Haruka Sakura came to the ultimate delinquent school, Furin, in order to fight his way to the top and usurp the school gang's leader. But when he finds out that Furin High School has now changed into an organization called Bofurin, with the sole purpose of protecting the town, Sakura finds himself becoming a part of their cause, fighting for others for the first time. Furin and the devotees of power, Shishitoren, clash match after match in the tournament with their teams on the line, leading to the final two fights where Furin must now face off against the menacingly strong and proud vice-captain, Togame, and their captain, Tomiyama.

The artwork is nice and the action is really good there was times were a try to get a little philosophical which some might not like but I thought it was OK it’s definitely getting interesting to see what the final fight will look like in this Brawl between the two gangs

Ahh miscommunication i really hate it... They should've talked it out. Damn sako's one sided love...🫣

Choji needs a therapist and Kame needs a self care day. That's honestly just so sad and beautiful at the same time, he became the darkness so that the light keeps shining without dimming.
I think that if Sakura was Choji's best pal instead of Togame, this shit would never happen since Sakura would smack some fact into Choji's head. I love this tsundere strong will boy. He do pushes everyone's buttons.

[4.5/5] For something that is pretty cheesy and over the top in some regards, this is such a good manga. The characters are great and the action very good. The action scenes are relatively easy to follow (which can be hard in this medium) but the anime really nails it.

SAKURA I LOOOOOVEEEE YOOOOUUU 💖🥹💖 YOU ARE A STAR. MY GUIDING LIGHT.

I said in my last review that I’d be going off about Sakura and Togame in this review…and here I am to deliver.

I fucking ADORE Sakura. In this volume, his perspective on what strength and power really mean shine through. While he’s fighting Togame, he’s actively reading him to filth the entire time because he genuinely finds Togame to be disgusting for his actions. He thinks Shishitoren and their guiding principles are broken. Sakura finds the concept of “devotees of power” to be compelling and interesting, but the way Shishitoren live their principles are diametrically opposed to how Sakura believes they should be upheld. He doesn’t consider them strong because they go after the weak, both outside and inside their own group, and they’ll kick someone even when they’re down. Sakura highlights how Togame is a hypocrite and not actually living up to the ideals he claims to hold up as a “devotee of power” by emphasizing how his actions are just those of a bully, thus a lowlife in Sakura’s eyes. It’s IMMACULATE. I cheered so many times reading what my baby had to say to Togame 💖🥰💖

As for Togame, we get in this volume half of his story with Choji. My baby boy makes my heart ACHE SO BAD. MAKE THE PAIN STOP 😭🔫 this volume highlights how Choji and Togame’s relationship took a turn for the worst. The reason it hurts so much to read is because the shit show Shishitoren has become is all because Togame loved Choji so much it blinded him to what was best not just for Choji but for everyone in Shishitoren. Togame literally saw Choji as the sun, as this shining light he’d gladly follow, and to try to preserve that image he tried to take in Choji’s darkness. The truth, however, is that you cannot take on someone’s darkness. You just end up tainted with your own.

By fighting with Sakura, Togame starts to realize the error of his ways. He learns that he’s fighting on that stage with Sakura for reasons that are ultimately empty and worthless. Seeing how fiercely Sakura stands for what he believes in, he begins to understand how that’s what he should’ve done to begin with. Instead of sticking to his ideals, he became the enforcer of Shishitoren by culling the “weak” from the “strong” to uphold Choji’s flawed vision. This sacrifice is ultimately spit in his face. The moment he surrenders in his fight against Sakura, Choji literally kicks him!

Choji’s act of violence against Togame is actually so repulsive to Sakura that he immediately steps in to defend Togame! My meow meow doesn’t even know entirely why he feels so strongly compelled to do so (after all, just seconds before he’d been fighting Togame himself), but things have significantly changed between them. As Umemiya says, Togame and Sakura had a ✨conversation✨with their fists. They learned about each other through their fight, and they came out of it seeing each other through a different lens. Even if Sakura’s brain hasn’t caught up to it entirely, he instinctively knows that things have changed with Togame and what Choji did was wrong.

It’s just SO FUCKING GOOD Y’ALL. This fucking story has me by the THROAT! I still can’t believe a manga/anime about a bunch of nerds *cough* boys who love to fight has me so incredibly locked in with their story. Ultimately, the reason why is simple enough. I don’t have anything inherently against stories that include fighting. I just need the fighting to have HEART and be grounded in CHARACTERS. The fighting has to MEAN something. This is exactly that. It was BUILT for me. I’m all for these boys beating each other up and experiencing emotional growth through doing so! 😌

I can’t wait to read the next volume as Umemiya finally fights Choji, and we get to see the other amazing part of the Shishitoren arc. I’m frothing at the mouth for it!

ch 15
hiragi vs sako, cont
surprisingly touching moment as sako realizes what hiragi is all about. not everything's about who's the strongest. (icb these ppl are 16-18 year olds)

ch 16
i can't stress how much i love togame's design when he's in the dark (and i do mean that metaphorically given choji's symbolism)
one thing i will never understand (and i'm dragging bllk into this again) is the average reader's desire to see the mc succeed at all costs and be an overpowered genius. call me crazy but i love seeing how many times an mc can fail and fail and fail. so in the meantime bc ik it won't last forever (or even one chapter) i'm gonna enjoy sakura getting beat up.

ch 17
sakura vs togame
typical "if my brain tells me i can't lose then i won't." and then magically their bodies get a power boost.
togame kicking sakura in the stomach was a scene i had to rewind in the show it was that good.
oh! he pauses the fight to beat up two other guys

ch 18
sakura vs togame, cont
and now we interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to take a brief intermission so we can get the most devastating gut wrenching backstory ever (save endochika). i'm not joking watching it is one thing, reading it is another. the moment where choji's eyes lose their shine and togame loses himself to protect the sun... heartbreaking.

ch 19
sakura vs togame, cont
oh my god he freed the hair.

ch 20
sakura vs togame, cont
i've had it with the "why does feel so damn good?" bc i've read it a million times with bllk. (no i won't stop dragging it into everything bc it's just so relevant here). do these ppl have a pain kink w the way they keep saying how much getting beaten to a bloody pulp feels soooo good.

ch 21
when u deck ur boyfriend oof. it's just as brutal as the anime which they even put on replay, smtg u don't usually see.

ch 22
umemiya vs choji
time for umemiya to beat some sense into choji

ch 23
umemiya vs choji, cont
oh dip he punched him. i love seeing a smaller character be fast and powerful. he really is giving me honey vibes from ohshc.

ouhh the sakura vs togame fight was suuuper intense, it's a surprise that we got this profound moment in this early arc?? i didn't expect to get moved by their lil conversation and *head in hands* idk why but i can tell the mangaka is very fond of the mc. like..... how they draw sakura? hands down, it's contagious when i can perceive this deep genuine love the mangaka has for their characters. also low-key ashamed to admit that i cried twice,
1. bc of the element of ur usual "senpai let me fw you" but somehow it didn't sound lame, so i shed a tear ofc
2. ume's gentle expression and the implication of how much his character has endured for him to choose being kind and gentle in the environment where he's growing up. (and the fact he is voiced by yuichi nakamura in my head now, truly didn't help) (i shed tears even more)

chef's kiss. the first conflict was so great to build us some understanding regarding of the most important characters in the manga series. which, in this volume we can get to know about other rival gang of Bofurin, Sishitoren. i looooooove the back story of each characters. i shed tears tbh. the action, check. the tension, check. further characters development and relationship, check. Sakura being the most important ace card in here is sooooo good to read like i love him for the way he behave and think. he constantly thinking that he's less than he is (he keep underestimating himself, like he does not deserve any kindness like at all) but the fact that he wasss so wise so mature and always stand on justice makes me fall in love with this characters. ALSO choji, togame jo from shisitoren gang !!

Why are all these kinds of manga so homoerotic like there’s always some friendships that seem a little TOO close like 🤨 crying—no, SOBBING over how much you care about each other?? You need the sun to keep smiling?? He’s your guiding light?? Be who you areeeeee 🌈🌈 im kidding, but for real, I do really like this narrative of close male friendships and how men CAN and DO care and love for each other. I think especially in the context of a typically masculine environment (fighting, gangs, etc.), it’s nice to see that there’s still lots of love and feelings there because boys have emotions!!!! And boys love their friends!!!! And boys cry!!!! And at the end of the day that doesn’t take away from how much of a “man” they are. Fellas is it gay to care about those close to you?

This was another great volume. We saw the conclusion to Hiiragi’s fight. Sakura and Togame Jo’s fight took up most of the volume. Togame went from being an almost pure antagonist to someone I kind of felt bad for. He was definitely made more sympathetic by some of the reveals. We end with the start of Ume’s fight.

The leader of Shishitoren is actually really creepy and I don’t like him at all. It was like, he found something and made it worse for purely selfish reasons. Because he was bored? It makes no sense to me. I guess I’ll see what happens in the next volume, and if they manage to turn him into a sympathetic character as well. At the moment, I don’t like him at all. I can’t wait till the next volume.
