Everything the pack has been fighting for, they finally achieved. But it wasn't the end. It was nothing like they expected.
There are consequences for every action, good or bad, and Amber must now face down the inevitable fallout from her choices. She asked her allies to trust her. To follow her. And they did.
Now they're all paying for it.
The sky is streaked with fire. Magic has gone haywire. And their enemies are breathing down their necks.
The final battle is here, and losing is not an option.
I honestly just didn't really care for any of the characters by this point, but most of the big hanging plot points were resolved by the end of the book. I didn't get the point of bringing in everyone's parents and then never really expanding on their relationship with the pack members and showing any improvement. Amber had a terrible relationship with her mother at the start of the series, and Amber still had a terrible relationship with her mother by the end.
Lots of characters died, especially the villains, but I was still not emotionally attached to any of them like in the last book. Even the expected victory seemed rather hollow. Amber got her HEA, but I honestly thought she still didn't prove how she was a competent dominant Alpha Dominus by the end of the series -- and apparently the position is for life. /shrug
It was a very action-packed series with a huge supporting cast by the end, but I think throwing in so many different POV weakened the story-telling and made it hard to get super attached to any the characters and really understand their motivations. --- Ratings - completed series: #1 Misfit Pack: ★★★★☆ #2 Misfit Angel: ★★★☆☆ #3 Misfit Fortune: ★★★★☆ #4 Misfit Hunt: ★★★☆☆ #5 Misfit Alpha (this book): ★★★☆☆
I’m always finding things that bother me but as soon as it ends, I’m happy and wishing it didn’t end.
This author has a ways to go, I think. They write just enough to make me feel like I’m a little detached. When it comes to romance, which isn’t really a prevalent thing, it lacks a little. I’m okay with that but when romance starts... happening, it feels hollow, because it was never really a THING throughout.
I love the world, the people and bad guys. Sometimes it got laggy for me but I’m an impatient reader.
The importance of family did it for me. I love that they were a true pack and I love the dangers they faced together.
First of all, that cover is amazing. *stares some more*
I have to express my disappointment that this series was not what I expected it to be. I wanted it to become one of my new favorites but it fell short of that. I was excited for a bit of villain romance, but the demon became so mellow and lost his personality throughout the series. Amber was a powerful, independent, dominant female lead but it felt like their romance was added as an afterthought. That's sad because it could have made the books so much better. At some point there were so many characters in one scene that it was hard to keep up with everything that was going on.
But overall the series was good. It presents such an amazing friendship and family bond between people that choose to be there for each other. If there's ever an additional epilogue or spin-off I'm pretty sure I'll read it because the author created such an intriguing world and wonderful characters.
I just finished writing reviews for 2-4 back to back. This book was not what I expected it to be. It seemed like all the dramatics, trauma, and battle seemed to be way more concentrated in the 4th book instead of this one. Don't get me wrong, there was still fighting but it didn't have the same impact and didn't last as long. I will miss these characters and thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. Mostly everything is wrapped up.
I guess I would say this was a decent ending to a wonderful series. I think that not having updates on some of the people we met along the way was disappointing. Did the werewolf ever make it outta jail? What happened with Ito? Greer? Mika? It all seems a bit unraveled. Yay, Tommy and Deward are going to continue being close, going to school together. I guess that means Tommy got his GED. Did Gen go back to work for the law firm? Did Stephen finish his thesis and get his degree? Oh congrats that Amber and Angel finally made it official. Too bad Eva didn't exactly get to avenge her mom's death. Why aren't Eva and Tommy still close? What happened there? No mark no friendship? So many unanswered questions.
I am a avid reader and there was so much to enjoy. She had great characterization I learned to Love the pack of misfits. I'm actually disappointed that more people haven't found these books. Would make a great movie!!
I haven’t included character names to try and avoid obvious spoilers but if you haven’t read the series yet then maybe skip the last half of this review.
It was refreshing to follow characters with realistic flaws, issues and relationships without all of them being “fixed” or resolved.
I personally feel it is a good thing to identify and protect yourself from toxic relationships, even if that includes family members. This series doesn’t shy away from the issues and feelings associated with that. It also doesn’t suggest that everything should always be forgiven just because someone is family.
Although others might disagree, I think that message is empowering to those who are in a similar situation and I’m really glad the author was brave enough to see it through with sensitivity.
The characters who faced health problems/ disability/ grief and loss (of strength etc.) also reacted in a believable way. Most people do have a bit of a pity party when things like this happen or detach themselves for a while. Showing that is O.K, and then finding ways to adapt, was a big plus for me.
The reason I put 4/5 stars was because it felt like some parts of the story weren’t explored as much as they could have been or were skipped and referenced later. There were some great opportunities for emotional or tender moments to be explored, such as the spirit of the house interacting with her daughter face to face, or the half angel/demon being told stories about the mother she never met.
The series is explored through different character POV, I would have liked to have seen more snippets during the final battle especially, from characters who were in different parts of the building for example.
There were characters that were mentioned heavily at the start of the series which were only referenced in passing at the end. It would have been good to see even short interactions with these characters to demonstrate how much the main characters have developed over the course of the series.
In summary, there wasn’t anything I disliked about the story or the writing, I just wanted a more in depth exploration in parts.
I started this book with mixed feelings. And I'm writing this review with the same bittersweet feeling. On the one hand I'm overjoyed at discovering just what my favorite pack has been working towards, but I'm going to miss looking forward to the next adventure.
This is no completely happy ever after story end. Some losses can not be altered, some battles leave warriors fallen, some enemies are friends, and some families are enemies. But through it all, the characters continue growing. The storytelling is masterful and engaging. A fitting end to an amazing series.
Stephanie Foxe is definitely one of the better writers I've come across. Every book is devoured within hours. There are all the elements of a great story: world building and story progression that makes sense, character growth and depth, a lead hero that won't quit, family, romance, and of course hilarious character interactions.
Amber is an amazing woman who steps up to the plate of alpha dominus to protect not just those she loves, but also for those who have no one else. Her pack becomes her family and a snarky 'demon' becomes more than just her greatest ally. And I have to say: Woggy and the pixies are GOLD. This series is 100% worth the buy!
As well as awesome battles, heart wrenching losses and the culmination of the war in one huge final all out brawl, this wonderful story by Stephanie Foxe also delivered warmth, family harmony and a depth of loyalty and strong uncompromising love and acceptance.
We get our HEA... Stephanie Foxe takes the time to tie up any loose ends, and ultimately, despite many breath catching moments, we are left with a brutal, sad, yet glorious ending to what has been a wonderful series.
I highly recommend the Cursed World Series to any fans of Urban Fantasy.
Amber and crew are back with the fight of their life! They have their allies behind them while they go to battle against the incubi to save magic and the world. They have relics that need destroyed to take back magic and to weaken their foe. Kadrithan and the fae help in keeping families safe and in providing a place to enter the battle. Allies unite and magic is returned after epic fights. And there is a very satisfying ending . Loved it!
This book is amazing. It closes the current series absolutely perfectly. All of the threads which have been winding through the previous books have been pulled together to create a brilliant ending. This is one powerful story. Stephanie Foxe has produced a thoroughly captivating page-turner. For anyone who hasn't read her books you are in for a treat. Her characters are always engaging and the storylines exciting. These stories should really see this author become a well known name.
Book 5 in the Cursed World series was well worth the wait! In their final show down with the "angels", Amber and her misfit pack discover that the hardest part of their journey is yet to come. Enemies become allies, and the lines between right and wrong are not as clear. If you are looking for a series to binge read, You don't need to look any further than this one.
I don't remember how I came upon this series, but so glad I did. I could not stop reading from start of book 1 to the end of book 5. I was sad that they ended but things do come to an end. You will laugh, cry, and cheer for Amber and her pack, they are so much fun to read about...if you love the Mercy verse, I think you will love Amber and her family..🤪
What a spectacular ending to a wonderful series! It definitely took me for a ride and was rough at times, but it was absolutely amazing. The characters are so great and lovable. The wording is fantastic, playful, and refreshing. The series is definitely a great choice for anyone who loves strong female leads, doesn't mind cursing, loves epic fights, enjoys word play, and likes a good adventure! I'm definitely going to miss this wonderful world and its quirky inhabitants!
Caution - This is one of those series that is hard to set down! Better not start it unless you have the time or are very disciplined. Great kickbut! heroine and motley crew. I enjoyed Foxe's unique demon backstory and each series did a great job world building and developing ties with all the characters. I'll definitely be reading more from this author.
This was amazing! Tense, angsty, funny, sad, angry, happy. This book gave me all the feels! I had no questions by the end. I was just happy. Loved it! The whole series was awesome. Thank you Stephanie Foxe for such a gripping tale and such lovable characters, even the ones you wouldn't expect like Bram and Ito. Must read!
An outstanding series! I read all 5 books in 2 days. The author masterfully hooks you in to the story. Great worldbuilding that is revealed in the story. Fantastic characters! You will be entranced by the MC. You will even like pixies. Series ended very well. I'm hoping for more books in this world.
I loved the Misfit Series! Stephanie’s story pulled you into her characters - like making a new friend - albeit, a friend with a lot of drama. My fav character has to be Ito. The way he finally came around after being such a negative individual. It reminded me of the old adage “walk a mile in my shoes.” And I love a happy ending.
Truly loved this series. All the characters and their development over all 5 books was fantastic. The final fight was action packed and the ending was just what i hoped for, however i would love to read more on Amber and Angel. Well done Stephanie, another cracker!
I love this series so much. It has just the right amount of everything that I love. I really can't put into words how much I love this series. I love that it avoids the tropes that turn me off (love triangle and miscommunication being the biggest of them all) and includes all of the ones I love (found family) while also being humourous and very well written.
Most of the characters are struggling towards their idea of victory. Amber solidifies relationships across species, and some horrid parents show how pathetic they are. I'm A bit sad about the lack of conclusion for Evangeline. Sure, she moves on, but she could probably inspire her own angsty series. I'm satisfied with the conclusion. Good read.
The storyline definitely draws you in and even the slow moments keep your attention. The dialogue and descriptions make you feel as though you're amongst the characters. Even for five books the plot isn't overly drawn out like other series out there. I was not disappointed
Honestly I am absolutely heartbroken that this series is over. I loved every second of these books and cannot wait to do a re-read. From the incredible character development, to the insanely intricate but easy to follow plots, it was amazing. I’m glad I did this series as audio books as it allowed me to take me time and not rush through them!
I really liked this. I thought it was a great conclusion to the series. As a pack and individually, all the stories were finished in what felt like a natural conclusion, while also allowing for more stories within the world later
The final installment in the Misfit Pack dies not disappoint. The final battle brings together all races human and supernatural. Magic is scrambled and revenge is high. Amber’s pack faces their biggest challenge and love and pack family will prevail.
I have loved, loved, loved this series. The interactions of the pack that have become family are wonderful. The will to do what is right no matter the cost is truly lived within this series. Thank you Stephanie Foxe!
I really can't say enough on how good the series is. The deeper on you go, the better it gets. Each book is wonderful. You will binge read in 3 days if given a chance.
With so much left to the story I didn’t believe it could be done with one last book but Stephanie Foxe did it without feeling rushed! What a whirlwind..... I always enjoy the side characters and wonder if maybe now we can learn more about them ? :)
From the 1st book to the 5th. The characters where well written and fully developed. I could sympathize with their need to find family yet, develop their own strengths. If you like big saga good guy vs bad guys fight events, you’ll love these books.
