Ai Yazawa (Japanese: 矢沢あい, Yazawa Ai) is a Japanese manga author and illustrator. Her pen name comes from singer Eikichi Yazawa, of whom she is a fan. Yazawa started her comics career in 1985. She specialises in shojo manga (girls' comics). Most of her works have been serialised in the magazines 'Ribon', 'Cookie' and 'Zipper'. Yazawa's stories focus on young, often rebellious women and their relationships. The characters are always very stylish, and Yazawa herself is known for her sense of fashion. (She even attended a fashion school for some time after high school.) Among her most famous manga are Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai (I'm No Angel, 1992–1995), Neighborhood Story (1995-1998), Paradise Kiss (1999-2004), and Nana (2000-2009), the latter awarded a Shogakukan Manga Award in 2003. Some of these works have been adapted into anime and live action movies.
It's confusing that I want Nana and Hachi to be together while still acknowledging how terrible their relationship will be. Give everyone what they deserve, and by everyone I mean everyone, God, please. They are all my beloved children.
This was a much longer volume, but man, it was good! Nana and Hachi are still best friends and love each other, they just need to SEE one another :( < / 3 I kind of like Nobu and Yuri, and Yasu and Myu together; but I think Ren and Nana are a ticking time bomb that will have some serious collateral damage. There just both too messed up and damaged for one another...
I loved the short story at the end of Nobu's past - It was really interesting to see more of that part of Nana O's story from a different perspective.
Now for three quotes about relationships :)
"I know, but I just can't be happy with that. I can't respect what Ren considers important. I'm suffering 'cause I can't fulfill his desires. I feel lonely 'cause I can't have my desires fulfilled. How can two people like that stay together and be happy?" - Nana O.
"The things that stress me out haven't changed. But I don't wanna lose anything. So I thought that at least I should change. I'm lucky that I'm afraid of losing something." - Nana K.
"I realized that no matter how much you like each other, if you can't respect the things that're important to the other person, the relationship won't work." - Nobu
“I realized that no matter how much you like each other, if you can’t respect the things that are important to the other person, the relationship won’t work.” Nobu continuing to be the most emotionally balanced AND the most delulu person in the series!!! He can do it all!!!
This isn't much of a review but I'll post it anyway: I started reading Nana is middle school (probably in shojo beat) and I thought the characters were so cool and adult. Now I'm the age of the main characters and I find myself kind of irritated by them. I feel like they're unhappy because they take on too much at once. Blast should be happy the have a deal. Most people are in college at this age, they are far from making their dreams come true. Nana should just dump Ren. She's been alone in the past, she has friends now. She and Hachi should just meet up. Hachi isn't even doing anything. The art is wonderful as always.
First of all I'm a sucker for Christmas so this automatically rose to a higher rating than some of the last volumes. Number two I loved the mystery of Nana's future. Number three I loved the mystery of Nana's past. Overall I just really liked this one. I especially enjoyed the side story about Nobou's past. But really what I need to know is what is going on with Misato and what Hachi is going to discover by visiting Nana's hometown. You don't think I caught that Misato's real name is the last name of Nana's supposed father, I caught it! I didn't do all this work studying literature to not be deeply interested in what's going on there!
I often comment that manga has way more style over substance..I would never say that for this series. In depth characters..and relationships are amazingly portrayed....just making you so committed to these characters...especially towards the heartbreak you know is going to come.
"Me di cuenta de que no importa que tan cercanos fuéramos el uno del otro, si la otra persona no puede aprender a apreciar mis intereses, entonces, nunca sería capaz de mantener esa relación."
Nobu’s side story was so cute and provided so much depth and context to him! Sucks that whatever Yazawa’s intention for that will probably never be realized
Oh, the drama! scandals everywhere you look! relationships scandals and hidden history and family memebers and missing mothers scandal. I'm really wondering what'll happen to Nana, if we're even get to know that!
This volume was quite stagnant for me. Decent, but doesn't have the emotional impact of prior volumes. I wish more happened when Nana met Misato Uehara.
Agh, the quicker I read this series the faster I know I'm approaching the hiatus!
This was a fantastic volume - and much longer than most! I loved the growing focus on Nana's family and backstory, and Hachi becoming more determined to find her role in this world is great, too. Also, nice bonus - Takumi and Ren weren't in here! So this volume automatically becomes elevated!
There are still painful notes of Shin and Reira in here, but I really loved Myu especially. She's genuinely really nice, and I want more of her and Yasu. Ultimately, though, Nana isn't doing well, and Hachi might not be able to save her on her own. So yeah, agh, we're gonna need more from both of them!
Also, this book had a bonus story at the end about Nobu's backstory. While Nobu isn't my favorite character, I really liked his history with Nana. They have a sweet relationship, and I liked reading about Nobu without Hachi being part of his story.
Bellissimo questo volume 😭 sono troppo in ansia..mi aspetto tante cose brutte. Ma vogliamo parlare della bellezza del capitolo extra su Nobu? Che pianti 😭 Amo questo personaggio sempre di più!
