Anthony Arismendi moved to the United States from Venezuela as a teenager in the mid-seventies with the dream of becoming a US citizen and an FBI agent—despite the fact that he couldn't speak a word of English.
Transplanted from the dangerous streets of Caracas, Arismendi's unconventional thinking and out-of-the-box approach to life landed him in plenty of comical, often precarious situations. Still, he adapted his survival skills to a new culture, one harrowing day at a time, overcoming homelessness, prejudice, and poverty to achieve the impossible.
Profoundly inspirational, Arismendi's unique blend of hard work, perseverance, and mysticism in the face of relentless adversity reminds us that our reservoirs of courage and determination run far deeper than we know—and that we should never give up on our dreams, no matter how out of reach they might seem.
I have known of the Arismendi family for more than 30 years. Tony's brother Eduardo and I became good friends back in the late 80s. I still remember the day that Eduardo shared the news of Tony becoming an FBI agent. I had no idea these 2 brothers were such bad asses in their own rights.
Read, or consume the book like I did, and you will experience a deep perspective of the history of service of the Arismendi family dating all the way back to the fight for a freedom in South America.
From the lineage of General Juan Bautista Arismendi in the 1800s who was Bolivar's right hand man to the modern day FBI warrior that is Tony Arismendi, you will experience the life of a modern day Renaissance man that relentlessly pursued his dream to make a dent in the universe and make this world a better place.
It reads like a rags to riches story wrapped up in a mission impossible movie with a west side story slant topped with a full serving of Miami Vice.
Wow! A totally captivating memoir that took me on an enthralling journey. The author brought the tales to life with vivid descriptions, emotional depth, and a unique third person narrative that kept me hooked from start to finish. I felt effortlessly drawn into a world of intrigue and self-discovery. An absolute Must-Read!
Amazing memoir and if the government approved what Anthony wrote, I wonder what he had to leave out. A few areas discussing some of the history of South America got a little textbookish, but learning about his family and their role in different wars and uprisings was very interesting. The honesty around the issues of being married and having children while being an FBI agent cuts to the core of what some jobs demand of the person working for them and even of their family, so many people agree to this to make an impact in our country and around the world.
This book reads like it is the book report on this man’s life rather than the actual memoir/biography. I learned a few interesting and new things about the FBI, but overall this book feels like it is just scratching the surface and fails to dive deeply into any one topic or part of Arismendi’s life.
A truly remarkable read. I highly recommend "Outsider Agent" to anyone looking for an inspiring memoir that blends adventure, personal growth, and mysticism into an unforgettable narrative. It will leave you both entertained and inspired long after you've turned the final page.
