It started out innocently enough . . .

Hailey Thomas is perfectly content living a quiet life as a second-grade teacher. She’s definitely not looking for a husband. But when one of her students can’t stop bragging about her single dad, she decides to do some sleuthing and what she finds turns her into a part-time internet stalker, complete with daydreams she can never admit to.

When the object of her research shows up at her school and accuses her of scheming with his eight year-old daughter, she vows to put an end to all of it and avoid him at all costs. Ford Whittaker may be a wealthy businessman and ridiculously handsome single dad, but he’s definitely not the man she’d imaged he was.

Only, avoiding Ford is becoming impossible thanks to her honorary uncle, her four best friends, and the daughter that actually is a schemer. Every week it’s something new, and the more they get thrown together, the more Hailey wonders if maybe she’d been a little bit lonelier than she realized.

And maybe Ford was too.

Class Act is a closed-door, sweet and swoony romance, with all the sizzle and no explicit content.

Aspen Hadley loves nothing more than a great story. She has devoted herself to story-telling for the majority of her life, writing her first novel at her kitchen table in the 8th grade. Aspen writes what she wants to read: clean, sassy, romantic comedy novels that give you a break from real life and leave you feeling happy.

Outside of writing, Aspen's number one hobby is reading. Number two is sneaking chocolate into and out of her private stash without being caught. Other favorite things include: playing the piano, listening to classic rock, telling jokes around the dinner table, eating ice cream, traveling, a good case of the giggles, and riding on ATVs over the trails around her home in Utah.

Aspen shares her life with a patient husband, 4 hilarious children, and 1 grumpy dog in a quiet suburb next to her beloved mountains.

Given the choice she would road trip her life away, singing along to the radio and sleeping in every morning.

What a breath of fresh air! This romance had a very mature, genuine progression that made me swoon with delight.

Introverted schoolteacher Hailey Thomas has been secretly fantasizing about the handsome single dad of a former student. And you cannot blame her! Ford Whittaker was dreamy. Seemingly arrogant initially, this successful businessman has zero intentions to date or marry again. But of course underneath is the most gentle heart.

As the two continue to coincidentally cross paths, I loved the delicate slow burn of their relationship. Filled with sarcastic humour and adorable kisses, I appreciate how well these two communicated. And that pool scene, let me tell you!

This features the most wonderful group of friends, too! I love the Thornback women and their hilarious, supportive pep talks. I can't wait for each of their stories!

Oh, mylanta, this book is FREAKING ADORABLE!! Aspen Hadley has outdone herself and I am here for every.single.thing she writes!

Elementary school teacher Hailey has had a long-distance crush on her student's father for long enough that when she finally meets Ford, fantasy and reality crash in a big way. As they get to know each other though, she discovers that real Ford is even better than she imagined but being vulnerable when your heart is on the line is never easy.

i cannot even tell you how much I loved this book! It is a teacher/student's parent romance with a bit of an age gap (he is 10 years older - did not bother me at all!) and a little enemies to lovers vibe after the disastrous meet cute! But oh, my, I loved so many parts about this romance!

The pumpkin fair
Ice skating date
the opera
the birthday party cake snatching!
swimming
"When is the last time someone kissed you?"
the entire last chapter and epilogue

Okay, I pretty much loved the whole thing! Aspen is without a doubt one of my all-time favorite rom-com authors and my friends, if you have not picked up one of her books yet, I don't even know what to say except you need to do it! Like now! This is a 5+ star book!

I am loving this group of friends that call themselves the "Thornback society" and I am so here for Meredith's story next!

I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.

Hailey is a second-grade teacher, an introvert who loves her job, loved her overanalyzing moments Ford is a single dad raising two kids having lost his wife a few years prior. He’s a successful businessman and doesn’t have time to waste on dating. The story takes a little time to get going, as we get to know more about her, her teacher's friends, and build a relationship with Ford.

The teacher/single dad/age-gap trope was told from Hailey’s point of view. She was so sweet and I loved her relationship with the kids and with her friend group. Her friends were hilarious. A romcom that's light-hearted, with depth and funny moments. Sweet/closed door, spicy kisses, cute romance.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐💫 (3.5)
Steam Level: 🔥 (kissing only)
Trigger Warning: brief mentions of death of a loved one and depression

Hailey Thomas has fantasized about Ford Whittaker ever since having his daughter as one of her students. The thing is, she never actually met him in person until now. When Ford's daughter Hillary invites Hailey to his birthday party, he makes it clear that he has no intentions of dating someone just because of his daughter. Hailey is shocked that real-life Ford could actually be so rude, and as they start to run into each other again and again, she has a hard time reconciling the man she dreamed up with reality. But slowly Ford seems to warm up to Hailey's increasing presence in his life, and Hailey must decide if she's willing to open up and let him in. Could the man she dreamed of for months end up being the one she's been waiting for her entire life?

This was a cute book to read at the start of the school year. I liked seeing the friendships Hailey had with her co-workers and how they were there for her as she tried to figure out her feelings for Ford. The first half of the book was very repetitive as every chapter alternated between awkward encounters between Ford and Hailey and her recounting the events with her friends. I also had a hard time feeling much chemistry until later in the book since Ford barely said or did much during his initial run-ins with Hailey. Once they started to intentionally spend time together it was really sweet. I liked how Ford took care of Hailey when she got hurt, and I appreciated that they took time to get to know each other better before officially declaring their feelings in the end. I also liked seeing Ford's children wanting to spend time with Hailey and being affectionate towards her. That was really special. There were a lot of seeds planted for future romances in this series, so I'm eager to see what comes next for Hailey and her friends.

Aspen Hadley is one of my very favorite romantic comedy authors. I love her characters and settings. Her books seem like they could be real.

Hailey is such a great character! I loved how she was with the kids she taught. Especially Hillary. She just seemed to know what the kids needed instinctively. The first run in with Hillary’s dad, Ford, made me laugh. Hailey was just really awkward. And the whole situation was hilarious! And then they just keep getting thrown together!

I loved reading Hailey’s thoughts. She’s just a little bit snarky. I loved that she seemed real.

The love story in this one was so great! I loved every bit of it.

Hailey’s got great friends too. I can’t wait to read each of their stories! If you haven’t read anything by this author yet, you need to. This is one book I really want to read more than one time.

I was sent an e-copy of Class Act as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.

SWOONY.

BLOG || INSTAGRAM

I looooove a good swoony love interest and Ford hit all of those marks for me. I could not get enough of every single time he and Hailey were forced together (because forced proximity is one of the best tropes out there). There was fantastic relationship development. And the best part? NO THIRD ACT BREAK-UP. We’re all adult here folks.

My one eh thing is that I basically skipped over any of the (too long) scenes of Hailey talking to her friends. It was setting up for the future books and I think when that is written more subtly it comes across better. This was a bit much and made things drag out too long.

I adored Ford’s kids too. They were a nice charming touch. This book had me smiling and chuckling at some of the scenes and I always adore a book that can bring out those kind of feel good emotions. I look forward to more stories!

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: none
- Romance: make-outs
- Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of a spouse (off page, but recounted)

honestly you could not tell that girlie was a teacher like...we never actually see her teach in class or talk to other students and whenever there were scenes at the school its just her and like three other teachers talking about their dating life? idk maybe its just me because i expected it to be abbott elementary but the romcom version. the romance was okay ig but they didnt have much chemistry. overall the concept was good but it was lacking in execution

Romance level: kissing 🔥.

This is my first book from Aspen & it won't be my last. I loved this story!

I loved Hailey from the start. The taco meet cute was amazing😂. She's so smart, sweet, introvert, kind & a good person. I loved how she asked for help to clear her mind and open to talk about her feelings and emotions.

Ford. What a man. His communication skills were on point🏅! Straightforward, honest, his children were his priority and his actions always spoke louder. I was happy he was so openly expressing his feelings, even if he was somehow off at the beginning. It was hilarious how Ford joked with Hailey, messing with her head. The slow burn of their relationship was 🔥.

And he only got better from there. He was supportive, a great listener, all in with making Hailey happy through small gestures. Their first kiss was so sweet! I loved the meeting and all the activities involving them and the kids. And that epilogue? The cherry on top! That man is the sweetest ever.

My favorite scenes had:
🎭opera
⛸️ ice skating
🏊🏻‍♂️pool

Hailey's parents, Leonard and Connie are so funny. Her relationship with her parents was everything. Henry and Hillary were so cute!
I love the friendship with Ruby, Lizzie, Aryen and Meredith. I can't wait for the next books in the series.

(4.5 stars) - The latest - and last - shiny object

Hailey was the everything-just-as-it-should-be gal in her friend Lizzie's story, Sun Sand & Second Chances, and here we get to know her better.

The seemingly demure, quiet teacher has a fun, snarky sense of humor & has recently been dreaming about the swoony dad of one of her students. Who turns out to be kind of an arrogant jerk & nothing like the dreamy version in her imagination.

So she resolves to put him out of her mind, but then he just keeps popping up in real life.

The story takes a little time to get going, but in this case, it's necessary for the plot as it's a building spiral of events, & we get to know more about her as well as her teacher friends. It keeps the story both real and entertaining.

It has a believable fairytale feel to it that just makes it oh so satisfying! Looking forward to Meredith's story now - clearly going to be enemies-to-lovers, lol...

Hey, hey, hey it's the Class Act by @aspenhadley_author

Think you can handle this new, fun release?? You better because it's a great one.

So I didn't think I had a thing for the single dad trope but I definitely have a new appreciation. I mean it warms my heart when a grown man melts like a puddle for his children l. (Currently living with that example*cough cough* and it's freaking amazing!)

Umm also I need to incorporate stealing extra cake. Like what is that genius Aspen Hadley? I have been missing this piece of cake for most of my life! *Insert mind blown*

Let it be know that the leads of this story are *kisses in the air* delightful! Sweet and salty and ugh so wonderful. Hailey and Ford should consider getting a medal for their doorway kiss. Even a clean romance can have a hot moment you need a fan for and I am here for it!

Shout out to Aspen Hadley for her first indie release. I am excited for this journey!

Love the chemistry between Ford and Hailey. They are a very sweet couple. She’s a little awkward but it feels natural. I really enjoyed Henry and Hillary.
The 1st half of this book took me a long time to get into I’m also not a fan of romcoms that the friend group is so much a part of the story line that every interaction between the main characters has to be talked about afterwards with said friend group. For one, it’s a double standard. If men talked about women this way most women would not appreciate it. Two, it’s like repeating all the scenes when it’s discussed to the friend group. Overall cute story and I plan to check out the rest of the series. 3 1/2 stars

I liked it!

This was a cute, entertaining story. Hailey is a second-grade schoolteacher and has been crushing on one of her student's dads for quite a while. He doesn't quite live up to her imagination when they meet for the first time though. Ford isn't interested in dating, after losing his wife a few years ago he is focused on his two kids and his career. Hailey keeps getting thrown together though and as they come to know each other better they can't help falling for each other. I thought they had a nice sweet romance.

This was a fun, cute read. I really like Aspen Hadley’s books. I also love a teacher MC. The banter and relationship between Ford and Hailey were great. The whole dreaming about Ford before she knew him and “Fake Ford” thing was kind of weird for me. It made me feel too old or something. But I loved the way their relationship evolved and the way the characters grew. Definitely a lighthearted, clean romance for when you’re looking for one!

Thanks to Aspen for my gifted ecopy of the book.

ADORABLE. I absolutely loved this sweet romance between Hailey and Ford. I especially loved the second half when things turn ultra-swoony. Aspen sure knows how to write a great kissing scene!! I loved that I not only got to know Hailey and Ford and his kids, but also Hailey's best friends. It gives this book more depth and helps Hailey feel more well rounded. I am so excited for the next book in this series. If you're looking for a sweet, wonderful romance, pick this one!!

Lovely sweet romance!

Romance, sweet, contemporary; series, but stand alone read

Haley Thomas didn’t mean to fall in love with her new student’s dad when she looked up his profile. She thought she was safe after a summer free from school, but when Ford’s daughter starts playing matchmaker, it’s hard for Haley to resist falling in love with all of them.

This is an age gap romance is so well done. I loved the different moments between Haley and Ford (the forehead kiss, asking when she was last kissed, taking care of her…). I always enjoy when single dads are awesome fathers, and Ford is amazing. I also love Haley’s found family friend group.

I. Loved. This. So. Much.

Which is also a relief for me, because the reading slump I've been in has not been fun and I was growing tired of my every growing pile of DNFs. This was perfection. The first book I read from Hadley was Starstruck and I found that pretty underwhelming. I also read the prequel for this series and didn't overly care for it. I did however really enjoy Suits and Spark Plugs which I thoroughly enjoyed. All this to say is I think I thought Suits and Spark Plugs was a rarity, whereas I now realise that the books I didn't enjoy where the outliers, not the norm, because Hadley is definitely my kind of author.

Class Act is like a flower unfurling into full bloom. It doesn't rush to the end. It unfolds wonderfully and I didn't realise that's what I've been missing from romance novels lately. Hailey has been crushing on a guy she's never met and feels safe to do so because she never plans to act on it. Her fantasy world and reality start to collide when she starts interacting with said crush and has to work through how she's pictured him, who he really is, and the general discomfort of deciding if she's ready to pursue more in her life.

I love how Hadley's stories aren't pure romance story. Her characters are fully fleshed out and so is her world. We see Hailey at work. We see Hailey hanging out with her friends. Hailey with her parents. Hailer back at work. All of this without the love interest. This is not a story that's moving pieces simply to get to the HEA at the end. Instead it feels very organic. When Hailey keeps running into Ford, it makes sense and is explained within the context of the story (it's a small town and she's seen him around before they had started interacting). And she also doesn't run into Ford everywhere all of a sudden. It makes you desperately crave more of their interactions.

And boy did this ship sail. It was delightful. It had tension (but didn't cross over into enemies into lover, which I've grown tired off). It also had true companionship. The whole ship was excellent and wonderfully executed.

And I had the biggest biggest smile on my face the entire read. This is one of my favourite books and can't wait to read more in the series.

Edit: Coming back a year later to see this hold up on a re-read because I was losing sleep to finish a book I had already read and enjoyed.

I knew I liked Aspen Hadley as an author, but this book made her a must read for me. I loved this one! So much so that I read it again right after I finished it.

Hailey is calm, classy, and in control, except when she finally meets one of her previous student’s father. A man that was talked up so much by the student that she had looked him up online, and then thought a little too much about him. When Ford does not act how she expected it sends Hailey’s calm out the window.

Ford is a widow and father of two. He’s a successful businessman and has no interest in relationships. When he keeps running into Hailey, his opinion of her starts to change, but is she worth the vulnerability?

This is an age gap (10 years that did not feel that big), teacher/parent, enemies to lovers story. It was done so well! I loved it. I loved that there was so much time on the page of them together. Did I want to go back and analyze what just happened right after they interacted? Yes. Yes I did. Did I get to hash it out with Hailey’s best friends. Yes. It was so great.

Ice skating
Horrible blind date
Adorable kids
Pool games
Pumpkin fair
Opera (Carmen was my first opera!)
Intelligent conversations about why people react the way they do.

Loved this one! One of my favorites this year.

Author Aspen Hadley has written the sweetest and swoony romcom in her novel, Class Act.
A charming story with multiple tropes including: teacher/parent, single dad, and enemies to lovers relationships. Readers will quickly fall in love and come to adore the characters in this story. This book was absolutely adorable!!

I loved Hailey’s character. She was so sweet and I loved her relationship with this kids and with her friend group. Her friends were hilarious. I can’t wait to see more of them in the next book!
Ford 😍😍 Honestly I was hesitant at the beginning of this book because the MCs do not have the best first meeting. But after the first 15% of this book, I was hooked. Their relationship is kind of a slow burn but it’s more about the natural progression. We get to see them become friends as he lets her in.
The fair!! 😍😭
I really related to Hailey in being introverted but always surrounded by extroverts lol You don’t always feel like you fit in but they honestly did so good at balancing each other out.
The ending was so cute!!
NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP. I was so happy. That by itself makes me love this book.
All the teasers for book two!! I can’t wait to read about Meredith next!!

This is such a cute story! I love a good single dad whose kid tries to set him up. Well, kind of sets him up. It’s more like his daughter loves her former teacher wants to spend time with her. I really enjoyed this Thornback Society book, and I’m looking forward to reading the next one!

Hailey’s former student, Hillary, has her heart set on inviting Hailey to her dad’s birthday party. Hailey doesn’t want to go. For one thing, Ford is a well known businessman, and Hailey has been stalking him on social media and daydreaming about him, figuring that she’d never meet him. When she tells Hillary that she doesn’t know her father, she insists on introducing them. Ford rudely greets Hailey by informing her that he doesn’t want to date her. Offended, Hailey storms off, with the intention of never seeing him again. Too bad she suddenly starts running into him everywhere she goes.

I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before, but this is my new favorite book by Aspen Hadley! To be real though, I have a lot of favorites by her. 😂😍 I love Aspen’s humor and writing style, and I always relate so much to her characters!

I had met Hailey in the prequel novella to this series, and I was excited to get to know her better in this story! Hailey is an introvert who loves kids, and she loves her job as a schoolteacher. Her first meeting with Ford is hilarious, and I enjoyed seeing how their relationship developed. Ford’s children, Hillary and Henry, are adorable, and they were a lot of fun to read about!

Each book in this series is about a member of the Thornback Society, and I absolutely love this amazing friend group! They are hilarious, supportive, and awesome. They made me think about my own friends and how grateful I am for them!

This story is humorous and swoonworthy, and is such a fun book to read. I am eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series, especially after the hints in this book regarding the relationship for that book. Can’t wait for more books from Aspen Hadley!

5/5 stars!

I loved this! Since reading the prequel through prolific books, I've been looking forward to the start of this series. This book definitely has a slow burn, slow enough that I felt like the beginning was a little too slow. I like the strong friend group, the good familial relationships, and the cute, matchmaking kiddos. I also liked that there wasn't this major conflict at about 85% through. There's tension throughout the whole story, and that was good enough for me.

So darn adorable!

This story was just so adorable- I loved the characters, the way it flowed, and the slow buildup of such a sweet romance. Hailey is such a lovable protagonist, and I adored her shy personality. Ford was oh-so-swoony, and I liked seeing the way he and and Hailey grew more confident in their flirting and teasing with one another. My only complaint is how quickly it seemed to end- I just loved these two!!

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It isn't my typical genre and I did find the writing to be inconsistent at times, but overall I liked the story. Sometimes Hailey bugged me, but I liked her more toward the end. I really loved the friendship aspect of this book, and I also thought Hillary's admiration of Hailey, and their relationship, was really sweet. I'm not sure if I'll read the others in the series, but I liked this one!

If you are sleeping on Aspen Hadley’s books, let this be a friendly reminder that YOU NEED HER BOOKS IN YOUR LIFE!!

Class Act was one more PERFECT example of a book making me laugh out loud and also feeling beneath the surface! Her characters have depth and heart all while making you laugh out loud!

Hailey was super relatable, fun and her daydreaming habit and “make believe” Ford were hilarious. I loved watching her character arc develop throughout this story!

Ford. Oh, Ford😂 You never, ever say never to a woman😂 I loved seeing so many aspects of Ford’s character. Ford as a businessman, Ford as a widowed dad, and Ford trying to figure Hailey out😂

This book developed and progressed perfectly! PERFECTLY, I tell you!!

Grab it now!

This book is a slow burny good book ! Ford seriously is delicious and his kids are adorable. Hailey is such a sweet heroine. Their meet cute/meet jerk was memorable and set the pace for their forced proximity, enemies to lovers. Is his daughter scheming to get them together? Maybe but you try saying no.
👩🏼‍🏫
I appreciated that Hailey is a strong independent women with a level head. Even if she’s prone to daydream of a man. Ford - with his age gap - is perfect for Hailey and I loved seeing their friendship and love bloom.
👩🏼‍🏫
The group of friends, the Thornback Society, is a great group of women supporting other women. I can’t wait for the next book.
