All I did was lock myself in the gas station's bathroom...
It seemed like the logical thing to do, considering the crappy way my date had gone, and the fact that said crappy date had tried to attack me.
But then my date broke the bathroom door down.
Luckily, a scarred, inked-up werewolf was there to save the day. He punched my date's lights out...
And then called me "mate" and started to hunt me.
Growing up in Moon Ridge, I'd always known that werewolves were real, but I hadn't expected to be mates with one; especially not the most jaded one in town.
No number of tattoos can hide his scars, both physical and emotional, but maybe I can help him heal them.

Nothing was perfect for us, or between us, but if this was our version of imperfection, I would pray for flaws every day of my fucking life.
4.5 stars!
This was my first novel by Lola Glass, and even though I felt a bit lost in this story at times, I'm so glad I picked this one up! I admit I was a bit put-off by the heroine's sarcastic narrating at first, but I quickly learned to love her quirky commentary and fearless attitude. Ryder was the epitome of a brooding, tragic hero (my kryptonite), and I loved how he slowly allowed himself to be vulnerable with Char after the hell he went through with Lisa. Ryder and Char weren't perfect together, but I loved how they continuously chose each other above all else while falling for each other. I highly recommend picking this one up, and this definitely won't be my last novel by Lola Glass♡
Tropes: virgin hero/heroine, fated mates, rejected mates, tragic past, found family, shifter/human pairing, mating fever, grumpy/sunshine, alpha j/p hero, OW drama (no cheating)
*ARC provided by the author via Booksprout, and I voluntarily reviewed it*
Ryder saves Charly from a bad date and in the process discovers she's his mate! Two problems with that: one, she's human, and two, he's already been rejected by his first mate.
“My wolf fucked up when he chose Lisa.” Ryder’s words were blunt. “You’re not his backup; you’re his redemption. I was dying yesterday, and today, I’m alive. And that’s because of you.”
Without Charly's acceptance he bites and turns her. She still tries to make things work with him but nowwww he refuses to have sex with her. Ryder's wolf comes to the forefront anytime he's, ahem, horny, and he's scared he'll hurt her.
There's action, humor, suspense, and spice throughout the entire book. A part or two is really heartbreaking, but that makes the romance sweeter. I really enjoyed reading this book. Four stars!
"Nothing was perfect for us, or between us, but if this was our version of imperfection, I would pray for flaws every day of my fucking life."
important bits: DUAL VIRGINS small age gap (he's 27 and she's younger by a few years) OW drama (ex-mate) no cheating (except one forced kiss from ex) safe HEA & epilogue ♡
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
You can always count on Lola Glass to write fun and quick reads. Her books are always low on angst, cute and steamy and on the shorter side. I always reach for her books when I need to just relax and relieve some stress. I’m sad the series is over, but it was such a fun ride.
These are all fun and relaxing, I love the ease of the world and plot. I’m sad the series is over but I will definitely be picking up the spinoff when I need another anxiety ease 🥰
❤️ Ryder and Char! Favorite of the series — Want more!!
This is the seventh book, and last planned as I understand it, of the Mate Hunt series. I personally DO NOT CONSIDER this to be a STAND-ALONE read. I HIGHLY recommend these be read in series order, as they contain multiple reoccurring characters, consecutive timelines (begins as soon as the previous one ended), and interwoven themes so a lot of details that occurred previously would be lost, as they cannot be adequately explained within another story.
— If you have not read any of the stories in this series, the following will contain spoilers, but hopefully only enough to adequately explain my opinions, questions, etc. about the story. —
⛔️ There are a couple of potential triggers for sensitive readers, such as adult language, steamy intimate scenes with elements of BDSM dominance, submission, restraints, etc., mental health challenges of depression, anxiety, etc., and violence such as attempted rape, fighting, threats, assault, murder / death, etc.
For a PNR especially, I consider this series overall to be on the lighter side and clean, but this story is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 — and I love it! Especially one scene that I wasn’t expecting involving his first mate, but so happy 😁 that it was, sorry not giving any spoilers on that one … Easily the best story of the series for me!! ❤️ Char and Ryder!!!
Lola Glass has created a unique origin story for 🐺 that resulted in two separate beings in a shared body. When the 🐺 is in charge the human can see what is happening, but cannot communicate, or control, the animal that will act on instinct. Because of how 🐺 evolved, only males are born, so when the 🐺 finds its mate, the reaction is immediate and that starts a 3 phase ritual: Hunt, Chase and Climax. This is what necessitates the kidnapping of the human female for most of them, as the 🐺 will not shift back until he marks his chosen mate.
A little background …
Lola continues to change up the 3 phase ritual and how it happens. Normally The Chase is triggered when the male’s 👀 first meet with his 🐺’s chosen female. Then it ends when the 🐺 bites his mate and that starts The Chase. It is very rare, but the female can reject him. When this happens the 🐺 will usually take over and the man goes insane. His pack will then hunt down the 🐺 so he can’t harm anyone in the town. No one has ever survived and chosen another mate …
Although so rare it is very rarely discussed, it occurred to Oscar, aka Ryder, in a previous story. He hunted Lisa for over a year when she had a serious wreck, so he bit her. She then rejected him and his pack turned on him. Ryder barely survived, but was able to make it back to his brother’s townhouse. Rocco hid him out for several months before finally letting his parents and others know he was actually alive. Since then Ryder has been fighting his 🐺, living with Rocco and engaging some with his brother’s pack, who now consider him one of theirs, while trying to stay sane for as long as he can to help his parents before the rejection takes him.
But what happens when your mate was rejected once before? Is it a real ‘mating’? What could happen if his first intended mate, that rejected him still, resides in town? Can a 🐺 turn another human female? Is the 🐺 and/or man still sane, or is he too far gone like everyone has believed for years?
What about Char? She has lived in Moon Rivers for years, grew up with the packs. How is she going to deal with being Ryder’s new mate?
Some feedback for improvement. The details from previous stories needs to be provided when it leads to, or supports, a new story. It can just be a short recap, it doesn’t need to be repeated verbatim. For instance, Ryder being rejected (that is why I included it above) and the previous meeting Char attended with Lisa. I still want more descriptions of the characters and the story universe, as that is what makes it come to life. Hopefully Lola Glass will make this into a Moon River Universe and have different spin-offs featuring various other ‘packs’.
I mention the following for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow. There are a few punctuation issues with commas and incorrect capitalization in regards to the mating phases. I didn’t document all of punctuation issues with commas, just the ones that annoyed me the most tbh, but still a lot less than previous stories. I uploaded my notes to goodreads for anyone interested.
Tolerated by the Sigma is the seventh installment in the Mate Hunt series by Lola Glass. This book is part of an interconnected series but can be read as a standalone. This paranormal fated-mate romance is slow-burn but brimming with steam.
Charly Kelley is a human that has grown up in Moon Ridge and has always known about the existence of shifters. She never imagined that after all of these years a mate bond would snap in place with one. She’s in her late 20’s and has saved herself for her one true love. Oscar Hughes, also referred to as Ryder, has slowly been losing his humanity and going crazy after being rejected by his first fated mate. His beast is wild and becoming more challenging to control. He has made friends with the feral pack living in the woods and reconnected with his family members, but he is mostly a lone wolf awaiting his fate to die. Ryder is surprised when the mate bond happens for a second time. He has met Charly before… why is it only just now occurring? Why did his wolf pick Lisa, the callous girl that destroyed his heart instead of Charly?
Ryder resists the mate pull. He doesn’t want to lose control and hurt Charly. He also believes he is unlovable after being so horribly rejected by his first mate. He pushes Charly away even after biting her to start the transformation. Charly isn’t some teenager sick on love — she leaves Ryder after he verbally rejects her advances. There are a lot of ups and downs in this book but once Charly and Ryder finally connect? Woooooow. This installment is the steamiest and dirtiest in the series. I LOVED IT!
I think the introductions to the feral pack members that stay in touch with Ryder was great. I’m hoping future installments will have Axel, Nico, and Kai finding their mates as well.
Likes: -No consent violations. -The romantic leads learn to communicate in healthy ways. -Both partners eventually display a healthy interest in intimacy. -HEA where both partners support marriage and are kind to children.
Dislikes: -not a lot of communication about intimacy before the more assertive partner just tries things and lucks out that the other one is pleased
- The epilogue has the sigmas back in community without discussing the healing of the feral pack, the baby without a mom being raised in the woods with no real shelter or education, and the lack of any hygienic communal eating area for the feral pack. Charly’s house design could have easily accommodated an outdoor pizza oven, grill, fridge, and pavilion a few acres from the house so Ry could feed everyone regularly in safe ways without living near them, even if the feral bachelors don’t want to live indoors. Vi could construct mirrored treehouse spheres throughout the forest property owned by the feral pack. That would get them off the ground, offer them camouflaged places to keep medical supplies and clothing, and allow them to remain outside the city and in close contact with nature. Then, the feral pack could have space to be alone and retain the proximity of interacting together without feeling bound by the social contracts that failed to protect them while they were living in the urban center. According to the world building in this series, avoiding taking mates forever is impossible and the children that follow need more resources than a tent in the woods to thrive. The sigmas are uniquely suited to challenge the feral pack to address their needs in new ways that allow them to incorporate individual safe spaces inside communal pack life. I wish the epilogue had addressed the contributions Charly and Ry made in greater detail.
This couple became fairly obvious by the 5th book in this series. We met Charly Kelly as the housemate and friend of both Lizzy and Sabby. She is also Del's co-worker as a high school councilor. Kelly is a human who grew up in a town populated by werewolves. Now in her early twenties none of the males in the town have identified her as their mate and she's pretty much given up on the idea one ever will. Oscar or now Ryder Hughes has been a secondary character in the last few stories as Rocco's older brother whose fated mate rejected him. For a male werewolf to be rejected by his mate is a death sentence. But when we meet his fated mate Lisa she's such an absolute bitch you wonder how fate could have possibly chosen her to be Oscar's mate? He definitely deserved the second chance fate has given him when he shockingly identifies Charly as his mate. Unfortunately Ryder's hyper aggressive violence prone wolf makes romance difficult for the two of them early on. Despite having grown up among werewolves and having solid advice for her girlfriends who were struggling with the mating process, Charly finds she's really not any more prepared for it than her friends were. Charly knows Ryder's first mate Lisa is an absolute bitch but she is beautiful. She can't help feeling like a consolation prize for Ryder because like Sabby, Charly has some self-esteem issues of her own. When she propositions Ryder after he turns her and he rejects her advances out of fear of what his wolf might do if he has an orgasm it doesn't help Charly's self-esteem very much. Fortunately with a little communication and vulnerability from both of them they work it out and have a lot of sex and live happily ever after.
I can’t believe it’s over! I’m literally tearing up. This series was such a whirlwind and I’m so sad to see it finished. I haven’t read a series back to back since I read Throne of Glass in 2020. And there are 7 books in this series! This world consumed me and I loved it. And I absolutely loved this book. It’s one of my favourites. It’s number 2 right under Teapot and Kettle as my number 1. I had the absolute best time with this book. My only complaint is that I wanted it longer! I didn’t want it to end and when it did, I had tears in my eyes. This story gave me all the feels. I absolutely adore Char and Ry. Brilliant. I loved Ry’s feralness. I love a little crazy sometimes and Ry delivered. Ry and Char were so consuming and feral and wild and possessive and I ate it up. It fit perfectly with this book. I freaking had the best time. Oof and so demanding and bossy! I loved it! It’s crazy to see how this series started out and then ended. The first book is wildly different from the last. But I love it. I think this series is going to stick with me for a while. I just loved the world and dynamics so much. I’m so sad it’s done. Ryder and Charly were phenomenal though. So good! And I loved how untamed Ryder was. Especially when his wolf was speaking through him. Damn! 4,25 stars! My order of favourites are: 1. Teapot and Kettle (book 1) 2. Char and Ry (book 7) 3. Del and Rocco (book 3) 4. Lizzy and Elliot (book 5) 5. Dax and Sab (book 6) + Eb and Ford (book 2) 6. Zed and June (book 4) I can’t really decide which book I preferred more, Dax’s or Ford’s. Maybe Dax’s a smidge more.
Perfect ending to the Mate Hunt series 👏 ever since we met Oscar/Ryder in book 2 I just wanted a second chance for him.. he was rejected and then his beast took over... this is definitely my favorite book of the series I love them all but there's definitely something about two broken souls finding each other that always tugs at my heartstrings and draws me in 💜
When Ryder volunteered to go help one of his packs friends out after a date turned bad the last thing he expected was to hunt the damsel in distress, after all he was barely man most days as he constantly battled his beast. It'd been like that for the last few years after his mate rejected him. Charly had grown up in town, she'd been in a pack but when no one seemed to be her mate she became that human girl that lived in a werwolf town. She loved it there but she was pretty lonely most days surrounded by mated couples. Both Ryder and Charly are pretty insecure and it leaves them vulnerable with each other in a beautiful way. Ryder still struggles a lot with his beast and he's scared to let himself all the way in with Charly in case his beast hurts her and Charly struggles a lot with the fact that she feels like a consolation prize after fate already chose Ryder a mate before and not her. Both will have to work through their issues whilst learning to trust each other something that isn't easy for either but in the end they'll realize they're each others redemption and fate had it right all along 💜
I'll miss this series and all the couples but I will for sure read them again in the future.
Well for the conclusion of the series it stared out interesting and then just flat lined. It felt significantly shorter and more glossed over than the rest of the series. Honestly what was the point of that one page epilogue?
It’s also slightly annoying that we never found out why he was able to have a second mate. You can’t set up these “always” rules through 6 previous books and then magically undo it and not explain it somehow. Like at least in the last book it was all, “oh she has some witch blood in her that caused this”. A lame excuse especially since we had never even interacted with witches before in the entirety of the series. But nope, not even that kind of half explanation. Also they just get away with literal murder and our human doesn’t have any trauma to overcome after being stuck in her shift and unable to stop her wolf’s actions?! Additionally that fight was dumb. The victim was another werewolf why didn’t they shift and fight back? Makes no sense.
Like I know these books are the equivalent to delicious junk food for me, but I would like to at least sound credible when talking about this world with my friends. In the last three books she just shook up her entire world building premise and peaced out.
I hear there is a spin off series with the pact in the forest … we shall see if I end up delving into those.
Ryder, the male lead, had a mate that rejected him. Since then, his wolf has been trying to take over and his pack tried to kill him. When he goes to rescue Charly, the female lead, from a bad date, his wolf decides that she’s his mate, forcing his shift. But Charly doesn’t want to be second best…
This story is mostly female lead POV, with a couple of chapters male POV, well written and edited, with a fantastic premise that ends this author’s first series in this world. I greatly enjoyed Charly as a character and empathised with her concerns regarding Ryder and his wolf. I appreciated Ryder’s position as well, and especially the character development towards the end of the story, where he shared his emotions and concerns with Charly. The pack as family, with close bonds was an integral and appreciated part of the story, and I deeply appreciated that this story particularly discussed pack gone wrong situations for both characters. I enjoyed the extra intimate and highly erotic scenes which felt absolutely right for these characters and were written sensitively but openly. I’m curious to see whether the author goes anywhere else with this world. It still looks so interesting.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I must say this one was a good one. Did it rival the first book in the series? Maybe a little bit but I still enjoyed this one even though I read it in about a day's time.
The romance was definitely there as expected I say it was a solid 9 and a half on that scale, so if you're not into steam then this book isn't for you as it does go into quite a bit of detail but not in a way that makes it come off as cheap.
Language was constant but if you've read the other books in this series, this one won't bother you.
With this series I have my favorites and my not so favorites. Overall, the series has been good though and this one became a quick favorite early on knocking out Lizzy and Elliot's story or at least rivaling it for second place in my opinion behind Jesse and Teegan's of course. I liked that Ryder and Charly both struggled and, in the end had to build each other up from the way they had been treated by others in the past. It was good to see them come together on cracked and broken ground and build something stronger and new over it.
It's not a complicated story but a pretty simple one as with the other books in the series but I think that it is its simplicity that makes it such a good and fun read.
There are many things that come into play with Ryder and Charly’s story. When a date went wrong and the guy tried to attack her, Charly ran to the bathroom and locked the door to keep him away. However, he broke the door down to get to her. Fortunately, a werewolf had overheard her phonecall for help and he arrived to take care of the problem. But when he called her “mate”, that gave her a new set of issues to deal with.
Charly Kelley had been aware that werewolves were real. And this particular one, Oscar Hughes (“Ryder”), wore his scars both inside and outside. So Charly was willing to help him heal. First she had to believe they were mates though. So she wanted him to bite her which, if she was turned, proved they really were mates. What was most important to her was to be chosen because he cared for her. So finding that his first selection of a mate had rejected him, she didn’t want to just be the loser’s prize. She wanted him to care. Will she give up on him? Or will they find their HEA together?
So we meet Charly on a blind date for the first time after talking to him for the past 2 wks. He picks her up drunk & she still gets in the car w/him. Charly is human & she was actually raised by a pack-who when they realized she is no one’s mate they decided push her out of the pack in an attempt to prevent issues. We get a glimpse of Ryder in the 1st book where his mate rejected him & his pack was going to kill him before his wolf goes crazy. He didn’t die but they beat him up so bad that they left him there for dead. While getting gas Charly’s decided to make a move & she decided to lock herself in the bathroom. Ryder came to the rescue & realized she is his mate. I really enjoyed reading this book. It’s so different than the rest. After finding she is his mate he bite her & she turned to a wolf but Ryder has been through a lot being rejected by his mate that he is truly broken. This is by far my favorite book in this series!
These were quick reads and they did keep me intrigued but the writing was a little immature for my taste at times and a little bland. There was an overabundance of the use of words like “ridiculous” and “amazing” and sentences would always be emphasized (ie I like him a lot. Like REALLY a lot. ) this happened A LOT.
The series as a whole I would give 3 stars for making some of the characters so like able but some of the FMCS were just plain stupid, not stubborn but stupid because their rationale and decision making was ridiculous and overdramatic at times.
Also, the werewolf thing….doesn’t really factor into anything other than the fact to pick a mate like that’s it. There’s some lore around the curse and the packs yet but other than that it has no purpose at all. And the “Hunt” is not really a hunt. Neither is the Chase for that matter. It just doesn’t make too much sense
But the characters for the most part are likable and I did want to read more of their stories when they weren’t making dumb decisions.
Couple: Ryder and Charly Plan to re-read: Maybe Thoughts: This one was much better than the last one. I liked both the main characters and while it is still a bit shallow it was less repetitive than the last one and I enjoyed that there was a surprising plot twist. I didn't go 4 stars because it was dangerously close to being a more smut than plot book. Plus this one had a second unplanned wedding in it and the epilogue didn't really show anything except June and Zed had a baby and that Ryder and Charly were still together(which was not really in question). It was kind of odd honestly. FMC ends up pregnant: No
I am undecided on checking out the spin off series but there are only 2 of them and they are both on Kindle Unlimited so I probably will at some point. I did put maybe re-read on most of this series but if I'm being honest I probably won't but I'd probably read another series by this author.

Loving this series! I was so happy to read Ryder’s redemption story! Rejected by the first mate his wolf chose, then attacked and left to die by his own pack, he fought his inner wolf to stay alive. The fate of a rejected male had always been death, despite how unworthy and unlovable he felt her worked hard to keep his sanity and his wolf in check. Suddenly, miraculously, fate gives him a second chance. Charly is on a date gone bad when Ryder charges in to save the day; and for the first time in werewolf history, a rejected wolf chooses a new mate. At first Ryder makes nothing but mistakes, leaving Charly feeling second rate as they fumble through navigating their unprecedented mating. But when Ryder’s venomously hateful ex shows up to cause trouble for him, Charly steps up to claim her mate.
Awww... a perfectly imperfect MFC and MMC and their HEA -- Love Char, little miss miracle :D A great final installment to settle the whole pack into a HEA werewolf walk off into the sunset. The imperfections in the characters makes them realer than real, very relatable, and pulls the reader into their journey towards their HEA. Another entertaining read, a tale that makes you believe in the miracle of soul mates and the ability to find love and a family even after they have given up on their own HEA. Redemption, found family, and the mystical magical fates that solves the puzzle of every unattached soul. Sad to see the story end for this pack -- but I'm working through the author's whole library of published works and I'm never disappointed.
Ryder has been through a lot as his first mate rejected him. Luckily he didn’t die, he survived by sheer will power and lived with his brother. The downside to surviving is having to deal with his ex. Lisa who is a truly horrible and selfish person. Charly is lonely. She feels rejected by her pack. Her two close friends have found their mates and even though they have stayed friends she feels like they have moved on and she hasn’t. Once Ryder and Charly overcome their communication difficulties they are really sweet and are a lovely couple and have quite a few intense and sexy scenes (hot hot hot). Then they realise that they are the missing piece of each other puzzle. It’s very romantic and a very good read.
Charly's life changed with one bad date. When he attacks her, she tries to hide in the bathroom to call for help and he breaks in. Ryder hears her and comes to her rescue. However, this causes another problem when his wolf claims her as its mate. Charly has decided to see what she can do to help Ryder, but she doesn't want to be second choice to him. Can he show her that she means more to him than what she thinks? Will they get their happy ending?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Tolerated by the Sigma, Mate Hunt book seven by Lola Glass follows Charly and Ryder's story. We've known Ryder throughout the series as being the werewolf whose mate rejected him. And we've seen his ex-mate around town and we all have a huge dislike of her. I was happy to see what happened to her. Charly was on a blind date gone bad, and Ryder comes to the rescue. And then bam! His wolf recognizes his mate. This book was by far the smexiest out of all the other books in this series. Lots of drama from start to finish. Great book. No bullying. No cheating. HEA as usual.
Yeeeeees! I’ve been long waiting for Ryder’s story and it’s finally here. I get closure so in your face Lisa!
Man, Ryder was such a difficult mate. Under the brooding was an asshat. But under the asshat was a story and reason. I enjoyed the imperfection of the characters. That they worked through their rejection, all the things that have gone wrong to take that well deserved happy ending.
It’s hard to let go of Mate Hunt at book 7. It’s been a great ride.
I found this the perfect end and everything I wanted for this series. The character development was so strong in this and what I would expect mature and “older” people to go through in their situation. I loved Ryder was this dark, brooding, and bossy and the way our MC responded to him was perfect. Even when they had to deal with the Lisa situation(which I did not expect to end the way it did!) it ended in a way that was so satisfying. They were hot and got me bothered, what else can I say?
Charly is about to be sexually assaulted by her drunk date in a garage's toilet. She just called her two best friends, not far from there, who live with a nearby pack of werewolves and are mated to members of that pack. Ryder comes to her rescue and, after busting her date's chops, his eyes start to glow red, he starts shifting and he yells Mate.
This is the story of Charly and Ryder/Oscar and it is great.
I discovered this author not so long ago through books she wrote and sort of fell under her spell. She has a special way to creating stories about the paranormal with the main characters engaging in dialogs with a funny attitude under the worst circumstances and using sass and witt that made this reader laugh at certain moments during my reading this story, while also keying up my interest in the plot as well as reactions from all the characters the author uses in her story.
The book turned into a page turner that I highly recommend with a rating of 5 Stars. If I could give it ten stars, I would.
Thank goodness I got a dual POV in this book. I LOVED it right from the start when Ryder was saving Charly from a drunk as a skunk, date ending early, POS who wasn't taking no for an answer. Did charly get a little annoying? YES. But at least Ryder was great and oh so hot especially when his wolf would almost share space with his human side. Which is something that never happened in this series....and the end was amazing. Thank goodness Ryder got his second chance from Mrs Miracle.
It was an excruciating month waiting for this book, but it was well deserved. It had such a cute ending, it was so great 😩 The miscommunication was really getting me in the beginning, but at least Ry broke that streak. Bro his complete and utter devotion to Char: chef’s kiss 🤌🏼
“Nothing was perfect for us, or between us, but if this was our version of imperfection, I would pray for flaws every day of my fucking life.”
I might love this book the most in the series. Throughout the books, I always felt for Ryder the most, and I'm glad he finally got his book and his chance at happiness. I'm glad both he and Char got to really talk through their feelings and insecurities. This book was the only book that made me tear up a little, just from the emotions and insecurities each of them felt.
