I spent my life searching for love, but Evan was right there all along.

As gorgeous on the inside as he was on the outside, I never had to wonder if he loved me. He showed me with every glance, every sweet touch, every scorching kiss.

I wanted nothing more than to give him my forever—until I found out I may not have one.

Paige was the girl of my dreams.

So beautiful in every way; no one would ever compare. I feared she would never be mine, and then she became my everything. I wanted to be with her for the rest of my life.

I wanted her to be my forever. But love may not be enough.

Why do I have to say good-bye to the love of my life? How can I let you go—when it’s always been only you?

Why on earth haven’t I read Only You sooner. One thing Stephanie Rose masters is writing swoon worthy heroes. OMG how I drooled and swooned over Evan. He had the whole package. Caring, loving, protective and alpha. I could go on. Paige was such a great heroine and her relationship with her cousin Jack was something special. They truly were brother and sister. Their scenes held so much emotion and made me tear up numerous times. Her friendship with Ellie and Natalie was one of kind too. Together they added some comic relief to the story since it centers around some heavy topics such as leukemia and lupus.
Paige and Evan were pretty darn amazing together. So much chemistry. They had so much fun together and when they get struck with tragedy and illness their love is what prevails.

I’ve read Stephanie Rose’s books out of order and it didn’t matter at all. I have a connection with these characters and just being with them, knowing who they are and when characters from other books make an appearance only made it that much more special. Another treasure from Stephanie Rose.

I love the way Stephanie Rose writes her males, hot, sweet, sensitive with a touch of possessive alphahole when needed. Unfortunately the heroine pulled a TSTL move that annoyed me

I love a smart author, and this author is absolutely that. Dialogue was snappy, real, moved the story along, and sounded authentic. Which is important for a story of such an intimate nature. No big drama or angst, but a very "small", powerful story of love amid the worst and most trying situations. And when I say "small" I don't mean that in a belittling way. I mean in a not grandiose or overblown way, which I appreciated.

It's hard to write about the actual plot without giving away any spoilers and I'm not one for recap reviews anyway. I just like to pick about how a writer does what she does and how effective it is to the overall story. Here, I thought the voice of the author lent itself to a very realistic relationship that deals with a very realistic hardship that actual humans in the world are dealing with. This is, however, a "she-breaks-up-with-him-to-spare-him" story which is a delicate trope to use without suspending disbelief. But here, the author manages it well and authentically (no easy feat) thanks to a secondary (and heartbreaking) subplot that feeds into the main relationship like a tributary. Excellently structured.

My main quibble was that the author's voice that I loved so much sort of vanished during the steamy scenes. I'm no prude by any stretch, but the language of the book was realistic, but sort of gentle too, and then the sex scenes *sounded* rougher and more coarse. I felt like the f-bombs and more graphic phrasing were out of sync with the rest of the prose. It's not a huge deal (and the steamy bits were quite satisfying in themselves) but it threw me out a little.

Overall, I enjoyed the book immensely. It was smart, engaging, and lacking in angst while simultaneously handling deep emotion with aplomb. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Holy ugly cry alert! This story had me looking like a hot mess, let me tell you. I was so glad that no one was home when I was reading it.

“Love is pretty rare. Real love, anyway. When you find the one, you hold on, for however long you’re allowed.”

This book gutted me! It started out all sweet and lovey-dovey. I was laughing.

“Jack was one hundred percent right: I needed to get back out there. I had to lose this awkwardness I had around human beings with a penis.”

It was sexy.

“I need to go.” Kiss. “Now.” Kiss. “Fuck, Paige…” He backed me up against the door and pressed his body to mine, devouring my lips and moaning into my mouth. I whimpered at the hardness against my stomach and fought the urge to rub myself against it.”

Then it ripped my heart out! Ahh, the agony! Slowly, it mended it a tiny bit to then shatter it to pieces again! It was heart-wrenching. But at the same time, I couldn’t stop reading it! As tears were streaming down my face, I was furiously swiping the pages, needing to know what was coming next.

“She was my home. I loved Paige in all-consuming, frightening as fuck way that I never thought possible.”

And that right there is what kept me glued to the pages. It was sad, yet so touching. Emotional in so many ways that I loved every minute of it, even as snot dripped down my face. At times, I wanted to strangle Paige, but knew exactly why she was making the choices she made. But Evan, oh Evan, what a perfect swoon-worthy man!

I loved that we got a quick glimpse at Lucas from the first book, Always You! If you are a fan of true love and second chances, this book is for you! Just don’t forget the tissues!! ~ Tiffany, 4.5 stars

~~~
While reading Paige and Evan's story, it had me thinking of a dear friend that went through all the frogs before meeting her prince—and how sweet it was when he finally appeared and rescued her.
Paige hasn't really had an easy road yet her BF, Jack has always been there helping her deal with life. One thing Paige never expected was for Evan to waltz in and capture her heart since it's been shattered so many times.
Evan has always had feelings for Paige, yet he never thought he actually had a chance with her until fate stepped in. I gotta say I FLOVED Evan and the way he treated Paige—never rushing her but helping her to see that she was worthy of love!!
Like life, Evan and Paige had a rough patch and ugh, I wanted to sucker punch his trifling ex. Now, the prologue had me wondering what in the world Paige did, and when I finally read that part, I was heartbroken not only for her but for Evan as well. You will just have to read it to understand what I mean!
Be prepared to have Kleenex ready—and your patience as well, because at times I felt my tablet was not going to survive this book. All in all, this was a beautifully written story of second chances in love, mourning your losses and allowing yourself to be loved the way it was meant to be. ~ Kara, 4.5 stars
Only You is a touching and deeply emotional second chance/friends to lovers romance. It will pull at your heart strings, make you swoon, and your pulse race. You won't be able to stop yourself from falling in love with not only the main characters, Paige and Evan, but also the secondary characters like Jack, Ellie, Tess, and Natalie. Although this is book 2 in the author's Second Chances series, this can absolutely be read as a stand alone.
Evan is the epitome of book boyfriends. He is so incredibly sweet that I wouldn't be surprised if I have a cavity after reading this book! His unconditional love for his friends and family knew no limits and the words that fell out of this man's mouth were out of control swoony and hot! Let's just say that words aren't the only thing his mouth is good at either! ;) I fell in love with Evan from the very beginning and he's a hero you can't help but root for to get that HEA.
Paige and Evan had amazing chemistry and I loved them together. Their scenes were heartfelt and moving, but also silly and playful at times. Yes, there was angst and the inevitable push away, but all the actions and decisions made by our characters were rooted in love whether you agree with the decisions or not. If anything, it is a reminder that our individual choices can have very large ramifications on us and those we love.
Stephanie Rose's exceptional writing is so honest, witty, and raw that I found the characters and situations completely relatable and realistic. I felt the joy and elation of life and love, but I also experienced the despair and grief of heartache right along with these characters. Even though there are heavier themes in this book, they were handled eloquently, and even humorously, when it was needed most. Only You is truly a beautiful story about the capacity to love and be loved.
“Love is pretty rare. Real love, anyway. When you find the one, you hold on, for however long you’re allowed.”
Only You is the second book in the A Second Chances Novel series and boy does it not disappoint. I fell in love with Stephanie Rose’s writing in Always You and was beyond excited to see that she was writing another book. The bar was set high, hoping that she would once again deliver another amazing read, and let me tell you, she did not let me down. She blew my expectations out of the water and took me on one amazing journey.
Only You is beautifully written and is told from dual points of view. This story starts off with one heck of a bang, leaving me with an aching heart and a desperate need to find out what happened with Paisley and Evan. What I didn’t know and was no way prepared for was just how their story would affect me. Their story grabbed a hold of my heart and refused to let me go. This is one of those reads that demands to be read. It begs you to read and devour every word. The characters bury themselves so deep, that they become apart of you; making you feel as though their emotions are your own and that you are apart of this story.
Only You was such an amazing read. I not only fell in love with Evan and Paisley, but I also fell in love with the side characters. They really added so much to the story and one in particular really stood out and just devastated my heart. This book really touched my heart and soul so deeply. It made me think about and feel so many things. I feel as though I’ve been put through an emotional wringer and I mean that in the best way possible.
Only You is not just a story about romance, and there was plenty of that. This is a story about second chances, falling in love, loss, strength and hope. Only You tackled quiet a few very difficult subjects and Stephanie Rose did a stand up job tackling them. She really shed light on so many things for me and really sent the message home that life is too short and when you have true love, fight for it. Don’t give you fears and insecurities the power to make you miss out on things. Life is just too short.
If you're looking for a book boyfriend to totally swoon over, look no further because Stephanie Rose has created Evan for the sole purpose of swooning.
It's not often we find characters this real and relatable in the book world and while Evan and Paige have their flaws, they are extremely likable and a couple you can't help rooting for. Evan's heart knows no bounds and the way he loves his Daisy is timelessly effortless. I dare you to find a book boyfriend so open with his emotions and selfless with his heart.
Stephanie takes us on an up close and personal journey with Only You, one you definitely don't want to miss.
‘After a lifetime of mediocre, I finally had a glimpse of amazing-and there would be no going back from that. At least not in one piece.’
Well we are emotionally wrecked from reading Only You, talk about making our hearts swoon and beat out of our chest one minute then breaking into pieces the next! Only You lulls you into a swoon worthy friends to lover’s romance with -15 missing years apart- for our hero and heroine. Paige and Evan’s story was beautiful yet so very sad – stunning in its romance, love and friendship. The loyalty and passion was intense and real. We felt every single word written by Stephanie Rose; what a stunning writer she is!
‘In time he’d see. I did it for him.’
Evan has to be one of the most beautiful male characters we’ve read. Our hearts bled for this man. He was a hero, always there for everyone – written with just enough vulnerability and compassion to even out his controlling alpha male streak. His heart was so big and he wore it on his sleeve.
“I’ll never make the mistake of holding back with you ever again. You’re mine. You’re everything.”
Paige too was a heroine whom we took to our hearts immediately; she’s not had it easy settling down nor in her family life. Yet she’s level-headed, caring and a successful woman. We felt so incredibly sorry for her and shed many tears following her journey.
‘Sometimes, life didn’t make one bit of goddamn sense.’
Ultimately, what we loved about Only You was the simplicity. The simplicity of romance and love – friendship and loyalty. It was all here to see and experience. Nothing was overwritten – it flowed with perfection and emotion. Sure, we would have loved a bit more in one respect to heal our reading hearts but….it was nearly there. We truly felt the love, the internal struggles – we believed!
‘If you love something set it free.’
Grab your tissues and hold on to your heart! What a beautiful and heartfelt love story!!! Evan and Paige stole my heart - I couldn't get enough of these two. This book was sweet, steamy, heart-wrenching, and nearly every emotion in between. I laughed, I cried, and I most definitely swooned. I can't wait to see what Stephanie Rose has in store for us next!
I was really looking forward to this 'cause I absolutely love stories where the guy has been head-over-heels-in-love & the girl never knows; but this was so badly written that it made all the good things look..not so good.
So the plot is that the H has been in love with h since he was fifteen & tried to tell her how he feels but she was always dating someone else. & this is the first thing that I didn't love about the book. We are told numerous times, by both the H & h, that her exes are all assholes and the big fucking coincidence is that they were all cheaters. All. Of. Them. It would've been a little more believable if that wasn't the case. Plus, her last ex, also her fiance, was also a cheater (surprise,surprise) & he had an affair with her bf, & she keeps saying that she never loved either of them. Then why the fuck did you agree to marry the guy & make the other one your best friend.
"I know, I know. When you’re over thirty, and all your friends are married and on their way to having children, you settle for what you can get. At least that’s what I did. It’s not something I’m proud of—at all. Did I ever tell you how he proposed? No getting down on one knee with some declaration of love. He slid the ring box across the table at The Clipper, shrugged, and said ‘so?’”
Who would say yes to that? God!
They're both almost thirty now but they don't act like it. No, they acted like two horny sixteen year-olds. Yes, I said horny, not sexy, 'cause the whole making out thing didn't sit well with me (The h would go to his office & make-out with him on his desk or they would do it in the supply closet) , I didn't like this because we were 'told' they did all that and that it was 'amazing'. Plus, the jealousy thing was just so annoying.
The jealousy, the crazy exes (both of their exes), not acting like a grown-up and the winking. Oh God, the winking!
"Tomorrow.” Evan winked before turning back inside.
I winked at her and turned to Evan.
I gave Angelica a wink and she giggled.
She gave me a wink and laughed, but I was too agitated to join in.
I winked at her to see if I could melt away some of the ice coming from her direction.
I gave him a wink
I gave him a playful smile and a wink.
He gave me a wink and a smirk.
He winked as he took a swig of beer.
And those were only in the first 30% of the book.
You can’t answer a text or return a phone call? I’ve been trying to talk to you all day. You can’t avoid me forever, Paige.” His hay-colored eyes still glared at me. I sighed in defeat as I moved to the side to let him in, and tried to ignore the sting of being called Paige, not Daisy.
The 'sting' of not being called Daisy, really? That would've been justified if he called her Daisy all the time but he didn't so, shut up, Daisy.
After going through all that, I think it was safe to say that I wasn't gonna like this. And the writing wasn't good enough to keep me going. If you think you don't mind all these things then go ahead, I won't stop you.
Paige has never had much luck with men in her life. She seems to always choose the wrong ones. Until Evan Jacobs. Evan is an old family friend and best friend to her cousin, Jack. He’s back in town to help Jack with his flooring business. Evan has always wanted Paige, but the timing was always off. Until now. As Paige and Evan reignite their friendship, other feelings come to the surface. Sometimes the love you have been searching for has been there all along.
“You’re all mine. I waited long enough for you.”
The love between Paige and Evan blossomed into something beautiful. They have loved before. But never like this. Never this deeply. Someone has never meant this much. You watch two souls awaken over time. Then tragedy strikes and rocks them to their core. Can their relationship survive this? But despite that they both love relentlessly. Wholeheartedly. And even when a truth comes to light, their love is determined to endure and win until Paige makes a decision.
“I don’t remember when she went from the girl of my dreams to the love of my life, but now she was as essential as the air in my lungs and the blood in my veins.”
Evan Jacobs. Every man should strive to be like him. His heart and soul is so pure, so good. He loves through the unthinkable. Through the inevitable. As Paige pushes him away, he loves harder. He pushes harder, for his love knows no boundaries. There is no obstacle his love cannot overcome.
“Does your heartbeat still say Daisy?”
“It’ll say ‘Daisy’ until it stops beating.”
This story also resonated on a deeply personal level for me. The author masterfully crafted her story in a way to allow the reader to feel every single emotion. To experience the struggles that Evan and Paige faced as individuals as well as a couple. To understand their issues, concerns, and the pain these two go through. How choices and decisions, no matter the consequences, are made in the best interest of those we love the most. I loved how real this story felt. The emotions jumped off of the pages. The author truly poured her heart into this and it was felt by every single word of the story. Her poise. Her voice. This story was simply stunning as it was beautiful.
“You’re my heartbeat, my lifeline, my Daisy. You’re all the beauty in my life.”
Only You is an poignant and emotional story about what happens when love is threatened. What happens when you are faced with news that changes everything? You fight for your love. You love harder. As Evan and Paige did. Their story is inspiring. It gives hope. Their love never wavered. Never gave up. What a privilege to read a love story like theirs. I am so excited for what’s to come from this author.
~ 5 My Daisy Stars ~
Wow!!! The feels in this story were amazing!!! Talk about a book pulling at your heartstrings.
Only You is Stephanie Rose's second novel and just as she did with her first book, she totally knocked this out of the park. I will DEFINITELY read anything this author writes. What I love most is how real her stories feel to me. She touches on subjects that an everyday person or couple might face in their lifetime (the subjects in this story I think are going to touch a lot of people. They are situations that many face today). She truly puts her heart and soul into these stories and characters. You can't help but connect with both and feel like you are right there with these characters.
As with the first book, Only You is a cross between a second chance love story and a friends to lovers story. In this story I would say it was more of an unrequited love story than the second chance love story. Because Evan has been in love with Paige since he was fifteen years old. He just never had the nerve to tell her until they meet again years later.
Stephanie has amazing talent when it comes to giving her readers a sweet love story. She makes you fall in love with the characters, so you feel like your emotions are on a roller coaster when drama ensues. This book was heartfelt, and heart wrenching, but also had it's fun times and it's sexy times. It was the perfect combination!!! What I really loved is that this book isn't overcome with excess drama. She added just enough to keep the story interesting and make the reader want to turn the page to see how it all worked out. Many might think this book is an insta love type story, but it truly isn't. Yes the couple get together pretty quickly but it makes sense since they have been friends for many years.
Only You is the second book in the Second Chances Series, but is a complete stand alone. You truly do not need to read the first book before reading this one, but I don't know why you wouldn't, both books are FABULOUS!!!! This book is about Paige and Evan. They are a totally new couple, although I did like how they do tie into Lucas and Sam from book 1 (I also liked the small glimpse we saw of Lucas in this story) With that said you will not be lost reading this book if you haven't read book 1.
I loved Paige and Evan….they are both amazing characters. Both were funny, loving and loyal. Also they were extremely strong characters, they needed to be after everything they have to go through. We also got to meet some extraordinary secondary characters….Jack and Ellie. I honestly can't say how much I loved these two characters without giving the story away, I just know that everyone should meet Paige, Evan, Jack and Ellie. I honestly felt like the secondary characters were just as important to this story as the primary characters were. But don't take my word for it, READ THIS BOOK!!!!
I would 100% recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a second chance romance or a friends to lovers story. This book will have you giggling, crying, smiling and blushing, but overall it will leave you with a HUGE smile on your face. This is definitely one I will read again in the future!!!! I look forward to more book by this author.
What a beautifully inspiring, tear-inducing, heart-clenching book! I loved Evan and Paige’s story…it made me laugh and cry; it had me swooning hard. Only You is an incredible story of second-chances, of friends-to-lovers, of heartbreak and sorrow, it’s a book that will consume you and make you feel so many emotions. When the tears start within the first 10% of a book you know you better grab some tissues and buckle down.
Paige and Evan reconnect after he moves back home at the request of his best friend, Jack, who also happens to be Paige's cousin. It turns out Evan's had a crush on Paige since they were teens, but she was Jack's cousin, and always so busy with other guys, that he never really pursued her. But now that he's home he's not about to let this chance slip through his fingers again. I loved watching their relationship develop. They had such great chemistry, and with their history there was an ease and comfortableness between them.
Their worlds are thrown into a tailspin after a horrible loss and Paige is completely devastated. Not only that, she's been dealing with some terrible news on a personal level and starts to distance herself from Evan. Paige is such a strong and fiesty character, it was tough watching her go through things on her own, especially considering it was by her choosing. I was feeling the pain and despair right alone with her.
Evan is an absolutely incredible character, I fell head over heels for him from the moment he was introduced. He’s so loving and caring, he’s funny and sexy, and I just loved how much he loved Paige. Even when she tried to push him away, doing what she thought was best for him, he wouldn’t give up on her or let her give up on them. I’d go on but it might seem a little weird, gushing so much over a fictional character.
This is truly a wonderful book, with amazing characters whose lives I want to be a part of...is there a way to make this happen??? I was left with tears streaming down my face when I finished this book, it was hard to let go. It's still hard to let go, as I find myself once again in tears as I skim back through the book. I can see myself revisiting Only You, time and again.
"You're all the beauty in my life."
***Although this is the second book in the Second Chances series it could definitely be read as a standalone.
"I love you, and I'm not going anywhere."
Only You is the second book in the Second Chances series by Stephanie Rose. It is a story of deriving beauty from ashes.
"Something about Paige made me want to be her knight in shining armor and come to her rescue."
Paige is headstrong and makes poor love decisions. But she is sweet and caring. Seeing Evan again has renewed her dating determination. He is sexy and sweet with an alpha streak, and has always had a thing for Paige.
"I want you to own me."
Told in dual points of view, Only You captured my heart. Every time Evan spoke, I melted into a puddle of goo. The man had a mouth that created sensual words that were so tempting and tantalizing. Paige was strong, almost to a fault, but Evan was her unwavering pillar.
"You own me. Can't you see that? You're the only one I want. Only you."
The laughter and tears were plenty in Only You and contributed to the wonderful feel of the story. In addition to the story of our main characters, we were also allowed to read the story of some amazing secondary characters and mysterious new characters that were just as emotionally driven.
"I've been down so much I've forgotten what up feels like."
Stephanie Rose tackled an intimidating subject matter and did so with grace and realism. Her writing opened readers' eyes to life's struggles and the depths to which they can plummet. But, also allowed for us to see the value of life and the importance of love in times of despair. This is a definite read for readers who love romance and life's second chances.
"The only thing I want in life is you. No one else can give me that."
4.5 emotional stars. I can't believe it took me so long to read this entire series. This was one of the most emotional books I have read. Talk about tears? wow
Paige..such a sweeheart and had poor choices for men. she's close to her cousin Jack and his wife Ellie along with her bestie. Jack has been sick and and needed help with his business so he calls in his best friend Evan to come help him. Whats cute about Evan is that he has been in love with Paige since he was 15 years old. Everyone knew except Paige. Now in their early 30s, they reconnect and the chemistry between them is amazing!!
What Paige doesnt know at first is the real reason Evan is back in town. Everyone tries to shield her from everything, but her and Jack are like brother and sister, which makes her even more upset. As I was reading, I was hoping for different things, and I felt the tears coming...then it hit me. I was a mess.
In addition to Paige and Evan reconnecting, she is dealt with another blow. I'm here thinking how much can this poor girl take? She has an amazing man that adores her and then this happens. The way she handled it made me want to shake her a few times, but when its all said and done, you never know how you will react either. Through the heartbreak and love, Paige and Evan are an amazing couple.. it was great seeing some characters briefly from the previous book. Loved that.
Like I said, this was an emotional read for me. My heart broke but was put back together. Evan and Paige showed how much their love helped them through tragedy and was the healing factor they needed as well. Awesome read!!
A sweet and emotional friends-to-lovers story of Evan and Paige. Their interconnected relationships with their families and friends eclipsed the attraction they had for each other when they were young. Then one day, time and distance are finally on their side.
Evan and Paige. Soulmates. Their love and connection felt real and deep and there's no doubt in my mind that they are truly meant for each other. They're so good together, happy or sad moments.
〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️
**spoiler alert*warning**
What I dislike is the way they handled the most difficult test of their relationship and lives. I kinda understand h's decision to keep it a secret at first. It wasn't easy for her but it felt like the right thing to do at that time.
H was grieving his bestfriend's death (h's cousin), and buried himself deep on restoring their crumbling business. But I don't get why H did not notice that the h was changing physically and not in a good way? If he did notice, I guess it wasn't enough for him to investigate what's happening. It was obvious that something's very wrong. I expected him to see through h's sudden unusual behavior and put his foot down instead of letting her push him away.
〰️〰️〰️
Time to admit, I had to check spoilers before reading this because my heart is not strong enough to deal with MC's.. you know. 😁
Anyway, I'm happy they made it through together. The epilogue was my favorite! I wanted it so bad for them because they really deserve it! *tears of joy* ❤️
Safe?
In the beginning of their relationship, some OW and OM drama that are handled quickly.
OW kissed H, and h saw it.
No other people once H and h got together.
So totally blown away right now! I fell in love with Stephanie's writing in her debut novel Always You and could not wait to get my hands on Only You. She absolutely surpassed every expectation I thought I had. This book is real, raw and so beautiful, that I'm still reeling from what I just read. I honestly think I felt every emotion humanly possible. There were times I laughed, times I swooned, and times I cried so hard I actually had to walk away and compose myself.
Paige and Evan were childhood friends whose paths crossed once again, eliciting an instant attraction and old feelings. I loved everything about these two. Paige was such a strong female character, and Evan for sure stole my heart. Their relationship was fun, it was intense and it melted my heart. The secondary characters in this book were also amazing. One in particular touched me so deeply, that I will never be the same. Stephanie takes us on a roller coaster ride in this story. She touched on subject matters that probably have affected us all in some way. She did so with grace, understanding and superb writing. She also shows us all the true meaning of unwavering love and support.
I don't think I could recommend this book enough. It is by far one of the best books I've ever read. A definite five star read. Stephanie did a wonderful job giving us an epic love story. I'm so excited for what she brings us next.
What a nice surprise! I had never heard of this author before or her books and then I won this book in an author takeover...and boy am I glad I did. I love second chance love stories and this one did not disappoint!
Paige had always fallen for the wrong guy. One after the other and now she knew she needed a break, until Evan walked back into her life. Evan had been in love with Paige most of his life, but she so unattainable. Until the one day they run into each other again.
But is love truly enough? Read Only You and find out! Its so worth it! I am going to go read Always you now and can't wait for the book!
Happy reading!
I was participating in a group read of this book but I was enjoying it so much I read ahead and finished it really quickly. This story has absolutely everything! There are sweet moments, sexy moments, swoon worthy lines, heartbreak, suspense, and anything else that you could hope for in a good book. Evan is absolutely PERFECT! He is such a great man for Paige. The closeness of the friends and family in this book really warmed my heart. Not everyone has that so it's definitely something to hold on to and cherish. I also loved the cameo appearance! That was a nice surprise.
Wow. What a sweet, emotional-yet-funny read. I cried; I laughed; I swooned. It was good.
Everyone needs an Evan. He was an awesome hero.
Paige pissed me off. I liked her; hell, I even understood why she did what she did that angered me, but she still acted stupidly.
I could have done without the ex drama. It was unnecessary. Why does every book portray exes as crazy, unhinged weirdos who can't take no for an answer?
I am glad I read this one. It'd been on the shelf for a while, and it was pretty awesome.
Only you can be read as a standalone! I absolutely fell in love with Evan right from the beginning in this second chance romance, he is totally swoon worthy. Stephanie blew me away with this one and then pretty much ripped my heart out and stomped on it for a bit ;) This story had all the feels like I crave in a book. I really enjoyed this one!
May contain some minor spoilers (I tried not to!)
When it comes to books, one of the most important criteria for me is to have well-developed characters. It doesn't matter to me if the book is only 50 pages or 500 pages, if I cannot connect with the characters, the book is much harder to get into. Suffice it to say, Only You by Stephanie Rose was an easy story to feel connected to. Right from the start, I fell in love with the characters! I mean, when at 9%, I'm crying, you obviously have developed feelings for the characters. This wasn't a book that you bawled your eyes out throughout (thank goodness!), but I certainly cared about the characters and their fates and found myself tearing up and crying at times. I love those books!
Evan had had a crush on Paige since they were teenagers, but her being his best friend's cousin (more like a twin sibling, as they were born within an hour of each other and raised together) made him keep his distance. When Jack got sick, Evan moved back home to help out, and reconnected with Paige. You get the opportunity to see how Evan and Paige's relationship develops over time (I was so glad it wasn't "insta-love", although you could feel the chemistry between the two!) and the highs and lows found in a relationship. As a couple, they had to experience a lot of difficult situations, but the love they had for each other helped to pull them through.
In addition, the supporting characters added so much to the storyline. I loved Jack and Ellie (and baby Jack), Paige's mom was typical of how I think many daughters see their mother (ok, maybe just me), and Jack's parents were so strong- especially his father, Paige's uncle. Natalie was the perfect best friend to Paige. I related well to Evan's dad, and if there was one thing I would have liked to have seen in the novel, it would have been having Evan and his dad's relationship get stronger. You get a sense of it, though.
This was a second chance romance- a genre that I tend to gravitate toward. I loved the fact that Evan was so open with the fact that he had always had feelings for Paige (he is swoonworthy!) and that Paige was able to finally find a good guy that wasn't out to hurt her. Paige had been mentioned briefly in Ms. Rose's first novel, Always You, as a former "girlfriend" of Marc. I loved how A couple of the characters from that book made cameo appearances in this novel!
Told in alternating points of view, the reader can get a sense of each main character's inner thoughts. I read the author's first novel earlier in the summer and anxiously awaited this novel. As phenomenal as debut was, Only You blew that one away! Ms. Rise's writing gets better with each book!
Needless to say, this was an easy book to give 5 stars to! This is a book I will most certainly reread!!!
I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy for an honest review.
4.5 Stars
‘After a lifetime of mediocre, I finally had a glimpse of amazing-and there would be no going back from that. At least not in one piece.’
Well we are emotionally wrecked from reading Only You, talk about making our hearts swoon and beat out of our chest one minute then breaking into pieces the next! Only You lulls you into a swoon worthy friends to lover’s romance with -15 missing years apart- for our hero and heroine. Paige and Evan’s story was beautiful yet so very sad – stunning in its romance, love and friendship. The loyalty and passion was intense and real. We felt every single word written by Stephanie Rose; what a stunning writer she is!
‘In time he’d see. I did it for him.’
Evan has to be one of the most beautiful male characters we’ve read. Our hearts bled for this man. He was a hero, always there for everyone – written with just enough vulnerability and compassion to even out his controlling alpha male streak. His heart was so big and he wore it on his sleeve.
“I’ll never make the mistake of holding back with you ever again. You’re mine. You’re everything.”
Paige too was a heroine whom we took to our hearts immediately; she’s not had it easy settling down nor in her family life. Yet she’s level-headed, caring and a successful woman. We felt so incredibly sorry for her and shed many tears following her journey.
‘Sometimes, life didn’t make one bit of goddamn sense.’
Ultimately, what we loved about Only You was the simplicity. The simplicity of romance and love – friendship and loyalty. It was all here to see and experience. Nothing was overwritten – it flowed with perfection and emotion. Sure, we would have loved a bit more in one respect to heal our reading hearts but….it was nearly there. We truly felt the love, the internal struggles – we believed!
‘If you love something set it free.’
**Reviewed from an ARC copy provided by the author, with thanks**
NB: We read this as a standalone and followed the story perfectly.
3.5-4 stars. Paige has had her fair share of bad experiences in relationships, usually the guy turns out to be a scumbag or cheater. She's decided to give herself some space to grow before diving into another relationship while she focuses on her career. Then Evan moves back into town, a guy she knew growing up because he is best friends with her close cousin Jack, and Paige finds herself wanting to get to know him better.
Evan has always liked Paige from afar but the timing was never right for him to pursue more. Instead, he had to watch her go out with jerks while always wanting the chance to prove to her that he would be everything she needed. Evan has had his own fair share of heartache in life while growing up. By nature, he is a giver and when he cares about someone, he gives them everything. Now that he and Paige are single, the timing couldn't be better and he's determined to make his move and be her man for good.
Because Jack is a strong secondary character who is close to both Evan and Paige, the relationship development moves at a good pace that is believable and organic. Evan seems like the boy-next-door, but he definitely has a latent alpha side that only comes out if it has anything to do with Paige. There's a strong family theme in this story and during the hardest of times, it's family (blood related or not) who help pull each other together. After one tragedy already, Paige is worried that another one could devastate everyone. When it comes to love, is it more important to let it go by self-sacrifice or to spread the responsibility of a burden that could have a poor outcome?
Ah! I just finished this and was absolutely blown away at Stephanie Rose's talent. If you want a book to make you 'feel' this is it! What a love-filled emotional ride that I didn't want to end.
I read for the heroes in my books and Evan did not disappoint. Evan is the epitome of the best book boyfriend. His heart is so big and his love for the heroine is unconditional. It's the kind of love that has you sighing unconsciously out loud, the kind of love that makes you smile big, while reading it. You'll be gushing for this man all throughout the book like I was. I guaranty it.
As for the heroine, I instantly adored Paige. She's been dealt some bad cards and hasn't had the best luck with men. That was until Evan swooped her up and made her his. You can't help but sympathize with her because she's the type of heroine that sacrifices herself, her happiness for the happiness of others.
Without giving too much away, this book encompassed everything you want in a book. It'll make you swoon crazy style, laugh out loud and cry so hard you won't be able to see straight.
But the greatest thing is...this story of Evan and Paige is a true testament that love truly does conquer all.
Stephanie Rose did an amazing job! You'll want to pick this one up for sure.
Evan is dreamy and absolutely mesmerizing!
He gives me that true love.....first love.....soul mate.....enchanted type love FEELS! Gah! Obsessed with him.
You want the person you love to look at you the way Evan looks at Paige.
Stephanie Rose can write her butt off! Seriously. If you want that special feeling of being in a dream like state.....drunk off of her words where your heart feels heavy at times but also light and you feel like your seconds away from combustion or melting.....you need to read her books. It's what I call the Stephanie Rose "After Glow" and it just can't be duplicated.
I keep going into each book thinking, "She can't top the last one, right?" Pffft.....she's the book boyfriend Queen!
Evan is no exception, he is high on my perfect book boyfriend pedestal and he's never coming down.
He's a modern day hot AF prince charming that is so sweet, so charming, with alpha tendencies and a dirty mouth, HE'S PERFECT!
This book was absolutely amazing. It made me laugh, get angry, and ugly cry. Stephanie dealt with two issues close to my heart, cancer and Lupus. She tackled them with poise and grace and made you see the pain that can come along with each one. The loss of Jack was gut wrenching and when Daisy left Evan it broke to an point of almost not finishing the book after what happened with Jack. However, my need to know how it ended won out and I am so glad it did. The epilogue where they are married with Lucy was so perfect. It gave enough to see the HEA but also wasn't over done. I would recommend this book to anyone.
Holy moly!!! Stephanie has done it again. I loved this book. I got the chance to beta relax for her. She's totally rocked it.
Paige was living her life not looking for a man because the last one she caught with her best friend. When Evan comes back to town he's not the geeky boy she remembered. He's hot & single. Things start to spiral outta control... Can Evan make Paige see he loves her & she's the Only One for him?
