I thought this was the beginning of a life of luxury, now I’m just wondering how I will survive the night.
My whole life I have been training to be a princess. Now the day of my ascension is finally here, and I am about to meet my prince for the first time. All I know is that Azriel Vastarien is one of the fiercest warriors in all of Vaterra. I expected him to greet me with open arms, as excited to meet me as I am him. Instead, I am met with contempt and aggression.
None of this is what I expected. I feel like a lamb surrounded by a wolf pack. There is something wrong with these people, with this castle. The pale, gaunt faces of the royals haunt my dreams; the way they leer at me and lick their lips disquiets me further. I have no one to turn to other than my brooding warrior prince.
He doesn't say it, but I know that underneath his smoldering red gaze, he must feel something for me. Every time we touch, it’s electricity, but I can sense something dark inside him, a secret that is burning a hole in his soul. Could his distance be a way of protecting me? But if so, from what?
I'm terrified of what he might do if I give myself to him, but I'm more terrified of what will happen if I don't.
The Vampire is the third installment of the Fated Mates of the old world series and takes place 100 years after The Minotaur. Find out the fate of the world in this new thrilling and steamy sci-fi romance from Veronica Dean.
Each installment in the Fated Mates of the Old World series contains brave, strong-willed heroines and brooding, possessive alien warriors bound together by exhilarating action and steamy romance. The series is set in a universe where mythological creatures are not only real, they are our overlords. Follow each couple as they navigate this treacherous, often terrifying, world with only each other standing in the way of certain death, or worse.
Each book is full-length and standalone, however, they are best enjoyed when read in order.
No cliffhangers. No cheating. Happy ending guaranteed.
Azriel always found his feet in the middle of battle but things these days are not the same. The choices made by his father and others with regards to extending their lives had rather starker effects than they at first thought. He is finding that he disagrees more and more with how things are being done but somehow just doesn't have the impetus to oppose him. That is until he is tricked into accepting his father's experiment as his bride! Gaia is a human but she has been artificially created, a test tube human so to speak. She has no idea how the world works outside of her sheltered upbrining in the academy. There is something odd about the people she is now living amongst. They are just not quite right somehow but she cannot quite put her finger on what it might be. While she knew that she was expected to produce an heir she did not expect her bridegroom to appear to be blindsided by the annoucement, like he had no idea it was about to happen. That said there is something about Azriel that appeals to her. He is not afraid to apologise when he thinks he was in the wrong and he does make her feel safe although he also makes her head spin at the same time. Will they find a happy medium or will the real world come crashing into the middle before that can happen?
Azriel (H), a vampire prince, is shocked when his father presents him with Gaia (H), a young human woman, as his bride. Gaia has been brough up knowing that one day she will ascend and be a bride, but there's a dark secret that she doesn't know about the vampire king's plans for her future. Azriel wants to resist Gaia but finds himself drawn to her - he knows that if he gives in, then he'll bring his father's heinous plans to fruition. This was so dark and so freaking amazing! Typically, vampire stories are at the bottom of my TBR list, though alien vampires get moved higher up the list. I was so glad I read this one! The storyline and characters were just wow! And plenty of hot, sexy intense action too.
Azriel Vastarien is a vampire prince and fierce warrior whose father is evil. Azriel is blindsided when his father announces that he wants Azriel to marry Gaia, a young naïve human woman and produce many children to fit into his plans. Gaia knew that marriage to the prince would some day be her destiny. But why doesn’t her groom seem to have known this was happening? Why is he so cold to her and almost trying to avoid her? What is the deadly secret that no one seems aware of or willing to talk about concerning the vampire king's intention for her future? And how will she escape those dark plans?

I really enjoyed this story. It was interesting and I couldn't put it down. Great world building. Going into it based on the book summary, this was a bit of a different story than I expected- and better for it. Interesting characters and dynamic. And how could I not enjoy a story with alien vampires? 5 stars.
Fantastic vampire alien sci-fi romance with Azriel and Gaia. Vampires have taken over earth and humans haven’t been seen in decades until Azriel’s father the king brings a woman inside and he expects Azriel to breed with her for a new generation of humans because the vampires are starving and Azriel isn’t happy at all. Fantastic story I loved it and I highly recommend this book.
