Love is certainly in the air this month!! Look at this beautiful book cover. I couldn’t pass this one up!!
🌸 This is the third book in a series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone. I wish NetGalley would tell us if it’s part of a series though……one of my NG pet peeves.
🌸 The story starts off with Nick saving Harlow’s life after she was in a horrible auto accident on her way to Mistletoe. Nick lives in Mistletoe Main and works on the Search & Rescue team. Harlow is a veterinarian from Settle and she is staying in Mistletoe temporarily in exchange for the forgiveness of her vet school bills. Harlow swears she is not the small-town kind of gal. Will Nick and the rest of the town of Mistletoe change her mind? Will Harlow stay in Mistletoe Main?
❤️ Read this if you like: ❤️Small-town slow-burn romance ❤️ Single Dad Trope ❤️ A sweet Hallmark-like romance with a HEA ❤️ A quick heartwarming read ❤️ Also discussed: Loss of a loved one, anger, overcoming & confronting your past
🌸 I really enjoyed Belle Calhoune’s writing style. Her characters were realistic and lovable. I will definitely go back to read the other two books in the series.
I received a free copy of, Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane, by Belle Calhoune, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Veterinarian Harlow just wanted a break, she got when when her car skidded off the road in Mistletoe, Maine This was a warm and cozy read. I really liked Harlow's character.
Mistletoe, Maine sounds like such a delightful place. Dr. Harlow Jones is a veterinarian with a lot of student loan debt. She finds information that if she will work at a clinic known as Paws in Mistletoe, Maine, for one year, the state of Maine will have her debt forgiven. She is conflicted about moving to Mistletoe as she is averse to small town living, but she knows it is the best for thing for her, especially since it is temporary. On her way into town she has an accident and is rescued by the hero of the book, Nick Keegan. Nick works with Search and Rescue, and he comforts Harlow while she is being rescued and then rescues her as well. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out Nick is a hunky stud and a hero to boot.
They do not realize that they are tied together by family and friends until they both attend a party for Nick's brother and his wife (who happens to be Harlow's best friend). There is a little romance brewing, but Harlow has some walls built up. Nick is also a little timid as he has not gotten over the loss his young wife. You can actually feel the romantic tension coming off of the pages of the book. They are fighting an internal battle to keep from falling for each other. Harlow is also adamant that she will not live in a small town due to a traumatic situation from her childhood.
I loved the characters in this book. The characters are three dimensional, and they come alive off of the pages. Harlow is a conscientious vet who dearly loves animals, and even though she has some barriers erected, she still has a loving personality. Nick is a hero who loves to protect and serve. He takes his job very seriously and grieves for those he cannot save. He is also a fantastic father to Miles. This book would make a wonderful Hallmark movie. It was one of those books that gave you warm and fuzzy feelings, but it also tackled real life issues like dealing with a terminally ill parent and grieving the loss of a spouse. This was a definitely worthy of five stars.
Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for this ARC.
Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane by Belle Calhoune is book #3 in the Mistletoe, Maine series. This is a sweet romance. The characters are very likable, especially the two main characters Harlow Jones and Nick Keegan. Nick's son, Miles is an interesting character. Not your typical nine-year-old. I was attracted to this book by the fact Harlow Jones is a veterinarian. This aspect did not disappoint. Harlow's and Nick's journey to a Happily Ever After was an entertaining read.
Falling In Love on Sweetwater Lane by Belle Calhoune is book #3 in the Mistletoe, Maine series. Unfortunately, it is the final book which makes me really sad. I totally fell in love with Mistletoe and all its small town charms. Harlow Jones has been offered a chance of a lifetime. Maine will pay off all her student loans if she works one year at PAWS (a veteniary clinic in Mistletoe, Maine). Though she hates small towns, she knows it's too good of an opportunity to turn down. She'll be closer to her mom and her twin brother who reside in Cape Cod and Boston. On her first day there, she gets rescued by Nick Keegan. Nick Keegan is a search and rescue team leader. He is a widower with a son. Though he hasn't felt a spark yet for someone new that changes the moment he meets Harlow. Harlow isn't looking for love, but it doesn't hurt to hang out with Nick for a year until she moves back to Seattle. That's the plan anyways. Yet, both Nick and Harlow can't stop their feelings growing for each other. Can Harlow learn to love small towns again and stop running away from her past and insecurities? Hopefully, Nick and his son Miles can convince her that they are enough of a reason for her to change her mind. I am going to miss this small lovely New England town. I loved getting to know everyone. You don't need to read the books in order and you can definitely follow the story without reading the first two books. But I think you'll want to read all of them to get to know all these wonderful characters and all the charms of Mistletoe. Like most series, all the main characters are connected or related to each other. I liked how each of the previous main characters were quite present in each of the subsequent books. I also love seeing how a city girl who hated small towns got to see all the wonderful things about living in a small town like Mistletoe. She came to love that small town and the community and friends she found there. As I said, I am going to miss Mistletoe. Thankfully we get an epilogue. It was beautiful and of course, I teared up reading about their happy ending. Even though everything was tied up in a nice bow, I still have hope that maybe just maybe Belle Calhoune might write a little short story or another book about the people of Mistletoe, Maine. I was given a copy of this book, but all opinions are my very own!
Harlow is moving to Mistletoe for the year after getting the opportunity to clear her student debt while working as a veterinarian. She loves taking care of animals and prides herself on being a fantastic vet. Nick grew up in Mistletoe and after tragically losing his wife a few years ago has had to build a life with his son Miles. After meeting Harlow he thinks he can maybe see a future with her. The only problem is he has a lot on his plate right now -a new dog his brother dropped off, a busy schedule, and dealing with unresolved anger. Harlow is enjoying Nick's company but really doesn't want the white picket fence or anything that goes along with a small town -after all, her childhood was ripped apart by rumors and he dads passing. As she navigates her mother's illness, her brother reminds her that love is important and it's okay for her to feel that.
I am beyond happy that the author finally gave us Nick's story! It was raw and beautiful and I am just not ready to leave this sweet town. Belle - Can we, pretty please, have a story for Malcom next??
Events that happen in our past have bearing on our actions and feelings in the present. For Harlow Jones, in her childhood, she had some traumatic events when her father was thought to have taken a large sum of money from his medical practice and the rumors crushed him in his small town. His family eventually had to leave town and then he was killed in a car accident. This experience has stayed with Harlow all her life and has kept her from getting close to people. Nick Keegan's wife was killed by a drunk driver and totally changed his life and his son's life. He's grieved for several years. When he meets Harlow, he realizes it might be time to finally start dating again. However, she's only in town for a year as the town's vet to fulfil a requirement to pay off her student loans. She likes the big city and wants to return. Small towns are nothing but trouble to her. Can he change her mind? I loved Nick's character and his son, Miles! Harlow was ok, just a little uptight to me. I did like her twin brother, Malcolm though! I was really happy that all the characters from previous books were in this book a lot!
Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane by Belle Calhoune is a book that would make a great Hallmark Movie. The book is a happily ever after with two characters that you are going to root for! Nick is a great dad and a caring rescue worker. Harlow is the new vet in town that has a chip on her shoulder about small towns.
The two seem to keep running into each other with common friends and family. You have to hope that they can find their way to each other. Harlow has got to be willing to change her mind about small towns.
The story is nice. I didn’t buy the setting in Maine as appropriate for the story, but the author certainly had the small town vibes down. Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane by Belle Calhoune was a good read.
A return to rural small town Mistletoe, Maine brings Harlow to start over. She only wants to fulfill her obligation and then move back to the West Coast. She is haunted by what happened to her family when she was a child. Nick has a young son to raise, but is willing to try at love again. However, Harlow wants low key casual. I loved all the animals but not the smear campaign against Harlow as a vet. I was crushed at one point but had hopes that All would turn out well, I mean, come on, it has to with a town named Mistletoe! Thanks to NetGalley and Forever for the early read.
Four and a Half Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭒ Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane by Belle Calhoune is the third book in the Mistletoe, Maine Series but can easily be read as a stand-alone. This sweet, heartwarming romance is sure to warm your heart.
Story Recap: Veterinarian Harlow Jones moves to Mistletoe Maine to take a one-year position as a veterinarian at the PAWS vet clinic. She doesn’t like small towns because of some issues she had as a child, but in order to pay off her student loans, she knows she can handle one year in a small town. She’ll just grin and bear it.
Nick believes he might be ready to love again after the loss of his wife, and starts to feel something for the first time since his wife’s death for the lovely new veterinarian, Harlow. But, she’s determined to leave her year is up, can Nick and his son convince Harlow to stay?
My Thoughts: I enjoyed this lovely small-town romance. It’s part of a series, and I didn’t read the first two books, but still fully enjoyed this third book in the series. I now need to read the first two books as I really loved the setting in Mistletoe, Maine.
Both Harlow and Nick don’t want to get into a relationship, but their chemistry is strong, and they have so much in common. I liked this slow-burn romance and liked that Nick and Harlow spent some time together before the romance set in. Nine-year-old Miles, Nick’s son was a nice addition to the story. I just can’t resist a good single-dad story. Overall this was a sweet, charming story with a satisfying romance.
Recommendation: I highly recommend Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane to anyone who enjoys romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
FALLING IN LOVE ON SWEETWATER LANE is an engaging story about two people who are resisting the pull of love because of their pasts. Once again, the author, Belle Calhoune, takes us to Mistletoe, Maine and introduces us to Harlow Jones, a Veterinarian and reintroduces us to Nick Keegan. We first met Nick in SUMMER ON BLACKBERRY BEACH which is the story of his brother, Luke and his lady love, Stella Marshall. At the beginning of the story, Nick saves Harlow’s life when she becomes involved in an auto crash. Nick is a member of the Search & Rescue team. Harlow is planning to live in Mistletoe for an year, and work as a vet in a deal with the State to pay her student loans. She swears that she is not a fan of small town life— a bitter memory from her past.
I enjoyed Nick and Harlow’s story that chronicles their friendship. When that friendship begins to morph into a serious relationship, that’s where the story gets a little bogged down in their past lives. There are a few highlights of the storyline that are refreshing: Nick’s son Miles perspective of his father and Harlow’s relationship, the iTrick or Treat Halloween incident, and the damage that the small-town gossip mill can do. You’ll get that when you read the book..
This is story that looks at the family dynamic and how past incidents influences the future. It’s a solid story that gets a little stalled when the heroine (Harlow) has problems moving forward. I still recommend it for your reading pleasure especially if you are a small town romance fan.
I really enjoyed this book. It is the third book in the series and you can read them in order or read them as a stand alone. You won't feel lost if you have not read the other two books.
Harlow has some issues in her childhood that she has to work out, one is having to move from the house that she loved after her father died.
Nick is having a hard time getting over the loss of his wife and is raising their son by himself. I enjoyed the story and can't wait to read more by Belle Calhoune.
Harlow Jones is a veterinarian and is moving to Mistletoe for 1 year to get her student loans paid off. She doesn't like living in a small town. Nick Keegan is on the local rescue team. Harlow's car spins out of control as she is coming into town. The man to get her out of the car is Nick' she tries to find him to thank him later. Nick is a widower with a son and not really looking for a woman to date. Harlow and Nick keep running into each other in the small town, and soon find out they have a lot of friends and family in common. Can Harlow get used to living in a small town and will Nick open his heart again? This is my first-time reading Belle Calhoune she has written a wonderful story.
I am a huge fan of Belle Calhoune, her small town of Mistletoe, Maine and the people who call it home. Nick Keegan and his son Miles have been patiently waiting for a story and I'm happy to say that their book, Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane, is amazing!
Nick, a man committed to living in Mistletoe is paired with a woman, Harlow, who hates small towns, and is only there to eliminate her student loan debt. This big city woman had a terrible experience in her small town as a child and she has no desire to relive the horror of that time. She is not a person who develops friendships or romantic relationships and intends to follow those rules while in Mistletoe. Of course, Mistletoe and all that it encompasses, may have something to say about that.
Nick and Harlow each face a number of struggles both large and small throughout this novel. The emotional journey that they each go through tests their strength and at times their connection. Will their struggles be too much to handle? Will Harlow be able to stay in Mistletoe throughout her commitment due to family issues? Due to her struggle with small town gossip? And How does Nick handle the things that Harlow is struggling with? And things and feelings regarding his late wife? So many questions and the answers so complicated.
I enjoy how realistic Calhoune keeps her stories. Her characters are well developed with layers of complex emotions and relatable back stories. They experience emotions and reactions that are realistic. She infuses their journeys with plenty of humor but doesn't hold back from honest, heart-wrenching emotion.
This is the third book in Calhoune's Mistletoe Maine series, however, Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane can be enjoyed as a standalone, That being said I wholely recommend all three books in the series.
I received this from Netgalley and from Forever Grand Central Publishing. This novel was not something I loved or disliked. I felt like it was really light and Hallmark like. It is a cute love story however very predictable.
FALLING IN LOVE ON SWEETWATER LANE by Belle Calhoune is the third book in the Mistletoe, Maine series. It’s the delightfully written story of Harlow Jones and Nick Keegan. While one’s always lived in the small town, the other has moved there against her better judgement in order to eliminate her schooling debts. Can these two people so completely different manage to find what neither of them was looking for?
The growing up years of Harlow and Malcolm, her twin brother, were fair from ideal. Once living in a small town and living the perfect family dream, when it was all turned upside down almost instantly. Her father was accused of embezzling from the medical office where he was a doctor and shortly after died in a tragic car accident leaving his family to take the blunt of the shame and ridicule. Her mother was never the same. While she did all she could to support her kids, she also left behind some emotional scars. One of them was constantly reaffirming that small town life was the absolute worse. Something Harlow carried into adulthood as much as feeling like she was unworthy of real, every lasting love or a happily every after. Those things didn’t exist – especially for her. The idea of picking up and moving to one of those small towns scared Harlow to death. However, with the state of Maine willing to pay off all her student loans to become a veterinary doctor if she stayed with a clinic that was badly in the need of her services, it turned out to be more than she could resist. One year – she could do this! In and out – debt free and no strings.
Nick was a search and rescue expert by trade and a dad to one amazing 9 year old son. The dynamic duo had been on their own for a few years now since the tragic death of Nick’s wife. Although many had tried matching him up and he’s tried a few dates, there had never been any kind of connection or even the desire for the second date. It was through his job that he first met Harlow. She had been on the way into town on slick roads, when she weaved to avoid an animal and it almost cost her life. Barely hanging onto a guardrail and about to fall into the water at the bottom of the cliff, it was Nick that arrived to save the day. One look and Nick could see he might be in trouble with those beautiful eyes. Once medical took over, he disappeared into the crowd and left, but the memory of Harlow stuck with him.
When it comes to light that Harlow’s best friend from college is Nick’s sister-in-law, will their next meeting have the same effect – on them both? Can Harlow keep her no strings and leaving town in a year philosophy? Can Nick begin to see the desire for someone in his life other than Miles and family? If so, what will Mile’s reaction be to a new person being included in the “duos” lives? Could small town gossip have Harlow going into the smalltown tailspin? Who would try to ruin her reputation – one she’s worked years to achieve - and why? Is her job at the clinic in danger? How could she go back to the big city and still owe all those student loans. Can Nick prove to her how much she means to him – to the town?
FALLING IN LOVE ON SWEETWATER LANE will have you feeling so many emotions as you feel for both Harlow and Nick for the things that happen in their pasts, their attraction in the present and their separate dreams of the future. Your desire to see Harlow realize her worth and the wonder of Nick being able to open his life up again will have you quickly turning pages in this can’t put down book. Belle Calhoune adds so many layers to her story, like the addition of Belle’s mom suffering from dementia and the bond between siblings – both of Belle’s and Nick’s, that you can’t help but love her books that make you always anxious for the next new release. The epilogue gives us a little hint as to who the next book in the series might be about. I’m super excited to find out and will be anxious to read it as well upon its released. FALLING IN LOVE ON SWEETWATER LANE most definitely gets my FIVE STAR feel good rating for a fabulous read!
I receive a copy of this book from the author with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own.
Ever since Nick Keegan appeared on the pages of No Ordinary Christmas, the first book in Belle Calhoune’s Mistletoe, Maine series I hoped he would get a story. And when I found out that he would, I patiently waited.
Nick is a widower and single father to his nine-year-old son Miles. Almost four years ago, his high school sweetheart turned wife was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. Since then, Nick has dedicated his life to being the best father he could be, while continuing to work for Maine’s Search and Rescue. Over the years, Nick has managed to sidestep the single ladies of Mistletoe and others who tell him that he needs to start dating again.
Since she was a pre-teen, Harlow Jones has dispised small towns. She grew up in one that she loved but was forced to move away from when gossip and scandal tore her once-loving family apart. Now an animal vet, Harlow finds herself moving from Seattle, Washington to the small town of Mistletoe, Maine for a one-year assignment, which will result in the state of Maine paying off all her student loan debts. The move will not only put her on the same coast as Malcolm, her twin brother but also closer to her mother who lives in a nursing facility. The added benefit is that she will have at least one friend in Mistletoe. Harlow and Stella Keegan (Summer on Blackberry Beach), Nick’s sister-in-law, went to college together.
Nick and Harlow meet when he rescues her after an accident. Their attraction is immediate, however, no last names or contact information is exchanged. It isn’t until they meet up again that they realize their connection. The two start to go on casual dates, but Harlow is clear that she isn’t looking for anything serious and that when her year is up Mistletoe will be in her rearview mirror. Harlow is entirely unprepared for Nick and the amazing man that he is.
I. Loved. Nick. Seriously, he’s one of the good ones and can do no wrong in my book. Miles already had my heart. And that heart ached for him when he showed his vulnerability. I found Harlow to be a good character, who carried way too much baggage. But finally was willing to own up to her past and triggers. I can definitely see them all making a wonderful family.
I really wish that Belle could write a couple more books in this series, where she skipped ahead about 15/20 years. I would love to read stories about Miles and Stella’s younger sister Tess.

This book features a sweet, unexpected romance between two people who have not been looking for love. In the past, love has brought pain and loss to both Nick and Harlow. Nick, a search and rescue expert, lost his wife a few years ago when her car was involved in an accident with a drunk driver. Since then, any time outside of his job has been devoted to raising his young son and working his way through the grieving process. Nick has dated in the past couple of years, but hasn’t felt a connection or spark to any of the women he has dated. That changes the day he rescues Harlow from a terrible car accident.
Harlow felt the connection and the sparks between them too, though she didn’t get a chance to talk to Nick again before he disappeared. Imagine her surprise when she discovers that her handsome rescuer lives in the small town where she will be living and working for the next year. He is also her friend Stella’s brother-in-law, so they are bound to see each other again. While Nick is eager to see Harlow again and ask her out, Harlow is hesitant and wary. She has never had good luck in relationships, small town gossip ruined her family’s life in the past, and her veterinarian job in town is meant to be for just one year. Then she intends to put small town life behind her again, and return to city living debt free. Her hesitation puts Nick off at first, but they soon are looking forward to getting to know each other better. Unfortunately, malicious gossip soon puts Harlow’s rekindled love of small towns, her job and her relationship with Nick in jeopardy. Will she let these rumours and the pain from the past affect her life again? Can Nick convince her to stay? Will they both fight for their relationship and the future they could have together?
These characters are easy to like, very relatable and demand your attention until the last word has been read. Their story is sweet, poignant and fascinating, perfect for those who love romance, but don’t want racy or graphic details. I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I've fallen hard for Belle Calhoune's small town of Mistletoe, Maine and the people who call it home. Nick Keegan (and his young son, Miles) have been begging for a story and I'm happy to say that their book, Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane, is all I had hoped for.
Leave it to Calhoune to pair single dad, Nick, a man with both feet firmly planted in Mistletoe with a woman who loathes small towns, is only there to eliminate her student loan debt, and is determined to not stay one day longer than she is contractually obligated. This big city woman had enough of small towns as a child and has no desire to relive the horror of that time. She may be game for some fun but relationships and friendships are not for her. Of course, Mistletoe, with her pups and people, may have something to say about that.
I enjoy how real Calhoune keeps her stories. Her characters are well developed with layers of complex emotions and relatable back stories creating obstacles to love. She infuses their journeys with plenty of humor and charm but doesn't hold back from honest, heart-wrenching emotion. Harlow's struggles with her mother's illness and Nick's anger over an unexpected curveball related to his late wife's death are good examples. I appreciate that she doesn't give them easy solutions to their issues but confronts them head on. Once her couples work through the emotional turmoil of what life has dealt them, and choose to be happy together, I'm confident in the staying power of their love and life together.
This is the third book in Calhoune's Mistletoe Maine series and from what I've read, this concludes the series (though I'm holding out hope for a story for Harlow's twin brother, Malcom). Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane can be enjoyed as a standalone, although main couples and secondary characters from the first two books are prominent in this third book as well. For that reason, you may want to start with book one, No Ordinary Christmas (Lucy and Dante), followed by book two, Summer on Blackberry Beach (Luke and Stella). All three books have my enthusiastic recommendation.

I loved the prologue. There’s nothing like a good prologue to lure you into a book. It sets the tone for how the book will go.
I love everything about this book. From how the author cleverly weaves her words together, creating a subtle mystery which engages you into turning the next page. You just want to know.
I love the multi-cultural vibes. I have read a lot of books like this but what makes this especially special is that these are people who look like me. They are people and scenes that I can relate to and with. I love that it celebrates our community and it makes me happy reading about people like myself.
This book explores relationships. Relationships between parents and children, siblings, man and woman, cousins. It celebrates love, family, values and relationships.
There is also grief- you cannot fully get over the loss of a loved one but you find the means of getting by each day while still keeping their memories alive.
I love all of the characters-from Miles to Tess and even Gillian and Zeus. The small town vibes raised the notch for me. From people welcoming strangers to them not minding their business, I just love it.
I love how Nick was just himself and how he was able to pull him out of his grief. I admire his devotion to Miles, his dedication to his job, his love for his family and his community.
I love how he was able to ‘break down’ all of Harlow’s defenses while still being consistent true to who he is.
Even though this is a part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone and you will fall in love with all of the characters, even the others from previous books.
I look forward to reading more works from the author.
This was such a cute and cozy little read kind of a slow-burn but still enjoyable. Belle Calhoune is such an excellent writer without a doubt. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into the book just because I’m not big on the small town clean romance type books. I like a little drama & spice in my life but this was adorably romantic.
It follows two MC’s Nick Keegan a single small town dad who lost his wife a few years back and Harlow Jones a veterinarian from the city who took a job in Mistletoe, Maine temporarily to clear some debt. After a freak accident occurs causing Harlow’s car to slide off the road she meets Nick who happens to be apart of the towns Search & Rescue team. Sparks eventually arise between the two but a few personal things get in the way of their growing relationship.
I was really rooting for Nick and Harlow’s relationship. She kinda gave him a hard time in the beginning but I can’t really blame Harlow considering she had personal issues to deal with of her own. A lot of it was fear, anxiety, and doubt but Nick had his problems too. Both also dealt with some form of loss and were still learning to cope.
All of the characters were lovable even the side characters. I love how the author included Nick’s son Miles and his reaction to his father dating another woman after losing his mom. The characters and the situations they were dealing with or were put into seemed so realistic and easy to relate too. I enjoyed seeing how someone’s life unfolds after losing a spouse and how it affects everyone.
This was the third book in the Mistletoe, Maine series will definitely have to check out the other two books. Overall, I really enjoyed this swoony love story. Definitely recommend if you’re into small town romances it’s worth the read. Special thanks to @readforeverpub for my gifted copy!!!

This book is another one I didn’t realize was part of a series. The great news is that it can definitely be read as a stand alone and I didn’t feel like I was missing anything from the previous books!
Harlow Jones hates small town living. She grew up in a small town until the family was forced to leave after her father was accused of embezzling money from his medical practice. These accusations were eventually proven to be false but long after her father died.
Mistletoe Maine is the quintessential small town. Harlow is a successful veterinarian and she is offered a one year contract to work in Mistletoe at a busy vet clinic in exchange for both a salary and her students loans will be forgiven. As much as she hates small towns, she can’t refuse the opportunity.
Now that Harlow is in Mistletoe, she vows to not get attached and be on her way as soon as her contract is up. Nick Keegan a widowed single father may have other plans.
After dating Nick and building friendships with many of the townspeople, Harlow is starting to wonder if she is a small town girl after all!
This was a cute, clean romance. The story focused on Harlow and Nick but there was a wonderful cast of side characters who have either already had their own story or you can see the potential of a forthcoming story. This was a super quick read and kept me engaged. I’m giving this one 4 stars and putting the other books from the series on my tbr.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own. Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane is the third in Belle Calhoune’s diverse small-town Mistletoe, Maine series. You can read this one as a standalone, although the recurring town aspects are a lot of fun for returning readers (although, full disclosure: I somehow missed that there even had been a book two!) I did enjoy this one a tad bit more than the first, as there was some surprising character depth, particularly to Nick. He lost his wife in a car crash, and his grief over the loss, including his blame toward the other person involved (who he describes as having “killed” his wife) feel so visceral. The sheer anger at having come face-to-face with that person and having to deal with that unresolved trauma really spoke to me. Harlow is equally compelling due to having some baggage of her own that she must contend with throughout the book, and which she spends a lot of the story running from. I like that this formed both a sort of bonding point for her and Nick, while also serving as an obstacle, as she continues to run and he has roots in the community and with Miles, his young son who he’s raising as a single parent. Their path to love is predictable, but sweet…especially with the role Miles plays in their romance. This is a cozy, fun read, and will satisfy anyone looking for small-town, Hallmark-style romance with Black and other diverse characters in leading roles.
Moving to a small town in Maine wasn't part of her plan, but when the little town of Mistletoe makes her an offer she can't turn down she finds herself quickly packing up her belongings and heading that way. If she works in their PAWS vet clinic for one year than they will help her pay off her student loan debt, and that is a life changing deal that she can't turn down. She has her reservations about small towns due to her past, but one year in this little town can't be that bad, right? Little does she know this little town is about to give her everything she never knew she needed!
Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane is a sweet, slow burn romance that'll check all the boxes! In this newest installment of the series we get to see single dad Nick find love once again, even though he thought is wasn't possible. After losing his wife a few years ago his sole focus has been on giving his son the best life possible, which leaves little free time to date, not that he is really ready for that anyhow. But when he meets town newcomer Harlow he can't help but fall for her, she's sweet, beautiful and has a good heart, especially when it comes to animals. The two hit it off beautifully, a friendship of sorts develops, and love follows soon after! I loved watching these two find love, their story squeezed my heart in all the best ways and left me smiling! Highly recommend this one, it's wonderfully penned words will warm your heart!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
Harlow is a veterinarian relocating to Mistletoe Maine for a year to work at a vet clinic when she is promised that they will pay off her doing loan debt. She's had a bad experience with a small town and has not been able to get over it so she is less than broke to be there but will do what she can. Nick is a widower and a single father now looking to open his card again when he meets Harlow. It's clear that she isn't going to stay for long but they'll figure things out on the way.
If you're a seasonal reader where you like a book that takes place during a certain time then you're in luck because this book takes place in the autumn and it's already got me in the mood for some fall activies. Anyways I thought this book was really good I really enjoyed getting to know the characters. When it came to Harlow and her issues with small towns it was a bit much. Even with all the explanation and knowing why I just kind of thought it was a bit ridiculous and how far she was willing to go when it came to it. I really like Nick's character he was pretty much a they stand up guy and a great father. I really enjoyed seeing the relationship form between the two even though it was unsure of how the future would become since Harlow is only going to be there for a little while. Then there's the whole small town issue of gossiping which really unnerved Harlow I was very curious on how that would play out and how it would be resulted in the end. Overall this was a pretty good read I really enjoyed it.
I’m so happy to be back in Mistletoe, Maine in Belle Calhoune’s newest, Falling in Love on Sweetwater Lane. I’m especially thrilled we’ve come to widower Nick’s story. If you’ve read the first two books in the series, you already know search and rescuer Nick is a great guy and a devoted dad to his young son Miles. After the tragic death of his love-of-his-life wife, it’s taken a long time for him to feel like he could open his heart to someone new. When he rescues Harlow Jones from her car accident right outside town, he wonders if she might be the one to open his heart’s door. Seattle veterinarian Harlow is a city gal all the way. Small towns are for driving through…preferably to “blink and miss”. But she racked up school debt chasing her dream, and Mistletoe is offering a way to erase it. How? Commit to one year at the vet clinic in their little community. Despite her aversion to the locale, she can’t pass up this opportunity. Plus, sparks are flying between her and Nick. She can’t start something when she’s counting down the days to leave, can she? Can Nick and Miles impress upon her heart the reasons to stay far outweigh the reasons to go? I love this sweet town (you will, too!) and how we meet up again with friends from the previous books. Plus it has my favorite…an epilogue! I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.
Harlow is a veterinarian with a past that includes childhood trauma that shaped her, but also stunted her potential relationships. All she is looking for in Mistletoe, Maine, is a way to pay off her school loans. Nothing more. God had other plans and she meets Nick Keegan while he is rescuing her while her car is teetering into oblivion her first day in town. Nick is a widower, dad to a 9 year old son, and all around amazing guy. What's not to like? Harlow and Nick agree to see where a casual relationship takes them, knowing all along that Harlow plan so return to Seattle once her year contract is up in Mistletoe. When feelings grow between the two of them, will they see where it continues to lead or stop before things truly get serious since they wanted a lighthearted, easy relationship? When things get really tough, will Harlow's past trauma kick her fight or flight response? You'll need to pick this one up to find out! You won't regret it! There are occasional minor cuss words within this story, but nothing crude or derogatory and I didn't feel like they detracted from the story. I received an advance copy of this book from the author, but was under no obligation to write a favorable review. All opinions within are my own!
Harlow is new to Mistletoe, Maine as Maine has offered to pay for her student debt in exchange for working 1 year at Paws, a veterinary spot in town.
On her first day in Maine, her car slides off the road and into the guard rail where her car where a good looking man named Nick saves her from falling off the cliff with her car.
It was as if they were meant to be in each other’s lives as they keep bumming into each other. While there’s chemistry between the two, Nick is a single dad who isn’t really ready to start dating again while Harlow is only in town for a year, so she definitely doesn’t want to start anything up.
How do the two deal with their chemistry and their conflicting situations?
This book was really cute and while the main story line was predictable, the smaller stories in the book were not, which made it fun to read. The character development was there, but in the beginning of the book, I felt like the facts were repeated a lot that it was unnecessary details to keep repeating. I also thought some of the dialogue was awkward and not natural. Nick’s son, Malcolm, is 9 years old, but he talked like he was 19 years old at times.
Harlow Jones is a veterinarian and has come to Mistletoe Maine for one reason and one reason only. To pay off her student debts as quickly as she can so she can return to her life in Seattle. Things are going according to plan until Harlow finds herself immersed in small town living and the lives of its residents, especially Nick Keegan and his adorable son. Harlow keeps reminding herself to stick with her goal, but it becomes harder each day to focus on the real reason she is in town. Nick is determined to show Harlow she can have it all, but will he succeed before it’s too late?
Belle Calhoune brings us another delightful contemporary romance in the Mistletoe Maine series with Harlow and Nicks story. The book is about new beginnings, loss and second chances. I loved the characters right from the beginning of the story and could not resist cheering for Harlow and Nick to end up together. Who doesn’t like a happily ever after! Forever Publishing so graciously gifted me a copy of the book, which I read and reviewed voluntarily, so thank you Forever. Friends, come stop by Mistletoe Maine and meet some new wonderful friends.
Harlow is a young veterinarian assigned a clinic in Maine for just for a year in order to pay off her student loans. A rescue just outside of Mistletoe, Maine results in an attraction that is decidedly difficult to ignore. I enjoyed the sweet and clean content as well as the fictional locale that sounds amazing. The characters were well developed and likeable, as there are a variety of friends that join Harlow’s inner circle. This novel is sweet, a little sappy and contains some swoony kisses. I have read and thoroughly enjoyed a few of Belle Calhoune’s novels and Falling for Alaska, Moose Falls, Alaska Book one is my favorite so far. She has a very generous backlist that I am slowly making my way through. I borrowed a copy of this book from my local public library and I was not required to write a positive review.
