After unwillingly becoming a vampire, Faith is forced to start anew in a different town with hopes of avoiding trouble and finishing out her last year of high school. Initially wanting nothing more than to keep her head down, her fragile peace is shattered when she meets Mira.
Mira is a small-town pariah, having fallen from grace for something seemingly unforgivable – but everyone’s lips are sealed. Despite their instant attraction, Faith tries to avoid the charming outcast, but fate seems destined to entangle them.
They soon discover they’re not the only ones in town hiding something, and their fledgling bond is threatened by long-buried secrets and debts that have gone unpaid.
Kinsey lives in the middle of godforsaken nowhere, and don't worry, she's not quitting her day job. She enjoys peeing in the shower and long walks away from the beach because beaches are gross. With little to no charisma, she is hoping that her writing will charm you because her personality sure can't.
Being turned into a vampire can really put a damper on your life, especially when the origins are unknown, but if you don't suffer from all of the normal flaws, perhaps there is still the chance of life, under the right circumstances? Even if people are still afraid you.
There are elements of this story that are familiar. A small town that is mostly allergic to sun, high school setting, and intriguing characters that seem to capture interest. But there is a lot more to it than just that and there is a lot of hurt and anguish behind some of the characters. Not everything is as it seems. There is a lot of depth, and a lot of potential. And some hope. The characters get to grow, develop relationships, and bare some of their soul.
But perhaps there is even more going on that just that? The twist certainly isn't at all what I expected. But it works and fits with the story.
As to what type of ending it has, I'm not 100% sure. Perhaps a chance at HEA? I would certainly be interested in reading a sequel, if one is ever written.
I honestly, like whole heartedly liked the wit and banter the main character gave us throughout the book. Faith is funny, realistic and easy to like. Her story with Mira is cute and the build between these characters was fine. However, at about 70% into the book it’s almost like it’s gone/ the transition into details on our antagonist fall so… flat. I feel like the original plot not including this character was interesting and well done however, her introduction/ the build up to the climax after fell really short for me. Up until that point I really felt this was a good read.
And I expected it to be a romance and was thus very annoyed by the ending. My mistake I guess, although it is listed by Amazon under romance. That definitely dragged my enjoyment of the book way down, which already wasn't that high to begin with. Even without a HEA the twist at the end was stupid and worst of all boring.
Spoilers: "What if the only way we can ever be happy is to be apart?" Girl STFU, you've literally dealt with that plot point earlier in the book and decided it was stupid. Why end the book on that note then? I hate when books try to do a Romeo and Juliet kinda thing, without actually doing any of the things that made Romeo and Juliet actually good. Tragedy for the point of tragedy is so unsatisfying and boring.
the author in all of her books. has this amazing ability to make you attached and adore characters that you meet over the course of one book. The banter and the relationship between the main character and the love interest felt really real. it’s definitely one of those cozy reads if you want to read something that is spooky and cute and beautifully written but not too long this is the perfect read. and The writing in general is so stunning and even poetic at times.
I saw the author talk about this book on TikTok and was so excited to hear about a lesbian vampire book, I immediately went to Kindle and downloaded it. I thought the story was cute, the two outcasts falling for each other, and really wanted Faith and Mira to be together despite everything. I think it was a good book, but there was just something missing. The writing was done well, but I think the characters could have gone a little deeper.
