A certain, um, body part runs away from his owner. Wearing a hot-dog toy disguise, he clashes with warrior pigeons, suicidal hummingbirds, and griping squirrels. He is soon imprisoned in Male Re-education Kamp, wars with cynical plums, woos amorous cardiac valves, livers, and cupcakes, joins forces with hyper-testosterone Komodo Dragons, and is shanghaied by a femme pirate crew to help harpoon Mobo, the 90-foot moray eel who is the font of worldwide testosterone. Tricky is a savagely-funny trip into male delusion, sneaky body parts, repression, amorality and – what the hey – gigantor moray eels that stream flaming jizz.
He is the author of six novels — Tricky (his latest), Hello Devilfish!, infra, Newt, Hammers and Mantids, and two collections of poetry. His work runs the gamut from surrealism to sci-fi pastiche.
Publishers Weekly reviews Hello Devilfish!: "Resistance may be futile, but this book at least makes it fun" and named him "a writer with a fine ear and plenty of gusto."
Library Journal lauds Hello Devilfish! as "an audacious, laugh-out-loud novel that is brilliantly committed to its conceit."
Kirkus Reviews called Hammers "cartilaginous prose, soft as fishbone, sense-bending and scattershot as a Robin Williams shtick."
Point No Point magazine tagged Hammers as "a cross between jive bullshit, hip-hop Henny Youngman, and full-tilt Rimbaudian street-smartass sublimity."
Raven Chronicles judged him "as sinister as a thirteen-year-old with a lighter and a keg of butane."
Tricky by Ron Dakron is a witty fantastical story that would take you on a fun roller-coaster ride of laughter.
This book is nothing like any other book you might have ever read! It is simply surreal. The characters are wonky, the concept itself is hilarious and the story itself progresses in a way that would make you question everything about practically everything! But underneath all the colourful dazzling humour and funny characterisation, lies a very important message that is hard to miss and cuts right to the heart. And that is what makes this book such a special and powerful read.
I would strongly recommend this book to all book lovers, especially to those who like feminist literature and egalitarian texts. _______________________
‘Tricky’ is a dystopian fairy tale filled with action and adventure and a semi-weird concept of a story that is extremely funny and will make you wonder. You definitely have to have a sense of humor in order to like this book. What stands out in this book is the quality of the literature and the way the author words the story. He certainly has a way of telling a story, and I found it very unique.
The book cover is well thought out. It represents the concept inside and keeps you intrigued and wanting to know what it is about.
Tricky, the protagonist’s personality really pulls the plot together. The fast-paced storytelling also complements the twists and turns. I recommend this book for fiction readers, action and humor fans.
