Carl Brown loses his dignity and lover after being defeated by Harry Carter in a fight. Although the loss has a good outcome for the werewolves, it weighs heavily on Carl who is a good fighter. He leaves the Lyca District and everything behind hoping to begin a new life in Alaska.
While honing his skills to become an even better fighter, Carl discovers something mysterious and sinister in the fighting tournament that he has joined. He does not believe that he could lose to a regular human. When a talent scout makes him an offer that is too good to resist, he has to decide wisely.
Book 2 - A Fresh Start
Carl stops searching for his brother Joel after discovering that he is dead. He gets a temporary job at the pet shop while training hard to become a professional fighter. Dan, a volunteer at the pet shop, takes an interest in him.
Carl’s dream of becoming a professional fighter is finally coming true but it comes at a great cost. He has played right into Neville's hands. The manager sets up events that have led Carl to do things that he will not have dreamed of. He gets his chance at becoming a professional fighter, but until he can stand on his own two feet, he would forever be under the control of Neville Jackson.
Book 3 - Ghost from the Past
Carl is shocked when Neville gets him to fight to death a man who looks like his dead brother Joel. Who exactly is this man? After the fight, Carl receives the news that he has been booked for his very first professional fight with Eddie, an old friend he has recently connected with. The two have doubts about the coincidence but look forward to battling each other professionally. On fight night, Carl is in for a very rude shock.
During the next full moon, Carl goes to his usual place to transform. He smells a familiar scent and realizes that he is being watched.
Book 4 - Betrayal and Breakup
With Eddie being badly incapacitated and unable to appear for the match, Carl is declared the winner. Angry at not having his first real fight and at the condition of his friend, Carl is determined to get his fight back. He seeks to find out what has happened to Eddie and who it is that looks like his dead brother. More pressingly though, he seeks to find out who has followed him and seen him transform.
Carl accepts Dan’s advances and starts a relationship with him. Dan proves to be a great and understanding boyfriend. He eagerly helps with shopping and styling Carl’s wardrobe for his new status. Carl receives a call from Eddie who tells him to go to the hospital right then without telling anyone.
Book 5 - Family Ties
Carl is livid when he finds out that his life has basically been planned out for him. Even his relationship has been artfully arranged without his knowledge. The person Carl has finally decided to let himself feel something for only turns out to be put in place by Neville, his manager. Why did Neville have such an interest in his life? It seems as if Neville is a whole lot more interested in the fighter's personal life than he is interested in his career.
Carl is unsure if anything in his life has even been real and if he can still trust the people around him. Eddie is someone from before his new life in New York. Can Carl trust Eddie to work together with him to get to the bottom of this all?
Great five book collection of stories with Carl and his opponents. The author brings a cast of strong characters and weaves an interesting storyline filled with action and danger. It's well written with descriptive scenes, moves fluidly and is a great read. I loved being able to read all of the books at once!

*** Reviewing “BETRAYAL AND BREAKUP (#4)” *** Carl, Dan, and Eddie . . .
Carl Brown stood in wolf form in the abandoned gym. But he heard someone trying to sneak in, and he knew the scent was human. It wasn’t very close yet, but he would need to do something as it was getting stronger. He saw a boarded up door and crashed through it, kept running to lose the human. This person had to have followed him. He howled at the moon in frustration. He would find out what happened to Eddie, and he was going to find out who he saw who looked like his dead brother. More important, however, he was going to find out who had followed him – and seen him transform to a wolf.
Carl was technically now a professional fighter because he won his fight. But he won by default when Eddie didn’t show up to fight – because someone attacked him and beat him up. Carl had gotten to him in time to save him. He took him to the hospital, but Eddie was in a coma. And Carl had some suspicions about who was responsible.
Dan had come to the fight and was worried when Carl just disappeared after he “won”. Now Carl accepts Dan’s advances but when he hugged Carl, he recognized the cologne from the person who followed him to the gym the night before! Carl didn’t say anything. He needed more information before he confronted Dan.
While Carl and Dan were shopping, Eddie called to say he was out of the coma and asked Carl to stop by the hospital. Carl just dropped everything to go to him. He sent a text to Dan that he would not be able to meet him. Dan texted back a nude picture of himself! And Eddie, who had borrowed the phone to call his manager, had a look of horror on his face. Carl laughed at the reaction, until Eddie said, “That’s him! That's the guy that attacked me!” Could Carl find out the truth of what was going on? Is Dan a danger to Eddie? Will he turn on Carl if he thinks he has something going on with Eddie?
I really enjoyed this set of a New Moon spin-off story. The books tell the story of Carl Brown after he leaves the Lyca District as he pursues his goal of becoming a renowned fighter. The story started a little slow for me, but quickly picked up the pace. It was full of tension and suspense, love and loss, friends, betrayal, intrigue, secrets and surprises. It's a complex story with well-developed characters, and it was great to get all of the books in a single combined set.

This box set follows the MC, Carl, as fights his way through through these tournaments while trying to remain safe from the dirty dealings that are going on in secret. Each book brings a good storyline all the way to the end.
After reading the first three books as separate installments, it was nice to have a boxed set to re-read engage in for the first time. From start to finish, each of the characters were captivating, thrilling and at times, uneventful.
I enjoyed Carl's overall story line immensely.
