Burning for You

Rate this book
Most fallen angels fell for Lucifer.

I fell to save the boy I was created to protect, trading my freedom—and my soul—for his life.

Sterling, the twisted and immortal alchemist who now owns me, is hellbent on using me as the power source to resurrect his murdered lover. My blood provides enough energy to fuel his dark arts, but as the years wane, he turns to more intimate means that are entirely foreign to me—and his touch ignites a fire within me I wasn't created to discover.

Now that he's nearly bled me down to the last drop and still hasn't succeeded in his blasphemous mission, I should despise him more than ever. And I do. But even though I know it means nothing to a straight man who still yearns for his wife's embrace, the carnal bond our bodies have forged has drawn something far more unforgiveable to the surface.

I'm beginning to fall for him.

Author's Note: This is a complete standalone MM Romance between a snarky fallen angel and a morally deficient sorcerer that features omegaverse dynamics (no mpreg), bi awakening, smoking hot demons, and extreme enemies-to-lovers dynamics.

time of death: 36%

i know it sounds ridiculous to write a review without finishing the book, but i just need to. i can’t believe it’s only 36% and the plot felt so long. where is this going? first, the enemies to lovers in this one is not my cuppa. this is another problem i have with this trope. i need hate sex, hatred thoughts, hatred feelings and loathe, more loathe. i mean the blurb really sold, but the demon was way too nice. at some point it felt one sided. Sterling, the demon, wasn’t much of a talker but the way he behaves towards Cael, despite him using Cael for power was just meh. Idk if it was just me but I couldn’t feel it. Cael’s hatred for Sterling was okay. The trauma bond makes a lot of sense - how Cael’s attracted to Sterling because of what they had, but yea i had a problem with Sterling. he’s a demon, so i’ve expected him to be growling all the time, grumpy, maybe angry and stupid. maybe that’s just his personality? but whatever. Sterling didn’t do it for me. i mean, the banter was fine but sometimes boring.

the storyline was okay, didn’t had that “grip” on me and it felt boring at certain times. i waited for something to happen between them but no, to say that i waited long- no, bcs i didnt even get to half of this story, but it felt really long. at some point something interesting happened and i was interested again, but the next chapter turned out to be boring again. it was just boredom all over. i hate to break it to you, but please don’t edge me with a good time. another one, the way the plot moves in the beginning, i don’t know what to feel about that. don’t know if i like it or just want more. because from Sterling can’t even get his dick hard for Cael to after a decade of him start having sex with Cael. yeah, where’s the story? maybe soon, but i just had to put a stop now.

but of course, can’t really judge a story when i just read almost half of it LOL also, i can’t deny THE COVER is stunning as hell.

This was a really enjoyable read. I liked the dynamic between the characters, as I really love hard energy and the enemies-to-lovers vibe that struck a little differently here. I adored the concept, and the idea of a tortured, fallen angel really intrigued me, and LOVED the way that intensity burned throughout the book.
I do have a couple of qualms with the story, in that Sterling was pretty awful to Cael throughout the book (which I dug at first, lol), but it was not just steamy sexual tension that hides a greater attraction. He had complete and utter indifference towards Cael. So, as a reader, I was waiting for some dramatic gesture on Sterling's part, for him to realize his mistake with his poor treatment of Cael and ultimately put in the effort to make it up to him, to put it lightly. Ultimately, that didn't happen. In fact, it is Cael that makes the dramatic gesture of running off to Sterling, and even Sterling's epiphany, when he realizes he actually cares for Cael, was super underwhelming. The entire fight scene made no sense, as their was no lead up to it, the reader wasn't expecting it, so I just didn't really care for it.
A good read, but not my favorite Abernathy read.
(I guess perhaps I'm a bit bitter that the author removed Bloodline, my fave, from Amazon! I don't think they will continue that series, which is a super bummer, as I was waiting on the edge of my seat for that one.)
If I'm hanging on for the author to release work as great as the series I very much enjoyed, then this wasn't it.
I'm super excited for the next Godbearer, so can't wait for that!

This year is just brimming with good books to read, my first from this author and what an experience it was!🔥

The cover drew me in but the story made me stay, it kept me at my Kindle despite how busy my day was.

I fell for Cael and was fascinated by Sterling. The contrast between them and their dynamic was so very different. This is not your usual angel/demon book, it was dark, there were so many twists and surprises. I love morally gray characters and the chance at redemmption in the end. It was worth every heartbreaking point in the story. The side characters took a life of their own, so compelling and gorgeous. I wish there was a side story for them, (Lucifer and Jay-the nephilim). I devoured this book, and I’m hungry for more. So glad Joel Abernathy has a lot of books to satisfy my cravings. All the ⭐️’s!

Obsession

Sterling certainly had his mind set to get his wife back no matter the consequences, he just didn't factor Cael wedging himself so completely into Sterling's life. Cael was no doormat, I loved how he fought back with Sterling with sass and attitude!! 😁 This book was very exciting and frustrating tio read but I loved it!

A solid 4.8 stars

I cried a lot while reading this. Mainly because it was really hard to read about Cael’s abuse while knowing he was in love with Sterling. The abuse just kept getting worse and the betrayal too. I was thankful that Cael became harder and sharper since his time with Sterling because I don’t think he would have made it through all those years.

It was interesting how closely their interactions seemed to D/s, especially Sadist and Masochist. It wasn’t true BDSM but it was very similar. Although Cael signed his soul away to Sterling, it had been his choice to fall and become his servant. And a part of him might have wanted to fall because of Sterling, not just to say his Boy. Cael himself stated he had admired Sterling through the years before he began to threaten the angels with their charges.

Cael seemed very much like a masochist but at times a bit sadistic when he began to find ways to emotionally hurt Sterling. As for Sterling, he was an absolute asshole and he was told as much several times. But I get his determination to finish what he started, even if it met betraying and hurting Cael.

The last few chapters were short but impactful. Each realized the truth behind their feelings. Cael deciding to take actions against harsh realities and accepting that his sacrifice for his boy has been an excuse to be with Sterling. And that if he was destroyed, he wanted to make sure Sterling was right their with him. On the other hand, Sterling let go of his past and moved forward so he could face Cael.

These last chapters were nice but I did want a bit more remorse from Sterling but he isn’t the type to beg or cry over his actions. He accepts that he has done irreversible damage to Cael and would accept any punishment Cael decides on. That’s the type of person he is. He doesn’t shy away from the fact that he had become a monster and would face divine retribution. In a way, his attitude makes him bearable because it meant he wasn’t trying to shy away from what he did or hide it in the name of being with Cael. He owned up to his actions and that made the ending between them pretty satisfying.

I know they will be happy until the end comes.

Well good grief. So… you have this dude, Sterling, who is so distraught by the loss of someone, he has come up with a plan to lure an Angel into his Angel-trap which will then ultimately allow him to get his special someone back to the land of the living. He then starts butchering and torturing others, throwing their viscera every which way until one Angel, Cael, falls for it. That particular celestial being, who has some major family-of-origin issues, ends up having to serve Sterling in every which way for hundreds of years.

All of the above is revealed in the first few paragraphs of the book and pretty much sets the stage for the actual storyline. Yep. Gross. Not many authors could pull this story off but of course Joel Abernathy, who exudes creativity and an ability to write well manages to do so.

When a story makes me uncomfortable, it’s usually because it is outside of my wheelhouse of what is and is not what I consider acceptable behavior which includes…and I hate this term…political correctness. So when that happens I remove myself from myself (?) and try to see the story from the perspective of the author. I discard my beliefs and values and just … go along for the ride with the author. I trust that author to give me a good and well-written story. Abernathy has never disappointed.

So, lots of drama, blood and guts (literally), more blood, anger, bitterness, betrayal, sexy times, more sexy times, and a general level of angst which remains throughout the book. Characters are fun…ok, not always fun…but most have at least a bit of snark. This includes a very nice Nephilim-witch, a priest, and Lucifer himself. And all of this PLUS a happily-ever-after. No, seriously. Now THAT is all most certainly worth a read.

This felt very much like a story of two different halves. Initially, Sterling was using Cael for his angel-powers, draining him in order to create the necessary spell to get his wife out of Purgatory. It was torture for Cael – not only had he fallen for a human who ultimately proved to be unworthy, but his feeling for Sterling were complicated.

Over the passage of time, Cael’s feelings for Sterling changed, as did he. He was weakening – dying – and his usefulness to Sterling was coming to an end. This was where I felt the book took a turn into a completely different territory, territory I wasn’t expecting but am very much here for. I think if I had read the blurb more fully, I wouldn’t have been as surprised by the shift but I’m actually glad that I didn’t because it enlivened things just as I was beginning to wonder how there could be so much of the story left.

We met Angels, Nephilim, relatives of Sterling’s – and Cael had given in to many human temptations, even as his feelings and need for Sterling remained a constant source of shame, shackles more solid than any contract. There was a change in Cael that could not have been expected, and a shift into a supernatural aspect that I wasn’t expecting and that felt a little incongruous. But it was handled so masterfully, with exposition given skilfully without going overboard.

The storytelling was engrossing – enough depth to immerse without overpowering – and I was happily along for the ride. So much so that I didn’t sleep all night and felt the need to write my review while it was all fresh in my mind.

Out of the cast of characters, I think my favourite was Jay, although Cael came a close second. There was something so vulnerable, so honest about him that even when he was feeling ashamed of himself, he was still a fighter. And his actions in the second half of the book were brilliant – I actually wanted to applaud him!

The writing was crisp, energetic and so different from anything I’ve read of Joel Abernathy’s before but I really enjoyed it. I know it says that it’s a stand-alone, but I would absolutely love to know Jay’s backstory! Very happy to give this 4.5/5 and round it up – an engrossing, entertaining read!

I received an ARC from GRR.

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review.  This one of the darker more emotional with the physical struggle of the fall landed Cael into the sorcerer path, all to save a soul. Joel has masterfully crafted a epic feeling with this one, the reader is in for an emotionally wrung out ride between Cael and Sterling. After all you have a mad man heck bent on bringing back his love, only to entrap a angel he is willing to use.  Can a reader  developed a form of Stockholm's by association?  Cael disobeyed order on interfering,  now his home was closed off, leaving him forsaken. Cael lays trapped at the hands of Sterling, mocking him as he uses him. Using an angelic body to fual the magic, Sterling dreams of achieving the power to bring back the dead. A trade is made leaving a destroyed hole in Cael's heart, was he to be used for more devilish purpose.  Even damned inside for the crimes Sterling is committing, It hurts time and again as Cael had glimpses of that beautifully brutal  soul.

No one does supernatural romance quite like Joel, and I couldn’t be happier about it!

The last time I was this enthralled by a book was reading “Bad blood” by Joel, I can say with certainty that any time there’s a supernatural book released, I’ll be ok of the first to get a copy!

Fast-paced, well written characters, an intensely interesting plot, I couldn’t put it down! (Any story with a morally grey character that’s redeemable has me hooked!) my only issues with the book (if it could be even considered, because they are really just my preferences) was that the beginning be a bit slower, such an incredible beginning to a story, even if we were skipping ahead to the good part, I would have loved to have seen more about how we got there! And all of those great side characters I feel have sooo much potential, I want more of Melvin, Lucifer, and Jay (ESPECIALLY Jay. Even more so if Lucifer is involved), but my guess is Joel has something up their sleeve for this universe and it’s characters!

I would've given this 4 stars if Sterling just didn't annoy me as much.

Tbh, the plot of the book is good. But reading this halfway through, I just thought "I'd be really cool if Sterling just became the bad guy and Cael learns to love someone else" but I already knew that wouldn't happen because of the blurb.

Idk, for me it was pointless how they make THE ANGEL give the final HEROIC sacrifice for them to be together. Idk, it was so... typical angel/demon thing and I kinda wanted a Redemption Arc. I know Sterling also sacrificed being with his wife, BUT CAEL LITERALLY COULD'VE DONE BIGGER AND BETTER THINGS AND BECOME A SLAVE.

Eh, I just wish the plot wasn't wasted like this. Again, it was an interesring take on mixing Alpha/Omega roles into the Angel/Devil trope. As I said, Cael could've done so much more if it wasn't for Sterling and it made me wish the author do something else like this in the future just to correct this missed opportunity.

The little "plot twist" with Lucifer was a bit... unsurprising. I didn't expect it, but it also wasn't a shock. Also, I get that Sterling needs to have a "deal with the devil" but couldn't the author wait spilling the beans until after Cael discovers it??? Like... let's not mention who Sterling met up with, and they use context clues to track him down, THEN we'd get that shock factor that "oh, this archangel was Lucifer all along?!".

Side note, when Jay arrived, I lowkey thought he'd kinda fight for Cael's affection. But nope, he just lets a rare and sacred being "be one with darkness" or some crap. Since he's nephilim he had more chance than Sterling, at least with how they're wired Cael would naturally be attracted to him. Obviously Cael would still choose Mr. Vengeance over there, bt at least he could've said he tried.

Idk, I've read some really great Joel Abernathy books so I expected this to be great, but I guess this is why we shouldn't get our hopes up. Again, not a bad book, just unsatisfactory, in my opinion.

Burning For You is a dark and somewhat psychological read. It was a unique read with great world building. The characters were well written with a fast-moving pace. I loved Cael from the beginning, he was brave and loyal, but I struggled with Sterling. His choices were terrible. Burning For You had some fantastic secondary characters that helped the story flourish. Overall, a great story, recommend.

might pick this up if it comes out in audio by a narrator I like. I just find it really, really strange the author is using the name Sterling again as a main character when Sterling is already a main character in the author’s Breaking Drake book. that’s…confusing.

I have been discovering that I really love Joel Abernathy and as this is my third book I have read of his. I really enjoy his writing style. This cover drew me right in as well. I am not always a huge fan of PNR but some authors just do it right and I can say that Joel is one of them.

The detail in this story was really amazing. I absolutely LOVED Cael, our fallen Angel. He is good and he has sacrificed so much. His Master, Sterling, was slightly harder to get on board with but I do believe this was how we were supposed to fall in love with him, painfully and slowly. He is our anti hero sorcerer who roped Cael down from Heaven long ago and has been using his energy every since to bring his wife back from Purgatory. Cael and Sterling could not be more different and they are both driven by opposite forces, Cael the good Sterling the evil. The storyline is pretty complex but not hard to follow. I love all the characters introduced, even and especially Lucifer.

I really loved Cael and Sterling's complicated chemistry. Through about 85% of the book it seems as if the desire is one sided. Cael loves Sterling and has for a long time. It's complicated since Sterling has brought Cael so much pain over centuries. But when the big reveal happens and Sterling is finally on the same wave length it was so so good. There is nothing better than desire between two men. Abernathy writes their intimate scenes very well, I just wish there were a few more. I also wish we saw more of Cael and Sterling's beginning, how Cael felt when he first fell and how Sterling felt about his success followed by failure after failure when he still can't bring his wife back. The ending was intense and then there is this moment with wings and horns and a horny tale and yup I was defiantly in heaven.

2.5 ⭐ — The storyline is quite good for “Stockholm Syndrome” if it expanded into deeper thought. The feeling between Carl and Sterling has for each other is pretty confusing and out of place in the end but I get it. I mean as the reader who is pretty confused about whatever the hell is happening, I get it.

The first book I read from this author is The Godbearer Series in its collaboration with L.C. Davis. I like the first book but the others were pretty disappointing. You guys can check my review for those books on the link below:
Bad Blood (The Godbearer, #1) — 4 ⭐️
Cold Blood (The Godbearer, #2) — 2 or 3 ⭐️
Blue Blood (The Godbearer, #3) — 2 or 1.5 ⭐️

”Everyone lies. Almost Always.”

This book might probably focus on more the difference between Humans and angels in both of their points of view. I had NILL knowledge about the truth in “Angel” but this book has not a real point ground when it comes to the connection between the Angel and its definition. I mean, it's kind of confusing because suddenly it comes to terms A, in the middle of it comes to term K, and in the end, it comes to the term H. You know what I meant? It's jumping to one meaning to another. I prefer that it only contains Omegaverse kind of book whose character has Angel traits. Not the Angel itself.

The smut of this book has Joel’s own style because it is good and hot enough if that’s the main point you are looking for. Also, the writing style this specific author has is remarkably poetic in a point of MAGNIFICENT!!! However, the issues this book has on the surface and implicitly written were not found unless I re-read it several times. But, this book pinpoints The Angel's History for my new knowledge in the cover of fiction.

What I don’t like in the storyline:
➊ The Alpha-Omega things between Demon, Human, and Angel
➋ The hold on feeling Louisa had over Sterling in the afterlife (?) what a nonsense
➌ Lucifer left out easily for his prey (?) umm….
➍ The magic and its price, good at first, so-so in the middle, and worst writing in the end

Overall this book is good and enough for light reading and would be much better if the storyline about Angel, Demons, and its creature can be explained further. The thing is, I as a reader have no idea where the middle ground of the main focus of this book is supposed to be. Because the storyline is still out of place when it comes to them and even though the magic has its own price in the storyline but it doesn’t cover the worst timing of everything in the plot. I appreciate that the author tried his best to pinpoint the Angel history if he applies it as well in the storyline, he did, but not like this. However, the way the author wrote in his own poetic style got me.

Love the cover, loved Cael and his tormentor

The blurb enticed me in, the story keptme reading, the characters entralled me.
Cael was more angelic than most angels, sweet and vulnerable but with hidden strength that kept him going all through the long years that Sterling used him as fuel for his dark magic. Sterling was completely immoral. Kidnapping, torturing and killing many victims to try and catch an angel to help bring his dead wife back to him, he didn't care how many people suffered to aachieve his aims.
I loved Cael from the very beginning, watching him turn from the beautiful pure soul who fell to save his charge's life to the jaded, snarky, but still pure in his heart and soul, angel who picked up human ways and vices. Seeing his inner guilt and shame at his changing feelings for Sterling, his dependence on the sorceror who was the bane of his existence, hating himself for all of that, only made me love him more.
Sterling was a complex character while being an extremely straightforward one at the same time. He had one goal and would not deviate from it, not even when faced with Cael's suffering. Cael crept inside his walls without him noticing but that made him change his ways, despite himself.
Their story was not an easy read but not as bad as I expected from the blurb. There was enough resistence and insolence from Cael to stop him being sickly sweet, and Sterling's moments of guilt and compassion made him sympathetic enough for readers to want their redemption.
I need a book now about Jay and 'Balthazar' because that tiny exchange between them at the end was just too good to let go!

I'm totally giving this one 5 stars!

This is definitely not your traditional Angel Demon story. Cael has a tough lot. Watching a twisted human sorcerer torture his charge was too much for him, and he chose to fall to bargain for his charge's life. Sterling, the sorcerer, just needs the power an angel possesses to fuel the spell to bring back his dead wife. Unfortunately, Cael is just a guardian angle, so he doesn't have the juice to get it done. No matter, he can still be useful, for the next couple centuries.

You don't dwell too much on the years Cael is with Sterling between the beginning and the end, but you get a peek. And you get a good sense of the suffering Cael has gone through all those years being away from other angels. But it's the end of the guardian angel and human's time together that this story is really about. It's about understanding the effects of your obsessions and what you do once you get them.

I'm going to be honest, the A/o dynamic I really didn't see coming. And I'm not all too sure it was really needed besides introduce a main player in the story and their reason for their actions. Sorry, vague I know, trying not to spoil the story here. But that blip in the story line was saved for me the way it ended, with both Cael and Sterling owning exactly who they have become.

3/5⭐⭐⭐

I definitely enjoyed Burning for You, but it wasn’t my favorite Joel Abernathy book (Puppet/Master, Exhale, and Masquerade are my favorites). I often have no idea where Abernathy is taking their plot lines, which is something I really enjoy. I enjoyed the twist on Angel/Demon/Alpha/Omega. I like that not all characters are, in fact, redeemable. And that’s a-okay in an Abernathy book. Morally grey, shady people exist and live and thrive in the real world as much as they do on page.
Maybe it was the dynamic of “falling for his captor” that didn’t hit home for me, maybe I just didn’t connect with Sterling, I’m not sure. But I felt like things were introduced that didn’t go anywhere – a certain spell we find out about, for example, Jay, etc. Things that were introduced that I thought would be important but just fizzled.
But it was a good read overall, especially if you like your themes dark and your characters darker. Abernathy books consistently do a good job of that.
Also as in any Abernathy book - check the CWs (abuse, blood).

Burning For You is a really interesting story about a guardian angel who sacrifices himself to a mad man in order to save the human he’s supposed to protect. Cael falls from Heaven and pledges himself to Sterling, a man who’s obsessed with bringing his wife back from the dead. Sterling needs Cael’s energy in order to perform his sorcery, so Cael essentially becomes his slave. The two are together over 130 years. Sterling’s magic becomes stronger, but he still hasn’t figured out how to resurrect his wife, and he and Cael have this weird symbiotic thing happening. Cael isn’t sure if he’s suffering from Stockholm Syndrome or if he’s actually fallen in love with Sterling. Abernathy creates a complex world of sex and magic that had me invested from the beginning. There are lots of twists and turns over the course of the story, and I’m not really sure how I feel about Sterling and Cael together. Overall, it’s a captivating story that forced me to think about good vs. evil and love vs. obsession.

My star rating is very subjective. I enjoyed this romp into fantasy land. It was a quick, easy and fun read. Dark in the sense that Sterling is definitely an antihero.. he tortures Cael.. and is for the most part ambivalent to his needs and pain. He has one focus.. that last for centuries… to free his dead wife from purgatory. He need Cael and his life force to do that.

We start in the past.. but quickly head towards present day. Both protagonists act more like and old snarky married couples by then! But Sterling still sees Cael and a means to an end.. despite his attachment.

It is not a profoundly deep read… but throughly enjoyable, if you want to step outside of reality for a short while and escape.

Both characters are engaging. I loved Cael.. despite his unhealthy attachment to his Master ..

It has all the ingredients:Master/slave hurt/comfort straight- to I’m obsessed with you. Angel/sorcerer/demon (with demon sex at the end!)

So if you just want to have a bit of escapism- this read will fit the bill quite nicely.

This story had so much going for it until about the halfway point, then it fell apart for me. This felt like a more grounded world of angels and demons and the witches that would use their power. We did not need the existence of were-beings and especially didn’t need the omega angle. This was one story with enough intrigue, danger and emotion that it did not need any other elements. Another unnecessary trope thrown in was edge play, specifically sadism and blood play. The violence at the beginning never extended to the sex, but by the middle the evil mc has rough sex with the other mc causing him to bleed and the evil mc enjoys both the blood and the pain sexually. No fucking dice for me. That’s were I tap the fuck out. So DNF 64%.

Also, just one quick last remark for authors: you do not have to play in every sandbox at once. Every book does not need omegas, bdsm, or whatever. Pick one and then focus more on story.

This is a take on enemies to lovers that really, really tests the power of love and forgiveness (falling for the guy who has been steadily torturing you for years is way up there on the angst/moral ambiguity scale, and that kept things interesting). Cael was my favorite part of the book, hands down: he’s a compelling blend of principled, vulnerable, funny, and likable. His connection with Sterling is fraught from the start, and the time they spend together changes both of them in some truly unexpected ways (no spoilers, but read to find out more on that one). I was a little underwhelmed by Sterling– as a villain he’s great, as a love interest, he gives less than he gets, which is something, considering the way they started. Overall, however, an interesting read, and if the blurb calls to you, it’s worth picking up.

I like my depraved MCs as much as anybody else, but I need the obsession and devotion from one MC to match the depraved evil shit committed against the other MC. This book did not give me that. Sterling was just a tad too annoying, arrogant, and unrepentant to make everything that Cael went through worth it. I wanted - no, needed - way more groveling from Sterling than I got.

I do have to say, the Alpha/Omega plot line sort of came out of nowhere, but you get used to it.

The whole resolution between Sterling and Louisa also felt a tad unsatisfactory. The fact that the entire tidbit about Louisa love-spelling Sterling was seemingly glossed over by the characters in the know left me scratching my head.

All in all, it is a good, solid plot and I liked that the side characters did not completely fade into the background.

Do you like paranormal stories?
Do you like your MCs twisted and depraved?
Do you like hate s3x?
If the above is your thing, then I definitely suggest Burning for You!!

Alchemist Sterling is hell-bent on resurrecting his dead wife and he will do whatever it takes, even if it means tricking an angel into falling and using their powers.
Guardian Angel Cael has fallen in the hopes of saving his charge from the evil alchemist, but when he trades his life for this charge's he discovers just how evil evil can be.
Cael starts to feel more than contempt for Sterling. How can he care for a man he hates so much?

Burning for You is an enemy/lovers story. It's brutal in parts and sweet in others.
No-one writes paranormal romance like JA and I can't wait for their next book!!

So this was really hard to review for me- I spent 90% of the book hating Sterling and thinking he was not good enough for Cael. The book itself is well written with an intriguing storyline but there really was not many bonding moments. There was a huge amount of time these characters were together but I guess nothing of interest really happened since it was largely ignored. I think less time together and or more details on how Cael came to love Sterling would have made this a 5 star for me. As always the characters were well developed including side characters I’d love to see get there own story. There was no lack of heat even if it wasn’t necessarily romantic.

Judgement

“I knew I wanted him. Needed him, even if he was the poison in my veins.” This is very much a I-hate-to-love-him-but-love-to-hate-him (on both sides) type romance, which I enjoyed. Both Spencer and Cael had me feeling lots of feelings and I’m still not sure how sure I feel, if that makes sense, but it’s an interesting PNR read as the way that side of things unfolded definitely threw me for an loop. I will say these two have oodles of chemistry to help cushion their tortured way to their HEA, and I’m really curious about some of the secondary characters we met. Maybe they’ll be more to come in this world.
