After the heartbreak of a secret unrequited love, Millie Treadaway has finally found someone to spend her life with.
Harry Rose is handsome, successful and treats her like a princess. That is until Millie presents her fiancé with a surprise birthday gift, and their future is suddenly doomed.
Eight months later Millie returns to Glentorrin on the Isle of Skye for her best friend Jules' Christmas wedding. Heartbroken, single and heavily pregnant.
Staying in Lifeboat Cottage with Jules' brother, kindhearted Dexter, she's given up on love and resigned herself to be the best single Mum ever. But a shock phone call from Harry leaves her reeling and doubting herself and her decisions.
Do second chances work? Or is Dexter, right? That she deserves much more?
Can the festive spirit in Glentorrin, and a little stray Jack Russell terrier, heal her heart? Or is she fated to remain a member of the lonely-hearts club forever?
I have enjoyed the few books I have read from Hobman, set on the beautiful Island of Skye. I don’t think you need to have read the other stories in the series, as I certainly haven’t, to really appreciate this lovely romantic, festive story, that left me feeling warm and cosy… and wishing for bucket-loads of snow!
There were several emotional scenes in this book that nearly brought a tear to my eye. They were so heartfelt and full of emotion and I think they really show-cased Hobman’s writing style. It just made the book more enjoyable read as I watched Millie and Dexter’s relationship swing from friends to possibly more. Throughout, I was wondering ‘will they? Won’t they?’ and I could not predict how Hobman would provide readers with a necessary happy ever after. With Harry’s presence continually felt, Millie’s pregnant emotions are all over the place and cannot help but feel the pull back to his security. Even though it is clear he is not the right match, Millie is not confident that her best friend, Dexter, feels the same as her, making Harry an even more appealing prospect.
Of course, it is not just about romance for Millie. Carrying Harry’s child, she is very aware of the importance of creating a family for her unborn child. I appreciated how Hobman portrayed this dilemma and the guilt Millie feels about not being with Harry because he is the biological father. On the other hand, she recognises how she has so much support around her and I liked how her friends encouraged her to make the right decision.
This was a great example of a Christmas story with plenty of festive feels and snow. It had all the ingredients of a comforting read and I loved all of the characters, especially as previous favourites make a return to the story. There is always a warming community vibe in this series and Hobman continues to emphasise this with Jule’s wedding. Although Christmas is still a few months away, it was such a pleasant story to read that I think I appreciated the goodness of the novel even more.
I have always enjoyed Hobman’s stories and this should continue to delight her fans – me included! I wonder if there will be another novel to come that is set in Skye, but whatever Hobman writes next, I will be sure to visit it.
With thanks to Boldwood books and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'm new to this author's books and she has become one of my go-to authors after only three books. Lisa Hobman has excelled herself with this book, it is a heartwarming, captivating read that took me on an emotional rollercoaster that I didn't want to get off! Our main protagonist Millie goes to Glentorrin for the wedding of her best friend Juliette and it couldn't have come at a better time for her really as she finds herself needing her friend more than ever after unexpected events turn sour for her. Juliette's brother, Dex (Dexter) has to be one, if not 'thee' nicest and best character ever created in fiction. I loved his easy going nature, his kindness that brought me to tears quite a few times, and I was pleased that he played a big part in the story. I love Glentorrin and could just picture the scenery and at Christmastime it was the perfect backdrop to the story. I found it sad in parts, it's believable and there's a topic that holds so much meaning. Why settle for less in our lives? And, we shouldn't make decisions to please others. I adored Nigel, a little cutie, so clever and he just melted my heart! Glentorrin is a close-knit community, loyal and protective of its inhabitants and it was lovely to see other locals play out and see how their character's have developed. With surprises - some wanted, and others not - this is a wonderful story that had me on edge at times and I shed some tears as it brought out so many emotions. I found it an absolute pleasure that was well worth my time. A must-read!

My Thoughts: The story is narrated by Millie, in her perspective. This was such a cute winter read that I loved reading. I have not read anything my Lisa Hobman yet but she will always be on my TBR radar. This is set in the dead of winter during Christmas time and you deeply felt all of the festive emotions that go along with the Holidays. I absolutely adored Millie and really disliked Harry and could not believe his attitude, I will leave at that to not give anything away. The characters were well developed with depth, emotion, creative, connective, and uniquely written. The author’s writing style was complex, heartwarming, swoony, and kept me captivated from cover to cover. This was the perfect romance book that starts with building of the characters with their backstories, then the plot in its romantic ties and slight twists, then when everything comes together for a happy ending, it just makes the kickoff to the holiday book season very sweet. This book releases later this month and I would recommend that you preorder.
This is my sixth book by Lisa Hobman and I've loved all of them. That's basically why I keep looking out for her new releases and read them avidly. Together Under a Snowy Skye made no exception, with the pluses of going back to Glentorrin and the Christmassy atmosphere. As with the other instalments of the series, this, as well, can be read as a stand-alone, but beware, you won't resist going back and read the previous ones as they're so lovely and enjoyable!
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC.
Millie has it her own business, a beautiful home and a loving boyfriend but when an unplanned pregnancy tears her life apart she travels to the Isle of Skye for her best friends Christmas wedding.
Can an old friend become something more and can Millie find her happily ever after??
A cosy sweet romance to get you in the festive mood
I liked Millie a lot but the real star of this friends to lovers story is Dexter. Gorgeous, kind and loyal he’s my ideal man. The settings were lovely and beautifully framed the story.
Every now and then, an author gets everything absolutely right – this was one of those times, and I loved this book from its very beginning as Millie couldn’t contain her delight at sharing the news that she was expecting a baby, only to find that fiancé Harry (goodness, what an awful man!) doesn’t feel quite the same way. So, eight months later, she travels alone to Skye in the run-up to Christmas – and heavily pregnant – to attend the wedding of best friend Jules, and we find ourselves back in the warm and wonderful community of Glentorrin. If you haven’t visited before, it won’t matter a jot – but if you have, it’s particularly lovely to be able to catch up with everyone’s lives.
Millie stays with Dex, Jules’ brother – they’ve been friends (and nothing more, although she might have liked it to be otherwise) for a very long time, and he really is the loveliest big bear of a man, wonderful company, gentle and caring, navigating his own world of new relationships as he settles into his new life on the island. At first, not a lot happens – it’s all about establishing the relationship between Millie and Dex, the frisson between them, and getting to know the other locals who play their part in the story. And about the arrival of Nigel – no, not the new baby, but a gorgeous homeless Jack Russell (with such a sad little story of his own) who’s firmly decided that he’s found his new family. But everything begins to become difficult when Harry – after a long silence – gets in touch with Milly, with an apparent change of heart. And, as Dex seems destined to be nothing more than a good friend – although his newest relationship does ring a few alarm bells – and Harry appears with a ring and plans for the future, she becomes convinced that she should give their relationship a second chance.
This book really had everything I could have possibly wanted – the Christmassy feel and the preparations for the wedding, the lovely friendships, plenty of drama, and a romance I really believed in and wanted to happen but that looked increasingly impossible as the story unfolded. As for the book’s ending – well, I don’t think it could have been much more perfect. A touch predictable maybe? Who cares – it was everything I wanted, and left me with a tear in my eye and a smile on my face, and you really can’t ask for much more than that. The writing really is excellent, and the whole story’s so beautifully told – such well drawn and engaging characters, the perfect setting, plenty of lightness and loads of warmth, touches of humour, and a real depth to the emotional content. Very highly recommended – I loved this one.
Together Under a Snowy Skye made my heart flutter! This a captivating romance, featuring two very endearing characters, Millie and Dex! I haven’t read the other books in this series, and it’s a great standalone—but now I want to go read them all!
I really enjoyed the amount of close friendships, family that isn't necessarily by blood, the loyalty and love between the characters on all levels. This doesn't just focus on the romance, but also on the lifes of the people around the main characters, and their ups and downs.
I loved having a pregnant woman in the spotlight, and the pregnancy not being all bliss and fireworks. It covers way more. From swollen feet to feeling like a tent, from anxiousness about the future, but also the utter love and anticipation of new life. I thought the topic was very well handled, with her friends standing behind her, whatever decision she will make. The story is open to finding the right solution for this specific case.
Another big plus for me was the attraction between the main characters not coming from "He is so hot", but from knowing each other so well for so long. From the beauty of who they are, not liking each other just for the perfect muscular body.
I had a few eye roll moments at the sheet account of money some of the characters have, I mean why not just buy your partner a museum. Or take a cottage off the market for a friend. Crazy riches or celebrity characters have always been a bit of a pet peeve of mine. It makes it all feel more shallow instead of adding anything, at least for me.
Other than that a great Christmas book, including a new furry best friend, a lot of love and all the Christmas spirit one could wish for.
Millie and Harry have been together for a while and on his 36th birthday she hands him a box with the pregnancy stick that says she’s pregnant! When he makes it clear that he doesn’t want a baby and tells her he doesn’t feel ready to be a dad she Scoff’s at this, but acquiesces when she goes to the doctor to terminate the pregnancy she finds out she has ovarian sis and that it’s pretty much a miracle she got pregnant to begin with. Would you tell Terry he gives her the ultimatum me or the baby despite this could be the only chance she has to be a mother. He is confident she will pick him, but she doesn’t an 8 1/2 months pregnant she goes to Scotland on the island of sky to attend her best friend Julius wedding. They give her a cottage of her own and tell her she can stay as long as she likes to put the cherry on top the cake her old friend decks is there and not only does he become a great support to her but she secretly falls for him. When she finds out he’s been seeing Ennis a girl on the island she doesn’t let her feelings be known. After all that said he doesn’t want to get married right? This was such a great book I loved it! If you love sweet romances with puppies you need to read this book! I absolutely adore this book! They have such great characters an awesome plot it’s just awesome! I was given this book by not Galli in the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are definitely my own.
A simple feel good story about a woman who at 36 finds herself pregnant with a younger partner who does not want a child. After finding out that due to health issues she is actually very lucky to have become pregnant she decides to keep her baby. She leaves her partner and moves to a quieter place where she can still work. On a week at a friend’s wedding she becomes reacquainted with her best friend’s brother and from there the slow burning and very clean love story takes off. Majority takes place in London and Isle of Skye. The 2nd in a series can easily be read out of order. I was happy to see characters Juliette, Reid and Evin make appearances. I listened to it and the narrator was ok - a bit of a baby voice.
Loved it! Nice to be back in Glentorrin, on the Isle of Skye this time with Millie's story. Of course the whole gang is back but "Together Under a Snowy Skye" is about Millie and her life.
Millie is in Glentorrin for the wedding of her best friend Jules. Millie needs her best friend right now being that she is pregnant and her boyfriend back in London wants nothing to do with the baby. Millie finds that being in Glentorrin is good for her well being.
This is my third book by Lisa Hobman and I find myself enjoying each book. The author has a way of keeping your interest and next thing you know the book is done. I can't wait for her next book in the series (at least I hope there will be a next book) because I really love the way the author writes a clean, wholesome book.
I highly recommend this book and check out her other Isle of Skye books. You won't be disappointed!
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood books for an advanced digital copy for an honest review. These are my words and my words only
A quick read with a predictable ending. Lovely descriptions of Skye and the community the writer created for there. My favourite character was Nigel the dog…Escapism and happy ever afters- just what is needed sometimes.
Oh wow, what a book!!!!! This one is so so good, so intense, such a page-turner! This book is about Millie who is heavily pregnant and single. The father of the baby has decided that he didn't want to have anything to do with the baby. Millie is spending the last weeks of her pregnancy with her best friends. She is staying at the place of her male best friend and suddenly she is questionning her friendship with him. Could there be more than friendship between them? Oh this is such a sweet story! I loved it so so much! One of the main male character Dexter is to die for! I would love to have a partner like him!!! Girls, if you are looking for a sweet, yet intense story, this is the book you should read! I gave it 5 stars! It deserves even more!!!
Yet another adorable trip to Skye! And another gorgeous book boyfriend to add to my growing collection with the awesome Dexter! A riveting story that instantly caught my attention, the connection between Millie and Dexter was so wonderful and it really warmed my heart to see them reconnect once more. Always such a lovely community to visit, catching up with characters from previous books and especially great to attend a Christmas wedding too! A super cute dog added to the mix made this a perfect read! Already looking forward to the next book!
I have been a fan of Lisa's work for a while now. I have read and loved each and every one of her books. I love the way in which she writes such entertaining and uplifting stories. I read the synopsis for 'Together Under A Snowy Skye' and it certainly sounded like another cracker of a read from Lisa. I couldn't wait to start reading and so without further ado I grabbed my Kindle, grabbed a cup of tea and settled down for a fun afternoon of reading. I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Together Under A Snowy Skye' but more about that in a bit.
I absolutely adored the character of Millie Treadaway. It didn't take me long to warm to her and I ended up feeling as though she had become a friend of mine, which meant that I felt all protective of her. When the story begins, Millie is in a relationship with Harry and to be blunt he is punching way above his weight. I won't go too far into detail as to what happens but needless to say that his attitude stank and I was all set to chase him down the street to whack him with a wet flip flop or a wet flannel a few dozen times. Millie ends up being supported by her friends and loved ones as she looks forward to motherhood, only for Harry to turn up like the proverbial bad penny. Millie is fun, feisty, determined, compassionate, sensitive and everything that you could wish for in a friend. What will Millie decide to do? Well for the answer to that question and so much more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out as I am not going to tell you.
As with all of Lisa's books, I was drawn into this story from the start. As soon as I started reading I knew that I was going to become addicted to reading the story and that I would find it nigh on impossible to put the book down for any length of time. I was right on both counts. I had initially picked the book up only intending to read a chapter or two, but I took to Millie so well and I became so wrapped up in the story that I was still sat there reading several chapters and an hour or so later. I found any excuse that I could to avoid having to put the book down and even when I did put it down, I would immediately look forward to being able to pick the book up again. I was so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the story. All too quickly I reached the end of 'Together Under A Snowy Skye' and I had to say goodbye to Millie and the rest of the characters, although I have to say that I wasn't sad to leave Harry behind. I found 'Together Under A Snowy Skye' to be a lovely and warm hearted read, which certainly kept my attention throughout.
'Together Under A Snowy Skye' is superbly written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Lisa Hobman. Lisa has one of those easy going writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact reading one of Lisa's books feels more like a chat between friends rather than reading an actual book. I hope that makes sense. I love the very vivid and realistic way in which Lisa describes her characters. She makes them seem just as real as you and I. I always find that the sign of a good book is when I find myself becoming far too involved in the story to the extent that I 'live' the story as if it were real and 'talk' to the characters as if they can hear me. As you may have gathered, this is what happened with 'Together Under A Snowy Skye' especially wanting to jump inside the pages of the book to give Harry a good talking to among other things. I love the way in which the author makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action. That's how I felt at any rate. This was one of those books which made me smile, made me laugh and occasionally made me well up.
In short, I thoroughly adored reading 'Together Under A Snowy Skye' and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Lisa's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.
Is there a better place to mend your broken than Glentorrin? Millie Treadaway has the perfect birthday present for her fiancé Harry. Because Harry does not only have the looks, he is also successful and treats her like a princess. So could there be anything more perfect than having a child together, even if it was not planned? Millie is happy to be pregnant, but is shocked with Harry’s reaction. Eight months later, Millie is going back to Glentorrin for her best friend Jules’ Christmas wedding, as a single and heavily pregnant woman. She knows that being a single Mum won’t be easy, but she already loves her baby so much and will be the best possible Mum. Staying with Jules’ brother Dexter at Lifeboat Cottage, she sees how loving and wonderful not only Dexter is, but the whole community of Glentorrin is. But when Harry contact her again, after long months of silence, Millie must decide where her future is… Should she give Harry and their child a chance of being a family? Or do Millie and the baby deserve more, even if that means being a family of just two? Yes, this book is part of a series. Yes, it can perfectly be read as a standalone. Yes, you should ABSOLUTELY read it even if you haven’t read the previous before (and while you’re at it, read the previous parts!!!). Yes, I have falling completely in love all over again with all the characters of Glentorrin! And yes, I cried while reading it! Before I read any of this author’s books, I hadn’t heard of Glentorrin before. But there are only a few places I got to know from books that I would just love to live there myself, and Glentorrin, with their lovely, amazing inhabitants, surely made the short – list! From the start, I truly liked Millie. She doesn’t have a very close family, but with meeting Jules at the University, she did not only find a best friend, but also a family who welcomed her with open arms. But what made me love Millie, is how she stood up for herself and the baby when Harry made his own thoughts clear. The moment Millie discovers her pregnancy, she is over the moon, and loves the baby immediately. She protects it (yes, I know, calling the baby “it” is terrible, but I don’t want to give away if it’s a boy or a girl, so bear with me…) unconditionally, and is determined to have it, even if that means to do it as a single mother. I can only be in awe of Millie’s courage. I am not a mother myself, but I know that having a baby is yes, very rewarding, but can sometimes also be a challenge. So reading about Millie’s determination made me like her even more than before! Glentorrin shows again what a magnificent place it is to live. Even if Millie is only planning to stay short-term, everyone welcomes her, helps her with (small) gestures, and Millie never felt more at home. Obviously it helps that she has Dexter by her side. Jules’ brother is the kind of man every woman can fall in love with. He not only opens his home for Millie, but he looks after her, cares about her and makes Millie understand that she deserves all the happiness in the world, Harry included or not. I always like it when friendships stand not only the test of time, but also the test of distance. Millie and Jules would do anything for each other, and they know they can always rely on each other, no matter what. The support Millie can count on, truly warmed my heart. True friends understand when help is needed, and offer it unconditionally. The thing that got me the most, is the dilemma Millie is facing. That may sound like a strange thing to say, but while Millie knows that Harry is not the man she thought he was, she doesn’t want to take the father away from her unborn child. She wants to do the right thing for her little one, even if that would mean heartbreak for her. This was a wonderful, marvellous, superb story, showing the strength of a mother, but also the doubts. With a child in your life, nothing will ever be the same again, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing, even if *someone who we truly despise* does think so… It shows us also love in all its aspects, between friends, own chosen family, long lost loves, new loves, love for just who we are, and everlasting love. And even the love of/for animals. Because let me tell you, if Nigel won’t steal you heart, there is something definitely wrong with you! With this book, Lisa Hobman again met my extremely high expectations, surpassed them easily and made me fall in love all over again. And yes, even if the epilogue seemed a tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiny bit over the top, I still loved it how it all got together and gave the more perfect than perfect ending of an amazing story!
Together Under a Snowy Skye is the perfect Christmas book to read this holiday season.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I love it when Christmas ARCs start coming our way because it means that fall and the holiday season are just around the corner. All I have to say is that my first Christmas book of the year charmed my snowman socks right off my feet. It was just utter holiday perfection. The pacing and flow of this story are similar to Hallmark-style movies. There is just the right amount of relationship drama, quirky townsfolk, and a fabulous wedding to keep readers entertained.
Fans of Lisa’s other books will be happy to hear that there are plenty of cameos from characters from her previous books. These characters, plus a cast of new ones, create an endearing, fun ensemble that fits perfectly with the story. Millie is sweet and just so relatable. Reader’s hearts will go out to Millie as she struggles with the decision to keep or abort her baby. I felt that Lisa did a fantastic job at addressing the issue of abortion. She showed readers how difficult it is for women who have to make that decision. I also loved that this topic didn’t consume the whole story. Once Millie decided to keep her baby, that was it, and the story moved on.
One of the reasons why I love romances so much is because of the amazing friendships that exist within their stories. Millie has two fabulous best friends, Jules and Dexter. The interactions between these friends are heartwarming and full of understanding, laughter, and the knowledge that they have each other’s backs. Their friendship felt like they have an unshakable foundation.
The romance in this book is like a lopsided square, LOL. I shall explain what I mean: Millie has two love interests in this story. At the story’s beginning, Millie and Harry are engaged, but they split up because Harry doesn’t want to keep the baby. After their breakup, we don’t hear from Harry until near the end of the book. Dexter, who is the other love interest, lives in Scotland and has been one of Millie’s closest friends since uni. Both characters have a secret crush on each other but are too afraid to say anything because they don’t want to wreck their friendship. These two are adorable, and Dexter is the sweetest boyfriend ever. The other love interest in this square is Isla, who has a crush on Dexter, and they kind of start dating in this story. But Dexter is not really into Isla. With all these different love interests floating around in this book, you’d think that the story would be muddled with relationships. But it isn’t. Lisa did a great job just putting enough drama in the plot to keep it interesting and help move the story along.
Together Under a Snowy Skye is an enchanting Christmas love story.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is another instalment in Lisa’s fabulous series set in the fictional village of Glentorrin, on the Isle of Skye. As there have already been a few books in this series, it’s always nice to catch up with the fantastic residents and see what they are getting up to. I must admit that I felt that this series has now come full circle, as the story brings us back to Jules and Reid, who we met in the first book. We also catch up with Jules’ brother, Dexter. He’s a lovable bear of a man who shows nothing but kindness and seems to shy away from romantic connections. I felt every ounce of Millie’s heartbreak as Harry Rose treated her with such contempt after she revealed the news that she thought would have made him ecstatically happy. The story then follows Millie as she adjusts to her new life and we learn the depth of the relationship Millie shares with her best friend, Jules. Despite her heartbreak and almost full-term pregnancy, Millie returns to Glentorrin so that she can attend Jules’ marriage to Reid and renew her friendship with Dexter. It’s in this magical village that Millie feels able to look to the future, until Harry appears, offering her everything she ever wanted. Once again, I found myself transported to Skye and feeling a genuine warmth from catching up with the characters that I have grown to love. Even a special nod went out to Greg, who still doesn’t appreciate people singing along. He is a legacy character, who crosses over from a previous series. It’s this attention to detail that contributes to the warmth of Lisa’s stories. Millie is a terrific character, and her past was presented with such a gentle hand, it was impossible not to feel real affection for her. I make no secret of having loved Dexter from when he was first introduced to Glentorrin, and it was wonderful to see him finally taking the lead. Despite Millie’s desperate situation and definite emotional conflict, there is still a lightness to this story. An uplifting sensation which comes from a perfectly constructed ending which ticked all the right boxes. I cannot recommend this book and the whole series enough. I’m hoping that it’s not my last trip to Glentorrin, but if it is, I’m already looking forward to my next adventure.
I picked up this book almost by accident—like it somehow found its way to me. I walked into the bookshop with a completely different book in mind, but then I saw the cover. I know they say not to judge a book by its cover, but I couldn’t resist. And when I read the description on the back? I had to get it. I haven’t regretted it for a second!
The storyline hooked me so completely that, even with my busy med school schedule, I finished it in two days. It’s absolutely captivating, with stunning descriptions of scenery, landscapes, and atmospheres. Everything is so vividly detailed that imagining the settings and events felt effortless. And the characters—oh my God, the characters! I genuinely wished I could be friends with all of them. Each one is so wonderful in their own way, and the way they care for each other as friends and lovers? It’s amazing.
The Christmas spirit in this book is magical—snowy landscapes, the warm smells of cinnamon and chocolate, and the laughter and love shared by all the characters. It’s the perfect winter read, especially for a gloomy, snowy day when you just want to cozy up under a blanket. I couldn’t put it down, even when I knew I had a pile of studying waiting for me 🥲. My attention was completely glued to the pages, constantly anticipating what would happen next. Even though it’s a lighthearted read, it’s packed with events that keep you on your toes. I found myself cursing out loud, screaming at the pages, laughing, and crying—both happy and sad tears. But one thing is for sure: my smile didn’t leave my face the entire time. I was grinning like an idiot from start to finish.
Despite the emotional rollercoaster of events, I’m so happy with how everything turned out in the end. Seriously, the characters are to die for, and I promise you’ll fall in love with every single one of them. I can’t recommend this book enough—it absolutely deserves more attention and love! ❤️
Lisa Hobman's village of Glentorrin, on the Isle of Skye, has become one of my favorite places to visit. She's created a warm, welcoming atmosphere in this close-knit village with characters I want to be friends with. Her books are so immersive that I can easily visualize myself strolling the streets, popping into the shops, and chatting over tea and biscuits with locals. I love that with each new book I get to catch up with characters from earlier books while meeting new ones who excel in capturing a place for themselves in my affections.
Parts of Millie's journey in this book were heartbreaking and emotional but they were tempered by the humor, hope, and unconditional support she found in Glentorrin, especially from her best friend Jules and Jules' brother, Dexter. And, of course, Nigel (the dog). Can't forget about him!
As for Millie's journey of the heart, I was Team Dex all the way. What a sweet, kind, steadfast, wonderful man. I adored him and wanted Dex and Millie to adore each other. But life is messy and in true Hobman fashion, there are more than a few twists and turns - and other characters - who throw up obstacles along the way, not the least of which being Harry. It's a complex, and complicated, situation but, rest assured, everything works out the way it's meant to. Of course, you won't know which way that is until you read the book. ;-)
If you enjoy charming, heartfelt, romantic stories set in a cozy Scottish village with well-developed characters, relatable storylines, and well-earned happy endings, I recommend booking a (reading) trip to Glentorrin and Together Under a Snowy Skye. While there are earlier books in the series and continuing characters who appear in this one, readers new to the series should have no trouble beginning with Millie's story.

Millie Treadaway is happily engaged to be married and is thrilled to find out she is pregnant. When she shares her happy news with her fiancé, he does not react as she expected. Harry Rose does not want his life upended with a child, so to "fix the problem" expects her to "get rid of it". Millie refuses and packs up to head home to the small village where she spent time with her best friend while in college, Glentorrin on the Isle of Skye. With nowhere to stay, her BFF, Jules organizes for her to stay at Lifeboat Cottage with Jules' brother, kindhearted Dexter. Millie had a bit of a crush on Dexter when they were younger and those feelings are still there, buried. Millie begins to notice more and more about Dexter, especially how kind he is, and Dexter definitely has feelings for Millie. Will they finally realize how they feel about each other, or will Millie make the wrong decision?
I really loved the setting of this book. I have never been to the Isle of Skye, but it is on my list of places to go. The small town with its wonderful characters, and a cute jack russell that she rescues stole my heart. Being pregnant and with her relationship with Harry being what it is, Millie was an emotional mess. She kept changing her mind about what she wanted and was worried about what was "right" and not what would make her and her child happy. I enjoyed the way Lisa Hobman developed the relationship between Dexter and Millie and how Millie was finally able to grow a backbone and stand up for herself. Nigel, the rescue dog, was wonderful. I have heard about animals used to warn people about upcoming episodes and Nigel does a great job protecting Millie and her unborn child. Overall, this was a sweet Christmas story. There were festivities, friendships, character development and of course a wonderful happily ever after. One I recommend.

I loved Millie in Dreaming Under an Island Skye so I was so excited to have a book about her. She was such a great friend to Jules so I already went into this book wanting her to get her own happy ending. Harry was so awful it was hard to believe he ever had any qualities that would make someone like Millie fall in love with him. I'm glad that the book skips over most of her pregnancy and jumps ahead to closer to her due date. I felt that having her be farther from the breakup with Harry made it easier to believe she could move one with someone new. And who could be better for her than Dex? He's pretty much a perfect guy and I won't lie, I definitely had a bit of a crush on him myself. This would have been a much shorter book had Millie and Dex really talked to one another about their feelings rather than assuming the other wasn't interested. It was clear a lot of their "we're just friends and nothing more" was self-preservation. I liked how the author handled Millie's mixed emotions about Harry - she did really love him once and that shouldn't be something to be gotten past too quickly. That said, I did want to smack her toward the end when she caved and told Harry they could try again. Especially since she was ready to do that without just putting everything out there with Dex to see if he might feel the same way. But it all rights itself in the end and their big getting together scene was so sweet that I forgave her for her momentary stupidity. I also really liked getting to see Jules's and Reid's wedding - the part with Evin was so so sweet. This is a great book for the holiday season!

Oh I do love a new Lisa Hobman book, especially one set in Scotland and at Christmas time, it’s like it was written just for me.
I really enjoyed reading about Millie, she was a great protagonist, very human with flaws but she had a strength of character that I really liked. I need a Dex in my life, in a little cottage in Scotland, snow falling outside and the fire burning inside, wrapped up in his arms…..where was I? Oh yes, Lisa does paint the perfect picture. I also liked Harry too. Not that I liked him as a person - he’s delightfully deceitful and nasty - but I appreciated the character writing of him to make him believable. And the extended cast of characters felt like a real community, and I loved the addition of little Nigel, the Jack Russell as he reminded me of my Jack Russell.
I’ve read a few of Lisa Hobman’s books now, and whilst I enjoyed them all immensely, this became my favourite within the first few pages, but I can’t really explain why, which isn’t good for a book review. The was jut something embedded in the words, a heart and a soul embedded in the words that made this stand out for me.
Was the ending slightly predictable? Yes. Is this a bad thing? Absolutely not. Thats what I need, what I want from a romance book. I want that happily-ever-after feeling, that feeling of friendship and love and joy and warmth and positivity. It just makes you feel so happy that you can’t stop smiling as you read it. There is nothing less I would expect from one of her books, she’s become a go-to author for uplifting stories.

Blurb
My Opinion
Another lovely Lisa Hobman book even if it does get off to a bit of a risky start with some sensitive topics being mentioned (abortion, infertility). A heart-warming tale, with a second chance romance and a lot of community spirit. This is the first book I have read in this series but it worked well as a standalone novel.
A Christmas novel with a predictable ending - this is something I have now grown to expect and I think that this adds to the enjoyment. Lisa Hobman has written an uplifting book filled with positivity. Snow is falling in Scotland, and this will leave you warmth that only a nice festive book can bring.
Millie Treadaway has recently discovered that she is pregnant by her fiancé, Harry Rose. When she tells him, he is furious as he does not want children and demands that she have an abortion. They then break up because Millie realizes she has a medical condition which means this might be the only baby she can have.
With a month or so before delivery, Millie is heading to Scotland for the Christmas Eve wedding of her good friends, Jules and Reid. They have been very close since university days. She will be staying with Jules’s brother, Dexter, with whom she has been friends for years.
The snow in Scotland is heavy and Millie is enjoying her stay. Dexter is cooking good food for her and she finds herself sleeping a lot. But when she sees a small dog outside, she enlists Dexter to bring him inside. Turns out the owner passed away and the dog, Nigel, was loose without food or shelter. Now, Millie is insisting that they keep him.
Millie is enjoying being with her friends and is realizing how much she truly cares for Dexter and she always has. But, another young woman is pursuing him and confesses to Millie that she thinks she can change him. This really angers her because she thinks Dexter is perfect as he is. Yet, she is soon to be a single mother and has no say-so in his life as she will be returning home after the wedding. But, what if that’s not what fate has in store for her?
What a totally delightful, wholesome, warm story this is. It’s all about close family and friends. My first time reading this author’s books and I certainly look forward to more. Enjoy this one!
