No. Te. Atrevas”.

What the hell did I just read!?
Within the first couple of characters the main character contradicts herself countless times.
First she hates extremely good looking, cocky guys - she says this REPEATEDLY!! Then Jax comes along (I think I’m chapter 4-5) and she has a thing for good looking, cocky guys and her pants might as well be around her ankles the whole time.
She continuously goes on about how good looking he is! We got it after the first 5 pages in a row where you mention how good looking he is every single page - this is NOT an exaggeration either, I counted!.. sometimes more than once also.

Hopefully book two is better 🤦🏻‍♀️
Note: Book two was not better 😑

I have come back to say that this book was so bad that I remember it for how bad it was 4 years later.

The freaky hate child of a NA paranormal and a chick lit cont romance who thinks that dressing goth makes you a UF book, Dark Hunt was all and constantly wrong.

In short:
The heroine was a useless waste of space so stupid that even calling her TSTL would be too nice. Every time she is somewhat saved by the author's heavy handed intervention I wanted to kill her personally. Every time she stopped thinking and got wet/distracted by the incredibly male beauty of the idiot who was her partner I wanted to kill the author.

The plot was killed by the characterization. Every thing was absurd in that light. Honestly I can't imagine that anyone would recommend this book. But clearly lots of people did like it so read the glowing reviews too

Dark Hunt is a thrilling paranormal story, which will have you reading late into the night. I devoured it, and I couldn’t stop.

Rowyn is a hunter, but she doesn’t know what else she is either. Sworn to hunt demons and not be part of the Legion. She’s out on her own. I loved Rowyn she is a great character. A strong female, with a good heart and she’s not going to let anyone bring her down. I loved her witty banter, I love a strong-willed female. My favorite show of all time is Buffy. And I see a little bit of Buffy in her as well.

The cast of characters, you quickly fall in love with. I want to write this review but not give you every detail of this story.. and it’s so hard! Dark Hunt is a brilliant start to a series and Richardson never disappoints. It has so much action from the beginning and never stops. You’re left in the dark, not knowing what else is lurking around the corner. The mystery that surrounds this whole story is just excellent. I never and I wasn’t able to guess what was happening.

Of course, I have to give this Five Boundless Stars

Nope.

This series just pushed way too many of my most hated tropes.

TSTL heroine with a martyr complex? Check.

Complete dickhead lead male character? Check.

Mean girls? Check.

Oh no, the Council of Good Guys is actually filled with smug, pretentious, know-it-all assholes who don't give a flying fuck about anyone else? CHECK.

A plot that takes flying leaps of illogic? Checkity check.

No thanks.

I want my time back

There are fanfics that are written better than this book. It’s an insult to fanfic to compare this to fanfic. I am tempted to give the book an extra star because it doesn’t end of a cliffhanger, but I feel that one star is more than generous considering the terrible writing.

There is a common misconception that hobbles immature writers - They believe that books ought to have plots like television shows or movies with non-stop action sequences of the characters getting into fist fights and sword fights and gun fights. The dialogue in these tortured books is frequently “quippy” with the characters blathering out lines that the author imagines are pithy bon mots. The problem with this is when the author relies on these crutches in lieu of writing a story or developing the characters.

I was particularly amused when the author pursued a flight of fantasy during one of the many fight scenes and the protagonist decides that the guy she is fighting looks like Freddy Kruger, so she blurts out that ‘the sequel sucked’. Oooookay? That genius line only works if the person hearing it is aware of the reference, otherwise she is just being random.

There was a time that I used to amuse myself watching television shows and guessing “whodunnit” - the answer being the guest star who speaks directly to any of the recurring characters in the first 1/4 of the episode. This book has a similar lack of creativity. The protagonist personally knows all of the murder victims and it turns out the whole serial killing aspect is about her and something that happened before the events of the book. One of the side characters mentions a name in a conversation to another side character and somehow the protagonist intuits that it’s the clue that will crack the whole case. Yawn.

Shadow and light book 1

The story line is great, but I feel some parts are prolonged and could have been shorter. I found myself fast tracking through some stuff and was still able to pick up where it had left off and kept the story going. Like I said though, it’s definitely an interesting story and would like to know where it leads to. Hopefully book 2 would flow better with all the action and adventure our four soldiers will get themselves in.

The story over all was fun and kind of reminded me of The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare. However it had some major flaws that took my rating down to 3 stars. It was extremely predictable. It also had many cringe worthy lines and paragraphs that severely took away from the book. I didn't finish the book wanting to continue or re-read it.

Once again I find myself hooked on another Kim Richardson series!

This is an action packed, fast paced awesome read. It really sucked me in and it didn't let me down. There were no dull or slow moments at all, which really worked for the momentum of what was happening in the book. I also like that it is in the same realm of the Soul Guardians, though I may be wrong.

I thoroughly enjoyed each and every character. Okay maybe not all, but Rowyn definity is relatable and isn't your typical heroin. I don't know about you but I get tired of the "I'm so plain and boring" description for main characters. Rowyn is a breath of fresh air, that's for sure! Without giving too much away, I for some reason want to know more about Pam! I would love to see more of Pam in the up coming books!!

This is an ARC review!

Disappointing

Some great ideas but poorly executed. Really showed the lack of a good editor. Some silly errors, like saying there was only one piece of furniture in a room then describing a table and chair. Countless times the heroine used up all her strength then suddenly made a killing blow etc, etc. The writing was pretty poor. And (spoiler) why would the villain step in at the end to give an explanation rather than just let her be finished off? It made no sense at all, like how there were so many demons around the villain, all of them with a blade which supposedly was lethal to him but not one of them used their blade. And the explanation of her creation was utterly ridiculous and seemed like a real throwaway. Too many inconsistencies to make me want to read any more I'm afraid

This one sneaked up on me. Here I was, innocently reading the "Look Inside" feature to see if I'd like the writing style and the characters. I was immediately caught up in this unique tale, and before I knew it, my hand reached out an 1-clicked. I totally disregarded the other three books I was reading, and this one was devoured in one sitting. Not sure why it caught my fancy, but I simply enjoyed the story and the characters. A few twists kept me wondering.

Interesting

I like the plot of this story. Regarding to her heritage, predictable.
The characters are likeable with a bit of humour and sass. The action is good, but a bit extreme to fight of so many Demons. I would have liked more less action, because there is no stop in fighting, hardly have longer conversations to plan anything, meaning there don't do anything else, than fight.
It's still a good read.
It's very fast spaced.

Nice read with some inconsistencies

Interesting world building, although Richardson takes a chance on flipping some general archetypes. Cast of characters is interesting but none of them really develop past an initial introductory phase. Overall, the writing is good but the story never really grabbed me.

"Dark Hunt: is an interesting read about Rowyn Sinclair who is a hunter barely making a living. After killing a demon for the local priest, Rowyn is visited by Jax, a handsome hunter for the Council who offers her a job she can't afford to refuse. With dwindling funds, Rowyn reluctantly accepts the job to discover why someone is killing angel born like herself. Rowyn believes that the Council is responsible for her parent's death but she also realizes that if she is to get to the bottom of who killed them she might have to play along with them for a while.

Quickly Rowyn figures out that the monster responsible for the recent deaths is targeting angel born who are unmarked. This is an unheard of trait but the two victims who are dead also are from her hometown. There is another potential victim, Cindy and they need to find her before it is too late.

As Rowyn and Jax try to figure out who is responsible for these crimes as well as locate Cindy they determine they will need to summon a higher demon, Degamon. Row is a little overconfident and arrogant in her perceived control over the summoning and it will have a greater impact on her lives than anyone could ever imagine.

There is plenty of action, secrets to uncover and bad guys to find in this read. I enjoyed the character of Rowyn as well as her familiar, Tyrius. At times, I felt he used the most common sense of all of the characters involved. It will interesting to see where this series is headed in the future.

This was a good start. I like the fact that it's a demon and angel book with a twist. Just because your light doesn't make you good and just because your dark doesn't make you evil. I love books that use this. This starts as a usual outcast story but the story shows some cool answers that can change the world. It'll be interesting to see what happens next.

Enjoyed the paranormal demon hunter story.
Rowyn who is an angel born demon hunter is on her own since the horrific death of her parents. She is suddenly employed by a mysterious lady to find out who is killing demon hunters.
The world building in the story is amazing and Rowyn as a character was very witty and memorable. Enjoyed it.

Nope, albeit a gentler nope than some of my other nopes.

In this book, a victim can have emaciated skin, the MCs knife tip whistles through the air, her boots vibrate when she kicks things and "the impact of pain took the breath from her lungs".

If none of that bothers you, then maybe this isn't a nope for you.

There’s a lot of action and all the characters except the cats are unlikeable. The main character came of as a man hungry TSTL idiot with powers but keeps getting beat up. Jax has no use.. the book had so much promise and similarly to another series, for some reason the author writes her character soooooo unlikeable. But the book is fast paced, so there’s that.

I really enjoyed Dark Hunt, it wasn’t the best I’ve ever read, but definitely not the worse. It kept my attention, fast paced, humor, Rowyn was pretty awesome, but Tyrius is definitely my favorite character. I can’t wait to see what book 2 is about!
