Because when the guy answered the door to tip me, my wolf took over.
And now I'm hunting him.
I thought my first mate was bad enough. My wolf rejected him after he hit me, and I was more glad than I can ever say. Especially when I found out a few weeks later that I was pregnant.
But things are more complicated this time.
Now, my toddler is involved... and being taken-care-of by the guy my wolf is hunting, who clearly doesn't know what to do with a little boy. But he's trying, and he's kind, which is a lot more than I can say about the jerk who got me pregnant.
The last thing I wanted was to do this mating thing all over again... but now that I'm here, I'm starting to wonder if maybe fate doesn't get everything wrong.
Hi, I’m Lola! I’m a book lover with a *slight* romance obsession. My books are all steamy romantic fantasy or paranormal romance, and there is always a happily ever after.

Liz and Elliot are so cute. Their relationship is build on trust, respect and communication and I had so much fun reading it. I still wish we'd actually get to "see" certain plot points instead of being told about them in a few sentences.
The books in this series all are on the shorter side and I can see how someone looking for plot-driven books might not enjoy this, but if you like paranormal romance, fated mates and cozy, low angst stories this might be for you.
Loved the combined hunt/chase and Elliot getting an instant family from being hunted by one who had rejected her first mate (who had bitten then hurt her) and who came with a son (from her first mating). Elliot is such a calm and protective alpha and I really enjoyed reading how he adapts his life to look after his new mate’s son (who is already shifting himself) while she is stuck in Wolf shape hunting him; then how they work together to make their new situation work best. It was also great to meet Lizzie’s room mate Sab, who’s hoping to find a werewolf who will claim her as his mate, and how she’s welcomed into the pack as she also helps with Evan, Lizzie’s son. Two very different characters but good friends. This book is written from both the view point of Elliot (the Wolf being hunted) and Liz (hunting/chasing her second mate) and I loved seeing it from both their views, particularly as Elliot had expected to be the one to hunt and Liz didn’t expect to find another mate after her first, bad experience, and due to this isn’t sure how she feels about her Wolf finding another (better) soulmate.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
TW: discussions of domestic violence, abusive parents
Note: I am on the alpha team for Lola (this means I get the book as it is written and volunteer feedback) and am an arc member.
I've really enjoyed all of this series but I think this one is my favourite! It is so nice to see the 'Alpha' trope subverted as well as really great depictions of step-dads and healthy parenting. Unlike in the previous books where the male hunts the female, in this the female alpha Lizzy hunts Elliot-- the alpha to the pack we've been involved with since the beginning of the series.
Elliot's struggle through temporary single parenthood is enjoyable and the relationship he builds with both Lizzy and her son Evan is a genuine delight. Elliot is totally happy to be thrust into a family with a small child and we so rarely see positive depictions of alphas (or even fathers!). Lizzy is also a delight and the dual POV really shapes the narrative nicely.
This is the fifth book of the Mate Hunt series, and I personally DO NOT CONSIDER this to be a STAND-ALONE read. I HIGHLY recommend these be read in series order, as they contain multiple reoccurring characters, consecutive timelines (begins as soon as the previous one ended), and interwoven themes so a lot of details that occurred previously would be lost, as they cannot be adequately explained within another story.
— If you have not read any of the stories in this series, the following will contain spoilers, but hopefully only enough to adequately explain my opinions, questions, etc. about the story. —
⛔️ There are a couple of potential triggers for sensitive readers, such as adult language, semi-steamy intimate scenes, mental health challenges of depression, anxiety, etc., and references to violence (not between the H/h) such as rape, fighting, threats, assault, murder (self-defense), etc.
Lola Glass has created an unique origin story for werewolves that resulted in two separate beings in a shared body. When the wolf is in charge the human can see what is happening, but cannot communicate, or control, the animal that will act on instinct. Because of how werewolves evolved, only males are born, so when the wolf finds its mate, the reaction is immediate and that starts a 3 phase ritual: Hunt, Chase and Climax. This is what necessitates the kidnapping of the human female for most of them, as the wolf will not shift back until he marks his chosen mate.
For a PNR especially, I consider these to be really clean. There isn’t any fighting or killing between packs — they don’t even have pack names, just references to ‘packs’ formed by age within the group at large — the intimate scenes still aren’t very detailed, but they aren’t ‘fade-aways’ either.
For me to rate this 5 ⭐️s, I need more, more, more (sorry, doing my toddler impersonation — very badly), including physical details around the characters and information about the universe (I.e. Moon River). There also needs to be more details added to resolve all aspects of the story, such as what happened with her parents … Did they resolve their issues, become a part of their lives, purchase a home in (or near) Moon River?
Previous reviews mention timeline gaps and/or holes. I didn’t have that issue, so maybe there was an edit. What I did find awkward was the way the cliffhanger was handled to introduce the next story before it cut away to an epilogue two plus years in the future. I understand why, but it still read weird.
This story begins with a slight overlap from the previous to see the mating triggered from Elizabeth’s POV, aka Liz and Lizzy. With the exception of a couple epilogues, this is the first time we have had dual POVs 👍❤️👏! Hopefully it won’t be the last as imo it helps bring the story to life.
Lola continues to change up the 3 phase ritual and how it happens. The previous stories all featured the Chase happening when the male’s werewolf found their mate. In this story though it happens to a female werewolf that rejected her previous mate … There is a little bit more violence in this story, but it is still not what I would define as dark. Maybe this is because of the humor, easy going nature of Elliot, and the total cuteness of Evan, aka Ev.
I mention the following for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow. There are only a few punctuation issues with commas, and an incorrect word tense. I didn’t document all of punctuation issues, just the ones that annoyed me the most tbh, but there are a lot less than in the previous stories. I uploaded my notes to goodreads for anyone interested.
Tested by the Alpha is the fifth installment in the Mate Hunt series written by Lola Glass. This book is part of an interconnected series but can be read as a standalone. This fated mate paranormal romance is a slow-burn fated mate story.
Lizzy Kaen is struggling to make ends meet as a single mom to her 2-year-old son, Evan, and working three different jobs. She has sworn off men after her fated mate claimed her but became abusive. Her wolf rejected him but not before he impregnated her. Lizzy is disowned by her wealthy parents and has to sacrifice to survive. Luckily, she has a couple of friends in her corner that helped her get back on her feet when Ev was born. Fate surprises Lizzy with another fated mate during her side-gig delivering food to make extra cash.
Elliot is a very likable character. He is a gentleman, always cheerful, and a calming presence. I’m so glad we finally got his book! Elliot wanted to find his fated mate and could never imagine the woman would be hunting him (usually the men hunt the women) or that she would have a toddler. Luckily, Elliot is a natural and does very well caring for Ev while Lizzy is in wolf form. Elliot is so patient and kind. He doesn’t get angry or frustrated with Ev which is extremely important to Lizzy. He even gives her much needed space to allow a romantic relationship to form between the two of them.
Overall, this was a super sweet book. Elliot is swoon-worthy and I am so glad he found his happily-ever-after!
Tropes: Fated mates, friends-to-lovers, slow burn, rejected mates, second chances, werewolf shifters, virgin hero, happily-ever-after, single mom Heat: 2/5
The Mate Hunt books are such a cool series where each book follows a different couple but their stories are all intertwined as the boys are all a pack.
I liked how this story flipped the usual and a female became the hunter after she'd previously rejected her first mate.
Liz is just trying to make enough money to support her and her 2 year old son working a few different jobs one of them delivering food and so when Elliot meets her it sends Liz's wolf into the hunt. Elliot is then tasked with looking after her son Evan as part of his test to prove to her wolf he's worthy of her bite. Liz's has a tough past with a mate who abused her causing her wolf to reject him and then when she found out she was pregnant her family disowned her. She's hesitant to give her heart to someone again but Elliots sweet and patient nature makes it hard for her not to. Elliot has no family besides his pack after his parents died when he was a teenager but with Liz he gets everything he's ever wanted. Liz gets her second chance and Elliot gets an instant family.
Liz and Elliot’s story is awesome! Elliot is the alpha ‘papa’ wolf of his pack. Always there for everyone, easy going and loving. Liz was already a wolf when they met, but she had rejected the wolf that turned her because he was abusive and tried to hurt her son. She has struggled in the years since to support her son after her mates pack rejected her and her own parents disowned her, going down far as to drain the trust fund. Liz is used to going it alone and after the disaster with her ex-mate she is determined to be done with relationships. Then she meets Elliot and HER wolf takes over and chooses to ‘hunt him’ for a month. Forcing Elliot to take care of Evan while her wolf watches how well he adapts to his new insta-dad status. Which Elliot does perfectly. Despite having good reasons to distrust men, and alpha’s in general, Liz quickly comes to accept Elliot and his close knit pack and the happiness and stability Elliot so effortlessly provides.
This was such a cute and relaxing read. I found the characters to be simple but well done. It’s obviously that the author, at this point, knows how to demonstrate the frustration that comes with tough situations and bend that towards a characters personality. I loved how Liz had a strong personality that can come with being a single mother. She seemed to know how to deal with her trauma and trust her instincts when she was dealing with people and situations. I found her to be entirely relatable female character. I can’t speak for the male(Elliot) too much, but he was ideal. I could see how, if you grow up with the knowledge that you’ll meet a stranger and they’ll be your soulmate, someone could feel the way he does. It was an easy read for me over all. This isn’t a book I would reread even though I enjoyed it. The plot and overall story is simple and basic. While I enjoyed the way the author had her own spin on the world of werewolves, I just think it needed a stronger plot and writing in order to perfect it.

This book was such a change of pace from the other ones and I loved it. Elliot and Liz were so wholesome and sweet. I loved the addition of a baby to this story. Ev was freaking adorable and hilarious. I loved the progression of their relationship and I also really loved how Liz wasn’t so anti Elliot unlike June with Zed. This book was enjoyable and I read it crazy fast but I didn’t find it as addicting as the other books. I enjoyed this story and I love Elliot and Liz but it was a tad boring in certain places. Boring is the wrong word but it just wasn’t as thrilling as the other books. I also wanted to delve deeper into Liz’s past with SD and what he did to her. But otherwise I did really enjoy this story and it was nice to see the female hunting. I cannot wait to read Dax’s story though as well as Ryder’s! Tea and Jesse still hold my number one spot and I don’t think anyone is going to top it. Rocco and Del are my second favourite and then Elliot and Liz are my third. 3,75 stars!
Tested by the Alpha y Lola Glass. Book 5 of Mate Hunt. All it took was one dang food delivery order... Brilliant read. Love this series. I loved how Elliot and Lizzy were. I hope there's more to come. 5*.
Lola is at it again! This book is different than the rest and it is so good. I love Liz. She has been through so much and has persevered. Elliot has always been steadfast, calm and supportive. It was fun reading about him learning to be a dad while Liz’s wolf hunted. There were a couple of plot wholes with timing like it was after dinner but then they were going to lunch and they went out for dinner but were then doing the dishes. They didn’t affect the story overall but were a bit confusing. Also, Lola has written about trauma in several of her past books and she does it so well. My problem here is that we are left guessing. She tells Elliot what happened to her but as the reader you are left to fill in the blanks. I don’t need graphics by any means but I prefer not to have to guess about major events that affect character development. This is a great story. Read it! I can’t wait for the next!
Couple: Elliot and Lizzy Plan to re-read: Maybe Thoughts: I liked that this installment was Lizzy's would picking Elliot as her mate first. I also really liked that there was a werewolf toddler. Those moments were very cute. It was kind of silly that the author gave Lizzy this big traumatic backstory with her first mate but doesn't really expand on the attack that made Lizzy's wolf reject him or when Lizzy had to kill him. It all felt very shallow. This book also felt more repetitive than some of the others in the series. I was also super confused as to why Sabrina and Lizzy got Charly to give them the number of the woman who rejected Ryder. I really don't understand their instant sympathy for her when they haven't met her but Charly has but they don't believe Charly when she says the woman is a bitch. FMC ends up pregnant: Not in the main story but in the epilogue Lizzy is pregnant.
Binging this series was a mistake but it's too late to stop now.

Fmc has brutal past experience with past “mate” and author decided to add trauma in but treat readers like children and basically she spills it to MMC but never discloses much to the reader. I get some people don’t wanna read these details but then either don’t add an fmc with all this trauma who actually shares it with MMC and makes a point of being kike it’s important and then tell the reader nothing. Listen the author could’ve just simply marked a particular section in a particular way that allowed reader to skip those pages or even added those pages at the end of the book which I’ve seen authors do. Don’t just not do anything.
I liked the mmc with the child and how that was shown! So I’ll give it a 3.5 stars but this is a pretty basic series. Idk why I read so many. They just increasingly pissed me off with how basic the MCs are and how basic the readers are treated.
Lizzy, the female lead, has been selected to be a male wolf’s mate before but she killed the abusive male after he attacked her and tried to kill their child. Both she and Elliot, the male lead, are stunned when her wolf claims Elliot as her mate. Whilst not averse to a helpmate, Lizzy never expected to have a romantic partner but Elliot is willing to work towards that…
This story is dual POV, well written, and a beautiful tale of love after leaving abuse. I appreciated the sensitivity the author brought to the subject matter, as well as Lizzy’s genuine resilience and perseverance prior to the story’s commencement. Elliot’s gentle kindness was gorgeous and exactly what Lizzy needed.

Lizzy and Elliot’s story is adorable! Lizzy Kaen has not had an easy time of things. Because her first mate turned out to be abusive, she rejected him before their mating was complete. Then her family kicked her out and left her fend for herself.
Elliot is the alpha wolf of the pack and his sweet, kind, patient disposition will melt anyone’s heart. When Lizzy was making a food delivery, her wolf went crazy over Elliot. Now she will check out his behavior for a month as he cares for her 2-year-old son, Evan, and she will decide whether he is an acceptable mate and father for her child. Will she end up accepting Elliot? Will he pass her “test” so they can become mates?
Lizzie is a single mom raising her son on her own. She is working several jobs just to be able to provide certain things a growing wolf needs. She is delivering food to a home when everything changes for her. When Elliot opens the door a cell phones come at him and a sexy woman mutter mate before shifting into a wolf. Her son shifts right after her. He brings them inside stunned that he finally has a mate. Will Lizzie be able to accept what her wolf wants? Can they get their happy ending?
This is an amazing story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. This author has reached my must-read author list. It's a book any book lover would enjoy.

If you need a swoon worthy male character that gives you butterflies Elliot is it! I adore this couple so much and how they work together to make this story enjoyable. While Lizzy is in her wolf hunting phase she’s skeptical about another mating process since she had a bad experience with her ex. But Elliot slowly wins her heart as he is patient and loving towards her and her son Evan the whole time when he was able to care for Evan himself. I love the way the author has all these characters interact and the familial way they are towards one another made the story that much more warmer than it already is.

I genuinely thought this series had peaked. Not in a bad way but after writing 4 witty clever swoon worthy and funny books that all have a sprinkle of magic, how far else can you go up? Well here it is. This book is such a wonderful addition to the series and the change in approach and dynamic is incredibly. I not only recommend you read this book, I demand it and everything else by Lola Glass for good measure. She is a phenomenal writer who manages to make light hearted romance and dramatic fantasy all so charming and addictive I find myself reading them over and over again.
3.5 stars This one was a little differeent from the first 4 stories where the male werewolf identifies the human woman as his mate and pursues her until they live happily ever after. Our heroine in this story Lizzy is already a werewolf having been bitten by her previous mate and sperm donor who apparently was a masochistic, violent asshole whom she ended up killing to protect herself and their son Evan. She sees Elliott and its her eyes that go red as she claims him as her mate and goes furry. But after her previous experience with an alpha werewolf the struggling single mom wants no part of her supposed soulmate. Fortunately Elliott is the kindness most patient member of his pack. Like his fellow packmates who eventually won the hearts of their now mates he gradually non aggressively wins Lizzy's heart.
Elizabeth, Lizzy or Liz is a dance instructor working two other jobs so that she can provide for her son Evan. She has not had an easy life since she got pregnant by a werewolf who used to beat her and a set of parents who left her to her own demise when she refused to abort her pregnancy. They went as far as to cut her off totally from the trust fund left her by her grandmother. The result, swearing off men.
Elliot is the pack Alpha , who always sees the positive in any situation.
In his current position as Alpha, he has helped members of his pack with the hunt, chase and climax phases of the werewolf mating ritual and even in the case of a werewolf who has been rejected by his mate and is about to lose his mind.
He has never been confronted with a situation where the hunter is a female werewolf and the male is the one being hunted without forgetting that the huntress has a 2 years old baby boy.
That is just what happens when Liz makes a delivery at his house, starts shifting with her eyes becoming red and cries "Mate".
This is Lizzy's, Evan and Elliot's story and it is worth reading with, again it's powerful message about reconstituted families.
I discovered this author not so long ago through books she wrote and sort of fell under her spell. She has a special way to creating stories about the paranormal with the main characters engaging in dialogs with a funny attitude under the worst circumstances and using sass and witt that made this reader laugh at certain moments during my reading this story, while also keying up my interest in the plot as well as reactions from all the characters the author uses in her story.
The book turned into a page turner that I highly recommend with a rating of 5 Stars. If I could give it ten stars, I would.
Single mom wolf, fated mates, MC is a virgin, wolf pack, cute adorable baby wolf boy going thru terrible twos, huge family.....
I loved this one...Elliott is just a great character. Already like a dad in the books so far, he is watching over everyone in the pack. This book was interesting that it turned the tables, Liz was doing the hunting and trapped as a wolf while she watched Elliott take care of Evan, her 2 yr old wild animal.. And Elliott was left taking the role of how the human would be..I liked that they were both wolves and it brought a little twist to how things have been in books 1-4.
Tested by the Alpha (Mate Hunt number five) by Lola Glass is the fifth book in her Mate Hunt series. This book was about Elliot and Liz and Evan. Lizzy has had a hard start at becoming a werewolf. An abusive mate found her and life became hard for the women. Being a single mom, she worked her tail off to survive. Then a chance delivery to a certain Alphas house - second chance at a mate. Great story. I love how the pack comes together and helps each other. I love that Elliot is NOT your typical Alpha. He's just what Liz and Evan need. HEA guaranteed. Looking forward to the next book.
Lizzy thought she had a mate but was abusive so her wolf denied it, found out she was pregnant and parents disowned her and took her trust fund left by her grandmother. He found her was going to kill their baby but her wolf took care of him, had to work 3 jobs to keep food for her little one. She went to deliver food at Elliott’s house her wolf saw him and took over he had to prove to her that he was great with her son and accepted him. Good book!.

Enjoyed this book, told from a dual POV. Liz Is a single mum working hard to support herself and her toddler. Liz meets Elliot and it sets off her wolf instincts and she starts to hunt him. Having been hurt previous relationships, liz is understandably hesitant to pursue a new one. Elliot has to work hard to be a worthy mate to Liz, he has his own background story and is sweet, patient and kind to Liz whilst they navigate their feelings for each other. Sweet story.

This one melts your heart. The role reversal of the strong alpha female taking the hunting lead was great to read and it was awesome to see the male alpha step up and into a caring role for the Mama wolfs little toddler and prove his worth by his actions and thoughtfulness. It was wonderful to see him learn and cope as well, as the bumbling male usually depicted in these scenarios doesn’t represent every man. It’s a great take on a single parent family in this wolf world and a twist on what and how an alpha wolf is usually represented as.
I’ve loved this whole series, but this one is my favorite. I loved the switch to a woman hunting the man! It was a unique spin! I loved how Elliot just rolled with everything and fully accepted Liz for who she was, and became an instant dad to Evan. I love this take on alphas too. They’re the protective mom and dad of the pack, not this overly masculine tough guy like the traditional alpha types. This whole series has been so good, and each new couple has become my favorite. But these two really take the cake!! Go grab this one, you won’t regret it!!.
I’ve been addicted to this series and while they occasionally seem to be missing a detail or two this one simply ended. It’s like she got tired of the story and decided to just end it. And if you’re going to make the plot rely so heavily on someone like SD you need more detail. What happened with her parents? Then the restaurant scene and all hell breaks loose to its two years later? Terrible ending…or lack of an actual ending that completes the book. I’m debating if this book deserves a 3 or should be a two.
I really loved the first one in this series but they honestly are starting to get a bit boring. The repetitiveness doesn't even bother me that much. It just feels like so much LESS is happening in each book in the series.
I thought there was going to be some conflict in this one, considering Liz's past but alas. We didn't even get that many details on her past. Everything just resolved too quickly.
I am currently though committed to finishing this series so let's see if anything new comes with the last two.
4.5 stars- I loved this book and I think especially timeline wise this is one of Lola’s best books. Also I’m like 80% sure that Sabrina’s book callout was the From Blood and Ash series which I agree with so I’m very excited for her book next. My only complaint is that we didn’t get to have the classic Tea quote at the end about how it would be a real party if someone got mated and then they find their mate and she goes “now it’s a real party”. I’ve just been reading these books so quickly that I was like wait can they even become mates without Teagan making a joke about it
All I can say is wow!! This book was completely unexpected and amazing all at the same time. It was a completely different way for werewolves to mate, but I loved the originality of the concept. This book took the usual werewolf mating theme and dropped it on its head!! Way to go Lola Glass. I hope you write more books in this series as I cannot wait to read more.
