They sent me into the blasted lands to die. I refused. I lived. And now...I return to the empire that discarded me. A god, rich with worship. I don't know what has become of Hasra, or the war with the Fomori. I don't know where Li is, or if her homeland is still dealing with the wyrm Khonsu.
My sister and mother were freed, the reward for my blood price, but I have no idea what has become of them. It is time to go home. Time to right old wrongs, and to find the legacy left behind by my former incarnation. Three tombs remain. Once I am certain my family is safe I will seek them.
The next lies in Olivantia, a land that has banned sorcery, and will kill me if they discover what I am.
If I survive, then I must return yet again to Hasra, this time to see the demonic kingdom that lies under the very city.
Prophecy says that I will survive, and find the last tomb in the Ashlands.
I tire of prophecy. I tire of what others require of me. It is time to make my own way, my own choices. They will find that I am neither boy, nor student any longer. I am the prince of demons, and I have returned.
By day I am an iPhone developer architecting the app used to scope Stephen Colbert’s ear. By night I am Batman. Ok maybe not. One can dream though, right?
I’ve been writing since I was six years old and started inflicting my work on others at age 18. By age 24 people stopped running away when I approached them with a new story and shortly thereafter I published my first one in the Rifter.
Wait you’re still reading?
Ok, the facts I’m supposed to list in a bio. As of this writing I’m 38 years old and live just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the beautiful town of Mill Valley. If you’re unsure how to find it just follow the smell of self-entitlement. Once you see the teens driving Teslas you’ll know you’re in the right place.
I live in a tiny studio that I can cross in (literally) five steps and don’t own an oven. But you know what? It’s worth it. I love developing iPhone apps and if you want to work in San Francisco you accept that rent for a tiny place costs more than most people’s mortgage.
If you and about 2 million other people start buying my books I promise to move out of Marin to a house in the redwoods up in Guerneville. No pressure. Wait that’s a lie. Pressure.
I consider myself practical, and a realist, so why do these books seem so real. Yes, it is the old story of good against evil, but what is good, and what is evil? The characters seem so natural, and yet, we have demons, and magic, and as many types of being as we have races, and animals in our world, not to mention the unliving and ghosts, and the good, and evil humans. Politics and battles in every form from our own centuries of wars, and yet it all makes sense. This is true science fiction, where friends have to fight each other, but remain friends, while employing magic and other wonders to fight with. Start from book. You won't regret it!
So I read the last 10 chapters or so of this book before getting on my plane to America.
It started out a little confused, a bit of a departure from the themes of the previous two books. But as I got through it I found myself wanting to read more and more.
An ability most writers would love to have, so well done Chris Fox!
However, it would be remiss if I didn't reference the obvious issue with power ceilings. But this is merely a tiny issue, as the characters kind of carry this on there own...
It has a very Buffy the Vampire Slayer quality in that, the world descending to madness around them is almost a side plot to the relationships and general sarcasm of the protagonist.
Great read. Truly an enjoyable book. I have enjoyed all of the magitech chronicles as well
Set in the same universe as the magitech chronicles. This has been a very fun addition to the series. I had read the first three books before this had come out and had been sad this wasn't out then. So glad to have gone through this. It was fun and I look forward to the next one
I’ve enjoyed all these books, the first were a little slow, but this one has really picked up the pace. Great to see Xal finally becoming the Demon Prince he is destined to be
It's not often I give a five. This series, each book, deserves the five. It's a series for all ages, too, there is no smuttiness to pad out and pander to "young adults". If your faith is strong, sit back and enjoy some really meaty books.
Creative stories and characters. However, it is reaching a point where there are almost too many story lines and characters to keep track of. I cannot stop reading this series.
