Ah I don’t know if I exactly vibe with this story. The art style is gorgeous yes, but I’m finding myself bored about eighty percent of the time while reading. I might come back to it once it’s finished, but we’ll see.

Thank you to NetGalley and Yen Press for providing me with an eARC of this manhwa, set to be released in May 2025. Below are my honest thoughts on The Villainess is a Marionette, Volume 1:

Right off the bat, this manhwa reminded me of The Villainess Needs Her Tyrant, which I am also currently reading and absolutely loving. The premise of a female lead who dies—whether by accident or through someone else’s schemes—only to be reborn into the past and given a chance to rewrite her fate is a trope I personally adore. There’s something so satisfying about watching a heroine take control of her destiny and outmaneuver those who previously wronged her.

Visually, the art style is stunning! The character designs are elegant and expressive, perfectly complementing the fantasy setting. The detailed backgrounds and vibrant color palettes make every panel feel immersive. However, while the artwork captivated me, the storyline itself felt familiar, following a path I’ve seen in many similar series. That said, I’m hopeful that the second volume will bring more unique developments to distinguish this title from others in the genre.

Overall, while The Villainess is a Marionette didn’t completely blow me away in terms of originality, I still found it enjoyable. The gorgeous illustrations and the ever-compelling villainess trope make it a solid read, and I would love to grab a final copy once it’s officially released. I’m eager to see how the story unfolds in future volumes!

This is all things I’ve read before. So I won’t be able to give my authentic review but. I really like this. I love strong powerful women who are smart and devious. I love plots where everything works out for the mc and they seem like a genius mastermind. I don’t know how I feel about the love story. As a person who suffers from germaphobia (the main male character doesn’t like people touching him or getting to close to him) it upsets me how easily he gets over it. Especially with a person he previously had problems with. He is just like “oh and now I feel fine”. It’s not like. I don’t know the. Quick change of it annoys me. In my own experience. Even with people I feel very safe with. I still struggle with touching people and not feeling the need to immediately wash my hands or feel dirty. There was only ever one person (not person. But dog. But still the sentiment remains only one entity) that I felt completely safe with. And it was my dog Winston. He was the closest to me and he was my other half. I’m not comparing traumas. But I just don’t like when medical or mental conditions are brushed aside in the name of plot. Augh whatever I can’t explain it my head hurts. This is good I’ve heard the comic ending is bad and I’m scared.

The art style is great, the characters are well... Interesting and the politics is a good point. The thing with this manhwa is the confusion. You get easily lost and trying to understand what in the freak is happening.

Also, Cayena is a baddass mc, but her plans?? What in the world are you planning girl, suicide? Her plans are all so confusing and stuff, and you stay staring at the same screen for atleast 8 min to try to understand what is she planning.

Therefore, is not one of the best manhwas out there, but for one of my first reads i devoured this one quickly.

(Also, Rafael the man you are. And a crazy brother for his sister? Weird and disgusting? Yes. But why make Rezef hot? Ughhhh)

Ok I need the continuation of this story I never thought this plot twist would happen, but its getting interesting as the story goes further and i love that despite her being a bit of a complex character and she’s trying to keep her shit together she does still of course show a moment of weakness.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this is craaaazy! But yes I need more as the story progresses I am always at the edge of my seat I mean I am not a fan of the other guy, but Idk dude. What is gonna happen 🙃 I just need to know how this ends.

This was not what I expected it to be, but I'm pleasantly surprised. Isekai manwha/webtoons are very popular, especially ones with "Villainess" main characters, so I thought this would be a repeat of a very familiar formula. What I found instead was a main character that was playing mental chess while the people around her were playing checkers. Rather than focusing on romancing the very handsome supposed love interest, Kayena is thinking about her survival and the politics of the relationships she has with her family. This is super interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Very satisfying, with lots of twists and turns.

Kayena Hill, is the imperial princess and a villainess in a novel. She has already died twice and has now been reborn. This time she is determined to live and to subvert all the scheming around her so that she can have the life she truly wants, free from the schemes of court.

And so this time she becomes the puppeteer and forges the way for her future. This is a great read with lots of intrigue and with characters who have depth. I enjoyed reading this and definitely want to read the future volumes. Very satisfying with good artwork.

The manhwa might have a lot of loopholes, but I love the female lead's character. She uses that information to her advantage since she already knows what happened in the story, as she was Isekaid.
I was excited that the manhwa was back for its second season, but I ended up disappointed. The art is still beautiful but it seems off. I also feel like the storyline became messy as well that I am no longer sure if I will continue this manhwa again once it comes back from its hiatus.

I read this, my e-reader tells me I did, and the art is lovely. But I, for the life of me, can't remember a single thing about it. So I didn't hate it enough to leave an impression. Nor did I like it enough to remember it.

This series started off pretty slow and i thought it was going to be just another fluff read through that was entertaining because I like the genre, then it turned into this girl can never have a good moment or catch a break, very thrilling and fun read
