I never imagined being an outlaw in another world would be so lucrative.
My monster girls and I are quickly raking in the riches, and everything I’ve ever wanted is up for grabs. Including penthouses, ritzy cars, and any weapon I might need for our next Hollowfell heist.
Things are definitely looking up, but now I’ve got my sights set on our biggest job yet.
And pulling off this massive robbery means seeing a whole new side of the magical world on the 13th floor.
The main character, Liam, spends the 10+ million, on "nouveau riche/ easy money" things that they have not earned or deserve. But where is the "going to the next level" and saving all of those enslaved people from the other world? Main character is not that smart, not that capable, has no ethics or sense of justice, and acts like a total hoodlum. It would have been so much better, to have a main character with vision, ambition and capacity for "true heroism". The two beast-spirit-girls have replaced their "slave-master" to a hoodlum/criminal from another world. There is no difference at all. Of course this is due to the author's bad vision and lack of ethical values. Again the sex scenes could be completely omitted from this series. Without and charm, without any persuasion, seduction abilities, the attractiveness factor of Liam (is his stolen money/loot), that most of the pirates and corrupt/depraved nobles from the other world had. Liam has no abilities to have his own personal harem. He is not even strong or good looking (of course all thanks to the lack of vision and average writing of the author). Author like this one, believe that covering it up with sex scenes and depravity, they are giving their readers (their money's worth), but this book and series are missing a better story. Where's the better writing, better organization, better ideas, and better story at? Liam is supposed to be proficient in armed weapons (guns and rifles) but has not even imagined of taking suppressors (gun silencers) with the weapons he takes to the other world. No maps, or interior illustrations for this fantasy novel series about criminal main characters...
Early into book one I was frustrated that MC wasn't thinking about the legal or tax repercussions of finding and selling millions in secret loot. It's now the end of the second book and we just have a vague notion that he's got a meeting with a guy who's going to somehow help with that. An intelligent IT guy working at an accounting firm would probably think about that _before_ getting huge sums deposited in his bank account.
Next, why has he still not even asked or considered how he plans to get exclusive access to the 12th floor? I assume he'll end up buying the building at this point, but it seems like that would've been further up his research list than luxury cruises.
Finally, these women mean the world to him, but he's done nothing to actually protect them. His uncle mentioned help with documents, but they have no identification of any kind. They don't even have cell phones. He blithely lets the clueless girls wander around on their first couple days on earth, without considering they could just disappear without a trace.
It's nerve-wracking the things that could go wrong while MC just daydreams about spending all his money on frivolous shit.
Also, speaking of cell phones. They should have two-way radios and other tactical goodies on Hollowfell.
Anyway, this series has a lot going for it but clueless MC is seriously clueless.
Eric Vail has given us a great example of the Reverse Portal fantasy nivel. It hits most of the clichés, but does them with such fun and energy that it feels like a fan of Westerns has stepped into Dodge City at the time of Wyatt Earp. Except on a world of monsters and magic.
Liam, the narrator and main character, continues amassing wealth by robbing the oppressive High Society of their gold, jewels and other precious items. He rescues two beautiful "monster girls" and the threesome becomes a formidable outlaw gang. Lots of great escapes, fun on both sides of the pritak as Liam cashes in and moves up to a fancy penthouse.
But he still needs to keep his demeaning job and figure out how he can access the mysterious 13th floir where the secret portal exists.
Tons of fun. Light sex, profanity--all the naughty stuff we love. Looking fwd to reading book 2, right now.
Smooth Sailing Continues Liam, Kali, and Cleo spend their time planning additional heists beyond the door, executing heists, and planning how to spend all the new-found wealth.
Better clothes, apartment, and eating out.
One mention of actually working to free more of the "trophy" people enslaved for the amusement of the overlords that isn't followed through on what-so-ever.
A lot of killing of sentient species with no remorse and not a whit of moral consideration.
Adult scenes are well executed. Cleo joins in towards the end of the story. Of course there isn't any concern from Kali or Liam about a non-monogamous relationship situation.
Its just too consistently easy, leaving the read left to constantly wonder when a shoe is going to drop and things will go horribly off the rails, but it never happens.
I really wanted to like this book, the first book was good but this one was not. I couldn't get past how dumb the characters were. The naivety of Kali and Cleo was infuriating, along with how stupid they talked. Cleo talks like a caveman and Kali was suffocatingly bashful and ignorant. It would've been nice for them to show some competence in how the acted. This book could've been really good if you tempered character's emotions and actions better. I really liked Backyard Dungeon and was hoping this would be similar, the concept of the story was close but the follow through ended up being a pile dog poo.
Portal to another world... Check Evil monsters in need of slaying... Check Lots of gold and loot to bring back home and become rich? Check and check
Let's not forgot the gorgeous girls on the run and needing a helping hand.
Looting the 13th floor is an awesome and thrilling book to read with tonnes of fun, adventure and excitement to keep me turning the pages to the early hours of the morning.
Liam getting the life he always wanted wealth an love he only read about .
Liam an his two monster girls Cleo, an Hali he rescued from being trophies heads mounted on walls literally . High Society organization collected trophies as means of wealth an status an well as jewels, gold an other wealth. Liam an his monster girls attack back for their evil an stealing their wealth to make a better life for themselves .recommend reading excellent series .
There is nothing like working for an a-hole boss in a dead end job, but getting to go on crazy adventures within the building with the crappy boss. The unknown 13th floor is a portal to another world with gorgeous monster women and battles for amazing loot. Ok the MC gets to have sex with his 2 monster girls, but there is some story...
Ok story and ok adventure, but not as fun as the 1st book.
I highly enjoyed this book. If you enjoy stories of portals, monster girls and harems then you probably will enjoy this. I personally look past the harem part and enjoy the story for what it is. Also it's got a fair amount of stealing in it so if you have a problem with that don't read it. It's also got a good amount of killing in it still clear if you don't like it.
Alright! Our MC continually proves he a bad ass and his women continue to show their strength. I would like for the to learn better modes of speaking but that's just me
Loving this series so far. The main protagonist is easy to identify with. The women contribute in a badass way directly to the story and everyone can identify with a trash boss. Excited for the next one for sure.
The greatness keeps coming..cumming? Love how the romance and sex and adventure stays intertwined. Strong female characters and a great hero. Can't wait for #3
The exploits of these awesome characters is literally mind blowing. The various characters and their raids are almost as exciting as their escapes. Mr. Vall has written an exceptional fiction.
Good to know that it's going to be continued. This guy has to be able to get as much as he can before his boss gets close to messing with his. I also think that Stan knows what is going on, on13. He has been around too long. But I think the trips should be taken more seriously and a lot more planning as the danger is only going to get worse. Take some time off and see if the danger will get a little less.
