Damn.. I just want to say that A. L. Knorr’s books are so so so underrated because wym this book isn’t more popular? I’m just floored by the fact that the storytelling and world-building just got better as the books progressed😭. I thought book 1 with Targa was good but this one was somehow even better?? As usual the author’s creativity and details has captured my interest because wow. It’s just that good!
While you technically can read this book right after Born of Water, when going according to the order, the book appears to occur after the Elemental Origins.
Targa MacAuley, who is a siren and a powerful water elemental, has returned to Europe with her mother Mira, to take up her place as the Heir of the Novak Family and be with her love, Antoni. Just when things seem to finally wind down towards the happy ever after she had always longed for, she finds herself powerless against an ancient curse that threatens to rip her apart from her beloved mother and a different danger has Antoni’s life on stake.
If you scroll back to read my previous review for the book 1 Born of Water, I have mentioned how there were a few plot holes and things left unanswered, and guess what? almost all of them are answered in this book🥰. Also the plot twist?!?!?
UGHH I just want to say I am in love and I recommend you guys to check this series out!
4💫 Some plot twist were a bit predictable but I still enjoyed the book immensely. I fell in love with the elementals series and I absolutely loved Targa's story so I am really happy to see how the next book will play out.
I haven't read the elemental series in over a year but I remember really enjoying it. This book was a nice surprise and continuation from that series! I adore Targa so much. She's so smart and has been through so much. She finally gets a place where she feels like she belongs and it all starts to go wrong. The plot holes that happened in Born of Water were answered here or most of them were. I thought this book was going to be predictable, but it had so many twists and turns. I cant wait to dive into book 2.
Targa is a siren and a water elemental, she is very powerful and she has just inherited a company from someone who treated her as his next of kin. She and Mira her mother, leave Canada and travel to Poland to be close to the company, the manor they also inherited and the rest of the benefits which came with this inheritance, however Targa was looking forward to moving because Antoni, her boyfriend lived there. She loved him with all her heart but feared to let him know what she really was, so their relationship was built on one massive lie. But lies have a way of surfacing one way or another and hers came to light in the scariest of ways and on a massive adventure in which they both nearly lost their lives. When a triton had turned up at her house trying to steal a pendant everyone seemed to be after suddenly, Targa discovers more than she ever imagined. He turned her life on it's head so to speak and life could never go back to what it was after certain things came to light. I love the suspense in this thrilling magical siren adventure and I love the fact that we got to meet Georgjie from the other series, the other elemental!
I enjoyed this book a lot. I read the Elemental Series first but I liked Targa's story for the mermaid lore. In this book, Targa and her mother Mira return to Poland to begin their life there. However, Mira's need for the sea worsens quickly. Finally, Targa takes her to the sea and let's her go. Targa attempts to continue her new schedule but misses her mother dearly. I loved that Georjayna visited and wished Saxony had been there too... But I digress... While Georjayna is visiting, the house is broken into. Georjayna uses her magic to see the person. The same day, a necklace is stolen from the Sybellan's display at the museum. Naturally the ladies check this scene too and realize that it was stolen by someone Targa knew. When Emun shows up and reveals that he is still alive and a Triton, it throws things all into a mess. Antoni is kidnapped & Emun and Targa have to go save the day. The last half of the book went really quickly. I look forward to the next book.
A.L. Knorr is one of my favourite authors and I always give honest reviews on her books that I have read. That said, it has been a while since I have read one, it’s been a while since I read any book. I was not disappointed. Of the elemental series Targa was always my favourite. I read Born of Water years ago and always wanted to know more, and I got it now. A perfect follow on from Born of Water, although I would recommend any reader reads that first. At one point I envisioned this story was going to take a very dark twist, but thankfully that was skilfully diverted and the storyline turned out amazing. The thing that I like about A.L. Knorr’s writing is that, this book as with her others, is part of a series, but there are no unanswered questions at the conclusion, it can be read as a standalone if you so desire.
Under the sea lie the secrets of her past… and a deadly threat to her future. Targa fears the truth will lose her the man she loves. As she returns to Poland to reunite with Antoni, she wishes she could share her mermaid secrets without betraying her kind. But when a magical stone goes missing from the local museum, the siren may have to choose between protecting her loved ones and treason. As Targa tracks the stolen gem, she discovers a sinister plot centuries in the making. And the power the thieves seek could leave both the land and the sea utterly devastated. Can Targa protect the secrets of her people, or will her attempt at a double life take everything she loves away?
What a beautiful start to a new series. So much intrigue. So many surprising twists from the standard mermaid stories, but I’m not going to mention any spoilers. Targa's story continues, as heiress to the Polish mansion and fortune. In this installment of Targa's journey there are certainly a few twists. You think you've figured out where the story is going and then bam! Surprise. Can't wait to see what happens next! Highly Recommend!
I loved A.L.Knorr’s Elemental Origins series and went into literary withdrawal when it ended. No surprise then that I was overjoyed to find that the author has come out with a new series, The Siren's Curse, that takes off from that series. Salt & Stone is the first book in that series. It’s great fun to follow its leads Targa and Antoni as the author puts them through their adventure in this well written story with its strong plot and story arc beginnings. For maximum enjoyment of this new series, the Elemental Origins series should be read first. It’s not an absolute need, however, though at minimum I think reading at least Born of Water (and really both that and The Elementals) is (are) really essential as a precursor. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
And so many unanswered questions! I can't wait for book the next book! If you have not read the Elementals Origins series (Born of Water, Targa's story, is the first of these), then you are missing out. However one can still enjoy this book on its own separate from the rest. (You will have considerably more questions though!) Targa and her mother, Mira, are unique and captivating characters who are breaking the mold for all of mer and human kind. Targa is a compelling character in her own right, someone anyone can be inspired by. I don't want to give any secrets away about this book so just trust me, this is a captivating series. I know- I read the whole book in the past 12 hours, regardless of the fact that I was at work most of that time, then came home to my children for dinner, chores, homework and several hours of extra curricular activities I help manage....
I was very happy to get back to my old friend, Targa. It’s been awhile and this book was just the thing to renew my acquaintance with her. Ms Knorr writes her so well, I could relate with her in many ways. So much is happening in this book. So many surprises kept me riveted to the pages. Targa feels as if she is out of her element with her inheritance but manages to puts first things first to get through it all. She struggles with telling Antoni about what she is and risk losing him or not telling him and risk losing him. I so enjoyed the underwater experience she had albeit mysterious and dangerous. It was somewhere between harrowing and breathless. I can honestly say that any reader who has read this author’s previous books of The Elementals, i.e., Born of Water, or Mira’s Return, would most likely enjoy reading this book just as much as I did. Highly recommended.
A.L. Knorr has an amazing gift for telling stories and continuing the stories without the sequels falling flat. It is truly a gift to be able to work in the details right from the beginning that really make the later book in the series/world so fascinating and enjoyable. Even though this is book 1 of this series, I had already read all of the Elemental books and novellas. I definitely think reading previous series would increase understanding for this book- but I suggest at least reading Born of Water that introduces Targa and Mira. Eagerly awaiting book 2. I never really anticipate the twists and turns the story might take and I really enjoy that it is not so predictable.
What a story, alot of adventure and mystery coming to light. We learned a lot in this book, and now of course so many more questions to be answered. I think the author did a very good job and at painting the whole picture for us and setting the ground work to learn about Mira's story. I don't want to give any spoilers, so sorry if my review seems a little vague. I was happy that Georji appeared in the story - still hoping she has her own spinoff. There were a few grammatical errors but not too terrible. I wanted to give this a 4.5 but there wasn't an option so a 4 it is. The prologue was too much with not enough information, a very huge cliffhanger and a little confusing so I can't wait to delve into the next story.
This is the first book in the spin off to the elemental books. This set of books follow targa and mira. They are mermaids of the sea. Targa has inherited the novak enterprise and has moved to Poland to run the business and be with her one antoni. However there are always mishaps as there wouldn't be a book. Targa is introduced to a world not even her mother knew existed and there is an incredible twist. She learns that not all myths and. Legends are just speculation and this is hard to come comprehend I am really looking forward to reading the next installment My favourite character is antoni his. Love for targa seems real My least favourite character is Lydia I thinl there are many things that she could have done differently
This novel is a beautiful beginning for this new series. If you thought the characters were well established in the Elemental Origins series, you're gravely mistaken, there are more to know about them.
I can say I have now fallen in loved with the Elementals universe of A.L. Knorr. There are so much more to it than what we've seen in the Elemental Origins.
This novel and series is more focused, personal. It sets a high bar for this series and all the rest of the post-Origins series to come. I am sure, A.L. Knorr will keep breaking that and surprise us.
Salt & Stone: A Mermaid Fantasy (The Siren's Curse Book 1)
Can these books 📚 get any better….OMG, LOVE 💕 THEM…..love Targa, heartbroken 💔 over Mira, love Antoni and this adventure keeps getting better and better….Emun… are they related??? This series can definitely be read without reading the Elemental’s series, but reading 📖 that series puts everything all together.. I couldn't put it down it’s after 12 am and I have work early in the morning but, I am eager to start the next. Boy I wish I could be a supernatural would love to be a mermaid...🧜 Definitely recommend this book I just love this author Ms Knorr !!!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Her elemental series was both wide ranging and riveting, bringing together a group of friends who faced unexpected dangers when all they wanted to do was finish school. I must admit though, that of all the wonderful characters she introduced, Targa, spoke to me as none of the others did. So as you might imagine I was delighted to read Targa and Mira's story renewed as they embark on their new life in Poland. I was at times surprised, then later amazed as this intriguing story unfolded and cannot help but strongly recommend this book to other readers.
Oh boy! What can l say? Abby just keeps coming up with such wonderful surprises. I thought l had an idea as the story progressed, what may eventuate but she blew my mind with a beautiful and wonderous ending! Now l find myself full of eager questions about the newly revealed characters. Since reading that last sentence I have been wandering around my house in a daze just rehashing the last few pages trying to wring more secrets out, trying to connect Miras past to it all. I cannot recomend this series enough. 🤓💥💥💥💥💥
Best to date! I loved this book. Saltford destroyed and all the girls scattered, 'Salt and Stone' follows Targa and Mira to Poland. Targa and Antoni reunite, and Mira becomes increasingly distant as the ocean tugs at her siren soul. Many twists, sleuthing (stolen gem - the "stone" in the title), new information about merfolk - new even to our mermaid protagonists, and even some Greek mythology. And what a completely unanticipated (SURPRISE!) ending. To say I didn't see *that* coming is an understatement. So many unanswered questions! I'm starving for the next book!
I read the entire elemental series and this spin-off in 3 days. I absolutely love the world and the voice the author speaks with. This book I think was the best one, I loved Targa from book one, but I didn't understand Mira, but after I read her books I fell in love with her even more. Salt & Stone showed the best of both worlds featuring both and really showed there love for each other and how far they would go for the other. The twist at the end left me craving the second next book. I would recommend everyone to read this book.
Woooow. It’s always cool when something is hinted at and constantly questioned only to finally be answered. Basically this book was about Teges trying to start a new life while still having to tie up an impeding one that she didn’t really wanna deal with. All while slowly learning of yet another adventure to be had. I liked this a lot so it didn’t feel like not much happened. The writing can be simple but it has its own appeal and charm. It took me a while to get back to this author but I’m glad I did.
Good book, well-written, error free (grammar) which is a joy, but the story is slow.
Even that’s okay, but I don’t have a strong emotional connection to the main characters, which I’d have expected after reading two books. The FMC and her beau don’t have much chemistry. Given that she’s making big decisions based on her love for him, I’d like for that connection to be stronger.
That said, the storyline itself is great and unique. I can see why people enjoy it, but I won’t be reading another book in this series.
Wow. How is this series not talked about more often? It’s YA too which is absolutely shocking. The writing is beautiful and so sophisticated. The story or Targa and her struggles are really well fleshed out. There is a lot of conversation in grief, power struggle and acceptance. Yes, there are some times in this book where you know it’s YA but the main core story is so wonderfully done. The war between mermaids and sirens is a very cool take and something I’ve ever seen done before.
A.L. Knorr continues the story of Targa, the siren and water elemental introduced in Born of Water. As Targa moves to Poland and begins her metaphorical transition to adulthood, Knorr weaves a tale that challenges both the human and fantastical elements of our heroine. A plot full of twists and turns engages the reader throughout while impressing them with with the depth and breadth of her universe. A series to go to top of your TBR pile.
This book was awesome! Loved it, and I’m so glad the story has grown like it has. The Elementals’ stories were great and I was sad when they were over so the continuation of Targa’s story is greater than the originals. I feel more connected to the characters now and even more invested in their stories and futures. The extra lore and development of other underworld civilizations is a lot of fun. I cannot wait until the next book!
Salt and Stone is a very well written story. I think it is my new favorite in this series. It has a good amount of mystery and intrigue. Whenever I thought I had something figured out I was surprised with the real answer. I loved diving back into Targa and Mira’s world again. Their journey to discover secrets long forgotten was a bit emotional. I definitely shedded a few tears. The ending left me smiling but also super curious. I can’t wait to hear more of Mira’s tale.
I received this book for free and I am giving my honest and voluntary review of it.
After completing the "Elemental Origins" series my first pick for what to read next was the first book in Targa's story, Salt & Stone. Targa was one of my favorite characters from the original story so I was very much looking forward to this book and it didn't disappoint. All your favorite characters from Born of water are back with new favorites added and many surprises and twists as well!
I went from Targa's story in Born of Water to this book because I wanted to keep reading about Targa. I was not disappointed with this twisty tale! I should have read the books in preceding order (the elemental ones to get the other girls' stories), but I feel like the storyline in this book was well written to not get lost.
I cried more than once while reading this and I loved it so much. I can't wait to read the others!
Really enjoyed this book. Without giving away spoilers I can say that is had a few great surprises and things I didn’t really seeing coming. To me that’s what makes a good story, when I can’t already predict what will happen. I can’t wait to see what else Poland has in store for Targa and Mira!
I clearly loved this book or I would never have given it a rating of 5 stars. Once I started reading I could not pull myself away from doing so. I got in trouble at work for reading while I was suppose to be working. The only downside is that it finished way too fast. I NEED more. I will be impatiently waiting for Salt & Sovereign.
