A legendary warrior. A mythical city. An impossible choice.
Harry Fox now finds himself allied with the very people who tried to lock him away. An uneasy alliance with authorities who combat artifacts trafficking gives Harry a chance to seek the one answer that has eluded him: the truth behind his murdered father's mysterious amulet .
Yet this search will soon thrust him into danger again. A brazen heist while following the amulets path reveals an incredible relic tied to one of history's greatest warriors - Achilles. When the authorities force Harry to choose between chasing his destiny or helping them recover this enchanting Greek artifact, Harry is plunged into a battle against a familiar foe, a battle in which failure will destroy not only Harry, but everyone he cares for.
Can Harry survive to discover the truth behind Greece's mythical hero, or will this perilous adventure prove to be his final mistake?
Andrew Clawson is from Pennsylvania and fervently hopes the Pirates win a World Series in his lifetime.
He is currently writing two series.
The Harry Fox archaeological adventure series involves a Pakistani-American who chases artifacts for the Italian mob. He’s a man caught between two worlds, uncovering history’s greatest treasures while carving out his place in the world.
The Parker Chase series follows a daring banker who unravels forgotten historical mysteries while outpacing modern villains intent on using the past for their own nefarious purposes.
The TURN novels reveal the exploits of a former American big-game hunter turned conservationist who battles to save his adopted African homeland from being ripped apart by greed and violence.
Andrew lives near Pittsburgh with his wife, two young children and a rescued black cat.
"The Achilles Legend" is an action-packed adventure that takes listeners on a thrilling journey through myth and legend. Narrated by John Pirhalla, this audiobook is the 4th installment in the Harry Fox series, and it delivers the same high-stakes suspense and fast-paced action that fans have come to expect from author Andrew Clawson.
The story follows Harry Fox, a seasoned adventurer who finds himself allied with former enemies in a quest to uncover a mythical city and protect a legendary warrior. With danger at every turn, Harry must use all his skills and experience to overcome impossible odds and make an impossible choice.
John Pirhalla delivers a captivating performance, bringing Harry Fox and the other characters to life with his expert pacing and engaging voice. His narration adds depth and excitement to the story, making the action scenes even more thrilling and the emotional moments more poignant.
One of the strengths of "The Achilles Legend" is its seamless blending of myth and legend with modern-day action and adventure. The story raises thought-provoking questions about the nature of heroism and the cost of power, while also delivering non-stop action and suspense.
The plot is filled with unexpected twists and turns, making it difficult for listeners to put the audiobook down. While some may find the story formulaic, the well-developed characters and expert narration more than make up for it.
Overall, "The Achilles Legend" is a thrilling adventure that will leave listeners on the edge of their seats. With its engaging characters, expert narration, and heart-pounding action, it's an audiobook that's not to be missed. I highly recommend it to fans of action and adventure stories, as well as those who enjoy a good dose of myth and legend.
This book was an interesting read. I had not read anything written by Andrew Clawson, so the book was an introduction to the Harry Fox series and to the author. Here are some positive observations about the book: 1. The author has a talent in writing action scenes and has put together an interesting and complex story. In fact, there are multiple stories within the book that seem to be taking place at the same time, which keep the reader engaged. 2. The background information for this historical fiction book has been adequately researched. The author has incorporated the historical information into the story in a way that is respectful to the reader and does not preach; the facts are part of the story. 3. The characters are unique and complex, with good and bad aspects to their personalities and backgrounds. Sometimes the “heroes” make mistakes in their judgements and motives, which make them seem real and not stereotypes. 4. I appreciate that there are no supernatural events that take place. There are mysterious puzzles, codes, explorations, secret hidden places, and traps. The heroes must navigate these challenges toward lost relics by using their own wits and physical strength; the heroes suffer consequences for their risks and errors, all while being chased by a network of Russians who are try to outwit them to steal the relics. 5. I also appreciate that there was no offensive language. The author discretely writes that someone curses and leaves it up to the reader’s imagination. This way there is nothing to distract from the story. There are some hugs of close friends and colleagues, but no sex scenes, so this I also appreciated. Young adults who were interested in the topic could read the book, maybe even those as young as twelve. To fully comprehend what is happening, if would help to know a little about ancient Egyptian history, Roman and Greek gods, Russians, and the Mafia! (Hey read the book, I’m not going to spoil it). There are adults who smoke and engage in social drinking. Story Locations: [England: Windsor, London; New York City: Brooklyn, Manhattan; Turkey: Canakkale, Istanbul; Greece: Sparta, Pella, Athens, Litochoro, Mount Olympus; Egypt: Luxor, Giza, Cairo; Lebanon: Beirut] Can the book be read as a standalone novel? I would be a person to know. Yes, I was able to read it without having read the previous books. I did get the feeling that I was missing some back stories, but as I kept reading some of my questions were answered. I do think that I would want to go back and read the first books, because I am now interested in the characters and what they were doing before I met them. The story does have a twist at the end and an ending that did not leave me hanging. However, it’s like reading a mystery series; I was left with the knowledge that there will be continuing adventures for Harry Fox. Improvements could be made to the book. The author has an authentic and unique style of writing. Some editing could assist in the book being easier to read. There are no misspelled words. I would have liked more in it about the Achilles Legend. I did look up something about it on my own (which is good because it shows that I got interested in the topic). I received an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) for my honest review of the book.
The best Harry Fox adventure yet! Relic hunter Harry Fox takes you on an adventure in ancient Greece that will leave you breathless. Following clues left eons ago, Harry must rely on his wits and knowledge of ancient civilizations to locate the mysterious artifact before mercenaries sent from a rival collector, who will stop at nothing to get it. Who finds the artifact and what this means for Harry will leave you eager for the next Harry Fox adventure.
Such a fan of this series. The mix of history, legend, myths and mystery combine together to keep you turning the pages. I stumbled upon Andrew Clawson and the Parker Chase series. Loved it and when he added Harry to my library I was hooked. Keep them coming. My wife’s now reading them all and thoroughly enjoying the stories.
I have enjoyed all of the Harry Fox books so far, but I must say this is my favorite so far. I consider myself a fan of ancient history. So this one was right up my alley. As always, I enjoy the author’s revealing of what are true historical facts and what are solely from his imagination. For anyone interested, these books would be better read in order. Also, they are relatively clean.
I received this novel from the author in return for an honest review (one of the perks of being part of his ARC team).
This book is the next chapter in the Harry Fox series where the author manages to interweave Egyptian Greek and Roman history along with his character as he searches for ancient relics.
As I am a major history afficiendo I found the tale to be quite intriguing and believe that it would be a favourite for any reader who enjoys seeing how the history of three distinct civilizations are interwoven.
That said, i would easily rate this novel a solid four stars out of five.
As with all reviews, this is just my five cents worth.
Harry Fox and his cast of relic-chasers, mobsters, villains, and museum-grade chaos are back in...
THE ACHILLES LEGEND “This time, the ancient gods are watching.”
THE MACGUFFIN(S): Because why stop at one?
A Greek statue mysteriously stolen from a tomb cave in Turkey, an incredible relic tied to one of history's greatest warriors - Achilles.
An amulet from Harry’s past with disturbing new secrets—and maybe a direct link to his mother
Just when Harry Fox thinks he’s found a quiet moment to research his mother's mysterious past and the creepy-cool amulet she left behind, BOOM!......Agent Nora Doyle crashes back into his life, with the details of a priceless Greek statue looted from a tomb in Turkey.
Solution? Two quests. One novel. Split the party.
Harry and Nora follow a trail to Sparta, Greece, chasing something called the Koraki Prize—which, spoiler alert, is NOT a bottle of olive oil.
Sara Hamed heads to Luxor, Egypt, to investigate a cryptic link between the amulet and... whatever Egyptian secrets are inevitably guarded by curses, and of course related to Mark Antony and Cleopatra.
Meanwhile, the villain? Meet Evgeny Smolov: Russian billionaire, amateur relic collector, and professional megalomaniac. Has yachts and helicopters. Has guards. Has zero interest in sharing. As well as the scary Rafiq Pasha, if Stefan is frightened of him, then we all should be.
STORY LOCATIONS (let's hope Harry, Nora and Sara have frequent flyer points ) England – Windsor & London: posh, rain, and even more rain.
New York City – Brooklyn & Manhattan: where the coffee’s strong and the mob is stronger.
Turkey – Canakkale (Troy) & Istanbul: ancient ruins, shady caves.
Greece – Sparta, Pella, Athens, Litochoro, Mount Olympus: warriors, ruins, and possibly some aggressive goats.
Egypt – Luxor, Giza, Cairo: where secrets live in the sand, and Sara just wants a guide who doesn’t disappear, leaving her hanging.
Lebanon – Beirut: Mediterranean flair, hidden clues, but no hummus.
Clawson doubles down on what he does best, tight historical intrigue, action-packed pacing, and a cast that balances brains, bullets, "good" and "bad" characters. The Achilles Legend is sharp, smart, and surprisingly poignant, weaving Homeric lore into modern geopolitics.
There are chases. There are betrayals. There are relics that maybe shouldn’t be touched without gloves or a will.
From the very first sentence, Harry Fox is in a perilous position that could cost him his life. He’s so close to obtaining a priceless Egyptian artifact that will help explain the mystery of the amulet he wears around his neck and even closer to being caught be the world’s most wealthy and powerful man. Typical Harry Fox, just another day at the office.
Andrew Clawson has once again allowed his readers to travel around the world from London, to Greece, to Turkey and Egypt. Did I mention the mountain climbing and sword fights with a trident, or climbing on top of Egyptian statues looking for clues in the search for answers to ancient riddles that lead to more artifacts? There is so much adventure in this book you don’t notice all the fun historical things you will learn with Harry. Clawson keeps the pages turning with intriguing dialogue and completely unexpected surprises that make you wonder if Harry is up to the challenge to secure Achilles treasured artifacts.
This is book four in the series and book five, The Pagan Hammer will come out next year. But the way things go for Harry Fox, I’m not sure he will live long enough to star in another book especially with the last plot twist Harry has to survive.
Buy it, borrow it, beg for it, go to the library and read it, you’ll be glad you did. Then make sure you have read all the others in the series too. Clawson has others historical series available so you’ll have something else to read while waiting for the next Harry Fox adventure.
Harry has found new, disturbing information about his mother and he and Sara want to dig farther into the background of the amulet. Then Nora shows up wanting help with a case involving a Greek statue stolen from a cave tomb in Turkey.
Two quests so Harry and Sara spilt up. Harry going to Sparta, Greece to follow the trail of the Koraki prize and Sara going to Luxor, Egypt to check out a clue to the secret of Harry’s amulet.
Footnote: 1) If Evgeny doesn’t want anyone to steal his artifacts, why would do something so dumb as make an obstacle course way to get to them. That’s stupid.
2) Harry needs to get a longer chain or something so his amulet doesn’t keep falling out of his shirt.
3) It bugs me how terrorist a have to have revenge when the other side defends themselves. What do they expect? That their victims just sit and let themselves be killed? If they weren’t terrorists in the first place, they wouldn’t be in danger. They started it.
Fave scenes: the amethyst, Sara climbing the statue, the wooden pole trap and Harry & Sara escaping from the final treasure cave.
I have read each of the first 4 books in this excellent series. This is by far and away the best book in the series. It builds on the storylines involving the main character, Harry Fox, that the author has developed thru the first 3 books, and moves those storylines forward. The book also works well on its own, as the story of the Achilles legend is so well told, and really a fun read for anyone who has an interest in history and archeology, as I do.
I am also a fan of Indiana Jones, as well as the Uncharted and Tomb Raider video games. The archeology and clever riddles in this book are so well done, and remind me very much of what I loved about those games and movies.
I do recommend reading the first 3 books in this series before this one, as this book will make more sense if you do, since there are many references to things that occurred in the other books, as well as storylines that carry over.
Overall, a tremendous book without a doubt. I have to say that I have read many archeological thrillers, and this is one of the very best I have ever read.
This is by far the best book in the series so far (I always seem to say that) and with two storylines going on simultaneously in it, the book is hard to put down. I love the way Andrew blends historic fact to the fictional storyline. I especially enjoy learning more about Harry, Sara and Nora and seeing their characters develop in the series. As Harry goes off in search of the ancient artifact, Sara heads to Egypt to search for more information on Harry's amulet. Both have to solve riddles and clues to find what they are looking for as a wrong turn or wrong answer could cost them their lives. If you love Indiana Jones type action and adventure then this series is for you. This book has you hooked after turning just a handful of pages.
I am part of the Advance Reading Team for Andrew Clawson and get an advance copy of the book in return for leaving an honest review.
This will keep you on the edge of your seat! One mystery after another as together with Nora they set out to solve 2 mysteries and well find The pesky Mid=Eastern mob that is trying to stop the head of the mobs, the Hard but loyal Morelli's who united all the mobs in New York and put a stop the wars between mobs making New York a, safer place for nearly a quarter of a century. So Harry again sets off to find the ancient unfounded treasures he sells to the highest bidders and works with the New York art police to find anc restore famous art. One mystery is still 7ndolved and I can hardly wait for the next book to find out what Harry's big secret, the amulet he'd inherited from his mother's family.
Nooooo I need to wait until next year for the next Harry Fox book. Another fantastic story from this series. Highly recommend these books and advise you to start from the beginning. The author gives you stories within stories which draws you into the adventure along with the star Harry. He is such a likeable and interesting character. A lot of research has gone into these books and the author uses this as a basis and turns them into adventures that span the globe. Superbly written, great characters and a story to keep you turning the pages.
Received as ARC. The story begins with Harry dodging traps in an Indiana Jones type tunnel. He eventually steals a crown from the collection of Russian mega rich Evgeny Smolov. The resulting adventures make up a g=fantastic book. Great characters as always. Harry and Sara continue following clues to find the meaning of his amulet. However, they are split up when Harry has to look for objects for policewoman Nora Doyle. Their separate storys are well developed, with a surprise ending.
From New York to Europe, to Greece, to Istanbul, to Alexandria, and the Pyramids. Throw in the previously introduced villain from a rival family, and add a wealthy Russian ex-pat collector. Plus all the usual Harry Fox narrow escapes. And two formidable lady scholarly bad-a#$ es and you have this latest book in a nutshell. Of course, there is more: much, much more! But now you must read this excellent book! A++ Bravo!!
Each book just gets more and more exciting. Harry Fox is a great character with multiple layers of intrigue to keep you wanting more. I love the conflict between playing 'both sides' - the legal and not-so legal - a fine tight-rope indeed. It's a great adventure series that has me searching all the locations Harry's adventures take him offering a wonderful dive into the world of ancient cultures. Can't wait to start Book 5!
Can’t seem to get enough of Harry Fox’s adventures. The Achilles Legend is a wonderful adventure through Ancient Greek legends and also Egyptian. Trying to do two separate searches, one for himself and the other for a famous relic, Harry depends on his friend Sara to help him. Their adventures will leave you mesmerized and itching for more.
Book 4 of the series. Gets better all the time. The author’s notes at the end also make for good reading and show he has done his due diligence and more. If you’ve read a lot of archaeological thrillers, you can predict the plot in general, but it’s always interesting to see how he gets Harry out his latest predicament. Good series.
I’ve enjoyed all the Harry Fox books. They are exciting and grab your attention. I love the historical descriptions. I’ve been to Egypt and Turkey and other countries that Mr.Clawson writes about. He reawakens great memories that I have of those places and makes them live for me again. I can’t wait to read the rest of his books.
I've read all 4 of these books - I believe there are more to come.
A lot of chase scenes and escapes from ancient vaults and crypts. These can get kind of boring after a while, but nether-the-less, I like these books. I am entertained, I pick-up a little geography on the way, re-learn a little Greek, Roman, and Egyptian Mythology, so all is good.
A good story though I’m getting tired of the ancient traps that still work some 2000+ years later. This is the second series that channels Indiana Jones which leaves you searching for some originality.. I find this an escape and the intertwining stories keep pulling you along as new characters move in and out. On to the next one.
Harry and Sara creep thru crypts to, once again, learn more about the history and meaning of his amulet... Finding other treasures and alliances along the way. Another good read.
Loved it. Such a story I couldn’t put it down. Harry Fox is such a great character and the historical ride through the ages is absolutely captivating , with enough action to keep you turning pages. Can’t wIt for book 3
Historical link with main plot Good characters Good descriptions of different countries. Interesting mix of good and bad characters, both male and female.
I enjoyed this adventure of Harry’s. It’s a little predictable in that he always wins but I still enjoy the chase. I also love the historical information throughout the book. Keeps me hooked.
Ancient history, the likes you have never heard before!
I loved the concept of the past being interpreted with the modern human egos. There is mystery, thrills, an undercurrent of love and protection for what matters most. Can not wait for the next journey to begin!
Everyone of the four Harry Fox books have been fascinating to read if you love the treasure hunters experience. Page after page has you feeling you are walking along side Harry and his quest.
These books are so good! Full of history, twists and turns, a little romance, and well written and well edited, too. I was hoping this wouldn't be the last in the series and it's not. Yay!!
Sara and Harry have great tales to tell after there adventures two stories twice the thrill if you enjoy adventure close your eyes and picture the ride that’s is once you have read this book recommended
