Laura Irving spends her days helping in the family farm, still mourning her brother’s sudden death.
Alexander Conner, Duke of Farnworth, is the epitome of what how a Duke should live an act. Cold and aloof on the outside but lonely on the inside, his boring life changes the day he hires Laura to be the new governess of his unruly sister.

Emma Linfield has always been passionate about historical romances. Ever fascinated with the world of Regency England and being utmost inspired by Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer’s work, she decided she wanted to write her own stories. Stories of love and tradition being mixed in the most appealing way for every hopeless romantic, much like herself.
Born and raised in Southern California, Emma Linfield has a degree in Creative Writing and English Literature, and she has been working as a freelance writer for the past 10 years. When she isn’t writing, Emma loves spending her time with her own prince charming and two beautiful children, all the while enjoying the famous Californian sun and ocean.
So, hop on to this exciting journey of Dukes, Earls and true love with Emma and find pleasure in the old fashioned world of Regency - an Era of pure romance, elegance and high fashion!
Knowing the state of her parents’ marriage shattered Lady Emily’s romantic notions. She has come to despise men and sworn off marriage. Unfortunately, even the most guarded lady can be careless.
Charles Harding, the Duke of Hillington, believes himself to be a death sentence to anyone close to him. He will never let this curse hurt anyone ever again. He will never love again, even if it kills him…
They never realized they had been alone on that terrace until it was too late. Now their vows contain their pact: She will never love him and he will never lie to her. If only it were that simple…
Ms. Linfield has written another delightful book! Becoming Duke at a very young age, his uncle helps to raise him, telling him everyone that gets close to him is hurt. While talking to a young lady on the terrace, learn they were alone so forced to wed, but he didn’t want any harm to her so stayed away from her! To find how she handled it makes the book!
A very nice story about a young lady and gentleman who accidentally allowed themselves to be compromised, which resulted in their marriage. The duke believed in an old story about a family curse & tried to avoid actually falling for his new wife. Of course, we all know how that worked out. A sweet story.
She has nothing but distant for men but must attend the balls so her sister can find a husband. Being caught in a compromising situation, being forced to marry wasn’t in either of their plans. Each has vowed to never love another so their marriage is very strange but the best laid plans offer don’t turn out.
A Sensitive Duke and Audacious Bluestocking Confront a Curse
From the beginning and all through the story, the banter between Charles and Emily is witty and intelligent. In fact it presents such a distraction at the ball, they find themselves in a compromised incident they had tried to avoid. Charles already has a reputation as a rake. Due to her parents relationship, Emily has no interest in marriage. Neither of them wants to be married. Both of them had unsuccessful prior courtships. After their wedding they make personal vows to each other which enhance the plot of the story. Their intriguing interactions present mutual appeal. A shared love of literature sprinkles quotes through some conversations. In this tender tale, the author uses delightful dialogue to reveal the depth of their personalities. Charles and Emily learn to cherish each other. Since the mysterious curse has functioned to isolate Charles and frustrate Emily, it is a relief when the source and consequences of it are discovered. This is a most enjoyable book
The regency romance version of the meet-cute is, of course, getting “compromised” … I have not divulged much as this takes place in the first chapter or so …
This book suffers from a surfeit of noble characters. The main protagonists are so sickeningly nice. They banter in Shakespeare - I think I found an error, but that’s beside the point. This is supposed, perhaps, to imply a certain level of intelligence. When it comes to the heroine, it might be so. She behaves logically for the most part. When it comes to the hero, it’s a different story.
As stories in this particular sub-genre go, this one is pretty tame. However, the principal characters do exchange vows and - inevitably - grow an attachment. This is not a spoiler; it’s rather a template for the entire vein of simplistic regency literature. One may surmise that marital relations naturally happen. One would hope that there were rules of conduct against bedding the intellectually stunted even if they are a duke.
What a difference! I gave ‘Her Duke by Accident’ a one star rating & a scathing review. Always wishing to be fair I read this one & it’s an improvement. The grammar and phrasing are still poor, there are ridiculous modern Americanisms such as ‘updo’ but it is nowhere near as appalling as the other book. The plot of a marriage via a compromised lady works well enough; the core plot-line of the curse, and how the duke handles it, does stretch the imagination. Did everyone else guess the villain early in the book? I’ve been torn between giving this book a 2 or 3 star rating. Ignoring the faults et al, it was such an improvement I gave in to my better nature and plumped for a 3.
The book was really good! it was a mystery, as well as a romance, intense, excellent book! keeps you hanging till the very end! it's sad for the character who spend so much time believing something not real. the woman who comes into his life and marries him tries to show him how unreal it is. A great ending ! Very good book!!
This is quite a "nice" story but too pedestrian and so obvious very early what the outcome would be, it isn't particularly sophisticated but although sounding immature was well written
A nice, easy, sweet read, some angst, no risqué bits. A few books I have read lately have been too long for me…… this one got on with the story and moved along at a good pace and maintained my interest at a high level throughout.
What an intriguing story about a curse that almost caused Charles to forfeit love forever. Luckily he met Emily and although their marriage did not start well it brought out that the curse was a lie. They were then able to forge a loving relationship together.
This story left me with a sense of peace. It was a delight to read and the characters were easy to like. I enjoyed this brief book. Definitely worth a read.
A story of struggle, compassion, and the determination to overcome life's obstacles and of past cruelty. Discovering truth and genuine love can bring clarity, hope and happily ever after.
This really is a remarkable tale of a husband and wife who are incredibly compatible, but it took them some time to recognise and act on their love since they had never imagined themselves together!
