From bestselling, beloved author Matt Stanton comes The Run, Odds, Run , the second graphic novel in the hilarious, heart-filled three-book middle grade series about what happens when your imagination comes to life. A woman in a fancy suit has shown up unexpectedly and unannounced at Kip’s apartment, and she's asking questions Kip doesn’t want to answer about all odd characters who’ve escaped her imagination. The Odds have no choice but to go on the run! But running away isn’t as simple as should be—not when Lance the rabbit and Ninja-Nina are dueling, Racer’s trying to drive everywhere but straight ahead, Booster the rooster wants to leave, and Unicorn and the family cat just can’t seem to get along. Kip is hiding secrets from her dad, Diana the dinosaur keeps scaring Kip, and the Woman in the Suit seems to know their every move. It’s a hilarious and touching graphic novel from all-star author Matt Stanton about finding friendships and the challenges of growing up.
Matt Stanton is a bestselling children's author and illustrator, with over a quarter of a million books in print. He is the co-creator of seven bestselling picture books, including the mega-hits, There is a Monster Under My Bed Who Farts and This is a Ball. He is launching his much-anticipated middle-grade series, Funny Kid around the world in July 2017.
Both my daughter and I thought this kinda dragged and hit a sophomore slump. The “odd couple” vibe has gotten old, so Stanton throws in a “road trip” vibe while our protagonists and cartoons run from a mysterious woman. Why? I don’t know. Who is she? Well, you’d think we’d know after 200 pages. But nope, cliff hanger. Meanwhile everyone bickers and is somehow incredibly boring. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the father, a cartoonist, is unable to come up ideas for his comic… Guess it’s time for something new, indeed.
I'm on a kids graphic novel kick apparently. This is the second in a series and I have not yet read the first one. But it's cute, fun, and I like that it addresses different emotions and personality traits.
Just as good as the first! Great message about accepting all the parts of yourself. What an interesting way to get the message across! I can't wait for the conclusion to this trilogy.
Every page is a delight. The Odds have gone crazy; Kip and her Dad are overwhelmed. This is a great book to help any young child gain self-insight into emotions and personality. Very clever, and funny!
