Summer on the seaside...a perfect place for romance.
Join us for three novellas in one collection:
'The New Countess' by Josi S. Kilpack
Diane knows why the earl asked her to marry him; he needed a mother for his daughter, an heir for his title, and a hostess to assist with his position in Parliament. With two sons of her own, and no security to speak of, she never thought twice about accepting his proposal. Summering at his holiday cottage at the sea was meant to be reward for a busy first year as the new countess, and a time for her to rest before their baby is born. She is expecting lazy days on the beach with the children, simple meals, and keeping her own schedule. When the earl surprises her with a visit, she does her best not to resent the intrusion. When she learns that he came for the sole purpose of being with her and getting to know her better, she realizes that perhaps this marriage can be more than she expected. Is she ready for him to know her and love her and explore this new possibility together? She wants to be, but it is not an easy thing to let go of expectations and open up to an entirely new way of life.
'Mishaps and Memories' by Martha Keyes
Judith Jardine’s one chance at a brilliant match is doomed from the start when she is ignored and then mocked by the ton’s most sought-after gentleman. Under a gloomy cloud of failure, Judith is exiled to a seaside cottage to spend the summer helping her sister—and living a life far below the one she experienced for her week in Brighton. When she discovers the man responsible for her misfortune unconscious on the beach, she heeds her better impulses and has him brought to the cottage to be seen to. But James Carlisle has no recollection of who he is, what happened to him, or how he has wronged her, and Judith sees the opportunity to teach him a valuable lesson—unless the deception and her feelings get the best of her first.
'Moonlight Summer' by Heather B. Moore
Oscar Rosewell’s life is not lacking in many things even though he lives on the fringes of society due to his father’s ruined reputation. He’s sworn off having any personal relationships with ton members—his only interest lies in keeping his business thriving. He’s content with his day-to-day anonymity, and business keeps his heart from getting exposed. It’s safer that way. Until Oscar meets Miss Dorothea Atkinson. A woman capturing his interest is a rare thing, but Miss Atkinson is nearly engaged to a man of her parents’ choosing. Would it be wrong to wish for something to go terribly wrong between the couple? Soon, Oscar learns that wishing can become a reality, but often, the price is an even heavier thing to pay.
From the publisher of the USA TODAY best-selling and number-one Amazon best-selling Timeless Romance Anthology series in Regency Romance: 'A Seaside Summer' is a Timeless Romance Anthology book
Timeless Romance Anthology is a registered trademark of Mirror Press, LLC.
I wrote my first book while on bed rest with my third child in 1998 and haven't stopped. My most recent books have been Historical Romance through the Proper Romance line with Shadow Mountain Publishing.
I currently live in Willard, Utah with my husband, and children.
Another great collection in the Timeless Romance Anthologies. I just love these so much! And what a great way to finish up celebrating summertime than with three lovely novellas set at the seaside during the summer. I loved all three. They had me swooning, sighing, laughing and crying (yes, I may have shed a few tears)!
The New Countess by Josi Kilpack 5* I absolutely adored this one!!! It is my favorite of the three. Josi wrote the emotions of this new countess so well. She finds herself finally at a seaside cottage ready to just enjoy being with her boys and her new husband's young daughter. Enjoy calm summer days of just relaxing and playing with the kids. But her plans are interrupted. Ha! I could feel her emotions radiating off the pages. I loved it. Her past plays into it as well. I really enjoyed watching her stopping to think about what it truly was that she wanted. And learning to talk and figure out how to make that happen with her family. Sooooo good!!!!
Content: Clean. Some mild innuendos between a married couple. Nothing graphic.
Mishaps and Memories by Martha Keyes 4.5* I laughed and giggled over our heroine in this novella. Although, I did feel sorry for her at first. Poor thing being turned into a joke. But when fate has a hand in fixing things for her, she makes a choice that sets in motion some pretty humorous turns of events. You'll laugh a lot in this one and her antics. Note to self, once you've insulted a girl, don't get amnesia!!!
Content: Clean. The hero calls himself a donkey a few times in the story.
Moonlight Summer by Heather B. Moore 5* Our lovely heroine finds herself vacationing with her mother's new husband and his family. And discovers she's going to be betrothed to someone of her stepfather's choosing. Resigned to her fate, she tries to find joy in life around her. The initial meeting of our hero and heroine in this novella was pretty humorous. A wayward hat, a wandering child, the sea, swimming, and a kind stranger all play into the humor. Moonlight visits and building friendships make this one delightful. The chemistry was sweet and gentle but very present between these two characters.
Content: Clean.
I received a copy from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
This collection of stories is absolutely delightful! It was a breath of fresh air after attempting to read a different Regency with an overabundance of aggravating drama. These stories seem light, but they have such well-developed characters, especially for shorter stories, that draw me into their world immediately and I feel connected to their struggles and happiness. The seaside setting is lovely, and one I've always enjoyed. There is something grounding about the ocean and the breaking of waves on the shore, and I felt that influence as I read the first story. Diane revels in the precious time she spends there with her children, a respite from the busy responsibilities as a new countess. I could understand her feelings of frustration to have that time disrupted, and it was interesting to see the social norms and habits that might have driven them apart. I loved seeing them each sacrifice and compromise as they worked to grow closer to each other.
The second story is a fun one, with some amnesia and revenge that humbles more than who it was intended for. I was glued to the pages to see how it would all turn out in the end, which was happily satisfying. The third story was one with more emotion for me, and I thought the paths that each character took were beautiful. Oscar's withdrawal from high society gave him time to develop a strong business, but his interactions with Dottie make him realize his loneliness. Dottie seems to be misplaced in her newly formed family, and pressure from her mother and stepfather make her feel unwanted. Their unexpected meetings form a natural friendship with simmering chemistry, and even though the past tries to separate them in the beginning, the secrets that are eventually revealed make it possible for healing to take place. This is a collection that I will be reading again! Highly recommend!

The perfect little collection of regency novellas all set by the sea. I must admit I jumped on this opportunity to read more of Martha’s stories and was not disappointed.
The New Countess: an exploration of two newly married adults who have each lost a spouse. It’s a marriage of convenience that melds into more. I enjoyed the willingness and growth of each person to make their marriage more than just a contract. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Mishaps and Memories: This novella was the standout for me. I laughed, I smiled, and I swooned. A bad first impression and a bit of amnesia makes this romance shine. I loved the banter. Adored the characters and wish it would have been full length. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Moonlight Summer: This one has an adorable meet cute. I loved these two characters and how the early stages of their relationship grows on the pages. I only wish it would have been longer so we could have seen them more in courtship ♥️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Highly recommend. All are authors I’ve read full lengths from and have adored. It’s always satisfying when you can finish a story in a day and this was a standout collection for me.
Beautiful romantic stories I never wanted to end, yet the last ending should have lasted a lot longer. 😉 I’ve decided that Timeless Regency Collections are absolute worth of sleepless nights.
I really enjoy these Timeless Collections from Mirror Press, whether it be the romance anthologies or the Regency, Victorian or Western collections. They give me the chance to try some authors I might not have read yet, as well as get a ‘fix’ of some of my faves in between their longer novels. A Seaside Summer is part of the Timeless Regency Collection, and I fell in love with the cover right away.
Then I opened the book…
And promptly fell in love with each story, too. All 3 novellas are unique in their story lines and styles, and they each contain well-developed characters and plots, despite the shorter word count.
In “A New Countess” by Josi S. Kilpack, we meet a couple married for convenience who, though they have established a friendly relationship, are still learning how to coexist and haven’t quite made it past the ‘formal and polite’ stage with each other. I could totally relate to Diane and her desire for a laid-back vacation at the shore without having to be ‘on’ as countess (I mean… the introvert in me gets the need to not be ‘on’… the non-countess in me has no frame of reference lol), and then her frustration at having that casual schedule interrupted. Watching her and the earl adjust to each other’s needs – as they begin to realize that perhaps a marriage of love isn’t so farfetched – was sweet and heartwarming.
“Mishaps and Memories” is my first read by Martha Keyes, to my recollection, and I really enjoyed it! It’s a very cute & sweet story with some humorous scenes and a couple of swoony kisses! When Judith gets the chance to give the man who insulted her the comeuppance he deserves, she takes it. This results in several giggle-inducing situations as we all wait with bated breath to see what will happen once James gets his memory back. In fact, James was my favorite character in this one, and I enjoyed watching him flounder and flirt and fall in love. A witty reminder that, sometimes, when we set out to teach someone a lesson, it backfires… and, sometimes, that’s a very good thing!
I don’t think I’ve read a full length book by Heather B. Moore yet, though I’ve greatly enjoyed the collections she’s been in that I have read. And I absolutely loved “Moonlight Summer” – my favorite of the 3 stories in this collection. Dottie & Oscar claimed my heart, and the tender undertones of this novella did too. Notes of humor keep it from being too maudlin, but overall this is such a sweet romance – and oh my goodness, Oscar. He is such a swoony hero because he’s considerate and respectful and intentional. I loved their relationship from their meet-cute to their first kiss, and all their moonlight talks in between.
Bottom Line: A Seaside Summer is a collection of skillfully written novellas which incorporate everything lovely about the regency era, the seashore, and romance without sugarcoating either element or sacrificing character development. Kilpack, Keyes, and Moore bring their unique voices to their respective stories, giving readers a taste of their writing and undoubtedly gaining some new fans in the process. Even as summer begins to fade to fall, this last trip to the seashore is a perfect choice for your next weekend read!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
Part of the Timeless Regency Collection, A Seaside Summer is an anthology of three stand alone Regency Romance novellas written by three well-known and talented writers. The novellas range from 77 to 109 pages in length, and each takes place near various seaside locales in the summer. I hope this break down is helpful!
THE NEW COUNTESS – Josi S. Kilpack
- The Premise: Lady Avery is luxuriating in a simple summer holiday away from formality, society, and schedules until her husband spontaneously arrives and brings with him unwanted duties, expectations, and intrusive obligations…
- My Thoughts: What an honest look at a seemingly content marriage of convenience, and an apt reminder that surface-level relationships are never satisfying or longterm successful. I loved seeing all the steps and learning this married couple went through, especially the moments they started to drop their facades and say what was truly in the hearts. In addition, I was completely endeared by the children, and I loved witnessing their bonds with their new parents and siblings become more tightly knit together.
MISHAPS AND MEMORIIES – Martha Keyes
- The Premise: At a fateful ball in Brighton James Carlisle was an unforgivably rude and insulting dinner companion to Judith Jardine. And when she discovers him unconscious on the beach and unable to remember who he is, she decides some harmless retribution is in order…
- My Thoughts: It’s a Regency Overboard! Haha! It was quite a delicious farce to see such an elevated and eligible gentleman contentedly doing the drudge work of a servant…even when his memory return. Even though there were some instances that required the reader to suspend some disbelief a little, I enjoyed the entertaining tangle of webs both characters wove together and the fun of anticipating when the truth would be revealed!
MOONLIGHT SUMMER – Heather B. Moore
- The Premise: Dorothea Atkinson is trying to resign herself to an arranged marriage of her stepfather’s choosing when she encounters a kind but socially ostracized gentleman by the sea…
- My Thoughts: I LOVED every meeting between these two characters – they say so little, yet it is feels so important and meaningful. I loved how they had matching gentle natures, kind hearts, and hidden backbones of steel. I enjoyed hearing about their sketches and I loved that they had a special place where they individually and jointly found solace. I especially loved the honorable actions of both of these characters. My favorite!
CONCLUSION:
Not sure if this was intentional or coincidental, but one element that all three novellas had in common was that they all portrayed characters with limited options. Whether it was because they lacked wealth or security, suffered from societal disdain, or were coerced by family – these women (and sometimes men) had to contemplate and, in some cases, accept marriages without love because they had no other alternatives. How fortunate they are that it all turned out well!
A Seaside Summer is a most delightful and romantic escape to shore, replete with some favorite summertime pursuits – swimming, fishing, and moonlight strolls on the beach. Each story is sincere, modest, and exquisite – I thoroughly enjoyed them all!
I was so excited to read this set. A combination of the sea and a Regency romance was so soothing to the soul and caught my interest. I love these collections because each story is just the right size and they're so different, yet have that common thread running through them.
The New Countess is a novella full of hope. I loved how it unfolded, and the way Michael and Diane interacted was both unconventional and tentatively sweet. I couldn't help but laugh at Michael's attempts to fit in and Diane's determination to stick to her plan. This is such a sweet story.
James and Judith's hilarious situation in Mishaps and Memories was trouble waiting to happen. I loved how spunky Judith sought her revenge on the arrogant James and the result was a deliciously delightful story that completely captivated me.
Oscar and Dottie were the perfect end to this set. Moonlight Summer is all about love, change, and redemption and gave me all the feels. I love stories like this--I feel such a deep longing for a beautiful resolution and Moore does a great job of creating emotion and connection.
This whole set was the perfect cap to end the summer and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Content: mild romance
*I received a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.*
Judith Jardin is out of her element, attending a country house party with a friend. James Carlisle, the gentleman seated by her at dinner, does not do his social duty properly, which is awkward for Judith. She's naturally mortified when she accidentally gets sardines all over him, and she is dubbed ...
Miss Sardine. She'll never live it down. While visiting her sister in town, she encounters him again. Minus his memories. She impulsively identifies him as her sister's servant........
This is a set-up that I would normally say, "Okay. This is going to be painful." But really, I loved both characters. They were both imperfect AND likable. Well done!
I would really, really love to be in the setting of these books right now. A seaside summer in England sounds like just the thing. Isn't it lovely that books can transport us to all the places as we read? I love books.
Each of the stories in this book are simply delightful. I loved each one of them. They were engaging and the characters made me smile. Well, Judith probably made me smile the most. The first story was the most endearing, I think. The second story, the most amusing and the third story had the sweetest characters. Oh, and I have to say that I love the cover on this book. It's beautiful and really set the stage for the movies that played out in my head as I read.

A Seaside Summer is a collection of novellas by Josi S. Kilpack, Martha Keyes, and Heather B. Moore. I have enjoyed books by all of these authors and was excited to read these! Each book is set at the seaside and all are clean regency romances. The New Countess by Josi S. Kilpack Diane understood why she was chosen to marry the earl, he needed a mother for his daughter, an heir, and a hostess. Her acceptance was for her and her two sons’ security. Now, she has a holiday at the seaside to rest before the birth of their child. Days of lazy beach days with her children, simplicity of meals and schedule, is exactly what she wants. The earl’s surprise visit is not a welcome one, though she does her best to adjust. However, she is surprised when she realizes he has come to get to know her and spend time with her. Will they be able to move forward and create a true marriage? I really enjoyed this novella! It had a more formal feel, more like the writing of Jane Austen than a contemporary novel. It was nice to read a different sort of story as well. It was a very sweet story and I really enjoyed watching Diane and Michael get to know each other. It seemed very realistic. I also thought that the interactions with the children were so cute. Mishaps and Memories by Martha Keyes After Judith Jardine’s chance at a good match is ruined when she is first ignored then humiliated by the ton’s most popular gentlemen, she is sent to help her sister for the summer. At the seaside cottage, she is forced to work and live a life far below her previous hopes. The discovery of the man responsible for her misfortune unconscious on the beach is a shock to her. However, she takes him to the cottage for care, and soon discovers that he has lost his memory. So she decides to teach him a lesson, until the deception and her feelings begin to go too far. This story was so fun! I was a little nervous, because I sometimes have trouble with deception. However, I did enjoy it. Judith was such a determined character. She really did not like James, but at the same time she had a hard time continuing to dislike him as she got to know him. It was really funny to watch James try to maneuver without his memories, especially with Judith’s meddling. I also liked how they were able to get to know each other, in a more unusual way for that time period. James was very sweet and I thought that they were very cute together! Moonlight Summer by Heather B. Moore Oscar Rosewell is content with his life, even if it is on the outside of society. With his father’s ruined reputation, he only wants to keep his business and protect himself. However, meeting Miss Dorthea Atkinson changes his perspective, until he realizes that she is practically engaged to a man of her parents’ choosing. What can he do? This novella was also super cute! I really like both Dorthea and Oscar, they were relatable and really nice. I enjoyed reading their story, as they deal with the problems that are before them and their relationship. It was very intriguing too! I was not expecting some of the plot twists, which made it a very exciting read. Overall, I really enjoyed all of these stories and would definitely recommend it to Regency fans!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
This trilogy of short seaside-themed stories was just the sort of light, pick-me-up kind of reading I needed for the end of summer. I really enjoyed each story and would recommend this book to lovers of regency or historical romance, books set by the sea, or short novella-length stories.
• “The New Countess” by Josi S. Kilpack — Diane & Michael, ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I like the character development and growth in this one. There is a lot of uncomfortable interaction between Diane and Michael and the tension feels real. But I loved how things ended up being resolved and they figured things out. I only wished they’d figured it out sooner so we could get more romance between them.
• “Mishaps and Memories” by Martha Keyes — Judith and James, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My favorite of the three novellas! I loved how Judith and James were both clearly flawed but they grew together, even without realizing it. I loved how much they developed and grew, even for a short story. The nickname for Judith was clever if a bit mean, but I admit it made me chuckle. I guess that makes me a mean person. I loved Judith’s revenge plot and how it came to bite her. But I also loved how much James changed and how his heart warmed to Judith and her circumstances. The scene on the little fishing boat was so good! And I really loved the ending. The entire book was a happy reading adventure. So well done! I loved it!
• “Moonlight Summer” by Heather B. Moore—Dottie and Oscar, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This story is just adorable. Heather changed my mind about several of the characters in this one and I loved that. I liked how Dottie and Oscar got to know one another in an unconventional way but were also proper with one another. They quickly became friends before there was anything else between them and I always love that. I especially loved how they had each given up hope on their own happily ever after only to find it when they least suspected it. So charming. (Oh, and Oscar’s aunt is hilarious.)
This was a really cute collection of novels that make me want to travel to the British coasts. All three authors have written full-length novels that I've loved so I was really excited to get to read this anthology. It did not disappoint and was full of some adorable moments I really enjoyed reading. The New Countess by Josi Kilpack 4 stars I was definitely interested in the characters and the plot of this novella. It captured my attention right away. I loved how original the story itself was with it being the second marriage for each of the main characters and I think the way the author wrote the communication and tension between the two was fabulous. The pacing was the only thing I wished was slightly different. I wanted like one more chapter at the very end, though I am super glad there was an epilogue. Mishaps and Memories by Martha Keyes 5 stars This novella had me smiling and laughing. It was absolutely adorable! I loved the dual POV and was completely hooked and invested in the story. The pacing was really well done and I felt completely satisfied with the ending. Definitely a standout. Moonlight Summer by Heather Moore 4 stars I really enjoyed this novella. The characters were endearing and I liked their interactions a lot. I was definitely curious how things would work between the two and loved the ending. It felt original and was really sweet. Overall, I highly recommend this collection and these authors. This is a clean Regency collection with plenty of swoon and heartfelt moments. I received an advance reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A perfectly delightful collection of regency novellas that all take place near the sea! The storylines were all so different yet I thoroughly enjoyed each one. Highly recommend this collection to any lover of regency romance!
The New Countess was the story of a newly married couple who had both lost their first spouses and are trying to blend their families and get to know each other more. I was cheering on both main characters and could relate to the hilarious moments around the family dinner table. 4.5 stars as the ending felt a little abrupt.
Mishaps and Memories was the regency version of the movie Overboard. Very memorable meet cute and the story has lots of fun laughs, cute moments, and the romance is oh so very sweet! 5 stars
Moonlight Summer is the story of two lonely people who happen to meet by chance on the beach. They rendezvous each night just to talk to each other and keep one another's company. They both long for more but there are definitely complications standing in their way. 4.5 stars only because I would have loved to have an epilogue or even one more chapter to finish out their story.
I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.
Have I ever said how much I love these collections? LOL, I know I say it every time but it's true. I get 3 complete novellas that feel like books from some of my favorite authors and I have also found new authors. These are all set by the seaside during summer but they're all different settings with different backstories. *happy sigh*
The New Countess by Josi Kilpack 5*--I think this is my favorite story of the three. Diane is enjoying her seaside holiday with just the children when her husband's unexpected arrival changes everything and suddenly her peaceful holiday to recuperate from the London Season and prepare for the birth of her child has come to an end. I felt so much for Diane and could feel her frustration through my Kindle. I liked how she and her husband were able to talk about what they each wanted and compromise.
Mishaps and Memories by Martha Keyes 4*--The author said this story was inspired by the movie Overboard (Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell) and I could definitely see the similarities. Judith Jardine has an opportunity to have a Season but it's cut short but an unfortunate event that turned her into a butt of a joke and squelched her opportunity for a match. When she stumbles upon the man who caused her pain and he has amnesia, she decides to get her revenge. That leads to several hilarious events.
Moonlight Summer by Heather B. Moore 5*--Oscar's ruined reputation and Dorothea's (Dottie) an unwanted arranged marriage make for the beginning a sweet friendship. I liked that Oscar was so taken with Dottie he was willing to put himself back into Society to spend time with her. I felt bad for Dottie because her relationship with her mother seemed to have changed drastically since her mother remarried. Dottie also didn't fit in well with her new step-family, who suddenly wanted her married and out of the house. I liked the developing friendship between Oscar and Dottie.
I received a complimentary copy for review. All thoughts expressed in my review are my own.
I also listened to the audible edition of this book and the narrator is fantastic, especially with the children's voices. It was a fun book to listen to.
As we near the end of summer, it was wonderful to take a holiday to the sea with this collection!
In The New Countess Dianne and Lord Avery have both lost their spouses and recently remarried. She takes their children to the sea (her 2 sons and his daughter) for a relaxed holiday where she doesn't have to live up to the role of countess. All her plans go awry when Lord Avery has the nerve to join them. I loved seeing these two find themselves in their marriage. I kept wanting to yell at them to TALK to each other. Spoiler: they eventually do.
Mishaps and Memories was hilarious! Judith Jardine meets James Carlisle as a dinner where he ignores her, until a mishap with the fish course leads him to utter the cleverly cruel moniker Miss Sardine. When he washes up on the beach near Judith's sister's house with no memory, what is she supposed to do besides get revenge? I loved the humor, and the humbling moments for James and Judith.
If you like this story, Rachael Anderson wrote a full length novel, The Fall of Lord Drayson with the amnesia trope.
In Moonlight Summer, Dottie and her new step-family go to a small beachside town. A kind gentleman saves her young stepsister's hat from the ocean waves. He's kind, engaging, and also forbidden by her step-father. He's already arranging a marriage for her. I wanted to fight for Dottie in her family. Besides her little sister, it seemed like everyone wanted to tell her what to do, but didn't care about her opinions or happiness. Oscar Rosewell was a godsend! Finally someone to listen to and value Dottie! I loved the clandestine meetings, the sweet moments with her sister, and seeing things come together in the end.
Content: clean (implied intimacy in marriage, a few references to an ass-the animal, and some sweet kisses)
THE NEW COUNTESS - JOSI S. KILPACK - 5 stars: This first novella in the book was wonderful. It was my first book by Josi S. Kilpack and I was right from the start taken with her beautiful writing. Making me feel the hopes and frustrations of both MMC and FMC, getting me to care for them and their happiness, and additionally showing me an aristocratic couples' life with small children that has not just joy but also frustrations and quarrels ALL WITHIN 80 PAGES is something special!
MISHAPS AND MEMORIES - MARTHA KEYES - 3,5 stars: I had chosen this book because of Martha Keyes' contribution. While I love many of her books, this novella was not a favorite for me. I don't like plots with ongoing lies very much. Besides that, the novella was all right, but I'd rate it just 3,5 stars not more.
MOONLIGHT SUMMER - HEATHER B. MOORE - 4 stars : Sweet novella. The conflict resolved in a rather convenient way in my opinion, but overall I enjoyed this novella a lot. 4 stars.
What a delightful novella collection! While I've seen other books in the Timeless Regency Collection (and I think I even have a couple on my Kindle), A Seaside Summer is the first that I've read. If this is any indication of the quality of the series, then I think I have some serious catching up to do!
Each novella is unique, and each is quite enjoyable. I read the book in three sittings - one novella at a time. It was a great way to pass a few car rides! All of the stories had unique aspects to them; they weren't cookie cutter romances. I think fans of Regency romance will really like this book.
Disclosure of material connection: I received this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and the opinions expressed are my own.
The perfect summer read. Oh how I long to be at the beach. I really enjoyed this collection.
The New Countess - This was a sweet romance. I enjoyed reading about Diane and Michael getting to know each other. There were a few bumps along the way, but they were both willing to work it out.
Mishaps and Memories - I love a good enemies to lovers story and throw in some amnesia and it's bound to be a great story. I really enjoyed James and Judith's story.
Moonlight Summer - Frustrating parents aside this was a sweet story. I loved Oscar and Dottie's relationship. They were so good for each other.
Just another amazing collection of stories! I love reading these kinds of books and this one had stories that left me feeling sad when they ended because I didn't want them to end.
I enjoyed this collection of novellas that gave me chance to travel to the seaside in Regency times. The stories were sweet. I particularly enjoyed Mishaps and Memories, since it was such a fun premise. This is a delightful collection to pick up and enjoy!
This was three fabulous little escapes for me. Just when I think I know how these stories are supposed to go, they go and write something totally fresh and new.
A New Countess - by Josi Kilpack was fantastic foray into a couple that were married and had been married before. The beauty of the blended family as well as the newness of the relationship to them brought a need for communication which happened in an organic and lovely way.
Mishaps and Memories - by Martha Keyes was a young man coming into his own and going around his father's desires for his marriage. There was a bit of memory loss and a little revenge which became the perfect remedy to this young man's self-absorbed nature.
Moonlight Summer - by Heather B Moore brought the aspect of a potential arranged marriage going against the desires of a girl's heart. There are mysterious aspects that come to light that make everything more clear.
I loved each of these stories on their own and I loved them as a set even though they were each so different. This anthology brought a wonderful escape that I would love to spend summer by the seaside over and over again. This collection of authors is strong with strong writing. The characters were developed and progressed which is extremely difficult in a Novella. They managed to keep the tone of the novellas light as well as present a well developed story and conflict.
I received an early copy through the publisher and this is my honest review.
What a fun read! I received an ARC of this book, and I absolutely loved it! It was a very different read from some of the others that I've read from these authors, as it takes place on the seashore, and I enjoyed it immensely. Each story was very unique and I loved following the characters, if only for a short time. Highly recommend!
I LOVE this anthology! Three of my favorite authors have written a sweet, clean regency romance. Each of the stories has amazing characters. The stories are uplifting and heart warming. Thoroughly DELIGHTFUL!
I love the stories in this novella. There are 3 gorgeous love stories. They are perfect, and beautiful, and so great to read something that brings peace and joy in a chaotic world.
I loved this anthology. Each story is so unique. The characters are all very likeable and relatable. I found myself laughing, sighing and cheering for each relationship. I loved how differently the seaside was used in each story. I would definitely recommend this book to sweet romance lovers.
4.5 stars Reading this made me want a trip to the seaside so much! Maybe next summer for me. This year I could only escape to the seaside through this collection of novellas set by the sea. The page limits of a novella can sometimes short change a story but I felt like these fleshed out well enough.
The New Countess by Josi S. Kilpack I very much felt the angst of this couple trying to find their way in their marriage. I love that they learned to communicate so effectively and also to compromise in ways to allow for the other's happiness. Contains references to marital intimacy.
Mishaps and Memories by Martha Keyes This story is aptly named with mishaps and memories very much a part of the story. James really is a jerk in the beginning. He is obtuse in recognizing his own folly so seeing his growth in the story is a great thing. Judith made poor choices as well but it all turns out in the end.
Moonlight Summer by Heather B. Moore This story turned out a little different than I anticipated. I loved Oscar and Dotty both but thought her mother and stepfather were pretty awful. It was a surprise to me to see it was not all that it seemed and the story resolved much more prettily than expected.
Sex: references to marital intimacy, a compromising situation Language: no Violence: no I received a complimentary ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A Seaside Summer is the perfect historical romance to read during a vacation in the summer. This anthology puts together 3 wonderful novellas that have in common a seaside storyline, and therefore give the book a sense of connection, but that differ in everything else, so the reader is faced with a diversity of characters that keep pulling his attention into the book.
“The New Countess” by Josi S. Kilpack is an interesting story which develops the relationship between Lord and Lady Avery, a couple who has recently entered a marriage of convenience after their respective spouses’ deaths. I liked the fact that this was not their first marriage and that they both needed to concede on some aspects, and to give the other an opportunity to be open about their personal preferences and goals to allow their love to grow. Lady Avery started getting on my nerves at a point, but it was also interesting to see her character grow.
“Mishaps and Memories” by Martha Keyes started in a very Pride and Prejudice like manner and it was quite humorous, so it was a fun story to read between the other two. Judith Jardine and James Carlisle romance was implausible at times but endearing to watch. I particularly liked his reaction when regaining his memory and her insecurity towards his feelings.
“Moonlight Summer” by Heather B. Moore was my favorite story in the book and the perfect ending to a captivating anthology. I adored Dorothea Atkinson’s character and loved even more her romantic hero Oscar Rosewell. They were perfect for each other, and their love story was beautiful. This novella is so well written I could clearly visualize every scene in my mind, and even picture Miss Atkinson’s drawings.
In fact, the writing quality is another aspect the three stories have in common as they are all beautifully written and engaging. They were the first contact I had with Josi S. Kilpack, Martha Keyes and Heather B. Moore and they have convinced me to try their other works.
The length of each novella is simply perfect because they were long enough to allow me to get to know the characters and to feel engaged by them, but short enough to be read (or listened to) during a small break between tasks or chores. The past few weeks have been very hectic for me, so I truly appreciated having these stories waiting for me to relax in the little time I had to spare.
Summing up, A Seaside Summer is a beautifully written anthology composed by 3 compelling stories that will give readers a good time during their holidays. Even though these stories are novellas, it was astounding to see how much the authors were able to accomplish in each story when it comes to background context, character development and romance intensity. I highly recommend this book.
A second marriage and a marriage of convenience story that was so well done.
Dianne is a pregnant mom of two and stepmother to one. She has played the role of countess and planned a seaside vacation for she and her three children. Lazy easy days, with simple dinners, just enjoying nature and the simplicity with her children all summer long. As a mother. I can relate. This is the equivalent of a simple summer with cereal for dinner because Dad is out of town.
Matthew missed his wife and children and longs to be with them as a family. He shows up and derails all of Dianne’s plans. This was a page turner and I enjoyed their messy way of communicating and finally getting to know each other and grow as a couple and family.
My favorite line, that I could completely relate to was when Matthew said “I like the idea of eating as a family. It is the reality of such a plan that is proving difficult for me to understand. It has been madness.” Amen Matthew. Amen. Where is a nanny when I need one every night?
Mishaps and memories by Martha Keyes
Enemies to lovers done so humorously! James offends Judith and ruins her reputation leaving her very resentful. When given a chance to teach James a lesson, that chance turns into more then Judith intended. Their cute moments of bonding over situation they find themselves in is charming and often hilarious.
My favorite swoon worthy line: “Had he been wrong to kiss her? If so, he had never wanted so badly to be wrong again- and again”. I loved their vulnerable humble love and the moment in the boat was so sweet.
Moonlight summer by Heather B. Moore
I love books with a few good unexpected twists, and this book had that a few times. How can you fit so much into a Novella? I love both main characters. They were both so genuine and good. I especially loved Dottie and her strong desire to have integrity in all situations. Such a sweet read.
I received an ARC for my review. My opinions are my own.
Hands down a wonderful anthology! I enjoyed each one of these books. This is the first time I have read one of Josi S. Kilpack’s and she has now been added to my favorite authors list. I have read many books by Martha Keyes and Heather B. Moore and have loved them all. I guarantee you will enjoy this anthology if you are familiar with any of these authors.
The New Countess by Josi S. Kilpack It can be difficult to write about the intimacies of marriage without getting too graphic but Ms Kilpack has pulled it off well keeping it clean and romantic. I appreciated the ability of this couple to communicate honestly with one another once they were able to put aside the formalities of the ton.
Mishaps and Memories by Martha Keyes Judith Jardine discovered James unconscious with a bleeding head wound and other scrapes in a boat that had washed up on the beech. She recognized him as the very rude man who dubbed her as Miss ‘Sardine’. When he had no memory of who he was she couldn’t resist playing a trick on him. Until she felt guilty about her trickery. When James recovered his memory he felt guilty about the way he had treated her.
Moonlight Summer by Heather B. Moore This couple met at the beach over a young child’s hat that decided to take a swim out to sea. Being the gentleman that he was, Oscar Rosewell went for a swim after it. The child’s older sister, Dorothea, was very impressed with Oscar but this couple had a struggle with connecting since Dorothea was to be betrothed to another. I loved the sincerity with which they each treated one another while upholding their personal integrity.
