The Free Isle of Rouset has a dragon problem, and Magemaster Doaldin has long preached salvation through one simple, terrible sacrificing women to the ravenous beasts. When Riva is torn from her quiet life of candlemaking and thrust into the infamous scarlet dress as an offering, she’s determined to break the cycle once and for all.
But when her uncertain inner flame meets its match, the heat she endures has nothing to do with the fire that courses from leviathan jaws. Can Riva stoke the embers within and reduce the Magemaster to ashes? With the unexpectedly sensual help of her new allies, she may just find freedom - for her homeland and her inhibitions.
Content This story is intended for mature (18-and-up) readers, with themes including but not limited group “activity” with multiple partners, solo play, blood, chains as restraining devices, voyeurism, kidnapping, mortal peril, non-human anatomy (of the double P variety), patriarchy, recreational 'sweetleaf' use, communism, combustible secretions of joy, pet play, primal chase, foot stuff, minor injuries, magical murder, hoarding, mild body horror, age gap, ‘wax’ play, rimming, em-preg (brief appearance, non-main characters), unapologetic food waste, compelled spontaneous combustion, brief mention of lewd drawings, and glassblowing. While adult interactions between male partners do not need a warning, consider this a heads-up that these interactions, both explicit and otherwise, play a large, happy role in this story. (Have questions or concerns? Feel free to reach out to the authors before diving into the story!)
Vera and J.L. really gotta stop trying to write crazy plots only to have the book end up really fucking good. I come here for LAUGHS. Instead I got an actually intriguing story w hot sex scenes that didn't make me think too hard yet satisfied me in every way. A really fun paranormal w MMM and MMMF action.
My only complaint is how many books I've read lately where they have two dicks and yet no DP happens. Slightly disappointing on that front.
But the story was fabulous and entertaining and just the right amount of silly.
3.5 stars. This is a polyamorous romance about three committed male dragons and a human woman who fall in love and have creative sex and then take down a shitty fascist. It's absolutely as absurd as it looks and it was super enjoyable. Features (among many other things): red, white, and blue queer dragons, dragon orgies, fancy bong crafting and usage, foot stuff, lava semen, creative tongue work, and double peens.
I am absolutely going to reread this next year on the 4th of July.
Bit of a mixed bag for me. I enjoyed a lot of different aspects about this, but i do sorta feel like things didn't quite come together. The book took a while to get rolling, and tried to fit a lot in the last 30%. Once things picked up I did really enjoy it. I wish it had been a bit longer. We don't really get to see much of their time together or their HEA. I really wish we could have spent more time on their relationship and the Big Change the happened is barely explored. I feel like the whole book was just them setting up their relationship, killing the villain and then it ended. Idk it was still a lot of fun and the spice was cute, I wish I had more over all.
The ladies have delivered a tongue in cheek, relevant fight against the Patriarchy all while keeping it kinky and humorous. And of course dragons! Keep the little chunks of sunshine coming.
3.5 stars. DNF at 86% because I just literally couldn't make myself care about the ending.
I actually came here because of Vera Valentine: I loved their balloon animal romance, and then REALLY loved the pirate book, so I figured I'd give this weird premise a shot...I've certainly read weirder things. It starts off really strong, with a feisty FMC ready to go out swinging as a sacrifice, and then a MMM spice scene that was a fun way to kick off the book.
Unfortunately, nothing really happened from there? Read a lot about collecting eggs and making breakfast....ONE (and only one!) good chase/spice scene...some generic plotting. The action was sorta starting to pick up at 86% so I'm guessing, based on the other reviews, that it was all going to wrap up in 10 pages like the standard rushed fantasy ending. I feel like there was an awesome opportunity to just really lean into the goofy smut here, and we just watched that opportunity float by.
Anyway, definitely read it if you like the authors, or have a thing for only partially shifted dragons.
Riva was my hero from the very start of this book. She is chained on a cliff, in the middle of a horrible storm, fully expecting to be killed by an evil dragon who requires regular maiden sacrifices. Has she given up? No! Her plan is to take the dragon out with her hidden magical fire, for revenge for every other sacrifice they've killed, and to protect any more that would have come after her. She knows it'll probably be her end, but she's taking them out with her.
Of course, nothing after that point goes as she expects. There are three dragons, and they're nowhere near the evil beasts her whole town has been taught to fear. This book was funny and a great adventure. I highly recommend checking it out.
This would be. 3.5. It was entertaining. I enjoyed it but it didn’t really hit any sweet spots for me. I think I would have liked to have seen more character interactions. I don’t feel I got to know any of the males well enough throughout the story. Also the end of the bad guy was so quick and neat it wasn’t satisfying enough. Almost like we’ll kill him off quick to get to the banging but even the banging was then cut short. I feel a bit cheated. Loved some of the side characters. I’d love to hear more about the town and the colourful characters there. The foot fetish weirded me out but hey I’m Not here to kink shame. Still enjoyable though.
I love this duo. I truly, sincerely do. Each story they produce surpasses the last, and are filled with an assortment of nods to popular culture. Thank you, Vera Valentine and J.L. Logosz, for your continuing literary genius. And thank you, US Consumer Product Safety Commission, for your flaming skeleton, which drew these two awesome authors together for our reading pleasure.
Well, I don't know how I feel about this one. I liked the struggle between the MCs and the antagonist, but I was struggling a little bit at the end. I feel like the concept of dragonlets was just kind of thrown in at the end, and really any hybrid/mixed species pairings wasn't very well explained. But, if you're able to not ask too many questions and just accept what's given for the sake of moving through the book, the relationship between the four MCs is actually quite sweet (and spicy).
I just love everything that comes out of the brain of Vera and JL. I always know it's going to be a treat XD This one might be the most "normal" of their collection, in that it has a very solid traditional fantasy vibe at its base, but still bathes everything in their perfect brand of wild sexyness XD Go read it
This book was very enjoyable! I read it in one sitting. I wish there had been a bit more communication between the characters and I struggled with some of the descriptions. It is single POV and spice is around 🌶🌶. I wish there had been some dirty talk. If you're looking for a quick HEA this is would hit the spot.
This was SO good. My favorite of the holiday hedonism series. First of all, red white and blue DRAGONS? Amazing. Vera and JL are giving Katee a run for their money. If you liked The Dragon’s Bride, you will love this (even if you don’t read it on the 4th of July like I did). It was funny, clever, and 🌶️.
Another classically brilliant, beautiful and sinfully delicious story from Vera Valentine and J.L. Logosz! If you love dragons, magic, sexy times, wonderful characters, and a captivating storyline than look no further!
It started really strong, i loved the Female MC as well as the 3 dragons but by 60% it was hard to get invested in the story. The second part felt really rushed. Also, more smut would have been a real treat '!
Ok, this was kinda cheesy yes. Hardly any spicy scenes at all (three total). I never did get a good picture of the dragons in my mind, and the dialogue all felt very forced. It was cozy, though (other than the revenge at the end).
Wow. Just wow. I went into this fairly blind with expectations of it just being a funny monster romance but wow, it was great. I loved the universe in it, the relationships. It was sweet, steamy, and so much fun.
You know when these 2 authors come together the book will be a riot and the steamiest of smexy. 100% did not disappoint!! Loved the spa scene when she introduced them to…💨.
Funny, sexy, very well written - these authors clearly work very well together and have a lot of fun - and surprisingly sweet, more so than I expected. Enjoyed it!
It turns out that my sister and I have pretty similar tastes in books. I know a book is a 5-star read when I text her after a few chapters with lots of exclamation points.
This was lighthearted and fun. I was expecting it to be hot. I wasn't expecting the laughs, or the subtle as a brick to the face social commentary. I'm definitely going to reread this next year on the 4th.
This book was just okay for me. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I did the previous book in this series. That said I can’t wait to see what the authors come up with for the next book in this series.
