⭐️⭐️⭐️.5-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (ARC Review)

''Control is yours too if only you'll take it''

Safety warnings:
- No OW/OM drama
- Cheating (gray area)
- Physical abuse
- Cliffhanger

I was really intrigued with the premise of this book. I don't think I ever read one that was anything like it and it really kept me asking questions and demanding to know answers throughout the entire time.

We meet Lucille who has been married to her Prince husband Roman. Their marriage is anything but good and the appearance they give to the world is all a show. Roman is deemed unfit for a lot of things and one of it is ruling the kingdom after his father passes. Enter Oliver who is tasked to play the role of the prince as they look very much alike.

We barely get a lot of information on Roman other than what we are presented with from Lucille's brief interactions with him and insights into their marriage.

The ending reveal was really shocking. I did not see it coming...but I did suspect something bad was happening behind the scenes that neither our MC's knew about.

There is cheating in this book but as stated in my warnings it's a gray area. Their marriage is basically dead in the water, and he is not a good man. The two MCs try to refrain from given in to their desires, but they find trust and comfort within each other that it was inevitable (however this is considered a real SLOW burn) And honestly finding out bits of information about Roman was enough for me to look past it all - especially with that ending.

I am really looking forward to finding out what the hell is going on and get answers to so many bizarre things that were going around. I am suspicious of almost everyone but Lucille and Oliver.

Roman Godfrey is ruthless, entitled, and unpredictable. She once craved his attention, but now their relationship was strained. She'd basically signed away her freedom to be a real person. A fairy tale with a ruthless twist and a dungeon full of skeletons is what Aleatha has served for banquet at a castle. These Royals are far more sinister and twisted than us plebians can ever imagine.
Power Corrupts, but absolute power Corrupts absolutely!!
This & control have maddened the Kings and Princes while princesses are being moved on their political chessboard as pawns.
Lucille is betrothed to Roman Godfrey, the Duke of Monovia and crown prince of Molave in a whirlwind affair arranged so strategically by their parents.
She is in love, dreams in her eyes and heart fill of passion....only to be trapped

"While I’d read stories where the prince saved the day, I gravitated toward the stories where the woman, be she a princess or a commoner, saved the kingdom. "

Oliver Honeswells enters her Kingdom and captures her attention. She's loyal, entrenched in duty, stuck within the insurmountable walls of the castle, waiting to be rescued

“I would take my vows to my grave and support him, the family, and the country."

Aleatha is a master of writing stories full of intrigue, keeping us guessing right till the last page. Twists, turns, secret tunnels and dark passageways add to the Mystery.
Oh, only if these thick, centuries old stone walls could talk, they'd echo with screams of betrayals, I'm sure.
I can't give you any more secrets cause I'm still trying to figure out who's loyal and who's a traitor.
I couldn't put this book down. It had passion and lust and breathless kisses
It had misery, frustration, desperation, it all mixed in a couldron of turmoil that spread far beyond the kingdom of Molave.
Cannot wait to read the next book.

""While I’d read stories where the prince saved the day, I gravitated toward the stories where the woman, be she a princess or a commoner, saved the kingdom. "

Oh sweet Lord!!! I never saw that ending coming!!!
What the hell is happening in the palace of Monovia??? What hidden skeletons are buried between the thick walls??? Wow!!! I still can not stop thinking about it!!!
I knew that something shady was happening within the walls of this kingdom, but I never thought of something like that!!!
I have so many questions and January seems so far away to receive them!!!

"Never had I imagined being an actor. It was what I'd become.
And it was about time for the curtain to rise."

Lucille was an ordinary girl with outstanding beauty until she wed the Prince of Monovia and became his princess...
Now, she is trapped in a role that she never asked for... and her love for the prince had died a brutal death very early on their marriage...
The world around them is breaking to pieces little by little and nobody is hearing her pleas to stop being just a pawn on other's games!!!
Monovia needs a change and Prince Roman might not be the most fitting man for the role of the King...
Enter Oliver, an actor who is about to play the biggest role of his life and the result will be twisted, but very explosive!!!

"What do I give you, Lucille?"
"Hope. Hope for Molave. Hope for me."

And now, you are wondering if there is cheating in here...
Well, the only thing I can say to you is that things are very complicated into this Palace!!!
Lucille and Roman's marriage is somewhat dead and things are not always as they're appearing!!!
Oliver and Lucille have a big connection since the very first moment and a mutual understanding between them...
She is a married woman, but who is her husband, after all???

"You are what I wish Roman could be, but you're not him."

I love royal romances and from the very first moment I've learned about this book, I knew that I needed to read it...
The political games and the games in general in here are too many and far too dangerous...
The agony of what will happen next is making my heart beat wildly!!!
I loved Lucille and Oliver very much and my heart is aching because they are two people trapped in a world full of smoking mirrors...
Will they be able to play the game and come out the winners or will they be bury under the secrets, lies and betrayals of the royal court???

"She was an angel sent to earth. I was the impostor who didn't deserve her."

Well, guess what, I have been Aleatha’d once again. This new series by Aleatha Romig is full of twists and turns, deceptions, secrets and intrigue. My mind is already full of scenarios, but I know with this author that it can go one of a million ways.

This story involves a Royal Family- King Theo, the Queen, Prince Roman, Princess Lucille and a Hollywood actor, Oliver. The way they all become intertwined is an interesting plot. It is smoke and mirrors and cloak and daggers. It is fast paced, well written and a slow burn. Of course there is a cliffhanger that sets up many new questions. I do know that I’m hooked and can’t wait to read more of this diabolical ruthless royal family.

Review:

“I’m losing touch with what is real and what’s not.”

I’ve read some of Aleatha’s books and I can assure you with certainty that this one is my favorite! I love the plot, the characters, the fact it’s a suspense with the royal thematic. The day to day of a royal family with their traditions and duties, it’s always an interesting topic to me and Aleatha described it all in a very entertaining and detailed way.

I can’t really tell much because I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but trust me when I tell the book is great.
There are so many things yet to be told in this story, you can prepare yourself for a plot twist and a cliffhanger.

Ruthless reign was absolutely riveting. The story holds your interest from the first word to the last. A page-turner that I could not stop reading. Ms. Romig has a way of binding you to her characters and scenes, making it hard to put the book down because you want to see what happens next. Her capacity to surprise, not just with twists and turns, but also by switching gears emotionally, she's really good at that.

Lucille and Oliver's story is complicated, leading the reader down a path that he least expects and suspense-filled. This novel does not disappoint and leaves you wanting more. The book is fast-paced, well-written, and thoroughly enjoyable. I would recommend this book to all who enjoy the twists and turns of a mystery. Once you start reading you’ll find it hard to stop. It is well worth your time.

Aleatha Romig returns with a brand new series focusing the secretive and dangerous lives of royalty in Ruthless Reign where the line between what is real and not real are blurred. The relationship between Lucille and Roman is both complicated and twisted. As the princess and crown prince of Molave, much was at stake but their marriage is not a happy one. Lucille is considered a prisoner in her own marriage as her vow and duty to the kingdom prevented her from saving herself. Despite their whirlwind romance, Roman has turned into a cruel and distant husband. Without any warning, he seemingly changes overnight and she finds herself full of hope again. But what lies underneath the surface may be what Lucille has always been hoping for—or, it was simply all an illusion.

"Maybe we were both insane. There was no other explanation for what she had done and what I was about to do."

Aleatha Romig has crafted a twisted tale that is intriguing, shocking, and full of grays because it deals with a form of cheating but not everything is what it seems. Oliver is an actor and the man tasked to play the role of Roman after the prince's disappearance. Following his character's death in a television show, he is asked to act as the crown prince of Molave and this is where the connection between he and Lucille is made. These two feel an immediate connection to each other and it is made all the more complicated by the fact that Lucille is married to Roman. Despite their best attempts at refraining from having feelings for each other, Lucille is forced to contend with her affections for Oliver and Roman. In this imposter's arms, she finally feels wanted, loved, and cherished after all this time.

"You have been my secret and sustenance. You filled a void that was consuming me… If you make me a promise and break it, then I will have nothing."

In the end, I was thoroughly surprised by this book and look forward to finding out what happens next in Resilient Reign after that shocking cliffhanger of an ending. Although it took me awhile to warm up to the story and its characters, it does eventually pick up and Aleatha Romig fantastically builds up the momentum to the final act of the book. Lucille is a woman trapped in a loveless marriage but finds hope and a second chance at love in a world of smoke and mirrors. I am rooting for her happy ending and I hope that the truth behind what happened to Roman will be revealed in the end. This was a unique take on royal romance and I highly recommend this book if you like the fake identity and forbidden romance tropes because it features a dedicated hero who sees his hopeful heroine and loves her for who she is instead of what others expect her to be.

4.5 STARS

Whether she’s writing stories on the dark side, the lighter side, or stories like “Ruthless Reign” that fall somewhere in between, Aleatha Romig has proven herself to be quite the consummate storyteller. And with this first installment to her new Royal Reflections series, she has also proven herself to be the one who actually reigns supreme!

While “Ruthless Reign” is a tale different from the rest, it is just as enthralling as her other books in every way that counts. This enticing and twisty royal tale drew me in from the very first page and held me captive right up until the very last, where Aleatha, once again, left me dangling precariously off her requisite heart-pounding cliff!

If you are already a fan of Aleatha Romig’s books as I am, or if you are discovering her for the very first time, “Ruthless Reign” is one book that should definitely be added to the top of your TBR list!!

This is a story reminiscent of some of the episodes of the Crown, the only difference is the Queen is referred to as Mom and the British royals are required to use mummy. They are the Firm though and the intrigue, secrets, and machinations are very similar. Oliver and Lucille shouldn’t be together but they have an immediate connection and what a connection it is and Lucille deserves someone in her corner. There are twists and turns and secrets galore and the twist at the end is gob smacking and will make you reevaluate everything you were thinking.

I was hooked from the first chapter as usual with an Aleatha Romig book.
I absolutely love the plot to this, Oliver being hired to stand in for a Prince and of course he falls in love with the Princess. When Lucille realizes he’s not Roman but is drawn to him more than she is to her husband, I love it.
When they discover secrets within the Royal family, it’s so intriguing.
And the cliffhanger had me wide eyed. Can’t wait for the next book.

Aleatha does it again!!! 5++++++ Stars!!

Just when I think I can guess what Aleatha is going to bring us – she does nothing like I expect!!

Ruthless Reign is the start of Aleatha's newest series and it's definitely unlike anything I have read before.

Aleatha is known for her twists and suspense in her books, but now we add in secrets and who's loyal to whom and who's a traitor amongst them all.

Added amongst that suspense is one of the most passionate and extreme slow-burn romances I've ever read and that just adds to appeal and intrigue of this book.

Princess Lucille and Roman Godfrey's marriage is one that has two very different sides. Roman isn't who the people think he is and only Lucille knows the real him. When Oliver enters the picture, he adds another layer to this intriguing story and creating a very complicated relationship between him and Lucille.

Ruthless Reign was so unexpected and I loved every bit of this story. I read this book in hours; I could not put it down once I started it. And that ending!!

Definitely pick this one up and see why we all love Aleatha and her phenomenal books.

This is one of those books that will hook you from the very first page. The intrigue and suspense of the story will have you glued to every word. Lucille and Roman/Oliver are pawns in this game of life but can they survive?
This author has a way of wielding a pen into a story that you will think you are there and part of the plot. Guessing what will happen next is not an option because you will be guessing wrong. Aleatha Romig will have you so engrossed in the story that you will not know it is over until the last word.
This is a fantastic beginning to a new series that will leave you wanting more. Ruthless Reign is a little different from this author's dark romances or lighter sides, but it is not something to miss.
I can not wait to see what happens next with Lucille, Roman/Oliver.

This story had me hooked. It was hard to put down at times. I was completely sucked into the world. There are twists and turns from start to finish.

Lucille is married to Roman, however, their relationship is far from good. There is a coldness to their relationship. However, Roman isn’t fit to handle things at the moment. Enter Oliver. He and Roman share a resemblance and he can stand in for him at events.

Lucille and Oliver have a connection, however, they shouldn’t. Anything besides pretending is completely off limits. However, they fight their chemistry so much a long the way but eventually things give in and the sparks fly.

This does end on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see how things end!

If you’re looking for a forbidden, royal, romantic suspense this is one to check out.

One of his jobs as the Prince is to smooth over political relationships that are weak and calm the fears of those who don't think he is fit for the job of King. The one person he hasn't been able to fool is Princess Lucille. She knows something is off. The two soon dilve into a world of lies, deceit, and manipulation as the find the world in which they are currently living is nothing as it seems.

5 Aleatha’d Stars

The moment I read REIGN and ALEATHA ROMIG on the same cover, I said: I NEED TO READ IT RIGHT NOW!! And oh boy, how right I was about that feeling.

RUTHLESS REIGN is fantastic. It has everything I love in a book: An great plot, plot twist after plot twist, an amazing development of characters, not only the main ones but also the secondary ones, an increasing sexual tension within the story, and within the interactions of the characters and the royal theme! Oh, how I love a royal story.

I don't want to tell anything about the story, there’s enough information in the blurb to know enough about it, but I will say this: Get ready to be Aleatha’d by the end of this book. The cliffhanger is HUGE!! But so worth it.

I highly recommend RUTHLESS REIGN.

This Royal Series is something different for Aleatha to tackle but she nailed it! With her awesome writing skills, I was ensnared from the first paragraph right up to where I was hanging off the cliff's edge!

Lucille and Roman, the Prince and Princess, lead a complicated life. Along with the unrest in their country, their marriage is also strained and Lucille often feels like a prisoner under all the rules, alone. All that begins to change as this story twists and curls like a pretzel, pulling you down the rabbit hole! There is no back door in this rabbit hole and just when you think you might (might, I say, cause you haven't) figure things out, the bottom falls out with the Shock of all Shocks! This, my friends, is what we call being "Aleatha'd" and no one does it better! Give me Book 2 NOW!

Ms. Romig has done it again-she knocked this book out of the park! It was everything I thought it was going to be, but it also was so much more than what I was expecting.

Ruthless Reign is the first book in the Royal Reflections series and it was totally unputdownable. From the very first page to the last, I was completely immersed in this fictional world that Ms. Romig created. Full of emotions, deceit, and never knowing who to trust, Lucille is pretty much on her own. Marrying a prince was supposed to be a fairytale…too bad that is not what she’s living.

I loved this book soooo much! Honestly every single aspect of it was pure perfection. I cannot wait to read book two!

OMG amazing, so good! I can’t wait for book 2! This is a slow burn, royal elites, contemporary romance. It follows Princess Lucille and Prince Roman five years into their marriage in the country of Molave. This first book in the series has the makings for a perfect Hallmark movie with a bit of spicy-ness. The characters are interesting and intriguing and their story takes the reader to lands and peoples far away. I could close my eyes and envisage the castles and surrounding countrysides in my mind. The journey between Roman/Oliver and Lucille is a very very slo-burn situation that continuously builds the fire between them ever so slowly. But the heat is vey intense….. searing hot flames of desire. This book takes me back to provincial times when the intensity between the looks on faces said it all for them. Glances from across the table or room was all that was needed in those circumstances. Aleatha never fails to give us those unexpected twists and turns and this first book is no different. Expect the unexpected when reading her books.

Have you been ALEATHA’D, I have been! Roman/Oliver and Lucille's relationship as King to be and Princess for sure is Ruthless. Lucille notices right away her husband Roman is not the same. He's changed and she's starting to feel like when they were first married. But there are to many hints that he may not be who anyone thinks he is. She can't turn off the pull she feels when he's around. Their duties to Molave as their royalty is important but their hearts keep pulling them closer.

“You are beautiful. Your heart is even more beautiful.”

OH MY WOW!!! Aleatha Romig has crafted another gem in her repertoire of novels. Ruthless Reign lives up to its title with stirring suspense, stolen steamy moments, complexly drawn characters and tantalizing twists and turns. This is a royal romance unlike you’ve ever read before. I couldn’t put this delicious delight down.

Dearest readers, I cannot and will not divulge much about the plot because you must unwrap the presents throughout this bewitching tale. Just know that this is not your typical royal romance. Prepare to fall for a princess whose love story is unexpected and a prince of many … shall we say layers. I was completely captivated by Lucille and Roman’s romance—my heart pounding and mind racing as I lived and breathed this book.

Ruthless Reign is a riveting and remarkably told romance that intoxicates at every turn! My heart and mind were racing as I lived and breathed this book. I can’t wait to follow the prince and princess on their next adventure … one that may rival Hollywood. Oh did I love being swept away by this fairytale with a twist.

I have been a HUGE fan of ALEATHA ROMIG's for a while now so it's no surprise that I absolutely loved this book but what did surprise me was the ending, no not that it was a cliffhanger because I call her the QUEEN OF CLIFFHANGERS but just what happened at the end! My mind is still reeling and I am on a constant replay of what the frigitty frack just happened?

There is so much going on in this book, lies, secrecy, deception, and so many twists and turns that lead us up to the bombshell that was dropped at the ending. I have to say that I loved Lucille the American born woman who is now the Princess of Molave, her husband Roman leaves a lot to be desired, but Sir Oliver fits his role perfectly and I love the chemistry and slow burn between him and the princess.

I know cheating is a big thing for many readers and yes there is cheating in this book, BUT and this is a big BUT I do not see this as cheating because the marriage between the princess and the prince was not only abusive there are other things in play that make this a non sequitur. That may not make sense now but it will once you read the story.

I would recommend this book to fans of Aleatha Romig, those that enjoy Romantic Suspense, or those that enjoy Royalty Romances.

Happy Reading!!!
