Melissa Storm is a New York Times and multiple USA Today bestselling author of Women’s Fiction, Inspirational Romance, and Cozy Mysteries.

Despite an intense, lifelong desire to tell stories for a living, Melissa was “too pragmatic” to choose English as a major in college. Instead, she obtained her master’s degree in Sociology & Survey Methodology—then went straight back to slinging words a year after graduation anyway.

She loves books so much, in fact, that she married fellow author Falcon Storm. Between the two of them, there are always plenty of imaginative, awe-inspiring stories to share. Melissa and Falcon also run a number of book-related businesses together, including LitRing, Sweet Promise Press, Novel Publicity, Your Author Engine, and the Author Site.

When she's not reading, writing, or child-rearing, Melissa spends time relaxing at her home in the Michigan woods, where she is kept company by a seemingly unending quantity of dogs and two very demanding Maine Coon rescues. She also writes under the names of Molly Fitz and Mila Riggs.

We get to know the Anchorage librarian, Scarlett Cole, better in this sequel. Scarlett is at a crossroads; she doesn’t want to give up her job as a librarian, but she wants to pursue her dream of racing sled dogs. You’ll have to read to find out what makes her decision easier!

Author Melissa Storm highlights that some things are more important than money, that we need to focus on the future not the past, and that “sometimes our families define us, and sometimes all they give us is a name”.

I think the message that I’ll remember most is the danger of living a dream that isn’t ours. This exploration leads to the introduction of another character, Henry Mitchell III, and the grumpy-sunshine trope that Storm has mastered so well. The angst and play between characters was well-done and it was nice to meet the couple from book one again.

I’m looking forward to book three!

Hmmm.

The Gist: A librarian turned dog musher. And a billionaire who'll be her greatest challenge both on the track and off.

Alright so Let There Be Light was interesting. I didn't hate it. But it didn't quite do it for me in all areas either. I had some slight heroine issues. And the romance was super light.

Scarlett's taking time off from her job as a librarian to pursue dog sledding. It's her obsession. I loved that she was following a dream and dedicated. And Henry. Well he's pursuing dog sledding too but only because he's being forced to because of his grandfather's will. He comes off as a jerk to the media but under it all he's a good man just trying to find his way in a family that doesn't want him to break the mold.

The romance was weird. They're hardly together for any of the book. A sled ride, a single dance, a couple minor texts. That's pretty much it. The rest of the time they're separate and sniping at each other in the media. Eh. I like a bit more togetherness with my romances overall.

My main issue was Scarlett and her friends. They're very judgmental over Henry. Holding him guilty for his grandfather's sins. It bugged me how hateful they were about him. And how mean Scarlett got as the book progressed. She basically became what she was blaming him of and didn't realize it. So there were some issues there.

The end was dramatic and worked for me. I do wish there'd been more time on the actual romance and being nice to Henry. And would have liked to have some scenes in Henry's voice. This series seems to only follow the heroines. I didn't hate it, though. It kept me reading and I enjoyed the sledding aspect again.

Another beautiful story in this warm series! The main character (Scarlett) is the best friend of the main character of Let There Be Love (Lauren). Lauren teaches Scarlett how to be a musher. And they both race in the Iditarod, the great sled dog race of Alaska.
Great to get to know them both better. And to learn even more about this interesting and challenging sport.
This is only the third story I've read so far, but I'm already a fan of Melissa Storm! She writes love stories with a lot of love, and you can feel that!
I received a copy and chose to review it.

What a great story. Racing in the Iditarod. Falling in love. Jumping to conclusions. Oh, yes. Fall in love with a man 'everyone' says is just like his dad, only said dad was infamous for his mistreatment of sled dogs. Then find out he wants your help racing, gives memorable kisses, but you do not know if he is using you or is sincere. Scarlett is not like any librarian I ever knew. The story has captured the dangers and beauty of the vast Alaskan unknown. Wonderful characters, sweet romance, new puppies and the unexpected will captivate and delight.

Scarlett from Texas to Anchorage as a librarian, books and Iditarod was her passions. Best friend Lauren was a top racer, and now a handler. Books had made her happy when in Texas, nor she craved the outdoor. Going to the ball alone, was not her thing, a stranger’s look, she finally asked if she knew him. Replying not yet, just dance for now. Intrigued of who he was, and giving up all she knew to be a musher. Interesting of the two new loves in her life and now in Alaska.

Another fantastic read! I love Scarlett, she’s a feisty introvert who is very relatable. You get pulled in right away and glued to the pages. It was great to watch Scarlett and Henry and their relationship grew and changed. I love the role the dogs and racing plays in this series, I can’t wait for more.

This is the 2nd book in the Sled Dog series. Here we meet Scarlett more. She is the librarian in the local town and has always wanted to be a musher. When she is presented with an opportunity that seems too good to be true, she takes it. But at what cost?
We also meet Henry, who seems to have it all but does he? He is fighting family and heritance to try and be what he wants to be. He has to take part in the prestigious dog sled race.
Scarlett and Henry are drawn to each other but there are obstacles that if they are to be together have to be overcome.
I loved being back in this Alaskan town and learning a bit more about sled dogs and what life can be like in Alaska. The characters are really well written and you can see them and their surroundings as you progress through the book. You care about them and what happens to them, as they fell like friends.
I would recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series when it comes out.

Sorry, I've never giver 1 star, but I couldn't get through but first three or four chapters. I got totally aggravated at Lauren's attitude toward Shane. I agree he was grouchy, but he was injured and hurting. If he had other problems, it's none of her business, Shane is her employer. He also had the right to know more about her if she was to live under his roof. Then, who signs a contract without reading it, especially if it gave instructions on how to feed and care for the dogs, especially since you were ignorant on how to handle mush dogs. I'm passing on this one.

Once again, Melissa Storm outdid herself in the second in the Sled Dog series, Let There be Light. It’s a book you want to set down and read the entire thing at once. It gets you hooked so you only want to stop when you need to get that tissue from tears for the dogs.
In this book Scarlett Cole in living her life with a job she really loves as an librarian and the world she wants to be in with the Iditarod in Alaska. She thought she was given the chance to live out both worlds when her boss convinced her to take a year off to follow her dream of the Iditarod before she becomes the head of the library. She moves temporarily up to her friends house and starts training with the dogs. Prior to her getting to her friends, she attends the year gala and has an interesting night of dancing with Henry Mitchell III.
Meanwhile, Henry is caught in a difficult position when his grandfather dies and leaves a bucket list of Henry to fulfill before he can inherit the mast fortune and make sure the family is taken care of. He also has to finish the Iditarod race as well in order to make the bucket list come true. But when he met Scarlett he had to prove he wasn’t like his grandfather who mistreated dogs and really wasn’t a nice person.
The story goes on with a love/hate relationship between Scarlett and Henry. During the read you learn a lot about the Iditarod and what they go through. The author knows how to tug at your heart when she describes the sad story of Alaskan dogs that are neglected and left for dead (this is where you need that tissue). I recommend this book and I highly recommend you read the first is the series as well. Once again, Melissa Storm brings us a book you don’t want to put down.

LET THERE BE LIGHT is the second in the Sled Dogs series. Each stands on their own, but with heavy involvement with the characters from the other stories. I have not read the first book in this series and had no problem understanding who was who and how they related to one another.

I love Scarlett. She is braver than I could ever be. She is taking a huge chance and going for it to be a musher – her big dream. She’s sweetness and fierceness. A firecracker wrapped in cotton candy. Then there is her rival – Henry – does she trust him or the rumors. Is he like his grandfather?

Then there are the real villains of the story – Mrs. Caputo and Vanessa Price. I have a few like that in my office – the ones who will stab you while pretending to assist – you can only hope that karma visits at a time when you are there to witness the results.

Besides the wonderful people in this story, there are the fur babies… including rescues from the Sled Dog Rescue Organization, along with Lolly Winston and Dr. Oscar Rockwell. Fred, Fantine, Cosette, and the others are just as necessary to the story. Where would a musher be without her dogs?!

The story is sweet and thoughtful. It brought sun and warmth to a cold day. I couldn’t put it down and read it in one day.

Note: while I was given this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

I honestly am not sure how to review this story. There were several things that bothered me about it as a Christian fiction story - 1. The Christians in this story used strong slang (which is really just sugar-coated cussing). Words mean what they say, and God knows the intent of our hearts when we use slang rather than the cuss word. 2. The Christians in this story didn't have a problem having a drink at the ball. I know that it is becoming more and more common for "Christians" to drink nowadays, but it shouldn't be. 3. The Christians in this book talked so hatefully to each other and were so unforgiving, holding grudges. Their behavior was so unChristlike it was hard to read. I cringed my way through much of the story by the behavior of those who were supposed to be the Christians in this story. I didn't see this same behavior in the first story. Although it took me awhile to figure out who was supposed to be the Christian.

The story was pretty good though. Lauren had dreamed for much of her life of being a part of the Iditarod Race. She also loved being a librarian, that was something she had gone to school for, she didn't want to give that up for an adventure. She finally got the opportunity to get the adventure and keep the job. In the midst of this is a man, Henry. She isn't sure what to think of him. She thought he was someone she could trust, but something happens that shakes that trust - but rather than giving him a chance to explain she goes off the deep end. Then there's the race! Those scenes were very good.

I can say this is a clean read because of all of the strong slang used. There isn't any sexual content though.

Let There Be Light by Melissa Storm is a great adventure story with an enemies-to-lovers romance that will melt your heart. Scarlett was a character that I could easily relate to as a reader. She lives in the worlds between the pages of her books. And we all know how that feels. But she’s ready to experience her own adventure this time.

She begins training for the Iditarod. Which seemed a little out of place to me. It’s the biggest sled dog race in the world. And I didn’t think you can just jump right in and run it your first year in training. But maybe I’m wrong. Because that’s exactly what she did – with the help of Lauren and Shane from the previous book.

Henry Mitchell has a very bad reputation, and it isn’t clear at first if he really deserves it. But he’s also out to win the Iditarod, with much more at stake than Scarlett. Because his family’s inheritance is on the line. And his family is not well-loved in the dog community.

Henry and Scarlett make an interesting match from the very beginning. With the hint of a Cinderella story at the ball, their meeting is quite memorable – and news-worthy. The back and forth between Scarlett wanting to help and wanting nothing to do with Henry seemed very fitting for both their characters. And it was well-done and believable.

Melissa Storm did an amazing job with the ending. So I will not give any hints to ruin it for you. But she found the perfect way to give everyone a happily ever after. I’m excited to jump right in a read more of the series to see who gets to fall in love next.

My comments:

Really enjoyed this book, the second book in the series was just as good as the first. it was grate to learn more about dog sledding and I really loved Scarlotte and Henrey's story. Can't wait for the last book in the trilogy Liz Lauren and Scarlottes best friend to have her story next. There are another 5 books in the collection as a whole so I really hope one day the UK audible does them all.

I was sad to come to the last page of this book! I wanted it to continue but I'm glad there is another book in the series so I can continue with the characters! I am loving everything about these sled dogs and the people who love them! Scarlett had such a tender heart! When she first meets Henry, she has no idea who he is but their eyes meet across a crowded dance floor and it's as if they are the only 2 people in the room. It's almost like Cinderella because they dance but both end up not finding out each other's names. Scarlett finds out later that Henry is actually the grandson of a greedy, mean billionaire who put in his will that Henry has to jump through all these hoops to get his inheritance. Because of some things in the grandfather's past, Scarlett immediately doesn't like him, nor does anyone else but she's still drawn to Henry for some reason.
This story is so magical and is different because most of the story is spent with Henry and Scarlett APART! That's unusual for a romance! They both have to participate and run in the Iditirod dog sled race but for different reasons. I loved the story as told from Scarlett's point of view and how hard she works to live her dream of being in the race. The characters from the previous book are in the story too so I enjoyed that!
This book has so much to do with the public persona and the private persona - the person you let the public see and then the REAL you. And, it's about not judging people and acceptance. I loved it!

This is the second in a series called Sled Dogs. Apparently in the first book in a friendship was formed between our heroine, Scarlett, and Lauren, a sled dog racer and is involved with the local rescue organization.

Scarlett is a librarian in Anchorage, Alaska who dreams of being a sled dog racer and of running her own dogs in the Iditarod race. When she is offered a chance to take a year’s leave from the Library to try and fulfill this dream and run by her friends.

Henry meets Scarlett at a ball following this year’s race and there is an instant attraction but they part without exchanging names. Henry is the grandson to one of the most cruel abuser of sled dogs in the area and one of the wealthiest. Henry the First has recently died leaving a will with an unfulfilled “bucket list” of things that his grandson has to complete in order for any of his family to inherit. One item on the list is to dance with a stranger, Scarlett, and another item is to place in the annual Iditarod.

Thus, Scarlett and Henry are both training for the upcoming race with the same trainer and kennel resulting in a predictable falling in love-conflict-happy ever after.

I really never connected with any of the characters—except for the dogs. There appeared to be a lot unsaid about the relationships and characters that may have been filled out in the first book in the series. I did finish the book but I don’t plan to look for any of the others in the series.

This is the 2nd book of the Sled Dog series by Storm.

In this one Scarlett takes leave from her library job to do what she has always wanted to do which is race in the Iditarod. When she begins her training with Lauren and Shane from the first book, she meets Henry who is also preparing to race in the Iditarod to fulfill a bucket list set out in the will of his hated grandfather. Henry needs to win the Iditarod or he will receive nothing under the will. His grandfather was a billionaire who had the reputation of mistreating sled dogs and for that he was hated locally. Others view Henry as a replica of his grandfather. Not Scarlett. She is in love with him until things arise that show her that others might be right about Henry. There is certainly a fine line between love and hate in this book.

I enjoyed the story. It was very predictable but a happy ending is the only acceptable ending to a book like this. The connection between Henry and Vanessa Price wasn't covered and made Price's bad actions hard to tack onto Henry but Scarlett certainly had no issue in doing so.

I liked how Storm brought God into the story. Not enough but still He was present. I also enjoyed Storm's Afterword in which she talks about her destiny in meeting her husband and becoming a writer-both of which she give God full credit.

"Let There Be Light" is the 2nd book in Melissa Storm's sled dog series.
Melissa out does herself again by writing, yet another, fabulous series that you won't want to put down.
This story is about Scarlet and Henry ... She is a librarian by day and a wannabe musher by night. (Not literally but ....). She loves dogs and would love to race in the Iditarod but the closest she'll get is by helping her friend Lauren. So she thinks.
She's at work and her mind isn't on books like it usually is. Why? She's thinking about the dreamy guy she met at the ball over the weekend. Her senior librarian thinks she's dreaming about "those dogs" and suggests that Scarlett take a leave of absence to train and race now. Little does Scarlett know that she is being set up.
Henry is the grandson of Henry Mitchell ... The Henry Mitchell that has a very bad reputation when it comes to sled dogs. You'll just have to read the book to find out why. 😁
Scarlett and Henry have a "fire and ice" relationship. It's this relationship that keeps the story going and leave you wanting more.
This is a very well written, clean story that you won't want to put it down. With God, ALL things are possible and He'll always be right there with you. Even if/when you don't think He is.
Thank you Melissa for another wonderful story/series. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

The second in the Alaska-based trilogy, Let There Be Light is another winning tale of love overcoming the odds. Scarlett Cole loves her work as a librarian and is also intrigued by her friend Lauren’s adventures as a musher on a dog sled. Scarlett’s boss works out a leave of absence from the library so Scarlett can pursue he interest in competing in the next year’s Iditarod.

Henry Mitchell III is the grandson and possible heir to the fortune of a very hateful grandfather whose reputation for cruelty toward sled dogs and his grandson, among others, is well known. Henry must perform tasks in a “bucket list” provided by the old man or lose the family fortune entirely. Henry must compete in next year’s Iditarod and win.

Henry and Scarlett meet and sparks fly - some good and some not so good. The tensions around them help to move the story along. The secondary plot involving issues with the library and an obnoxious councilwoman is set up, but drifts away from the action and the very dramatic events near the end were a bit rushed. However, the author’s well-honed skills in writing perfect endings wins the day and provides a very satisfactory read.

I received a copy of this book for my review.

the power of words; a story full of faith, hope, and love

Wow. Where to begin? There are so many things I can say about this book. A rollercoaster of emotions! My head’s still reeling. What a ride! Or better: what a hike!

Scarlett is by nature an introvert, and she loves animals and books. Me too, so it was easy for me to relate to her. She works at the library, but she has a dream, to participate in the Great Sled Dog Race. She meets a guy who is very opposite to her and has an easy confidence bordering on being cocky. Who is he? And is there maybe more to him than everyone thinks? Their love story starts out in a weird (but fun and original!) way.

Love love LOVED it! I really got pulled into the story. You know when you just want to keep reading to get to the beautiful end and then you’re a bit sad because it’s over? It was wonderful, a story full of faith, hope, and love. And full of light! But it’s also about the thin line between love and hate. And the power of words! They can move you, inspire you, lift you up or bring you down. NEVER underestimate the power of words.

Oh, Scarlett! Are you truly judging a man by the sins of his… grandfather?
How disappointing. But then, even your closest friends get a bit of that judgy streak, don’t they?

Meanwhile, I’m learning more about you. You’re determined. Some folks might say stubborn… but as you embark on your next journey, that determination and spark of will is what you’ll need to reach your goal of becoming a musher.

You also love fiercely… How about that?
Well Love and Fate are not finished with you and Henry yet.

Oh, and about that “stubborn” thing… I think you’ll find that Henry has it, too. Measure for measure, pound for pound (And he weighs more than you)!
Besides… maybe you misjudged him? But how can his ambition and yours mesh together?

And when you two get together… Whoo! There’s smoke and fire in the Alaska snow!

This second installment in the Sled Dog series is every bit as good as the first. Scarlett is a character that it took me a little time to warm up to, but by the middle of the book I had thawed considerably! And Henry! Oh, my!

Bottom line: Very good! 5 stars.

This is the 2nd Sled Dog Book in Series and this time we hear Scarlets story. She’s obsessed with The Iditarod Sled Race but doesn’t know how to make her dreams come true to be a musher yet still be able to keep her beloved librarian job when she gets an opportunity of a lifetime to dare to race the Iditarod and yet keep her job by taking a sabbatical. She trains with her Bestie Lauren but her hearts conflicted. Is Henry who she believes he is or is he just like his grandfather?

I enjoyed seeing more of Lauren & Shane, learning more about The Last Great Race, about the amazing dogs and was truly saddened to know that there’s a need for rescue organizations for these amazing dogs - that people are cruel and mistreat such loyal and amazing creatures.

It was a great story, lots happening, lots of interesting information plus it was a story you just wanted to finish-to know what happens next so you just keep reading and suddenly you’re finished in about 5 hours!! Thank you Melissa Storm for another great story. Can’t wait for Liz’s story next!!

If you love dogs or Alaska you really need to get this sweet book. Melissa Storm teaches us a good lesson in this book. We should not judge people based on their family members and what they have done to other but look at that person and what they are doing.
This is a story about librarian who decided watching life happen wasn’t enough. She enjoyed the sport of dog sledding but wanted to train for the Iditarod.
She meets a man and figures he's just like his grandfather who has recently died so she wanted nothing to do with him after she found out who he was. He seems to show up everywhere she goes. How can she get rid of him does she believe him when he said he is nothing like his grandfather and wants to be a doctor but the family will not let him? Read the book you will be glad you did.

Let There Be Light is a great story. The plot and the characters are well developed. It puts you right into the great Alaskan Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race!! It is full of the excitement and the behind the scenes training and care of the dogs. In addition, I enjoyed the interaction between Scarlett & Henry and the competition between them during the race. Henry's grandfather had a reputation of mistreating sled dogs and this negative legacy has also been given to Henry. When Scarlett first meets Henry, she does not know who he is or anything about his family.

I enjoyed seeing the characters develop and show their true selves. Alaska is one of my favorite places that I have visited. This story was like going back to Alaska and to experiences something that is part of the state that I would not normally be able to witness. Reading about it in this book has given me that virtual experience.

This is a great book to read snuggled in front of a fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate. I highly recommend it.

I love Melissa Storm’s Sled Dog Series books! And Let There Be Light is no different!
This is a book I could not put down until I finished the whole thing! And I did in 6 hours!
This is a story about how two people from different worlds come together through dog sledding.
Scarlet the librarian from Anchorage wants to dog sled race in the Iditarod alongside her best friend Lauren.
Henry Mitchell III has to fulfill a bucket list that his late grandfather put in his will or lose all the money (millions) the family has. One of the items is to race in the run in the Iditarod and place.
When Scarlet and Henry meet fireworks went off, but when reality came into the picture life led them down a path neither expected to find.
This is a sweet and thought invoking book. It is a book you can see yourself in and realize we all have our misconceptions of ourselves and other based on what we have heard that aren’t what they seem.

This is the second book in the series by Melissa Storm. The first was “Let There Be Love”. This book picks up with characters we came to love in the first book, but can definitely be read as a stand alone book.

The book grabbed me from the very beginning. I loved the characters, and storyline and didn’t want to put it down until I had read the entire book.

The character of Scarlett takes a leap of faith in order to learn to be a musher in Alaska and run in the Iditarod. Along her journey, her life takes many unexpected turns with her job, her training, her friends, and a man in her life with whom she develops and love/hate relationship. At one point, she is even to the point of almost losing her life. At the point of almost “losing” her life, she also realizes she has “found” her life.

Melissa Storm continues to give us good, clean, Christian-based reading. I highly recommend this book.

This is the story of Scarlett, she works as a librarian but has a dream to be a musher and run the Iditarod. Her best friend Lauren helps her achieve her dream.
Henry Mitchell III’s grandfather has left a bucket list in his will that Henry must fulfil or lose his inheritance and one of the items is to race in the Iditarod and place.
Sparks fly between Scarlett and Henry, there is a love/hate relationship. Their attraction to each other keeps their rivalry alive while competing. Will love find a way to break through the rivalry or will they continue to strive to win?
Oh and of course we can’t forget the main characters of the book the sled dogs. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t have a great story.
Melissa Storm has done it again, what more do I need to say.

The first five chapters really hooked me. I liked Scarlett Cole. Loved the name. The love interest Henry Mitchell did not totally win me over. I enjoyed the story but the first book is still my favorite so far.

Henry Mitchell III is the grandson of a very rich man who was considered a horrible person by sled dog community because of his bad treatment of his own dogs and other nefarious deeds. He had a bit of Scrooge in him IMO by what we learn and gave his grandson a challenging task or no one will inherit his billions.

I like Henry but always felt he never reach his potential as a character although I was satisfied with the ending and definitely recommend reading. This story is light, clean, fun and held my attention. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

The story has captured the dangers and beauty of the vast Alaskan unknown. Wonderful characters, sweet romance, new puppies and the unexpected will captivate and delight. It is well worth the read I will read more from this author. I love huskies and they are great sled dogs.

The fine line between love and hate is often a matter of taking the time to not just hear but LISTEN. Preconceived assumptions and ostrich heads lead to misery and disappointment. Of course we are in Alaska so that stubborn head is buried in the snow! In this second story in the series, familiar characters populate and there are several Easter eggs for those who are familiar with author Melissa Storm's other series, but if this is your first time reading one of her stories you will find all the details needed for the book to stand alone. I am loving learning about Iditarod and sled dogs. This is clearly a physically grueling sport with little forgiveness for carelessness and it makes a splendid background to the love story. Born to Run.
