If you haven't listened to this graphic audiobook series, you are missing out on a true masterpiece.

The whole tone of Part 1 is slower than the first two graphic audiobooks combined but the voice actors capture the beauty of SJM's world and characters so beautifully. Feyre's emotions are captured so well, it deserves to be appreciated. We also see more character development, relationship dynamics and of course more political moves at play.

Part 1 starts with Feyre back in the Spring Court with Tamlin and Lucien, but this time she's a wolf in sheep's clothing. We follow her journey back to her mate from the spring court up till Feyre seeking to meet the Bone Carver and the Inner Circle deciding to go to the court of nightmares. Tho it ends rather abruptly at Feyre's nightmare.

Y'all I love Rhys but Cassian and Nesta's actors are truly underrated 🤌🤌 They speak with such raw emotion, it makes you feel like it's all truly happening.

On to Part 2 🤩

~•~•~

Gonna listen to this while traveling. Vacay mode on, and what better audiobook to listen to than this one👀 It's gonna be FUN!!

"I suggest you drop my lady."

AAAHHH!! This GRAPHIC audio is AMAZING!!!! I think this one may be favorite performance of the three books so far. I think the actors feel more organic and comfortable with their characters by this point and it shows. The action scenes and the music are just 🤌🤌🤌

Also I LOVE Feyre in this book so much, she is in her petty revenge era and I am here for it! She also is just stepping into her role and it just is so exciting to see her embrace her power.

Another favorite thing about this one is how the inner circle expands with Nesta, Elain and Lucien and I love it when they are all interacting together.

Starting Part 2 immediately! 🥰

Sixth read/listen:
This dramatized adaptation is as amazing, gorgeous, and perfect as the ones for the second book. 🧡💛💚💙

I think the scene where Cassian and Az come to Feyre's rescue is my favorite in this first part.

Yup. I still hate Nesta.
She is a major b*tch.
I mean, she accepted to help Feyre and her friends only in exchange for them killing the human queens and Hybern’s King, because she doesn’t feel like helping faes who would have let her die as a human. I get it, but what does she think Hybern will do to the humans in Prythian? This is not just about faes… I get that she has trauma, but to me, she mostly appears as a selfish, difficult woman.

And I lost count of how many times Lucien blanched, lost all colors, or became white suddenly. 😅
Poor Lucien, I really want him to get his happy ending.🥲

_______________________

I cry so much every time I read this book! I mean, big sobs and ugly red and tear-streaked face... That ending. It just kills me. Painfully. Every time. 😭

There is no word to describe how much I love this series. I went through so many emotions while reading it. I laughed out loud, I squealed from excitement, I raged, and I cried. It is truly a magical and fantastic adventure, and even though I’ve read it three times already, it’s still as good as the first time. This book is not as good as the perfection that is ACOMAF, but it is very close.

This book owns me, body and soul. It is packed with action, the characters can't seem to catch a break, and neither can I. I was at the edge of my seat for the whole ride; it was torture to put it down because I had to sleep or go to work. It would have been worth it to take a sick day just to continue reading this book and enjoying every single minute of it. The last 100 pages are a real roller-coaster, the action, the stress, the non-stop heart-pounding… It’s an unputdownable book.

"She is High Lady of the Night Court. She may do as she wishes."

Feyre, Rhysand, and their court of dreamers are about to go to war. They need allies and resources, and quickly if they want to have a chance at stopping Hybern’s army, who’s ready to tear down the wall to enslave or slaughter everyone. Desperate as they are, their only chance is to try to unite the 7 courts against their common enemy, something that has not been done in thousands of years. No matter how hard they try, the King of Hybern always seems to be two steps ahead, with his army, his apparently limitless powers, and the power of the Cauldron itself.

Feyre and Rhys risk losing everything and everyone they hold dear, but they are both willing to pay the ultimate price to save the ones they love. Among all the action, scheming and politics, they are trying to think about a way to protect their loved ones and to protect each other, their despair and fragile hope are woven all throughout the book, making me love them even more than I did before.

“I would have waited five hundred more years for you. A thousand years. And if this was all the time we were allowed to have … The wait was worth it.”

Sweet, selfless, and perfect Rhys. I love him so much.
I mean, I could repeat all the reasons why he is perfect, but I feel like I already said everything in my reviews of the first two books, so I will simply reiterate that I am in love with him.

I was also very happy to see more of Lucien in this book, but I still think that he deserves so much more! He is amazing and it breaks my heart to see how lonely he is, how he is yearning for a love that seems to be out of his reach. He is trying to figure out where he belongs now that he is not welcome in the Spring Court anymore, and I just wanted to hug him so badly… He’s the best (after Rhys). I really do hope that he gets his book and his well-deserved happy ending.

I also like that we had the chance to see Tamlin as a more complex character, he is still a jerk, but at least he had more depth than in ACOMAF where he was just an overprotective macho willing to do anything to get his perfect groomed bride back. I don’t like him yet, but I was able to connect a little more with him in the second part of this book and to appreciate his character a little more. The same can be said for Nesta, I appreciate her more after reading this book, I had forgotten how much her character changed in this book (in a good way).

I am obsessed with this series and the characters. Sarah J. Maas mixed so many different personalities in this series, from sweet and emotional, to cold-hearted and creepy, and she has a way to make her characters feel so real. Their actions, thoughts, emotions, and banter, I wish I could be a part of their group.

Loving these graphic audiobooks

First of all, I wish all audiobooks were graphic. The noises, music, and *ahem* moans make it come more alive 😉👀.

If you’ve ever wanted to try listening to an audiobook, maybe try these. It has a full cast and each character has his/her own voice.

Now… to the story…

It stars off in Rhys’s POV, 2 years before the war.

Then we go back to the present, in Feyre’s POV. Weeks have passed since Tamlin took her, her sisters became Fae, and she made Rhys to be a bad guy (all a ruse). She’s a acting as if she’s traumatized about everything that happened. But it’s all a lie.

She’s basically getting intel to help Rhys and their people defeat the King of Hybern. Jurian plays an active role in what’s going on and she meets some interesting twins who’re creeeepy.

Oh, and we have Lucien as well.

Ah. Lucien. I really like him.

Part 1 of the graphic audio is Feyre away at the Spring Court with Tamlin and Lucien. Luckily, by the second audiobook, she’s away from it all again.

I have a very love hate relationship with sjm, one book she grips me, the next I hate. This unfortunately falls into the latter category for the following reasons. I will still be continuing on because, again, I really enjoy half the books I read by her and I really want to get to ACOSF and Crescent City.

Note: There are light spoilers about the plot in my review

1. Writing
The plot is not very cohesive and the actions of every character makes literally zero sense. That being said, I knew that going into this series and intended to enjoy it as a guilty pleasure, so that alone only drops the book to 3 stars.

2. Politics
This is one of my biggest gripes with this book. SJM has a tendency to make her characters be the absolute shittiest people in any foreign relations to the point where it is exhausting and almost impossible to root for them.
WHY are we bullying and scaring people into doing our bidding when you could so easily just explain things and they would help you? No one wants the big scary evil men to win - its not hard to recruit people to your cause, Feyre and Rhys are genuinely just so unlikeable, self absorbed, and shitty to everyone that isn't their inner circle that they actively make foreign interactions worse for them.
Additionally, I had a really big problem with Feyre in the Court of Nightmares when she talks about the people in the court of nightmares. It is incredibly dangerous and dehumanizing to group citizens in with how their government acts and then dismiss every single person in a city because you think all of them are irredeemable. It also makes ZERO sense in this situation since we know that Mor is from this group and she felt very different than her government and had to escape it.
The entire situation with the spring court was actually insane too. Like Feyre literally destabilized an entire court and caused so many innocent deaths just because she hates Tamlin? And feels NO remorse? And I’m supposed to root for her???
At the end of every single political interaction in this book I was convinced Feyre and Rhysand were the villains of this story because they are genuinely such bad people.

3. War/Battles
I absolutely despise when characters in fantasy books treat their foot soldiers like pawns that are just sacrifices for themselves and the way SJM portrays foot soldiers is so dehumanizing.
Her battles also just aren't compelling to me. They're over quickly and usually solved by some random thing that no one could have anticipated. I prefer seeing more in depth battle stuff and up close fights with the main characters instead of them talking in war camps about how its totally worth it to sacrifice thousands of their soldiers as if they aren't people.

4. Characterizations/Butchering Character Development
In general, I think SJM is really bad at character development, but there are a few in particular that she really butchers.
Amren
I'm convinced that SJM forgot how she wrote Amren in ACOMAF because the character in this book is a completely different person. Amren was Feyre's friend in ACOMAF and they got along really well and had great rapor, she was grumpy but loving. In this book, she turns into a mini-Nesta and everyone talks about how mean she is often and there is no trigger for this change.
Tamlin
Don't get me wrong, I hate Tamlin. But I do think that it was a huge cop out to turn him into a complete cookie cutter over dramatic villain instead of having him try to process or acknowledge his trauma in any way. It felt like he got turned into a villain just to make sure absolutely no one would ship Feyre and Tamlin or to make Rhys look good. There was definitely a way to subtly make him an abuser and controlling and then vengeful but I felt like she hit us over the head with his abrupt change and it lost its impact for me.
Their DAD
This was the stupidest character ever. I’m not kidding. I won’t go in depth because of spoilers but I felt so much rage about this plot point.

5. False Stakes.
I need SJM to stop having her characters have long inner monologues about how everyone is going to die and make really dramatic speeches to each other about dying, then having NO ONE DIE (or literally no stakes). If you are going to give your characters plot armor that's fine, but if I have to listen to a million speeches about how they're going to die at least one person better stay dead.

6. Lack of Foreshadowing
I am a firm believer that after you read a fantasy book you should be able to pinpoint specific parts of the book that foreshadowed the main twists. In this series (and ToG), it feels like SJM is going through hoops so that her readers don't guess what is going to happen next (which is especially absurd since this is written in 1st person) to the point where the plot feels so weird and convoluted at times.

7. Sexism/Incredibly Gendered Approaches
Guess what? Its not cool to have a powerful female character lose her powers and that seems to be SJM's favorite thing to do to powerful women.
The amount of times I have heard to hear about male stares and just blatantly gendered things is annoying and grating. I don't have anything else to add about that because if you've read this series you know how gendered it is.

8. Poor LGBTQ+ Representation
Every single bisexual character that SJM has written has been either a prostitute or wanting threesomes. I don't think I need to elaborate on how that perpetuates a very negative stereotype of bisexuals.
I don't even want to go into what she's trying to do with Mor because that is NOT HOW BISEXUALS WORK. Mor’s speech at the end was one of the worst things I’ve ever had to read.

9. Consent
From this and ToG, I am genuinely convinced that SJM has no idea what consent means. This specific book luckily doesn't paint sexual acts without consent in a good (or redeemable) light, but many of her past books have.
The issue this book has primarily lies with Rhys. The only person in this entire series he respects the choices and opinions of is Feyre, he chooses sacrifices for his friends to make without telling them, and he actively encourages Feyre to go into the minds of her friends for pretty much no reason.
I also think it is very interesting how, while it was great for Feyre to call Ianthe out on pursuing people without consent, no one calls out any of the men for doing this and their actions are seen as justified (see Rhysand drugging Feyre under the mountain)

10. Redeeming the Irredeemable
This book ending with Feyre saying that she wishes the best for Tamlin because "there isn't enough time to focus on hatred even as an immortal" is an extremely weird and uncomfortable take. Tamlin was quite literally her abuser and he got progressively worse as a character and, as soon as he reached peak irredeemable, he did something that made the MC forgive him. He should never have been forgiven and I personally think that sends a really bad message to abuse victims. The Snape-ification of characters is a blight on our society and needs to stop. I don't care if someone saves the world, if they spend an entire series being the biggest piece of shit possible, they do not deserve redemption that easily.

In Short
I know this is meant to be a brain off kind of guilty pleasure fantasy read, but there was way too many problematic things for me to be able to turn my brain off. I would've enjoyed this book so much more if it was just a reality tv level drama about fae with smut. That would've been so fun!!
I’m going to be taking a break from this series after this because this one was just really rough for me but I do plan on picking up the next two books this year.

So far so good! I'm technically a third of the way through this particular book (since this is part 1 of 3) and nothing big has happened. It's a lot of problems to solve and not a lot of answers at this point. It's holding my attention and I'm really enjoying the Rhys and Feyre's banter.

The graphic audio version of this is still incredible and I still want all the audiobooks in the world to be produced by this company 🥺

In Part 1 the audiobook opens with Feyre’s return to the Spring Court and ends suddenly at the scene with her nightmare.

There’s much to consider and many wrongs to set right after book 2. To put it mildly, a lot has happened. This book is a deep dive into understanding what it will take for our beloved characters to survive the looming threat.

Politics are heavy in the third installment and some aspects of character development seem a little shaky throughout.

The music adds a beautiful depth to the atmosphere of the audiobook. 🎶

I guess this was my least favorite part of all the books. It just dragged!! To be honest, the third book is my favourite, but the fact that the audiobooks are separated into multiple parts, is giving me the chance to rate them in a different way.
But can't wait to listen to the last one because it's just my favourite!!!

I'm loving this story, and it's so amazing as a graphic audio.

I'm SOOO torn right now. I have the books on my shelf, I could easily grab it and pick up where part 1 left off and finish the series. I could easily download the regular audio book and finish the series.
BUT neither of those options will be as satisfying as finishing the series in graphic audio... but after looking up the release dates for the rest of the books, it's going to take MONTHS! I just don't know if I can wait that long. Ugh.

THIS is why I never start a series before the final book has been released. In this case, the series is finished, just not in the format that I want.

4¼⭐

…the bullet points

- Graphic Audio Editions (Parts 1-3)
- Book #3 in the ACOTAR series
- Romantasy (romance+fantasy)
- fae world
- definitely more adult than ya
- politics, war, matings & an unexpected ally or two

A decent ending-ish (since I know there are more books/spinoffs) to Feyre’s story. I liked it…but…I think it was way too long. Those battle scenes were really quite monotonous…I actually kept tuning them out. Overall, this was a good fantasy series, that was made into a very good series with the graphic audio performances. I would’ve never gotten past the first book otherwise.

i am such a cassian girly through and through. i’m remembering how much i loved rhys too but i’m surviving off these nessian crumbs and can’t wait to get to a court of silver flames. even tho im really liking feyre’s character a lot more on this re-read, i’m more of a nesta girl too. her character arc in acosf means everything to me.

i also really, really hope we get a book where lucien is featured. i LOVE him sm. i have since he was introduced in the first book. lucien, they could never make me hate you.

i’m starting to maybe understand the whole “mor is secretly evil” thing. i didn’t really notice some of the weird things surrounding her character until my re-read, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it turns out she’s betraying the inner circle. she’s just… very suspicious. i don’t want her to be evil but, i wouldn’t be shocked. i know she does a lot of shady shit in acowar that hasn’t even happened yet and i already saw the signs in acomaf

-I loved this so much!! Seriously i don’t think i’ll ever get tired of these characters and this world.

-This is one of my favourites of the dramatised audiobooks so far which is honestly weird considering acomaf is my favourite book. Maybe I love it so much that it has to be physically read, idk.

-But seriously first 200 pages of acowar Feyre? Scheming, vengeful Feyre? 😌 Might be my favourite.

no rating bc i used the graphic audio only as a placeholder for goodreads — huge shoutout to thebookworm1212 for narrating the series on youtube 🫶🏻 i really want to like audiobooks & especially graphic audiobooks but i simply don’t. i think because it puts emotional spins on the dialogue that don’t accord with how i read in my head lmao. anyway ! reengaging directly with the holy text itself has been such a treat. i missed eris and azriel and lucien (the holy trinity plus also jurian) so much. now onto the holiday special🙂‍↕️

I thought it would take me longer to listen to this, because I’m still getting used to incorporating audiobooks in my routine, but I ended up finishing this faster than I anticipated.

I’m obsessed with these graphic audios, the cast is so good. I love this book so much, it’s the best one in the series and I’m so excited to continue listening to the audios, because one of the best scenes in the entire series is coming: the high lords meeting 😌

A big shoutout to the actors voicing Nesta and Cassian, they’re amazing!!!

Cheers and on to the next one 🍻🥴

Hallelujah to these books being broken down into 6-7 hour segments instead of 8. It makes it so much easier to get through them at a steady pace within my 2 week loan period (which is too short for an audio book by the way Connected Libraries).
I breezed through this part. I really enjoyed having Lucien back again and loved Feyre's antics at the Spring Court, especially if they involved Ianthe - God that scene was epic - the thudding in the background gave me chills.
I've been thinking about whether i think Feyre went too far, as i've heard people discuss this and i absolutely don't. I do NOT think Feyre was blameless in the downfall of her relationship with Tamlin. I think his PTSD doesn't get acknowledged enough and Feyre made the bare minimum effort to communicate her needs to him while also asking him about his needs or even attempting to understand his insecurities. But i don't think her actions in this one are too far because she mostly just lays traps for the characters to walk into that manipulate and emphasise their weaknesses and insecurities. At the end of the day, Tamlin's own behaviour led to his downfall and it was the exposure of these faults that turned the situation against him so while she orchestrated it, i don't have much sympathy for Tamlin or other Hybern agents as a result.
