One loser, one talking cockroach, and one karate-chopping bombshell stand between YOU and soul-crushing, world-destroying evil.
Or not? A mysterious red door has appeared inside 24/7 Demon Mart, but when Lloyd opens it and steps in, nothing happens. Nothing bad, at least. He finds a lost room filled with treasures so good, so perfect, it seems like the Demon Mart crew's wishes have all come true.
Kevin finds the solution to his mid-afterlife crisis and his roommate problems. Faust finds a renewed interest in the carnal delights of earth. Lloyd, dead tired from fighting off angry poltergeists, finally gets the one thing he so desperately desires: A nap. DeeDee? Well, she's just angry. Really, really angry.
But it's fine—totally fine—until the protection spells at Doc's pawnshop begin to unravel. And the Demon Mart gang becomes so consumed by their own appetites and desires, they don't even notice the dark force awakening beneath them, a force so ancient and evil it could rip the world to shreds.
If humanity is to have any hope at all, the graveyard shift crew will have to battle their inner demons and sacrifice everything they want the most. Will they triumph? Or will the evil that lurks behind the red door rip them—and the world—apart?

Lloyd is once again in the middle of it when he opens the red door and the fun begins. I love 💘 this series with it's non-stop action, great characters, and fun.
I would highly recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of fantasy world 🌎 adventure thriller novels 👍🔰. 2024 👒😈🏰
Hey all! Just a quick heads up. The audiobook edition of (Re) Possessed is coming to Audible on Sept. 6, 2022. It is narrated by the one and only Todd Haberkorn and includes the novelette "Kevin vs the Mothman."
Like omg, Lloyd has finally progressed, not as much as I wanted, but still progress.
In this one, we have the night crew hurting Doc's feelings and battling the 7 deadly sins.
As always, there are many over-the-top things that go on and Lloyd's growth shined through it all. I have no idea how these stories suck me in, but they do.
Kevin vs The Mothman
I don't want to spoil this short story, but come on, an eldritch terror with gas??? Everyone needs to read it.
The narration by Todd Haberkorn was awesome as always, I mean anyone that can make a cockroach sound tough has talent.
Lloyd, DeeDee, and the rest of the crew at the 24 hour Demon Mart are back for another adventure, but all isn’t well after the last novel. The Seven Deadly Sins are about to be released again so they can try to bring the Lord of Chaos back to takeover the world. Naturally, the crew of the Demon Mart are all that stand in the way of the big seven, but they are also the victims of these sins which brings us to the heart of one of Guay’s most interesting novels. It’s a book that couldn’t have worked without all the previous novels establishing these characters. The reader knows their strengths and weaknesses and each time one of the deadly sins possessed someone, it made perfect sense. (I don’t think that’s a spoiler. I never had any doubt what was happening even if Lloyd was very slow on the uptake, but then, he never has been very smart.)
So Lloyd, unsurprisingly, is possessed by Sloth and spends the book trying to overcome his own intense laziness to save the day. This felt a little overlong in the beginning, but actually was handled pretty well by Guay. Lloyd has been putting off for tomorrow everything he could get away with since the beginning of the series, and this is the book that that habit comes back to bite him and I loved watching him struggle with his natural inclinations so he could try and save the day. But the best part was when he had to use what he had learned about his friends to save them, in doing so undergoing a spurt of truly touching character growth.
This was another fun one with the set up for another disaster offered in the last pages.
5 deadly stars. Shame we can't put it down for 7 here (trust me on this, ok?) but I'll cover what purgatorially (re)possessed pepperonis that I can as such.
Friends, I have discovered the "Code", with a capital C - and I should probably capitalize the The as well (wasn't that a band?). About what you ask (because I didn't say yet)? The Code of "24/7". Yeppers, the numberical (sicco) part of the titles of the plethora (count 'em!) of books the Queen of Sinfully Funny Horror Comedy, namely, one D.M.Guay has brought us over the years.
The evil must stay in this prison, or the world as we know it will end. Plus, he's a real {HELLO}head.
So here goes: 24 sentences in - you're hooked. Can barely look away, even if a naked owl dude with his dingy pointed right at you shows up (that's a direct quote btw, because he does. And has.). 7 pages in - just give up, your soul belongs to the book now. Because it's just that good! And it may be sentient, too. Just to be sure, reach in there and see if you don't feel something akin to a hot tube that feels like lukewarm spaghetti. If yes, you're on the right track! If no, you probably need to make sure you still have an arm. But be prepared as there will definitely be multi-hued barfing (lots and lots of it) involved and probably some more naughty words, too. And may the gods have mercy on your synthetic soul if you're a sex doll that just happens to resemble someone's mom…
Morty moseyed up to me with his pants around his ankles, {HELLO} deep in a jar of peanut butter. Literally.
I promise you this is not mere hyperbole (or even normal, non-hyper, um, bole), but these books just get better and better with each bizarre edition. And to be frankly honest - which would have helped our crew out a lot btw - I can't get enough, starting way back when with the first in the series, namely, "The Graveyard Shift" and then on through each full-length and/or novella-length treat since! OH I have to mention the newsletter and Facebook Fan pages, too (otherwise I won't qualify for the coupons). It's all just so much fun and goes so far to feed the hunger that my dark soul needs in order to destro ... um, I mean, yeah, great for fans of all ages!
Death. Of course. It always had to be death. Why couldn't the wages of sin be something else, like ice cream?
But do not mistake my gleeful gleefulness for fan-boyish naiveté! Because, if anything, I will remember "Re(Possessed)" as the story when not only the characters finally started to grow up but also how the series really took on a tone of a much more serious nature! To be frank (or steve, your call), this latest chapter shows that Guay has really honed her craft - including the typey typey bits as well as from a sheer inventiveness point of view. This book truly finds that perfect balance between the trifecta of top-notch character development, an incredibly complex and entertaining plot, hilarity that somehow fit in perfectly with a good dollop of what can only be considered actual horror and even some very, very naughty bits that pop up (PUN!!) quite often. I know that's more than three things, but is "quadfecta" a word? If it is, it sounds more like a dating site for otherworldly weirdos (with apologies to Shagging Shoggoths, HornyGeddon, HadesHotties and of course SINder!).
Free labor and interns. That's how you hit the big leagues. That's how you reach build-a-{HELLO}-shaped-rocket-and-go-to-space level success!
Seriously though, Guay really knocks this one out of the ballpark. I don't know how she keeps building on the lore of this group, as quite honestly, if you haven't been with the program since page 1, you'll miss some bits (oh Caroline, how I love the abuse you are dealt... because yes, that's an ex's name... and personality as well, come to think about it...). But it's oh-so-worth-it and I know that I will one day sooner rather than later go through the entire run again. So believe me when I say, this is not only a fantastic book but one that you will tell your f(r)iends about so they read it, too!
I had never hugged a fat cockroach in a blond mullet wig and a leopard print thong, who was covered in vomit, so hard or so long in my entire life.
And my thanks as well to the author for that fantastic epilogue. I'm sorry we've shared far too many things in the past years - I'll only salute you publicly as a fellow thyroid-defective struggler as the rest, well, sucks - but I'm proud of you for not only making it through these times but with what seems to be flying colors, too! Keep up the great work! And hurry up with Book 5 dammit!
Get an internet connection. Work from home. Trolling is the future, and the future is now.
When I first picked up The Graveyard Shift (Book 1 of the 24/7 Demon Mart series) I was extremely surprised to see how much I liked it. And now the 4th book in the series (plus the Demon Mart stories, and the Kevin short stories) is out, and the series just keeps getting better and better.
The comedy starts on the very first page, and once again my wife was looking at me weird as I was laughing at what I was reading. And the jokes just keep coming, at an almost breakneck pace. But there is also plenty of the scarier stuff as well, monsters and gore and blood and black demon vomit. Lots of black demon vomit. (And it is the vomit, not the demons, that is black).
Now a lot of times in comedy that is all you need. A new situation - simply have your characters find or cause a new problem, and then just let the hijinks ensue as they try to solve it. Add some tension by failing a few times before the big climax where the heroes win and then everything goes back to normal. (Wait, isn't that the plot of nearly every 80's cartoon?).
That doesn't happen here. Well, it does, but there is a LOT more to the story than just that. DM Guay makes us care about the characters, both so that we feel the danger they may be in, but also enjoy seeing them actually grow and change (though slowly, you can't turn Lloyd from a fat lazy slob into a brave hero overnight). But this still isn't the same guy we met in the first book, and he won't be the same one in the next book, because he learns (again slowly) and grows. Yes, it is a running gag that he refuses to read the employee handbook (which itself is growing into a more interesting character), though he at least wants to use it.
If you are a fan of Bruce Campbell then this entire series is right up your alley. And while the main series does center on Demon Mart and the portal to hell, the stories books deal with other threats with different origins. And then the Kevin short stories with the talking cockroach meeting various cryptids are a fun, quick snack to tide us over to the next book.
The more stories that Guay writes in this wonderful, funny, demon infested world only make me want even more and I cannot get enough of them. There are certain authors that you will buy anything new they put out, and they don't disappoint you. Right now DM Guay is at the top of that list for me. I just wish there were a way to make these books last longer - I don't want them to ever end.
DNR The seals on the room that is the paranormal beings prison put in place by Doc’s predecessor have come undone. Demons representing 7 deadly sins look to reincarnate and bring back their demon lord. Who better for representation of sloth than Lloyd? When it rains it pours.
Looking at the book through lens of societal critique on contemporary emasculation of male youth, book has some positives. Through trials of Hell, Lloyd puts in conscious effort to take on more responsibility. Becoming more aware and expressing the gratitude for the cultivated, blessed environment of his upbringing to his parents, as well as, how his life is made easier by the actions of those around him. Gratitude is a moral virtue and a boon to ones’ psychological well being.
While relationship dynamics between adult children and their parents can be difficult, what with elimination of coming of age rituals and systemic destruction of male spaces. People are a product of their nature and nurture, Lloyd being the way he was in the beginning of the book is nothing more than byproduct of being enabled to pursue short term gratification without a proper fatherly guidance. Good times create weak men.
Conclusion: 2/5. Listened on Audible bought for 1 credit. Narrated by: Todd Haberkorn. Regrettable impulse purchase, binge listening to first 5 books (1&2 included in plus catalogue, 3 through 5 bought individually). While subject of Lloyd and his cardinal sin of sloth was given some attention ultimately with the protagonist utilising the opportunity to address his shortcomings, at least in present. The relationship of the rest of the characters and their cardinal sins was lightly glossed over. For better exploration of cardinal sins anime (originally light novel) Re:Zero by Naggatsuki Tappei offers a more thorough writing. Lloyd is dumb - is the only conclusion for the repeated on the nose instances where conclusion is obvious to others nearby but missed by him. Not only the angel basically spelling most dangers outright but also adamant refusal to learn and better adapt to the situation. Terrible value for the length of the book - 2.15 $/hour ( 20.52 $ / 09 hrs 32 mins ).
Lloyd and the Demon Mart crew VS the 7 deadly sins.
While the idea sounds fun the execution... was not. The first two thirds of the book is spent shitting on Lloyd. It's obvious what the author was trying to do, exaggerate some characteristics and responses for the redemption arc later.
Here's the problem, it wasn't earned. In the first two books Lloyd created most of his own problems so it was fun to see him get shit on a little before he dusted himself off and fixed it. The past two books however that first part was skipped, Lloyd isn't doing anything UNTIL the finale. The majority of the book is in fact his internal monologue instead of things happening. Which makes it rather boring and the conclusion not very satisfying as it was more "others should stop shitting him so much" rather than "Lloyd learned a lesson and progressed".
At first I was going to give this a middle of the road 3 stars but then I realized, I took so many breaks listening to this that I read two books in between! I REALLY didn't want to come back to it so lowering it to 2 stars.
There is a bonus story here, Kevin vs The Mothman. This one was actually fun and went in a different direction than what I expected. That one is a 3.5/5 stars.
In the first few pages of D.M. Guay’s latest demon mart book, (Re)possessed, Lloyd makes a note for himself saying that cheese pizza is not a weapon. I disagree. If it’s hot out of the oven it will really, REALLY mess up the roof of your mouth. Not to mention if you throw it at someone just right you could get grease in their eyes. Anyway, if you’re this far in the series you know what to expect- bonkers stuff that NO ONE could have thought of except Guay. As always, Guay’s writing voice is top notch; without question one of the best writing horror comedy, if not the very best. Everything you’ve come to love with the series is here, Kevin being a turd, DeeDee being the only person capable of anything, Caroline being evil, and of course Lloyd just getting in everyone’s way by existing. Start this series if you haven’t and are somehow reading this. K thx.
I started reading 24/7 Demon Mart on the advice of a Twitter friend. Best advice I’ve ever gotten. Over four books, I laughed so hard, read so many tidbits aloud to to my husband, and told so many people about the series I’m afraid I’ve become possessed. By the books. No, seriously. Perhaps it’s because I have a thing for a hapless loser hero, or a never coming of age story. But I think there’s more to it than that. I love a series where I honestly root for the characters (even if one of them is a cockroach), laugh, cry, rinse and repeat. Plus, I ache for Lloyd’s poor mother. That woman knows how to shoulder a burden. I want to see her happy, for at least a hot minute.
If you love horror comedy, this is the series for you. Don’t wait. Go now. You’re welcome.
Lloyd and the crew are ready to face off against monsters and demons in another epic installment of D.M. Guy's brilliant horror comedy. In this book, the crew face off against their most dangerous foes yet, themselves - well, their possessed selves anyway. It takes all of Lloyd's efforts to rescue and rally the team, and if you've read any of the other Demon Mart books you'll know that Lloyd doesn't enjoy anything to do with effort.
Fun and funny, this horror comedy is another brilliant addition to the Demon Mart series. I must have the same sense of humour as the author because it feels like she's written this, and the other books, specifically for me. It's everything I love wrapped up in a neat little adventure, and the stories keep getting better too. Another 5/5 from me. Loved it and would recommend it.
Once more into the Demon Mart story group. Lloyd's room is completely a mess. Elsewhere there's a zombie chef, an Elvis wannabe incubus and, of course, Kevin the cockroach.
There's a strange red door that shouldn't be opened so, of course, it gets opened. Caroline, the rich nasty, gets attacked by a flower creature. There's a dollhouse for Kevin in the room, an easy chair for Lloyd and things that seem to appeal to the bad or worst side of the people there.
Something's wrong with Dee Dee, there's a talking Virgin Mary statue, and it's not long before the reader will realize what seven things are going on.
Lloyd's task: Stop what's happening before it's too late!
Yes, this is the best book in the Demon Mart series yet.
You can't beat the combination of obese, young bloke, talking cockroach, and smoking goth. With demons and sins of course. And the parallels with the US - and everywhere else to be honest - were well made.
This book has been a long time coming (see the book sausage) and too long in my library. But it was worth it. Now, straight on to book 5.
I read the book sausage slowly for the first time ever. That was a) pretty emotional and b) informative.
I won’t go into too much detail about the book to avoid spoilers and because it is the 4th book of a series (by now you should know if you like the series or not, and my meandering opinion won’t change your mind one way or another).
The key thing I wanted to point out is that Repossessed matches the same level of excellence as the first three books in the series.
The one thing I have to mention is how hard I laughed at all the scenes with the sex-doll of Lloyd’s mom. Those scenes were just pure awesome.
I love this series; I can't say that enough. And I never can put these books down without finishing. If you have a son you really need to read this, because...it could be worse. Insanely funny because I have a son and it is funny! Kevin the cockroach, I need more background on him. Dee Dee, I love and Lloyd, sometimes you want to pick him up and shake him. Growing up and learning how you affect others can be tough. This one I need to buy in paperback to make the collection current. For those times when the power is out or you just need to sit on the patio and laugh. That way the neighbors think you're a loon and will leave you alone. Keep up the good work!
It must speaks volumes when I manage to read/listen/finish a book in 2 days time. It wasn’t the original plan, however just like with Book 3 Angel Trouble, there were chapters that left on a cliff hanger of sorts, so being the type that likes/needs in some cases a resolution before I stop, I had to keep going. As usual I enjoy Ms Guay’s writing as it weaves a little bit of this & that into the story, like pro wrestling, little Debbie snack cakes, Dio, heck even Evel Knievel was mentioned in a sorts. I look forward to book 5 & hopefully beyond.
D.M.Guay never disappoints even going through her own personal piece of hell(my thoughts are with you and your family)She ROCKS funny and clever in story telling and her characters (look for horror hints) it's another action packed Demon Mart chaos fun filled story absolutely love this series thank you for your hard work it paid off right got to go I see the next is available! Why you still here go on get reading the series already!
DMG will you autograph my kindle? At SciFi or comic con, i will be the old guy dressed as a Greek God, not the pretty ones, or the Catholic Saint wiping off the dove of peace droppings off my halo. This is Dante without having to look up all references. You cheer on our hero. cannot say more, without giving things away. Seriously, I will buy a book for you to sign. It will go up with my signed Larry Niven's Inferno.
I love, love this book. I picked up the demon mart series on a whim, and I’m so glad I did. This book has what I’ve been waiting for for the main character: GROWTH.
He was such a cry baby for the first three novels, but in this book, he is possessed by the deadly sin: Sloth; and learns to work hard finally and put his friends and family's needs over his own.
I can’t wait for the next installment, as this has quickly become one of my favorite book series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
5 STARS for Book 4 in this well written & hilarious Series: 24/7 Demon Mart with a great BLURB provided. This series books are fast paced action packed & filled with a stark truth that makes one raise your eyebrows & laugh at the same time.
Great characters in both humans, demons, & various other monsters or supernatural beings. It helps one look at the world a little different.
I want to say I don't like the 24/7 Demon Mart stories but I find myself returning time and time again to the series. This was much better than the third book and even has a fun side story at the end featuring Mothman.
I'm not expecting Shakespeare here and I'm pleasantly surprised by what the author has done with the characters and the direction the story has gone. My biggest complaint is the lack of growth or change in the main character across four books.
Have you ever NOT loved one of these books in the bunch?! It's funny as all get out, it's going to keep you up reading it, and when you're on the last page, you're already fussin'' that she hasn't got another book 3/4 ready for you. Loved it & ready for the new one. Gotta love ALL the characters. ;)
This is a well written quirky store in a world hidden from us all. Ghosts, Demons and sentient employee manuals are the norm. This book fits very nicely in the Demon Mart series of works and is excellent in its humor and uses of tropes old and new. Highly recommend read.
As always D. M. Guys tells a great story. I'm already invested in the characters, who are very easy to relate to. Then there is the demons. I can totally see them and hear the sarcasm coming from them. D. M. Guys is creative, imaginative and just awesome.
You get a demon! You get a demon! Everyone gets a demon!
D.M. Guay is the master of cheesy horror. This book is the best one yet and I can't wait for the next.
Lloyd, master of procrastination, saves the world... Again! But this time he learns a lesson in the process. Is our little Lloyd growing up??? I guess only time and more sequels will tell.
Having saved the day, unfortunately Lloyd's next action is to unwittingly release the seven deadly sins. What ensues is a breakdown of the team, as the Demon Mart is thrown into chaos. Lloyd must step up and save the day, but can he be honest with his friends. Another good story, as the team face there greatest danger, so far.
The seven sins. A very good read about them. Lloyd opens the red door without really thinking about what he was doing. Starts out on an adventure of being controlled by a couple sins. Each character is affected.
I have become too involved in Lloyd's life. And I want to play with bubbie.. if you like Christopher Moore..you will love D.M.Guay..I need more of Lloyd's Universe.
