Cait Keane and her Dragon partner Aza have a score to settle with an assassin – and whoever hired him.
Investigating the murder of a judge wasn’t the plan for Cait’s first weeks in Boston.
But they’d caught the assassin, so, case closed, right? Not so much.
Everybody wants a word with the killer – the Marshals, the PDA, and the two criminal bosses in town. One of the bosses hired the hitman and he’s not saying a word.
Cait better slice through the tangle of lies fast.
The animosity between the Roses and Dragons organizations is already heating up.
At home, a new threat has emerged to endanger her coven. Now that her family is in charge, it’s on them to deal with it. But Cait has never faced shifters before, making it one more step into the unknown.
Events will push her to grow in power and skill – or kill her.
The US Marshal with something extra wouldn’t have it any other way.
I’m TR Cameron, science fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genre since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. It’s been all downhill since then.
I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Dishonored 2 – I’m a little behind the times on this one), watching things (Marvel movies, American Gods, Agents of Shield, Justified, The Expanse, Gotham), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.
My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.
Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

Cait is really growing on me as a character and her personality is beginning to show through. I love Aza and her relationship with her partner. They are a great duo. I sometimes struggle to keep up with what is going on, since there is a lot happening. On one hand I enjoy it since life is rarely just one big problem at a time and this series reflects that. On the other, sometimes I’m a bit confused on what is going on at the time.
Another enjoyable story. Cait has a lot going on in this book and you need to pay attention. So much is happening in this book with her job and what’s happening with her family that you can get lost. All the characters are are a great bunch and you can easily see that she’s finding that she’s herself as being part of a great team.
This is a review of books 1 (Witch With a Badge) and 2 (Witch With a Grudge) in the Witch Warrior series. For once waiting until I had read the second book was not me being lazy but quite deliberate. For quite a few series that I have tried out lately I have found the first book interesting enough but then it went down the drain in the second book. So this time I waited until I had read the first two book before making a review. I guess now I have to hope that the author(s) do not screw it with the third book.
I was a bit hesitant since it is claimed that T.R. Cameron co-authored it with Martha Carr who has been mostly miss for me lately and is really on my do-not-read list. Since T.R. Cameron was mentioned first, but mostly because I liked the idea of a witch being a Marshal, I decided to test my luck anyway. Oh, and Michael Anderle has stuck his name on it as well but, as is often the case, I don’t think he has written a single word of the actual content.
So far this series has been a decent enough urban fantasy story. As I wrote I like the idea of a witch being a Marshal. There are way too many stories out there where the main protagonist are spending most of the books hiding or even being at odds with law enforcement the latter usually being incompetent and politically corrupt.
Cait is quite likable. She is quite competent, somewhat snarky of course and she has a dragon who is equally snarky and thinks that every problem can be solved by liberal application of dragonfire. I quite like the combo. It doesn’t hurt that Cait’s law enforcement friends are also both competent and likable of course.
There are really two stories going on here. One is Cait the Marshal solving cases with her colleagues and the other is Cait the witch coven member back home who, as it turns out in the second book, have a wee bit of a infestation problem, the furry and toothy kind. Normally I am not to found of these double stories but, so far, it worked pretty well in these books.
One thing I am not too thrilled about though are these technomage witches or infomancers who combines magic and modern technology. They are the informatics researchers and spy specialists of the Marshal service which is fine. However, when they do their stuff oftentimes they submerge themselves in some virtual reality where they sometimes meet their opponents and duke it out. It does not make sense neither from a informatics point of view nor from a magic point of view. It is just weird and I do not really like it very much.
Apart from that the books are not bad. They are no masterpieces really but solid urban fantasy books and, so far, refreshingly free from woke preaching or unnecessary romance/urban porn episodes. There’s plenty of action intermingled with detective work and family banter (both between Cait and her Marshal “family” and her real family). They are good books to read when watching TV at the same time, which I do most of the time.
I think I will have a go at the third book, due out by the end of the month.
Cait and her Dragon, Aza, are constantly on the go. If it's not her Marshal work, then it's a race against time with the SOG (Special Operations Group).
Even when they get time to go home to Ireland, Cait finds that trouble is waiting for them, with the Shifters who have moved into the area, who are threatening both the Coven, and the nearby Town, Westpoint.
Cait tries to settle things with them, but finds them very obstinate in their decision to take the land away from everyone.
Then the assassin that she'd taken the time to capture is killed in a prison fire - or is he?
I'm really enjoying this series, and the fact that we can see through multiple points of view. This brings into better focus, a much stronger feel for the whole storyline, and I'm having fun with that.
It really does feel as though Cait, and Aza, have more than enough to deal with but, as it's said, if you want a job done, then give it to a busy person - and that's Cait, all right! Lol
Even though I've only read the first two books, I can see this series rapidly developing into my favourite one, so far, in the Oriceran World - as I say, so frequently, we readers are definitely spoilt for choice! Lol
Anyhoo, I'm going to finish up this review: "Dragons, Peeps!!!!" , then I'll be going straight on to book three of the series: ' Witch With An Enemy' and, once I've read it, as usual, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think about it!
BTW, if you read TR Cameron's Author's Notes (I always enjoy doing this, as there's often details there that you won't find anywhere else), then you'll find a link to get a short story of Cat's earlier time in the SOG: 'A Witch With Spirit' - it's definitely worth the whole thing of signing up to his newsletter to get it, especially as most authors give quicker news of new books, or short story releases, etc., that way! 👍
Cait and Aza are getting used to working together, but Cait’s life is getting more complicated! There’s the new coven hierarchy, the assassin she still needs information from, and the two criminal groups in Boston that are causing mischief. She has SOG things to do, as well as find a new apartment and her training! It’s exhausting just reading about it.
Picking up where book one left off, we’re right back into the swing of things as Cait investigates. She’s a little unorthodox in her methods, and maybe takes a few too many risks, but it makes for an interesting read. It’s a fairly fast paced book, but mostly because Cait’s life is just slam-packed with things, so even as she makes slow progress in her cases, her life is whizzing by at a hectic pace. Fortunately Aza makes for an intriguing companion, and a life saving partner!
The book ends on a pretty big book hook, so if you’re planning on being offline, you may wish to download the next book so you don’t have to wait too long.
An entertaining read, with a fun cast of characters. This one will probably appeal to fantasy and urban fantasy fans, as well as LitRPG fans and gamers.

Cait and Aza have gained a new enemy and many new friends, battles increase
Cait has gotten very busy and Aza loves to join in the battles. Her family have taken on the wolves. The marshals have been caught between the Roses and the Dragons and the special opts have found new enemies of the states. But Cait is also gaining new friends and has found a new apartment big enough for her and her dragon. Aza has been slowly introduced to her teams and is finding ways to join in the fighting which has for some reason increased. Everyone is put on alert to watch their backs.
I get tired for the main character just listening to all she does. I swear she keeps adding more responsibility to herself. Aza is finally introduced to her SOG group. If it weren't for that potion she carries she would've had a rough recovery when she was burned & fell out a window. At least Aza was there to slow her fall. Unfortunately, at the end of the book someone gets a picture of her & the dragon. The leaders of the Roses & Dragons make plans to start a war. And the Roses plan on delivering Cait to the assassin that she put in jail.
Book two continues I find it odd how she has two jobs really doing the same thing, or is Boston a mission really is she planted there to find out about the gangs and who is working for them? This has three authors so is one focused with one of her jobs and one on the other then last on with the wolves and her family? If so it shows, she can't give 100% to anything and it shows because she is everywhere if all is in a battle at once where will she go? I don't know?
I’m on my second book in the series and decided it had enough compelling characters to warrant a second. While the main character is interesting, she is in the midst of three separate conflicts that all need more depth. With enough growth in the plots and narrative, each conflict could be its own book in the series. I do like Cait and the dragon. Could use some more tension in the family or coven.
Writing style is weird for me. I think it’s because it takes its time in detailing things during moments of high-stake pressure. I’m used to things being vague so that there’s a flow to high adrenaline and then chill times.
Otherwise I liked the storylines going on. It’s very cool and I haven’t read something like this, where a heroine goes back and forth between the life she chose and the family life she chose to leave behind but still be a part of.
The first book of the series was very good and the 2nd was better. Really looking forward to the next in the series. I love Cait, Aza and the other characters in the book. The storyline is great and there is a lot to hold your interest including plenty of action and magic. I'm looking forward to see how they handle the different faction of enemies.
I didn’t realize that there are several series that tie into the Oriceran planet. I had just finished the 18th Mr Brownstone book and wanted to take a break. I was going to wait to start the Alison Brownstone series. I may be reading these series all year! LOL
This installment was a lot of fun, but it ends in such a way that I now need to read the next one.
Cait and Aza, a dragon, that are companions brought together from the spirit world. Cait a Marshall for the government has a lot on her plate. The adventure and thrilling dangerous situations that she goes through with 2 mob families and her own home that shifters are trying to take back.
Cait is a Deputy US Marshall currently working out of Boston. She must deal with gangs, assassins, and magic, as well as coven politics and dangerous shifters on the side. I like the action, humor, and intrigue. I look forward to the next book.
A lot apparently, the tougher the heroes, the tougher the bad guys. YIN & YANG, everything must balance. An excellent series, each self contained but dragging you forwards demanding you read the next.
Witch With a Badge, the second book of the Witch Warrior series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). Excellent continuation from book 1. Enjoyable and unpredictable plot kept me guessing. The author did an great job developing the characters, especially the dragon, Aza.
I enjoyed this 2nd book, but for the cost of Audible books 5 hrs is much to short. Maybe the author can combine 2 books together to give a cost effective book. Narrator does a good job with the characters and Storyline.
Really wonderful to weave all of the various activities of Cait together Loving all the characters Loving the side stories Wondering if they are stand alone or will weave into the whole! Thank you
This is the Second book in this series but there is a third book in this series. If you're interested in reading this series by this author specialize in this kind of books.
The characters are interesting and the authors writing style is easy to read, the only reason I’ve given it an average 3 star rating is there is just so much going on! Cait’s job as a Marshall, SOG and moonlighting undercover, the family/coven issue with shifters, her developing powers and the list goes on…it was a bit too much.
