This was a super cute, easy read - and damn do I love boy obsessed trope.
This man was down bad for Naomi, and we love to see it. I adore adore adooooored when he said 'You can be sad if that's what you need' - given the fact he was keeping a secret for more than half the book, he was actually surprisingly good at communicating and just so sweet with her. I'm not entirely sure how accurate any of the amnesia/brain injury plot is (can't say I have any knowledge of that), but I found the way he found it difficult to speak to people and be likeable and not be seen as grumpy or rude very much relatable to the autistic experience! (to be clear, the character isn't autistic, I just found certain things he struggled with to be relatable)
Naomi was a fun main character, but I wish we'd seen a bit more of her personality and the things that were mentioned. We never really saw much of her gaming/streaming, and her past or her current situation with finances and things (particularly her essentially being their live in maid and the dynamic that creates?) didn't really feel like it was delved into enough for me - in some ways it felt a little surface level? I think we also could've seen more of Finn's hockey and relationship with his teammates, particularly the ones that he lived with. I loved what we saw of them, but still felt quite disconnected from them - especially Sam, which is funny because his is the next book in the series.
And why was the ending so abrupt?? It really just ended in the middle of nowhere without wrapping up any of the external conflict. I'm assuming that's going to come into play in the next book, but it was mentioned as if it was going to be this huge thing and then kind of only touched on a few times, we had a massive breakthrough right at the end, and then it just...stopped? It was super jarring as a reader.
I did find that the writing style was a little basic and a bit 'I did this and then I did that', and it seemed like there was a week's time jump after every time they interacted, which had me sitting here like wait what how did you deal with or talk to each other after that (if I'm honest it took a little while for me to get into, but once I got over the writing style and into the plot I really enjoyed it!). But I thought the way the relationships were written was done well and I was invested in the story, so I see a lot of potential and am really excited for the author's future work!
