner. Quins is smart, feisty and funny, but I do agree Grimdar, she can be stupid. She does have a heart of gold though. I need to read the next book to see what happens to Nora.
I love an orc story but this one was tough to get into. I DNF about 60 pages in. There was no build up…just right to accepting the orc as a lover but then calling him baby. It wasn’t for me.
Quins is taking care of her granny who is old and sick and starving. The whole village is. Grimdar is the Orc in charge and it's his fault! Or is it? Enjoy
I enjoyed this book so much. I love how the Orc and human learn about each other and love grows. The steamy scenes left me needing a cold shower. Thank you!
Sexy times abound once she meets her orc. Lots of steamy sex scenes, but with an amazing storyline. A lot going on and will be continuing in the next book. At least one known villain at this point.
Nope sorry but it wasn't my jam at all. And the prose was just weird to me + it just lacked a level of continuity in the story. I get that it is only a novella but the story just didn't have this rhythm to it that made it interesting. And honestly, their interactions were just so damn cheesy. Thank goodness it was only a novella.
