Welcome to Starry Hollow where spells were made to be broken.
All spell breaks loose when the residents of Starry Hollow start appearing to others the way they see themselves. When a dead body is discovered amidst the chaos, supernatural sleuth Ember Rose takes charge of the investigation, alongside a very tall and not-remotely-green Deputy Bolan. Thanks to the spell Sheriff Nash finds himself all wolf, which also impacts his attempt at a marriage proposal.
Can Ember find the killer who’s hidden in plain sight or is she doomed to get lost in the smoke and mirrors?
Magic & Mirrors is the 17th book in the Starry Hollow Witches series.

A few questions I kept thinking while reading this book. Ember spends hours consulting for the Sheriff's office and helping with cases but doesn't get paid anything. At that point, they should just hire her or pay her a fee for every case she helps with. Time is money and she keeps wasting hers on things that is not giving her anything. The coven can even hire her as the liaison with the Sheriff office, help them ensure witches agenda is being looked after. There are two werewolves and a leprechaun on the force, where is the witch representative. Either way she need to make money for what she does, she does it to help the community and because she cares but you cant pay the bills with that.
Also, why didn't she just make a potion or charm to be able to communicate with Nash. Didn't she do that a few books ago with the flying squirrel. She can even do it with PP3, we should get to know what he is thinking.
Finally some progress in the relationship with the Sheriff, really hoping we get a wedding and a pregnancy soon. I want to see Marley as a big sister, specially before she gets too much older and enters her teen phase.
Ember is an idiot!!!!!!! How many times has she seen how magic can go off the rails and not do what was intended. How many times has she been the one to discover as a with/wizard was doing a spell with good intentions and the outcomes turns bad. How many times have people said necromancy is bad and just in this book Cala said you cant revive something bigger than a plant. She keeps thinking those rules don't apply to her because she's above them or even worse because she too stupid realized she is being dupped. At this point I'm starting not to like Ember as a character, she's too stupid for her own good.
Ivy!!! finally something interesting is happening in the series. Can't wait to see what happens. I hope they don't send her back.
Annabel Chase certainly knows how to weave a story and she is a master at leaving her readers wanting more. I loved this story in the continuing saga of Ember, Marley, PP3, Raoul, Granger, and all the Starry Hollow witches.
When a mirror spell is cast that affects the entire town, everyone is transformed into the image they have of themselves. For some, it's a blessing and for others, it isn't. I loved the changes this caused and the reactions to it. I especially loved the ending. What a surprise!
While having dinner at Thornhold with the others suddenly people start changing physically. What they change into is how they see themselves.
The sheriff can't get on the case as he is now a wolf.
Complicating that is a murder at a restaurant. With Granger out of action Ember is going to have to work with Deputy Bolan, not her favorite person in the world.
If that wasn't enough for Ember to have to deal with there's a problem with Ivy's magic and a major warning to Ember from a seer.
A terrific addition to the Starry Hollow Witches series - in addition to a murder mystery, the entire town is affected by a spell that affected them all at the same time as the crime. The spell really adds an intriguing element, which is a fun way to get to know each of the characters a little better. It's curious to see how each person fares from it. And what the heck is up with that ending?!! What is about to go down in the next book?!
Since I don't do spoilers, you'll just have to read it for yourself, but holy cow, I'm gobsmacked. This is one of my favorite series of all time. I just adore Ember and her a tics and the really crazy situations she gets herself into. The ending of this one really caught me off guard. I really can't wait to see where this is all going. So looking forward to the next in series!
A spell has affected most of Starry Hollow... paranormals morphing into their mirror version of themselves and 1 dead body... for many, it's not a good experience, but a there's a few surprises like the over 6 foot bronzed and muscular Deputy Bolan... if it's not turned back in time, there's a risk the spell will be permanent.. and of course there's a murderer in the midst of it all...
But it's the shocking surprise in Embers mirror that takes the prize..
A spell has been cast on all of Starry Hollow, causing the residents to appear as they see themselves. Will Ember be able to find the culprit before it’s too late, and will she heed the psychic’s warning about using her powers will result in disaster? Another must read from the incredibly talented, but not so great Pokémon player, Annabel Chase!
This is a really good series of books to read. I love reading books by Ms. Chase. Her stories flow easily and keep you entertained. I never felt like there was a lull in the story or a lot of unnecessary filler. She is a very gifted and creative author. You won't be sorry to buy this book.
This story is lively and keeps you pulled in, it's a lot of fun! As always there is a mystery to unravel while seeing a glimpse into Embers life. The story is still interesting and keeps you wanting more. I can't wait for the next installment!
These are always cute and quick reads. This books was all about the perception of ourselves. Some people should really be kinder to themselves. Some should be kinder to others. Some just need entirely new perspectives on everything. Also, the dead should stay dead, don’t you agree? Ember may learn this lesson too late.
The much awaited time, finally comes to pass, you just need to decide which one is it. Holy smokes this one is filled with a lot, intrigue and come agains? Just read it and be ready for it. This baby ends in a cliffhanger, so have book 18 cued to jump right into it.
Good addition to the Starry Hollow Witches series. The characters are continuing to grow and develop. The plot and subplots move quickly, making it hard to put the book down. I can't wait for the next book!
A murder. A spell gone wrong making everyone reveal how they think people perceive them, an engagement and a surprise ending. Never a dull moment in Annabel's books!
Many well loved characters, no longer as they might normally be. I found this narative difficult to accept. I still want to read the next episode but I don't know what to expect!
Absolutely adored this book. Seeing how people view themselves and then appreciate what they actually look like. I can't say I'm shocked about the twist but I am excited to see what comes next.
Every book I read in this series is wonderful!! I am attached to and invested in these characters. The setting is wonderful and each murder mystery is intriguing 😀
A good story in the series. I was quite surprised at the ending in this story. Though it will make an interesting point in any future story. Great characters.
This was a great book until the cliffhanger! I really dislike them. It could have all been wrapped up nicely, as it should be, but then a cliffhanger. What a shame.
Each book in the series is as good as the last book. A magic spell goes wrong, as it effects members of Starry Hollow. Ember has to solve the case before the effects become permanent. But that's not the only problem. Ivy!!
There is lots of that afoot in Starry Hollow. This was a fun story with a lot of interesting things happening to lots of people. Full of fun and things that go bump in the night.
The towns in disarray, people have changed, not in a good way. Ember is helping in another murder Case. Did someone try a spell that went awry? An interesting story.
Another wonderful book in this awesome series by author Annabel Chase. I love characters in these books. They are so good. Each book keeps getting better and better. And this one is so good. I highly recommend reading it...
Once again Ms Chase delivers another intriguing and compelling story in this great series. Each book is unique and the storylines are different and keep me hooked from the first page to the last. Can’t wait for the last book now.
It took me awhile to get into this book. It's different from the previous books. I'm glad I stuck with it. And oh my gosh that ending! I can't wait for the next book to be released!
