“I liked staying close to you, Hermione. That shouldn’t come as a surprise.” ----------------------- A prequel, companion, and sequel to "The Bodyguard," all from Harry's point of view. [c/w for battle scenes, both real and implied violence, graphic injuries, and serious danger] [featuring illustrations by @Ada_Lovelaced]
If you haven’t literally juuuust finished the bodyguard, this won’t really translate well. It’s not it’s own fic. At all. It’s got legit snippets of story with no reference to when or where or who. If it at least started with some kind of reference, chapters or something, then it might make more sense. But in several sections its just two people, one being Harry, the other being unidentified until the dialogue progresses well into several paragraphs when you find out who he is talking to. I can’t read like that. I need to know who I’m imagining in the scene. I wish I could have enjoyed this more. I genuinely loved bodyguard.
This was way more enjoyable but also heartbreaking than the original, but I am also a sucker for details. I am glad this fic provided Harry's side and context to some of the events we see from Hermione's POV in the original. This is def more focused on the before and the after of the events of The Bodyguard, but I think a blended read is the best practice to get a whole picture. Teddy did save this fic in so so many ways.

As soon as I finished The Bodyguard, I just knew I had to immediately read this second part.
The Minister focuses on Harry's perspective of The Minister, just as The Bodyguard focuses on Hermione's point of view. I do have to say that although I enjoyed Hermione's side, with Harry we see a lot more of his personal side, with more flashbacks and a lot more insight on his past and present outside of being "Head of Aurors".
The plot is still the same, about the attempt on Hermione's life, BUT with a focus on Harry's personal life. He adopted Teddy, and that's something that's just so cute to see. We also see his focus on his mental health after the war and how therapy has helped him even to this day. Plus, he loves to cook. Any mention of any dish he prepared just left me hungry.
Additionally, this part has some fanart, both cute and spicy hahaha it was a nice detail and I don't recall if I mentioned it in The Bodyguard review, but it is established that neither Harry nor Hermione are white. The art reflects this and it felt pretty spot on on how the author describes them.
