Two novellas from Kennedy Ryan's critically-acclaimed HOOPS Series!
Full-Court Press (formerly appeared in HOOPS Holiday) Avery + Deck's Story MacKenzie Decker was a question Avery never got to ask, much less answer. They met when she was a young reporter fueled by ambition, and the ink on Deck's first NBA contract was barely dry. Years later, they've climbed so high and lost so much, but one thing hasn't changed. The attraction that simmered between them in a locker room before is still there. With success like theirs, everything has been possible . . . except them. But that was then. The only question is...what about now?
Fast Break Quinn + Ean's Story
Quinn I was a world-class runner once. My dreams had wings spun from wind and speed. Every time out of the blocks was a glorious flight. But then I crashed and burned. When I lost my leg, I thought it was the finish line Little did I know, life was just beginning Now they call me “America’s Titanium Sweetheart.” (What can I say? It tested well. LOL) The life I thought was over is moving so fast. I have my own gym, a fitness app, a clothing line, and an endless trail of endorsements. One thing there’s never time for? Love. One thing I don’t have time for? Games. Come real, or don’t come at all. In a field full of players, I’m looking for a real one. Otherwise, I won’t stop.
Ean I had hoops dreams. I wanted to be like Mike, jump like Magic and soar like Dr. J. But a college injury grounded me. What I thought was game over, actually opened up a whole new world. Fast forward to now. I’m coaching some of the NBA’s best. They call me The Machine because I’m obsessed with stats and data, and my near-photographic memory means I remember every play. I see the court clearly. But I never saw her coming. Quinn Barrow stops me in my tracks. Pursuing my first championship, there’s been no time for love. I’m more than willing to chase her, but will she slow down long enough to be caught?
I write contemporary romance and women's fiction. I always give my characters their happily ever after, but I love to make them work for it! It's a long road to love, so sit back and enjoy the ride.
I am wife to the love of my life, mom to a special, beautiful son, and a friend to those living with autism through my charitable foundation.
What a great novella collection. Loved it! Especially Quinn’s story…loved her determination and resilience. I hope Kennedy Ryan expands on these stories someday.
These 2 stories set in the Hoops world were good. I liked that with the first one Deck and Avery were older and wiser and didn't let a good thing go. Much the same could be said with the second one with Quinn and Ean. I was glad that Quinn let Ean in, she deserved so much good in her life.
Kennedy Ryan and her amazing storytelling. Even in a novella, her emotional and deeply powerful words are for a novella to feel like a full novel. A second chance romance - Two people who meet in a locker room, the NBA Star, Decker and the reporter, Avery. But life has a way of not being the right time.....but 10 years later, the time just might be right. But time and life has a way of making romance difficult. The author creates a story that is fully deep and emotional. The discovery of love between Decker and Avery is a slow burn, full of sexual tension and eventually blissful love.
Fast Break-
Kennedy Ryan is masterful. A novella that is absolutely perfect in every way. Its construction is flawless as is the storytelling. You get completely immersed in the characters and before you know it, the epilogue appears and it’s over.
Quinn Barrows is someone you want to be friends with. She is amazing, strong, resilient, and a woman whose has dealt with adversity and risen above anything she could have imagined. Ean Jagger is a man who decides that in order to get what he wants he has to go after what he wants at all cost. Quinn and Ean’s relationship is full of great banter and deep emotions. While the novella is short, a full and emotional story is given to the readers.
It was great to see Banner Morales-Foster make a cameo along with August West. And let me just say, this novella is not to be missed!! It’s perfect in every way❤️
The HOOPS novella collection includes Full Court Press (Avery + Deck's story) and Fast Break (Quinn + Ean's story). I recommend reading Full Court Press after you've read Long Shot and Block Shot. Fast Break can be read before or after Hook Shot.
Fast Break - I loved Quinn's character when she was introduced in Block Shot. She held out for the type of love she deserved, and Ean more than showed her how devoted and interested he had been for years. It was quick and to the point, but the author was still able to deliver emotions, intimacy and a great epilogue with a time jump that made me smile!
I thought this would be about the previous couples in the series but I’m not mad it wasn’t. I loved getting to know these characters too and especially Ean and Quinn’s story! Quinn deserves everything good in life<333
Hoops Shorts is a new novella collection part of Kennedy Ryan’s Hoops series. Both novellas in this were previously published, Full-Court Press was featured in Hoops Holiday and Fast Break was featured in the sports anthology Team Player.
>>>Full-Court Press Avery is a sports journalist, Mac is a retired basketball player. They met 10 years ago when his towel dropped during a locker room after-game interview. Mac had already tried asking out Avery but she turned him down and faced ridicule from her male co-workers. Now they meet up again a decade later when he steps in to co-host with her on her sports live chat show. Mac wants her still and is working hard to convince her. Avery is still dealing with grief and pain from the loss of her fiancé. I loved how meant to be Mac and Avery were, he was there for her grief but also to help her feel again and pick up all the pieces with her. Such a beautiful story! CW: grief, depression, discussion of suicide of a loved one
>>>Fast Break “She turns my head. She speeds my pulse. She makes me want to slow down.”
Ean is 40-years-old and a busy NBA coach (for the team Long Shot’s August West plays for). While speaking at August’s basketball camp he sees the next guest speaker is Quinn and sticks around for her discussion. Quinn is doing it all, the former world class sprinter-turned limb loss activist owns a gym in LA, has a fitness app, a NYT bestseller, and is an international speaker. And Ean cannot get enough of Quinn, he hasn’t been able to stop thinking of her from when he first saw her years ago. He doesn’t let the chance to ask her out on a date pass him by, he even travels to one of her jam-packed scheduled of speaking engagements to ask her out! I loved seeing these two together and how they both overcame obstacles in their lives and love the life they are leading right now. The passion and connection they have was just everything! I also loved seeing Banner in this as well, she’s Quinn’s best friend. CW: reference to a past suicide attempt
I realized I'd already read Avery's story when reading Hoops Holiday so this review is for Ean and Quinn's story only.
The smut was jaw dropping! What??? These two were wild. I've loved Quinn since she got introduced in the Hoops story, and I was happy she got her happily ever after. Also, Banner made a cameo!!! I just wish this was longer.
Fast break deserved to be longer, better developed and slower paced. It was good, but it had the potential to be so much more!
Wow, this novella may be tiny but it is packing with so much depth. I never expected to go into it thinking of all the emotions it would have be in. Two very excellent stories about overcoming struggles and gaining strength even in what seems like life altering forever.
Also, I did read them out of order from other series but oh well. Loved these two short stories!
I love the HOOPS series and am excited that the sexy and poignant novellas from the HOOPS world are now together in one set!
~ FULL COURT PRESS I absolutely loved Avery and Deck's second chance romance! I first read and loved their story in Full Court Press, when it was originally published in the TEAM PLAYER Anthology. To my delight, Ms Ryan has expanded this already emotional and beautiful romance with all new content and epilogue, making it even more perfect! This story is about the meeting of two souls when they were just beginning their careers. Avery and Deck made an electric connection, but at the wrong time, making it awkward, and embarrassing. They have never forgotten each other and have frequently thought about the 'What If's'. Now years later they are thrust together again, but they are not the same people. They both have suffered in different ways. I loved Deck and his determination to make amends and to finally make Avery his.
"It was my chance to unwind the labyrinth that has been Avery all these years. To understand her and get a glimpse of what’s beneath all that control. It’s beautiful. So beautiful that now I’m addicted to her honesty and her vulnerability and her boldness and her brand of brokenness."
This is a poignant tale filled with sexual tension and second chances. Ms Ryan created an exquisite story that moved me to tears and made me believe in soul mates.
~ FAST BREAK takes us on a touching, poignant, and sexy journey. It is so exquisitely written that once I started, I couldn't stop reading until the very last word. Ean and Quinn are so great together. Quinn is a survivor, learning what true beauty is and being blessed for it. Ean is the new coach for the San Diego Waves Basketball Team. He has wanted to meet Quinn for over a year, being captivated by her resilience, passion and fire. He isn't easily deterred when she keeps her distance. He's a fighter and isn't afraid to work and prove to her that he is her perfect match. I loved this story so much! This may be a quick story, but it is so alluring and seductive and makes you feel every emotion. I loved every moment of this beautiful romance, wanting more, but was totally satisfied.
Ms. Ryan is extremely consistent at what she does. I had read the first short before and it mattered not to my heart, I still felt deeply for Avery. The first short was about Avery and Deck finally taking a chance on the chemistry between them. When they first meet it was energy and something else between them. Life happens and they move on separately. Ten years later they find themselves with a second chance. Avery is now a big time journalist and Deck is finding his way post amazing NBA career. Their paths cross and that undercurrent of energy still runs between them. Needless to say they struggle with the demands of their careers, but Avery struggles to overcome her past relationship that came to a devastating end. Deck however is so sweet, patient, and understanding as he encourages her to take the time to heal because he wants it all with her. I admired their love because I was tired for them as they found ways to ensure that their relationship worked. The second short I had not read and it had me boohooing. Quinn was running in the Olympics when her life would forever change. She wakes up and realizes everything she had pushed herself for was no longer possible. She found herself wondering if there was anything to live for. Enters Banner one of my faves from the Hoops' series to help her find a new purpose. That purpose eventually leads to the admiration of Coach Jagger. I mean she had the man enthralled; jumping through hoops like he wasn't an NBA coach with a tight schedule. Fear and self doubt damn near ended them before they got started. Luckily Jag stayed the course and they both got to experience a love neither of them knew was possible.
I gave y'all the sweet version of both stories, but in the midst of all this love there was some firework love making that added all types of spice. Two short reads worth the time. In fact read the ENTIRE Hoops series, I'm telling you, you will not regret it.
Fast Break Ms. Ryan can sure pack a punch into a limited amount of words. And you know you're going to get some sort of life lesson when you read one of her books, and Fast Break was no different. If you don't come through this story inspired and wanting to do more with yourself, Quinn would be disappointed! I loved how persistent Ean was with Quinn, without being overly stalkerish. She was leery of falling for his charms, and who could blame her after all she'd been through. But he made sure to show her that he "saw" her, and that was just so swoony and endearing.
Full Court Press Lyrical and poetic- 2 words you wouldn't think to connect with a sports romance, but that's what you get when Kennedy Ryan is the author. If you've read any of her other books just know, even though this is a novella, the writing is everything you've come to expect from her. Avery and Decker's story is a compelling second chance romance that will have leave your heart soaring and asking for more.
3.5/5⭐️ "Throw away the idea of getting back to your life as it was and embrace the idea of stepping into life as it is and all that it can be." These were cute short stories about two strong women allowing themselves to be loved right after great losses and heartbreaks. My favorite of the two was Decker's & Avery's ( I'll choose a second chance romance every single time😅).I wish Ean's & Quinn's story was a bit longer as it had the potential to be so much more. I loved Quinn's representation of her struggles(she's an amputee) and Avery's in dealing with her ex-fiance's suicide. An overall enjoyable collection.
These shorts were a nice edition to the Hoops series. I especially loved reading about Quinn and her triumphing over the loss of her leg and subsequent nearly fatal depression. Even fictional "wins" inspire me to keep going when I'm feeling low and so I'm grateful to read uplifting endings like the ones found not only in both of these short stories, but in the Hoops series altogether. Kennedy Ryan writes some great books. ❤
4.5 ⭐️ I really enjoyed this collection from the Hoops series. We get two novellas; Full Court Press and Fast Break- I personally enjoyed Fast Break more and kinda wish we got a full story of Quinn and Ean but this was good! And the spice was spicing 🌶️ You do get a crossover of characters from all three books in the novella which was nice and a good refresher especially if you didn’t read each book consecutively.
I loved these shorts. Full Court Press was my favorite of the two, but this could be that it was a little longer and more in-depth than Fast Break. Both were beautiful stories with strong FMC and the MMC falls first. I absolutely loved Deck. The way he loves Avery had me balling my eyes out. As always with Kennedy’s books - highly recommend the audio book!
Kennedy is one of my favorite authors and even her short stories / novellas are full of steamy sensual loving couples with strong FMC and amazing stories lines 🤩
The two novellas contained in HOOPS SHORTS by Kennedy Ryan are both featured in different romance anthologies. However, they truly belong in the same space - their own volume next to the other books in the HOOPS Series. They deserve to be savored and cherished like the other thought-provoking stories Kennedy Ryan's magnificent mind has created.
FULL COURT PRESS is a captivating story of second chances at love, basketball, and the world of sports media. Mack Decker and Avery Hughes have an unforgettable first meeting that colors the rest of thier adult lives. The attraction between them is instant, but the love they share is timeless. Theirs is a story riddled with pain and answered by healing.
Mack and Avery are each strong, talent individuals who have made their mark in the sport of basketball and the sportsmedia world. The passion and focus yhat lead to their individual successes make them a perfectly matched pair in love and life. The way Kennedy Ryan breaks down the human condition and finds its perfect parallels from the game of basketball is masterful.
Is a sports novella supposed to make a reader cry? FAST BREAK did that to me. It is gutsy, raw, and filled with a beautiful honesty which pierced my soul.
Quinn Barrow and Ean Jagger are two very charismatic and intriguing characters Kennedy Ryan's readers met earlier in her Hoop Series Novels. It is equally nerve-wracking and magical to watch these two powerhouses connect with each other in this shorter work. Their magnetic attraction combined with the combustible nature of their ineractive chemistry makes for one hot and romantic tale.
In FAST BREAK, Kennedy Ryan writes an inspiring and emotional story that will have you fanning yourself and wiping the tears from your eyes. What is always best about her writing continues to shine true - HOPE. Kennedy always reminds us as long as there is life in one's body, there is hope. She makes us believe we are never so boken that we cannot mend. She reinforces our faith in the belief there is someone out there who will accept us and love us for exactly who we are.
FAST BREAK is truly a story that will stoke the fires which burn deep in heart of romance readers.
This Novella Duo, HOOPS SHORTS, reminds me exactly why Kennedy Ryan is an automatic buy author for my book collection. She never fails to ignite my brain or my heart. Her creations are always delicious food for the soul. These HOOPS SHORTS are no exception.
